Whole folders of images Gone?

I am running into a strange problem where i am losing whole folders of images? I am a photographer and basically save each new group of photos to a folder till i have a dvds worth of shots. I then backup those images to 2 hard drives and dvds. Last night i found the last 3 folders were totally gone after i backed them up. after a dvd is burned, the folder remains on my desktop from the burn session and i usually drag that to the trash when i am done. Is that somehow deleting my original folder of images? Thank goodness i have the two externals to replace the files on my main drive, but this is puzzling? any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

disk warrior is #1 in repair
10.6.8 is pretty good unless the problem has been allowed to get worse.
DW does not 'come up for air' or keep the user informed of its progress. Like a swimmer that puts their head down in the water and just churns to the other end, it doesn't interrupt itself to manage the user interface for feedback... but it is working. Severe and it can take hours - rare but even days sometimes.
Backup first? use Data Rescue 3 to try to copy files off. Use DW Preview mode also to see and mount the drive to backup or copy recent file and folder changes.
When done, zero the drive thoroughly and consider using only as an extra archive backup, if it gets through. The vendor has their own DOS/Linux or Windows utility that is best for mapping and recertifying drive, or I've heard good things about SMART Utility program. Also SoftRAID 4, more as a way to catch and spot bad sectors before they are bad.
Try Disk Utility first from another hard drive. You do have bootable working copy clone or emergency boot volume to work with - your own Recovery Partition if you will.

  • Image Sequences and Batch Processing: Can opening files from different folders as image sequences be set up as an action for batch processing?

I have an ongoing series of tasks that necessitates opening the contents of a series of folders as image sequences.
I'm used to setting up some fairly complex actions, including ones that are intended to be applied to all of the contents of materials in various subfolders, but for some reason I cannot get an Open-with-Image-Sequence-Checked action to set up in a way that will batch process correctly.
Complicating matters is that the file prefixes (i.e., the letters before the sequential numbers) and the folders will always have different names from the last time the process had to be carried out.
The steps I would like the action to carry out would be the following:
    1. Open Subfolder 1 - that is, Photoshop shouldn't be looking for a specific folder. It's just *any* subfolder to the current parent folder.
    2. Select first file in sequenced set of files.
    3. Open as an image sequence.
    4. Open Subfolder 2.
    5. Select first file in sequenced set of files.
    6. Open as an image sequence.
...rinse and repeat until Photoshop runs out of subfolders to check.
    Am I asking the impossible?
    Thanks!

I'll look around there,  because I had posted something about this and was told to look here ps-scripts - Browse /Image Processor Pro/v3_0 at SourceForge.net
then this is the image here:
is the result I received.  Granted I'm new to using scripts and actions for image processing large amounts of files.

  • Sub-folders of images under a master folder have disappeared

The folders are under a master folder, and another sub-folder (at the same level) has remained. I have already processed the files and exported JPGs, which also used to be there but now are not. I have not moved anything or had a crash. I am on a WinXP machine and can see all the sub-folders and images in Windows Explorer. If I go back to LR to re-import them, they show up but are grayed out, so cannot be re-imported. Why would this happen and what can I do? I need to export some of these for client use.
    Thanks
    Andy

I don't know what exactly caused this, but your photos were imported into Lightroom and remain imported into Lightroom (because you can't import them), just not in the folder where you think they should be. (My guess is that you made a mistake on import)
So, you need to find one of the photos in Lightroom (search by file name in the filter bar), and then locate which folder it is now in by right-clicking on the photo and select Show Folder in Library.
Now you know where this photo is located (and presumably all the other photos in that folder are the ones that are supposed to be in the same folder as the one you found), you can either leave them there, or update the folder location back to the original location (see Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders, scroll down to Updating Folder Location)

  • Providing Guest Access to certain folders of images

I want to create a guest account on my mac. Is it possible to make only certain albums or folders of images available to users on the guest account?
    Thanks.

    Mark P1
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane. In the Sharing Pane you can select to share the entire library or only specific parts of it.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.

  • Images gone after exporting to DVD

Wow, was this ever a surprise. I exported images by selecting individual albums to a DVD for Back up. Now I have all the images on DVD but they are totally gone from iPHoto, including the library. So now I don't have the originals, or at least access to them. What the heck happened? That's crazy. Exporting has always sent a copy of the edited image not the whole shabang. Any way of getting them back and linked up with the originals?

