Most likely you simply cannot.

Because the market share for such users is too small and Nokia assumed they may be simply ignored.

  • I am a Netflix user I am also a Linux user. I would also like to use Firefox but you do not provide any DRM support. When will this change?

Perhaps then is when I start using Firefox again. I don't like the idea of having to have a different browser for each different thing I want a browser to do, that would be rediculous. What other details could you possibly need? I like having the choice to use or not use DRM material and your lack of providing that choice is objectionable, just as objectionable as it is for DRM providers, ie: Nook for PC, to not support my choice as a Linux user. I'm sure I'm going to miss Firefox, I've been using it for about 15 years now. I no longer buy any Nook books! I support your choice of not supporting Linux in this way if its your attitude that Linux users are only 2% or 3% of the worlds OS users anyway. Another reason to believev in Google, a great browser, as well as Earth, Maps, Search, OS, and digitizing the worlds libraries. All honorable endevors by what seems to be a more and more honorable company all the time. Why don't you (Firefox) fully support HTML 5 yet? What seems to be the hold-up? DRM support is part of that!

    Hi Timevirus,
    This is a good question!
Firefox has traditionally lagged behind other browsers in terms of DRM support, because DRM is a thorny issue for Mozilla. Mozillians believe in an open web controlled by the users - with users having the power to remix and create new content. DRM restricts what users can do and runs counter to that.
However, [https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/05/14/drm-and-the-challenge-of-serving-users/ things are changing]. Some [https://hacks.mozilla.org/2014/05/reconciling-mozillas-mission-and-w3c-eme/ very clever folks are working] to integrate a new DRM technology (called EME) into Firefox. EME has been advocated by many of the big players in the industry (including Netflix) - so, hopefully, both Firefox and Netflix will eventually work with EME.
EME is [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1089858 scheduled to land in Firefox 37], due to be released in the second week of April 2015. But this is tentative - so it could well be later.
Hope this helps answer your question.

Since every version of Oracle available now (except 11.2) needs patches, a new installation should not create the database right away. Therefore, a software-only install is the most reasonable thing to do. And if no DB configuration parameters are required at s/w-only time, then it makes somewhat sense for the SysAdmin to do the install.
Therefore, it makes sense to me that the two groups (DBA and SA) might want to work ... together. (ROFLMAO)

  • How do a Linux user switch to Mac and IPhoto

How do you as an Linux user switch to Mac and I Photo with example 30,8 GB 133 094 221 824 byte) photos 20 791 files , in 1 069 folders
How do I import them in a proper way that it make easy to find them in I Photo can I find them with the ease as it were in Google Picasa2 in Linux ? Or do you have to import folder by folder?

    Svendus
As a new user I strongly suggest that you spend some time viewing the tutorials at
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#iphoto
Secondly, I also suggest that you create a Library and import 100 or so pics and explore the app first. It's similar to Picasa, but also quite different. Best to get to know it.
How are your photos currently organised? In folders by date?
Date organisation is pretty pointless in iPhoto as you can find any pic taken on any day/month/year using the calendar tool or Smart Albums.
As you have 30k photos if you simply import them iPhoto will automatically split them into Events based on date. Expolore the options in iPhoto -> Preferences -> Events for how you might like them auto split: (Per day, per week etc.)
If you want to maintain your current organisation then simply uncheck 'Imported Items from Finder' and drag a folder of images to the Source (or left hand) pane in iPhoto. There the pics will be imported and an Album + an Event of the same name will be created. You can then create the enclosing folder (File -> New Folder) in iPhoto.
A note about Events and Albums:
Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
You can move photos between Events, you can rename Events, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Event Name using the Info Pane, the Event Folder in iPhoto Library/Originals will also have the new name.
Albums reference the pics in the iPhoto Library Folder. There fore a pic can be in 1, 10 or 100 albums with no wasted disk space.
Keywords are a very powerful tool for organising in iPhoto, and are very well integrated in to Smart Albums. Check them out.
Many folks who switch from other Operating Systems seem to prefer to manage their files themselves. However, I do not recommend this with iPhoto.
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. It will create an alias to the Original file, a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Your choice, obviously, but best to be aware of all the ramifications. By all means post back if you require more info.
Lastly: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
By all means post back if you require more.
    Regards
    TD

