Who will install ORACLE software on linux production environment?

Hi Friends,
there is a doubt for me on ORACLE software installation. i.e. who will install ORACLE software on linux production environment. either system admin or else ORACLE DBA.
If DBA means, whether system admin will share the oracle root password.,
If SYS admin means how DBA parameters during installation.

If SYS admin means how DBA parameters during installation.I have a doubt - about needing any parameters during a software-only install.
Since every version of Oracle available now (except 11.2) needs patches, a new installation should not create the database right away. Therefore, a software-only install is the most reasonable thing to do. And if no DB configuration parameters are required at s/w-only time, then it makes somewhat sense for the SysAdmin to do the install.
Therefore, it makes sense to me that the two groups (DBA and SA) might want to work ... together. (ROFLMAO)

    Hi there!
The first thing you should do if you get ANY (almost) error when
installing Oracle Server in RedHat Linux v6,0 is to read this
    document carefully: http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/
After hours of struggle it finally worked for me :-)))))
Only two things to add here:
    1) If you want to be able to connect to the Linux server
(telnet) and running utilities like sqlplus locally on the
server, you should copy the ".profile" file to the users home
directory, add the user to the group "dba" AND make sure that
the $ORACLE_HOME directory has execute permissions for members
of the "dba" group (mine had default ONLY permission for the
    owner to execute).
    2) The file "listener.ora" was (for some reason) written
with "oracle_sid" where it really should say the real SID name
that is in my case "ORCL".
I just can't thank the guy who wrote the step-by-step
Installation guide for Oracle on RedHat Linux enough... THANK
    YOU!

  • How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster

    Dear all:
please advice How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster service ..
    thanks ,,

Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node.

  • Error in installing Oracle Software while adding node in RAC

    Hi All
    Oracle Version: 11.1.0.6.0
    Linux
In the RAC environment, I am in the process of adding a node to the existing rac environment.
I have succssfully installed cluster software in the new node. all gsd, ons and vip services are running perfectly for new node in the existing and new nodes.
Next step, I started installing oracle software by executing the script $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/addNode.sh.
Here after specifying the the new node information (public host, private host and vip details) and when I pressed next,
OUI is giving following error - "Error occured while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured".
I ran olsnodes -n, it is giving proper node number.
Can somebody help me in identifying the problem and solution.
    Thanks

I am hitting the same issue, my problem was when I added the new node initially it fails because of the hint8-priv1. I followed the link below to remove and cleanup the last install. olsnode show only my existing nodes NOT including the new node.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/rac.101/b10765/adddel.htm
    then I ran
    ./addNode.sh -silent CLUSTER_NEW_NODES={hint-8} CLUSTER_NEW_PRIVATE_NODE_NAMES={hint8-priv1} CLUSTER_NEW_VIRTUAL_HOSTNAMES={hint8-vip}
I am getting this when use command line:
Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
SEVERE:Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
also run addNode.sh via GUI, the new node name still listed and can't continue.
BTW, adding new node should support online, shutdown is not required

  • Install oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 8.0 Professional

    Hi all,
i need to install oracle 9i on Linux red hat 8.0 professional. I dont know if this platform is certified by oracle and if there are any problem to install that.
    Any information will be appreciate.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Giuseppe

    HI,
According to Oracle "Unix Installation/OS: RDBMS Technical Forum", it is not supported.
I am pasting the final answer from one of the Oracle Analyst: (Hope it is OK)
From: Oracle, Amit Podder 19-Aug-03 15:14
Subject: Re : Does oracle support 9.2.0.2.0 on Redhat 7.X or 8.0
    Hi,
AS of now Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition Version 9.2 is not certified on Red Hat 8.0.
The information on future plans is not published so we are unable to convey any info on the same.

  • After installing oracle 10g on linux im getting this error

    Hi,
Can any one give me any solution on i getting an error after installing oracle 10g on linux.
    ERROR:-
/oraeng/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/bin/clscfg: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Failed to initialize Oracle Cluster Registry for cluster

Hi, please ensure that both 'libclntsh.so.10.1' and 'libttsh10.so' has 755 permission and owned by Oracle.
    That is the critical step.
    After re-execute the root.sh file
Has been known to reset the permissions from the previous step - bug in some patch releases.
Suggest OP records permissions for those two files before running root.sh Or run root.sh before setting the permissions.

  • Got an error when install oracle 9i in linux 9 in windows virtual server

    Hi Guys,
I am installing an oracle 9i in my laptop that is linux 9 server which is hosted in windows virtual server. when I ran runInstaller, I got an eror that is can't connect x11 windows server using........ When I ran xterm, I got can't open dispaly. xhost + also dosn't work. Is that ok that I can install oracle in a linux that is installed in windows virtual server? What value can I set to DISPLAY value?
    Thank in advance.

Linux 9? You mean the one that was end-of-lifed in 2004? (Just checking ...)
If yes, you gotta decide whether it's the 'Linux 9 Boxed Version' or the 'Linux 9 Download Version'. The two have completely different compiler and glibc packages that are incompatible. Fix that incompatibility - relative to Oracle's needs - and you will be able to make Oracle9i limp along.

    Hi,
I think that Feedbak forum is not the best place for this problem.
    You should ask this into
=> Installation Forum : Database Installation
    or
=> Linux Forum : Generic Linux
Anyway, you can find an install doc here :

I got the following error when installing Oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 7.2:
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Please wait...

Try installing 9i on RH 7.1. I don't believe 9i runs under 7.2 due to library incompatibilities.

  • Cannot install oracle vpn on linux getting error kernel-sourcecode is neede

cannot install oracle vpn on linux getting error kernel-sourcecode is needed by gds_cisco_vpn_client-2.0-llrhel4.i386.. i already installed kernel-devel still it get the same error. pls help.

    1. kernel (.rpm)
    2. kernel-devel (.rpm) - containing only Makefiles and some kernel header files
    3. kernel source rpm (src.rpm) - source for rebuilding the kernel
    4. kernel-sourcecode (.rpm) - source-tree for developing custom kernels
    are four different packages.
If you are running OEL-4 (2.6.9 kernel) and you have an ULN account, you can download kernel-sourcecode rpm from ULN. There is no kernel-sourcecode for OEL-5 available on ULN site.
