Whodunnit? (Win7-Explorer + PS CS4-Thumbnails)

When I installed Windows 7, there were no thumbnails in the windows explorer for psd-files.
Now - without changing or pimping or installing anything except the regular updates - there are thumbnails!!!
It looks just like a birthday present from Adobe or Microsoft.
Does someone know who's done it?
miss_marple

I think I found the reason!
I found a hint in the web.
Some months ago I installed Microsoft Expression 3 Web, it's a HTML-Editor.
It installed a file PSDCodec.dll in its own Common-Files-Folder.
This codec can produce Photoshop thumbnails.
But it didn't do it till last week. Why? Don't Know!
It seems to work with 32 bit Windows only.

  • Ftp displays wrong time in Win7 explorer - other computers on XP or previous see the correct time

NO ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION IN OVER A YEAR? Shame on Microsoft
    Windows7,
Explorer is showing a -6 hour difference in time from my actualfile
date. This is NOT simply the time difference between my computer
(in Central time zone) and the server (on Eastern time). Explorer is ignoring the server's time stamp and subtracting exactly 6 hours from the time of the what the server should say. I know this because I'm also looking at the exact same folder and files using
XP and the time stamps are exactly as they should be. I modified a file locally (on Windows 7) and copied it up to the server. The time stamp local is 9:36a. The time stamp on the server should be 10:36a, but instead it says 4:36a. So, I copied a file from
the server back to here and it reports locally 6 hours later (10:38a) than what is on the server (4:38a). Looking at the exact same files through explorer on XP shows that the time should have been 10:38a.
If it wasn't for time showing correctly on XP, I'd assume it was a problem at the server, but there seems to be something in either the display of time, or in the way it sends thefile'stime-stamp.
And now I'm testing it on another ftpserver,
which I think has their time set to UTC (my 10:00a is their 4:00p). Using XP, I create a brand new file locally, and transmit it to this server. It initially appears with the same timestamp as the original file (10:16a). I then do a refresh of the server list
(in XP) and it jumps forward 6 hours (4:16p). I look at this server with Windows 7 and it shows that the file has a timestamp of 10:16a. So Icopy
that file (using Windows 7) to its local drive and it tells me that the timestamp is 4:16p (later today).
I've triple-checked my PC's time settings (set to UTC-06:00 Central Time). I've verified with the first server's techies that the PC is in Eastern time (I've not reached the other server's people yet). In both cases, however, Windows 7 is showing the time of
the files on the ftp servers to be 6 hours earlier than their actual time-stamp.

I have had the same problem with WIN7 explorer, viewing file timestamps with FTP on a remote web server. If you copy the remote URL address and use IE9 to view the same folder, you will see the correct file timestamps.  Also if you temporarily change
the time zone on your local machine to "Coordinated Universal Time" UTC-0 then you will see the correct file timestamps of when the files were actually created on the remote server. I guess that Microsoft chose to make this change in Windows 7 so that
we would be aware that FTP on servers actually use UTC-0 time for a timestamp when they create a new file.  Just remember to change your local machine time zone back to normal when you are done.

  • Viewing DNG's in Windows 8.1 file explorer as image thumbnails ... how to do this?

Does anyone know why you can't view .dng RAW files as image thumbnails in Windows 8.1  file explorer even with the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack installed.
Other RAW files show up as thumbnails no problem (e.g. Nikon .NEF files). I could view dng's as thumbnails in Windows 7 but not with Windows 8.1. Perhaps Adobe hasn't shared the appropriate info. for Microsoft to make it happen?
Cheers if you know how to see the dng thumbnails and can help me do the same.

I know the DNG Codec for Windows 7 allowed one to view DNG thumbs in Win 7. Wouldn't it work for Windows 8.1 too?

  • Adobe Bridge CS4 Thumbnails

I just installed Adobe CS4 couple days ago! Everything worked fine. I could see the thumbnail previews of all my pictures but today now I can't! It looks like I'm using Camera Raw 5.4 if that matters. I moved my Bridge and Photoshop Icons to my desktop if that makes a difference. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks Mike

suspect (ok, know) that there are some obscure bugs related to files

  • Users are not able to save pdfs after editing - Adobe XI. They do not use the Win7 explorer preview pane.  If they completely close the Win7 explorer window, they can save - Adobe XI thinks the preview pane is open when it is not.

Users are not able to save pdfs after editing.  Product is Adobe XI, OS is Win7 64-bit.  When saving, an error pops up that the file cannot be saved, it is in use.  If they save as a different name, it works.  Found several forums/blogs/etc that suggest the problem can be solved by closing the Window7 explorer preview pane.  They don't use the preview pane.  I figured out that if they completely close the explorer window, they can save.  But this means they have to open and close explorer for each file.