  • A simple thank you from an avid Linux user

I realize this is not necessarily the place to post this but I just want to send a simple thanks to the Spotify team for offering a nicely packaged Linux client.  As an avid, not recreational, Linux user I am always impressed and pleased to find organizations that stand with those of us who love Linux/BSD.  And the client works quite well and isn't buggy (so far).  So two thumbs up to you guys.  This alone will keep me a loyal paying subscriber to the Spotify service. Tyler

You can back up your documents by syncing your iPad/iPhone through iTunes.
You also can connect your device to your computer, then open iTunes. Select the device in iTunes. In the App tab, scroll down to the File Sharing area at the bottom. Select Adobe Reader, and you'll see copies all the PDFs that Reader has on your device. There's an option at the bottom to save PDFs to a separate location on your computer. You can use the same dialog to add PDF documents from your PC to iTunes and sync them to your device.

  • Linux user keyboard woes

Got my first Macbook (in fact my first Mac-anything)about a week ago and I'm really enjoying the experience.
However, I'm an affirmed Linux addict and one of the first things I wanted to do was to set things up so I could multiboot OS X and a few of my favourite Linux distros.
While the majority of things went smoothly, what Linux people call the Apple keyboard bug really upset me.
So, if I pick the Linux (Penguin) icon from the rEFIt menu, the Macbook will almost certainly not function at all when I try to make a choice from the subsequent Linux menu.
I was able to partially overcome this problem by using a usb-keyboard (on the advice of other Linux users).
However, as I'll be travelling with my Macbook next week, it won't be as convenient to be resorting to a usb-keyboard to get over this reluctance on the part of the Macbook keyboard.
Can Mac users/experts provide any further information on how best to cope with this difficulty and what plans, if any, are afoot to eliminate it?
    Thanks
    Paul

I was similar when first starting to use Linux.. possibly because I had problems getting my wifi drivers installed and because I had more time for gaming when I first started playing with Linux than I do now.
However, I decided I'd 'make the switch' some time ago - copied my thunderbird mail and my firefox bookmarks over onto a shared fat32 partition, and started messing around with Arch.  I made myself get everything set up - gaim/thunderbird/firefox/whatever else I needed, then just stuck with it and made sure not to reboot into windows for a while. I think I used... maybe KDE at the start, then went to E16 and finally settled just now on xfce; started with a graphical login but I was doing too much fiddling around with ATI's drivers for that to be terribly reliable, so I've recently gone to console-login + startx.
My advice is to just set it up, then force yourself to stay in Linux for a while.  Eventually I became more used to this environment than windows, and just having such a powerful command line in comparison makes me use things like cygwin whenever I'm back IN windows now.  Recently had to reinstall Windows because of some problem or another, and decided to do a simple, barebones install - nothing but the gaming apps I want.
So yeah... I guess the point of this long-winded reply is to just get yourself booted into an environment you like in Linux, and keep yourself there for a bit.  Eventually it'll be like a second home.

  • Who will decide...

    Hello,
In Development, who will decide which mapping to use  XSLT ,Java or ABAP ..In which different scenarios these mappings are Appropriate pls give examples for each

    See satya,
as u know there r 4 types of mapping possible in XI.
    1)Graphical
    2)JAVA
    3)XSLT
    4)ABAP
generally most  of the time Graphical mappings are considerd as....thats the simplest of all.Sometimes some mappings are not possible using graphical mapping so u have to go for Java mapping or XSLT mapping or ABAP...
In some cases java mappings are useful...suppose u want to create some dynamic target node depending upon the source nodes...u can easily achive it with Java mapping....
u can see some scenarios where java mapping are used
    /people/prasad.ulagappan2/blog/2005/06/29/java-mapping-part-ii /people/prasad.ulagappan2/blog/2005/06/29/java-mapping-part-iii /people/ravikumar.allampallam/blog/2005/06/24/convert-any-flat-file-to-any-idoc-java-mapping /people/amol.joshi2/blog/2006/03/10/think-objects-when-creating-java-mappings
    We can use XSLT mapping
When the required output is other than XML like Text, Html or XHTML (html displayed as XML)
When default namespace coming from graphical mapping is not required or is to be changed as per requirements.
When data is to be filtered based on certain fields (considering File as source)
When data is to be sorted based on certain field (considering File as source)
When data is to be grouped based on certain field (considering File as source)
    u can see Some scenarios

    /people/anish.abraham2/blog/2005/12/22/file-to-multiple-idocs-xslt-mapping
ABAP mapping are used in very rare cases...

  • Java Stored Proc. and Linux User

    Hi
When Oracle run some Java class inside Oracle9i DB what Linux user it use to run them? Is it user named oracle?