As you have probably deduced by not, that ain't the way it's supposed to work. Using the Share->Burn menu option will produce a disk that's an iPhoto formated disk. You can mount the disk and then open iPhoto. The disk will show in the Source pane directly under the Library icon like this. You can drag that disk icon onto the Library icon and copy back all of those photo, any albums they are associated with, keywords, etc.

  • Images gone in iPhoto Library

When I opened iPhoto yesterday all of my 12000+ images were gone. The file names were still in each respective location in both the library and the Smart folders, but no images. Clicking on each image location revealed all of the info including the file size, so I'm assuming the images are somewhere. Can you help? Thanks.
    John Willetts

    John:
You probably have a damaged library database file. It's called Library6.iPhoto. If you have a recent backup copy of that file you can use it to replace the one in the iPhoto LIbrary package. Or if you have a recent backup of the entire library you can revert to it as long as your current library doesn't have any photos that the backup wouldn't. See the tip at the end of my signature below for a way to keep a current backup of the dB file.
Otherwise try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • I burned iPhoto to a folder and now my folders/albums are gone in iPhoto

I decided to burn a folder of all my photos in iPhoto as I was having a problem with iPhoto creating new, untitled subfolders everytime I put photo's in a folder. I thought that I should back everything up and then take the next step to reloading iPhoto. I have had a problem with iPhoto since I bought my computer and took it into the genius bar twice and they they remotely came into my computer. It seemed to stump all of them, although the remote session was the best help. Since I have over 32,000 photos, I think it is time to find out what is really going on with this particular iPhoto. I have been using iPhoto for a very long time on previous computers and never had a problem. I need help before I regret doing something I can't reverse.

I am asking what happened to my folders and albums after backing up my photos by burning a folder to my desktop.
Part of the problem is confusing use of language - since we only have words to communicate with it is critical to use the correct words properly
In iPhoto are you speaking of folders and albums in the source pane on the left? Those are for organizing and are not places but albums are ways of viewing yoru photos and folders are ways of organizing your albums
Not sure what you mean by "burning a folder on the desktop? You "burn" CDs and DVDs - you "export" photos to finder folders on the desktop - is this what you did?
Then exactly what did you do next?
    This makes no sense
Just went back to iPhoto and all of the albums and folders are gone. All the photos are present.
Exporting photos does nothing to a finder folder does absolutely nothing to the source photos within iPhoto
And export (if htat is what you did) is not a way to backup iPhoto - it does backup your photos but not yourorganization
So to help it is critical to know exactly what you did do
And do you have a good current backup of the iPhoto library - you may very well need to use it

  • Folders and images change when hard drive disconnected

I have no problem importing images. From CD's, when the CD is removed the file folder and images stay there with reference to the original location.
However, I have several hard drives and when I import files and folders from one of them and then disconnect it, Lightroom renames all the folders and changes the images--What is causing this?????

Yes, the images stay on the external drive as I don't move them upon import. I have 5 external Hard Drives and my problem is with the two larger ones, both Firewire 800 if that matters. In any case, the files imported from the non 800 drives do not have any problems. They are noted as not being on-line when I disconnect the drive, but thumbnails, location and file naming are all the same. With the 800 drives, the images corrupt AND change name. A few will still show a path to the original, but the folder they are in has nothing to do with where they came from.

  • Help! Whole Iphoto library is gone.

So I have been having a few problems with the computer shutting down lately but I haven't noticed any major problems when rebooting. But then I went to open iPhoto and my entire library is gone. When I go into finder they are all still in folders under the iPhoto library but when I try to resync the folders to the iPhoto library while the application is open but it won't let me. I tried syncing a new set of pictures and it worked and saved to iPhoto but those are the only pictures that show when I open the application please help!!!

    Your database has been corrupted.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Help with cutting a whole in an image/clipping mask

    Hello.
I am needing to cut out circles in an image so that the background shows through. Sort of like an inverse clipping mask..but I don't know if those exist..  And once I cut holes in the image I am needing to put a clipping mask on the whole thing so that only part of the image is still showing with parts of the cut-outs.
Or i guess if I could figure out how to create an odd shape clipping mask that would work as well.
The image below is something like what I'm trying to accomplish just different image and different sizes and locations of the cut-outs along the edge.

I am not certain about the previous postings but here is how to do it.
1 place your circle on top of the image select the image and make sure the image is filed with white no stroke.
2 Go to the transparency panel and from the flyout select opacity mask make
    3. make sure invert is select and clip is deselected as in the screen shot.
Works with linked or embedded images.

  • Images gone from presentation, when replacing "image couldn't be inserted."