Hi, I would like to chime in and say that this problem has not yet been resolved. It is extremely annoying when all I do is highlight a document in the file explorer and I get 5 errors (evenly spaced out about 20 seconds apart telling me that "Microsoft
Word Cannot Start (24)". These errors persist even after windows explorer and word are closed. And I don't want to start terminating processes just to make them stop every time.
I'm a little frustrated with this problem and the other problems I've encountered with MS Office 2013 with file corruption, crashing, 2010 compatibility issues, and the whole host of errors when trying to actually do WORK with Word.
I do work with long, complex reports in Word because that's the best way available for myself (and my coworkers) to use. However, I sincerely regret upgrading to Office 2013 because of it. I love it, all of its features, and its interface, but I simply cannot
    use it without problems.

  • CS4 Thumbnails do not show metadata or file number

All of a sudden my Bridge Content panel does not show any info on thumbnail photos, neither file number nor any metadata preferences.  Info is OK in the Metadata window, but not on Content pane
Also, the file folder thumbnail icons in Content panel now have the file numbers super-imposed over the file instead of below.
    These must be related.
Coincidentally the font size of my Metadata panel suddenly got bigger and bolder, not the Keyword panel or any other, just Metadata.  Doesn't really bother me, but seems odd these have all just happened

Should I delete some sort of preference folder ?  Where ?
    Thanks

That is caused by accidently hit cmd+T and that command does hide the

Hit cmd + T again to solve this or go the menu view and deselect the Show

  • Thumbnails in Windows Explorer

Some pdfs that I download show in Windows Explorer with a thumbnail on the icon itself. Mine show in the Preview pane, but not on the icon. How can I make pdfs that show a thumbnail on the icon in Explorer? I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows 7.
    Thanks,

I've had Acrobat 8 on XP for quite some time and all my thumbnails in Explorer were showing the first page, but then a couple of weeks ago I uninstalled some older versions of Acrobat in a bit of a clean up and suddenly I was just left with the icons. Disaster - I too have hundreds of pdf files and seeing the colour of the front page before I open a file saves me so much time.
Loading Reader didn't work for me (sorry Mike) but I found some advice in another thread to try running Repair Acrobat Installation under the help menu, then restarting. Success!!! All my thumbnails are back as I need them.

  • CS4: 32 or 64 Bit? How do I know?

I've been testing CS4 on Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. I open files from Bridge, and I expect that they are opening in 64 bit. But I have come to realize that I cannot be sure. AFAIK, they do.
Today, I went exploring: How to use the 32 bit version. As expected, I found it in the x86 file. I set up the shortcut wondering "How can I tell"? and I see the icon is subtly different in name. But now, the big question: Which is the default setting in Bridge (I am 99% sure it's the 64 bit version ) but if I want to open in 32 bit from Bridge, how do I do it? I have never been asked "Which version?" or similar when opening from Bridge. Nor is there any indicator when Photoshop opens which version, at least not obvious to me.

That's been my workaround to this point. It just seems pretty clumsy so I thought I would ask.
If you generate a shortcut to both, they do have a different labels so it is possible to set up the program to set the program or OS to allow a choice while in Bridge.
Perhaps it is moot. I found one program that will not operate fully in x86, and that is the Epson scanner 3200.It has an update for Win7 but only supplies the WIA scanning feature, woefully inadequate.
So it's either another $500 for a scanner that does or dual boot with XP is going to have to be the order of the day for a while.
In fact, I am actually using a 30 day trial for both Win7 RTM and CS4 (I found out how to do Win7 w/o actually buying it). I have to say that while I really like working with Win7, it is less so with CS4. The only feature so far that really shows an improvement in performance is the Panorama stitcher: 208 sec in CS3, 73 sec in CS4. After that, so long as I am not in scratch, filters take almost exactly the same time in CS3 on XP and CS4 or 3 in Win7.XP is maybe 10% faster on one test, run several times in all configurations (3.9 sec in XP, 4+sec in Win7) which correlates loosely to a finding I found doing comparisons with data base processing.
Finally, Win7 has a peculiarity. If you hide the taskbar , which is immensely preferable running Photoshop( it is obnoxious!) then Windows freezes upon wakening. At least, that's what I found as the culprit on the Internet, have yet to try it.
So, at the end of 30 days I either spend $350 on two software updates, or re-install everything every 30 days or abandon  Win 7 for the time being. If I really don't like to use CS4, the answer is obvious.
Actually, not just $350 but $850 including the scanner.

  • PSD Thumbnails and Windows

After installing a PSD Thumbnail viewer for Win7 explorer, some Photoshop files thumbnails are viewable in Windows Explorer, while others are still showing a PSD Icon for the Photoshop image in Windows explorer, any ideas?

This is just a guess but possibly the previews show for any PSD  that has no layers.  If it has layers only the icon will show.  In Photoshop go to PREFERENCES> FILE HANDLING.  By "Maximize PSD File Compatibility", in drop down select ALWAYS.  This saves a flattened version with the layers which usually can be read by some file browsers.  Hope this works.