If the Java class only runs inside Oracle, it will run with whatever Oracle permissions the caller has. If the Java class interacts with the system outside of Oracle (i.e. reading and writing files), it will run as whatever user Oracle runs as (i.e. generally oracle).

  • Who will have access to data grid

do end user can have access to Data Grid.
general who will have access to data grid i.e both end user and hfm developer can access to the data grid in real time.
    Can any one pls tell
    Thanx

Access to datagrids is controlled by the "Security Class" which is selected when saving the datagrid. By default this value is [Default]. Security classes are defined within shared services, and users or groups are subsequently given rights to security classes.
A user can access a datagrid if he has "Read" or "All" access level on the datagrid's security class.
Different kinds of users, whether end users, power users, key users, developers etc, are given access to grids (and other hfm objects like forms, documents, reports, dimension members etc) according to the above mechanism.

  • Any linux user around?

    Hi,
Thank you for reading my post.
As I will certainly remove the orginal OS and isntall the Ubuntu on my Thinkpad I am looking to know whether any other linux user is around of not, and if yes, can you please share your experience about Linux on thinkpads?
    - Is there any features of the thinkpad T61 15" with discrete graphic which wont work on linux?
    - What type and model of web cam and crodless headset do you use with your Thinkpad either in linux or windows?
    Thanks.

    Take a look:
    http://littlemonsters.funpic.de/screen1.jpg
Just asked my neighbours son for some 3D-Games to check out the thermal management under higher performance conditions.
You will have to install some additional packages, e.g. for trackpoint-configuration and fingerprint-reader, and not each feature will work as you are used it to work. Experienced no probs with BT-devices so far. Considering its your first experiment I suggest a dual-boot installation. It mostly takes more than one setups to feel somehow familiar to the unix file system.
As Im less an expert in IT-stuff than most subscribers round here it doesn't seem to be too tricky ...

  • Arch Linux User Creation Section

I think there should be some sort of Arch Linux software/script/multimedia section in this board.  Like the various splash screens, wallpapers, scripts, and other related software/things that the users of Arch Linux have created.  It isn't very easy to find the various scripts that Arch Linux users have made, so it would be a good idea to move things that make the Arch Linux experience much better to a section all to itself, either that or make there be some centralized place on the website with links to stuff like Arch Stats and some of the other scripts that I know people have made, but are hard to find.
Also, many distributions' websites have a few screenshots of their distro in action, so maybe we should take a few of the best screenshots that were posted to the forum, and put those in a section on the website.

  • I am developing a Web App which will have millions of users. I am expecting to use MySQL & Microsoft SQL. Is there any issue with doing that?

I am developing an app that will server millions of users. Most of the information coming out of the database won't be of any security concern, but there will be some accounts with financial information that I want more secure. For money reasons, I am
looking at using MySQL for the majority of the Web app and then when I am using a secure connection for money things, using Microsoft SQL Server. Is there anything wrong with that idea?
    DCSSR

I understand the confusion. I don't want the expense of Microsoft SQL server and was thinking that if I left everything that didn't need to be secure in MySQL, then I could use Microsoft SQL Server free (less than 10 GB) for just billing where security
is more of an issue for me.  It might just be me, but I feel more vulnerable using MySQL.
Should I not feel that way?
    DCSSR
This is wrong and it is not not professional to throw recommendations regarding a specific system design , while we do not know your system characterization (which is something you can not post in a forum). What we do here is mostly helping in specific question
or just throw comments and general points based on golden rules (rules of thumb). as i wrote before I see no reason of using both MySQL and SQL Server and the new information did not change this.:-)
I can not tell how you should feel, as I dont know you or your system and most important I do not know your developers knowledge/ability. I can tell you that there is no problem in using MySQL regarding security if you do it in the right way. I can tell
you that I would feel great with working with MySQL regarding security (By personally i prefer SQL Server).
    * You can think on using NoSQL (as well as MySQL) if u need free database server if the size limitation of 10 GB is the problem. You can use flat database as well for some data.
    * If the problem is using 20 GB then I will prefer in most cases to use 2 databases from the same type on using 2 different database server. In this case where I have to choose between using SQLEXPReSS+MySQL or 2 SQLEXPRESS i will probably prefer 2 SQL
EXPRESS databases (in 2001 I had a system with more then 20k users using several MS-ACCESS as databases... It worked great).
I hope this is useful :-)