Keynote 6.2, OSX 10.9.4, 1st gen Macbook Pro Retina
I have a presentation that had a bunch of images that are now gone (replaced by the grey square with the "?"). When I open the presentation I get a "Some images are missing because they were deleted from the document" warning. I understand that this usually means that there is an issue with the source image, but there are a few things happening for me:
    1) When I try to "Replace" an image (mostly .png) I can find the right image in the folder where I left it. If I select that image, which has the same title and is in the same directory as the day I first gave the presentation, I get a "The image 'example.png' couldn't be inserted" warning.
    2) If I try to Insert>Choose an image I get a "The image 'example.png' couldn't be inserted. The image is of an unsupported file type" notification. If I open a new presentation there are not problems inserting an image.
    3) There are many images that are "droppedImage.tiff" and "pasted-image.pdf". Shouldn't these have been embedded in the file itself?
    4) There are two images from roughly 50 slides that still have their images. Both are "pasted-image.pdf" and if I remember right they were the last images I added.
My guess is that the presentation is lost and I'll have to rebuild, but the problems I'm having are so unusual that I hope there is something can be done.
The last update to this presentation was June 23rd, so I believe (though I could be wrong) that I was using Keynote 6.2 at the time. I usually update right away.
    Thanks!

    Hey fasol,
You may need to convert those files to PDF before they can be inserted into Keynote:

  • How to use metadata to create folders of images

i have a collection of photos of a high school baseball team. 40 players. The Entire season is approaching 6000 images. I have identified the "Person Shown" in each image in that respective IPTC EXTENSION metadata field.
I Want to export each player's images into a folder with the folder named "Person Shown"
Is there an easy way (ie plug-in or script) to accomplish this?

I don't think there's an easy way in LR to do what you want without using a plugin.
I don't know of plugins that would create folders based on Person Shown.  But you could export the files with the naming convention person-shown-nnn.jpg. Then in the Mac Finder or Windows File Explorer, sort the export folder by filename and then do 40 drag-and-drops to move all of the photos of a player into the appropriate folder.
To export the files with names of the form person-shown-nnn.jpg, use the Search Replace Transfer plugin to copy the Person Shown field to the Title field (or some other metadata field you're not using).  Then in the Export window, use the Rename To option with a custom filename template "Title - Sequence # (1).jpg".
Perhaps someone else has a better suggestion.

  • Video Thumbnail images gone - iPad 1st gen, iOS5

After updgrading my iPad 1st gen to iOS5, all of my video thumbnail images are gone.
The iPad just displays a white box with a gray flat screen TV icon for every video file listed under Movies or TV Shows
This is most troublesome when I touch the TV Shows button and I get a page full of those white boxes with the TV icon - and, as has always been the case, there is no name for the TV show. So I'm lost in the white boxes trying to find LOST the TV show.
Any thoughts on how I get my thumbnails back?

If they are in your iTunes library on your computer why don't you try syncing again. Make sure that all of the shows are selected to sync along with the sync Movies heading and then sync again.
If they are only on the iPad it might be a good idea to transfer the purchases into the iTunes library. Connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes and right click on the device name and select Transfer Purchases.
If you have tried syncing, try restarting, resetting and quitting the videos app.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
To quit the videos app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Finder doesn't open folders/preview apps gone missing

So i was sorting through my gazillion of photos last night and decided to also delete some photo editing programs i do not use at the moment to have some more space on my 3 year old macbook for the time being, and using CleanMyMac app, i removed aperture 3 and lightroom2 and lightroom 3Beta. I dont know what happened but my preview app doesnt want to work anymore and quickview doesnt show previews as it did, ie only thumbnails of JPGs. I restarted the system only to find out that now even the folders images dont show, only the names underneath. And i cannot open them either. I tried opening iPhoto, but it said that it aborted as the image could not be found. Using Bridge i amanged to get into the folders and everything is still there safe and sound. Only my Apps are not there, image wise, but kinda are. And funny enough it affected skype - no text is showing in the msg window.
I ran permission verification with some warnings and disk verification didnt complete vecause there were some number of.. not sure what it was... not matching. I just tried running it again to give exact details but i cannot find disk utility?!!?!?!?! doesn't come up in spotlight.
What did i do wrong?! What do i do?! PLS PLS help.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH

    Hi,
Thank you for the informative process to help. I just tried all of the above. My HD doesnt give error messages anymore and has been fixed, however the issue still persists.
When running permission repair i got a lot of messages. sorry for the long message but here is what it said. I am sharing because it means close to nothing to me.
