Whole Itunes Songs Do Not Play

I have Windows Vista and I songs on my itunes that are purchased directly from my account and shared songs from siblings accounts. This doesn't happen with any specific song but pretty much all of them. My songs do finish when I play them. They will play a fraction of the song (it is a different amount every time) and then skip to the next. How do I fix this? It is very frustrating.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would recommend deleting any songs that will not play, and then downloading them again by following these instructions:

    You can probably import into a modern version of iMovie (8 or higher).
    If you just wish to view the videos the free VLC player can play them back.

    If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:

    Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
    Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
    Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

    I have several thousand songs on external drive that won't play anymore. The files are there taking HD space but clicking iTunes play button does nothing, preview will not open the little player and in iPods when pressing the play those songs will jump to next song after 2 seconds.     Same thing happened to me. All of my songs played fine this morning. I upgrade to the latest iTunes after seeing it announced on the website... and after waiting what seemed to be forever for it to analyize my music it would no longer play anything. I would double click a song and the play symbol would change to pause, but the time slider wouldn't move and no sound came out of my speakers. I freaked out and checked on here, but no answers yet. I went and moved all of the plugins i had out of the itunes plugins folder (including eyephedrine, oss3d, barquee, and nastyfft) and restarted iTunes. Everything seems to work fine now but that was quite a scare. I'm guessing oss3d locked it up somehow.

    You need to go back to 7.4.2. I had the same problem and went to 7.4.3 and it still didn't work. Your problems should be resolved if you roll it back one prior. Here is the link:

  • Downloaded iTunes song will not play

    Yesterday I purchased a song from iTunes. It will not play at all.
    I only have the one account and have not authorized any additional computers. It shows up in the library but when I double click the song it does nothing. If I play the preceding song iTunes skips the new song and places the one after. All artwork and everything appears to have been downloaded properly.
    Additionally, I downloaded a nother song earlier yesterday and I have no problems with it.

    I bought a song from iTunes, and when I tap to play it it goes onto the album artwork and pause/play button and then instantly goes to the next track, without making a sound.     Try these steps to fix the issue:
    1) Delete the songs that aren't playing from your iTunes library.

    Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
    If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
    - Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
    - Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
    - Download your previously purchased song from this list.

    Depending upon what country that you are in have you tried deleting and redownloading it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes ? If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

    Thanks for this post. It corrected my similar issue. Note that you need to exit from/re-enter iTunes after deleting the song from your Purchased list.

    I should add that every time I remove the iPod from my computer to try and see if any of the songs are back it asks me for a language just like the first time you start it up. Kinda like it forgets everytime I plug it into the computer.

    Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

    When you see a "file" in your iTunes library (inside itunes) it is not showing you the file.  Select it in itunes and then get info -  this will show you where  the actual file is on your hard drive under the "where" bullet.  Try this first for a song that is working.  It will show where your library is, and you can then see how your library is organized.
    Now try it for a song it can't find.  You will probably get the same error, (can't find the file)  However, then use widows to search your entire computer for the file.  Hopefully by looking at the other songs that ARE there, you'll get a better idea of what exactly to search for.
    Finally, when you "add" a song into iTunes, you can be given the option to "Copy" the file into your itunes library (recommended) or just leave a pointer (like a shortcut) to the file.  If you choose this pointer/shortcut option, it can be pretty easy to delte/move the files by accident.  If you move them, the shortcut/pointer will become broken.