  • After installing PSE 8 Windows 7 no longer generates mpg thumbnails

I recently noticed that Windows 7 was no longer producing thumbnails of .mpg files in Windows Explorer.  Much troubleshooting produced no solution.  Finally I un-installed PSE8, and immediately Windows was able to generate mpg thumbnails again.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Is there a solution (besides un-installing PSE8)?  By the way, I have PSE 7 installed and there is not effect on thumbnail generation in Windows Explorer.

Since posting my original message, I have deleted PRE8 and PSE8.  I can't remember if PSE8 Organizer was able to make thumbnails for mpg files or not.  I'm sorry that I can't answer your question more clearly.  I did not want to leave PSE8 and PRE8 installed on my computer because of the problem I described above of how it affected Windows Explorer's ability to create mpg thumbnails.  So, I have removed PRE8 and PSE8 from my computer.
After installing PRE8 and PSE8 have you found any problems with Windows Explorer creating mpg thumbnails?

  • Windows 8.1 64-bit: PDF icons in File Explorer fail to show

On my Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit it seems impossible for File Explorer to create thumbnails of my PDF files.
I use Adobe Acrobat X as my default PDF application.
I did some thorough research to find a solution. I expected a simple fix, but the problem persists hence this post.
There is only one work-around that works (from Adobe Community link below):
If you click Open in Acrobat
In the Explorer window select show large icons
Thumbnails will be created which will be visible in File Explorer.
My problem with the work-around is the extra work required to generate thumbnails. I have many PDF's whose front page thumbnail I use to select my file of choice.
    What fix have I over-looked?
    Cheers.
    Dave---
    I applied all these solutions:
Icon cache rebuildRemoved IconCache.db in %localappdata%
File Explorer > Options > View "Always show icons, never thumbnails"= off
Default application to open PDF Set to Adobe Acrobat in File Explorer
Default PDF handler set in Adobe Acrobat:
    Click Edit > Preferences…
Click the button Select Default PDF handler
Click Apply. Acrobat will start an installer and processes the configuration changes.
Checked system with sfc /scannowNo problem detected
    Removed thumbnails with Disk Clean-up

For many days I searched for answer of how an Internet Explorer add-on installed because few websites won't run without it, but Windows OS or Internet Explorer itself won't allow install of these add-ons.
    Please note following problems:
    1. Windows 8.1 64 bit operating system installs 32 bit Internet Explorer 11, but this 32 bit Internet Explorer won't accept 64 bit add-ons which I tried to install for 64 bit Windows 8.1, incompatibility of 64 bit and 32 bit which
I knew already but didn't clicked even on posting forum questions not before 'ORACLE's message in yellow.
    2. For 64 bit Windows I kept on trying to install 64 bit add-ons for Internet Explorer, which won't install or would send message 'Incompatible', once default installations of these add-on's are disturbed but not completely uninstalled, new installations
won't be entertained at all, only way is reinstall of Internet Explorer.
    3. Therefore I installed Apple's 'Safari', which also displayed same messages, but allowed install of 'Quick Time', and now I listen to my favourite songs on a great sound system of a website.
    4. Windows needs correction for this.
    Best of Luck.
Use the 32-bit version of IE. All rivals are 32-bit, no need for x64, a browser is not so big.

  • Lightroom watermarks not showing up in Windows explorer.

Quick question for everybody. I imagine there's an easy solution for it, I just haven't been able to figure it out.
The company I work for needs to manage and watermark many different types of photos (perfect for Lightroom.)  The only problem is, when Im uploading photos to our website, the Lightroom watermarks dont show up in the thumbnail preview of Windows Explorer. When I right click the image thumbnail and select "preview" the full size image preview pops up with the watermark. I guess my question is, is there any way to get the Lightroom watermarks to show up when viewing files in Explorer in large thumbnail view? It would save my a lot of time and frustration.
    Thanks ahead of time!

Im including this image in case I did a terrible job of explaining my problem.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 does not show PDF thumbnails when browsing

When I am browsing through PDF files to open one of them in Adobe Illustrator CS5 it does not show the thumbnail.  When I am browsing in Adobe Acrobat it does show the thumbnails.  If I have Adobe Acrobat open and am browsing through files and the thumbnails are showing then if I open Adobe Illustrator and browse for a file the thumbnail does show up.
How can I get Illustrator to always show the PDF thumbnails.  I have to frequently browse through thousands of PDF files and it is imperative that I can see the thumbnail for these PDF files.  I primarily use Illustrator to edit PDF files.
The computer is Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit edition.  Thumbnails barely work when browsing files through Explorer.  Some thumbnails will show, but not very many of them and it is extremely slow to load the thumbnails that will display.

    Bob,
So I am assuming you are talking about viewing the files using this method first:
To use the 32-bit version of Windows Explorer, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type the following in the Open box, and then click OK:
    Drive_Letter:\windows\syswow64\explorer.exe /separate
Note The placeholder Drive_Letter represents the drive where the x64-based version of Windows is installed.
Please let me know if I am missing what you are saying here.
