  • My Itunes playlist library got wiped out. I would like to copy all the playlists on my IPOD to the playlist area on Itunes Music but can't drag from my IPOD to that area.

My  Itunes library got wiped out, no playlists any more. I would like to copy what is on my IPOD back to Itunes because I have purchased a newer IPOD nano. I am not able to drag and drop any of the music on my IPOD to a new playlist name on Itunes.

Restore your iTunes library from your most recent backup of it.  If you've not had the foresight to maintain a backup of your library see turingtest2's user tip on Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device, which lists several methods - some using third-party tools - to accomplish this.  There is no facility in iTunes itself to transfer media (other than iTunes Store purchases) from any iDevice to iTunes, and iDevices are not designed or suitable for data storage.

  • Everything on iPod wiped out...now podcasts not updating

A couple days ago I had wanted to add an episode of a podcast to my iPod but wasn't on my XP account. It had downloaded to the XP account I was on, so I figured it would be easier to just update from there instead of logging off and waiting 5 minutes to log onto my account so all the antivirus stuff could load. So I plugged my iPod in and dragged the podcast episode to my iPod in the Source column (it's updated manually). Without warning, iTunes wiped out everything that had been on my iPod and started replacing it with everything on this particular iTunes library. I panicked and quickly unplugged my now empty iPod. I haven't been able to recover any of my songs except some of the podcasts. I downloaded Recover My Files, and it found a good number of the songs, but a) many have been overwritten (whatever that means) and b) it wanted me to pay 70 dollars for an activation code (first time is supposed to be free). Ever since my iPod was wiped out, iTunes has not updated the podcasts, so I manually downloaded the episodes I missed and added them to my library on my XP account. I dragged them to my iPod, and iTunes wiped out every podcast I had salvaged and left just the two I manually downloaded.
    So,
    1. Is there any hope for me to recover my songs?
    2. Why is iTunes not updating my podcasts and wiping out my songs whenever I add new ones to iPod?
    Thanks
ETA: No, I didn't back up my music, it was one of those things I meant to do.

Will the podcasts that can't be found actually play in iTunes on the computer? For the message I would say they will not play because iTunes can't find the actual file.

  • My iTunes library completely wiped out...something about damaged library???

    Hi everyone,
I fired up iTunes and it stated original library was damaged and that a new library was built. I have no idea what happened. I spent few years compiling my iTunes library and now this? I did a search for this damaged file and it doesn't show up at all.
How do I reinstate my original music library? Is it possible?
One other thing. My ipod shows everything intact on it, can I move all my songs back to my desktop. I have no clue...SOS!!!!~

Just because of this I, as often as I can remember and have had applications here and there, would backup my databases. Last night I fired mine up and nothing. The page was blank and after using it all afternoon with no problem. Even made two CD's. I went to the Advanced tab in the prefs and reselected the library as I have a million times before and still nothing. I went and got a back up of the library file and still nothing. All the files are still there (I hope) and where iTunes put them, but the iTunes main window is empty and no playlists. The only thing that I noticed it that after installing a new Library file and starting iTunes the file gets wiped. When comparing the two, there is a dynamic difference in what's in them. SO I have the necessary database, but it won't work. I have also noticed that there are copies of the files all over. What's this all about.
The only thing that I'm really mad about are my ? years of play lists. I was going to export them the other day and got interuppted.
This is crap. Now I have to go dig in all the folders that iTunes buries things in find all my music and start over.

  • 3rd Gen iPod wiped out after installing it on someone else's laptop

    Hi
I'm freaking out here. I recently moved to London from South Africa where i used to manage all my music and had my 20Gb iPod registered. Now that i've moved to London i tried to register my iPod on my new laptop...i put the cd in first and continued with the installation but now that it's finished - my iPod had been restored and all my music is gone!!!!!!!! I am trying to stay calm. I installed the new iTunes and once that was done it still had the audacity to offer me the option of restoring my iPod to the factory settings! What have i done? all the money, all that time..where is my music collection? PLEASE HELP! I don't want a brand new iPod i want my music back!!!

no no, it's not about transferring music from my iPod to the laptop. I have moved to London so i'm using a new laptop altogether and when i tried to register my iPod on the new pc it wiped my iPod clean of all the music i had on it...yes i have the music backed-up but only back home in South Africa, 10 000 miles away
why would it restore the factory settings when i registered it on the new laptop? especially when it never warned me about this or prompted this action
furthermore my iPod was only plugged in for a few minutes which would make it impossible to delete 18Gb of music in that short a time
where the f*ck is my music?!!!

  • Updated ipod, wiped out songs, and now I can't get them back on to to it

I updated my daughters ipod nano, not knowing that it would wipe out all her songs. Now we are trying to get them back on from her library and it only copies 1 song from her 79 and it does not give us the option to send them to it.
    Please Help !!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When the iPod is connected to the computer and in iTunes go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Make sure it is set to automatically update all songs and playlists. Click OK.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the iPod...
    Restore the iPod
Now try putting the songs on.
Also, are the songs that are not transferring purchased (from the iTunes Music Store)?

  • My Itunes library was wiped out, it's all gone!! How do I get my songs back?

My laptop was wiped clean and the entire library is gone, there has to be a way to get it all back

Restore you backup from before what ever happened happened to what ever version of iPhoto you have
The best solution is always to have a good backup and restore it - for more than that you have to share information about what you have and what happened - and what exactly is happening

This probably has nothing to do with Apple, it sounds like your system may be badly corrupt or has some other serious problems.  Try some of the troubleshooting techniques in the second half of Understanding upgrade nightmares*.

  • IPhoto Library got wiped out by itself?

I was trying to reorganize 2 libraries on my external HD, so I switch my iPhoto to external libraries. Then I was using some other apps. Then all I heard was the internal fan going on steroid and within minutes, the computer froze and told me to hard restart my laptop. I reopen iPhoto and it asked me to pick a library and I selected the one on my internal HD. EVERYTHING WAS GONE!! Check the info on Finder, 6.3MB in size. I did a search on any jpg files... nothing from my library.
Is there anyway I can retrieve my photos? All my graduation pics are on it. PLease help!

    D Wo
iPhoto has no way to wipe out a Library. You had a kernal panic.
In the Finder go to the Go Menu -> Go to Folder and enter /Volumes in the window. Can you see another iPhoto Library there? If so, drag it to the desktop.
If not, search for library6.iphoto. This is the main database file, see if it's been mislaid.
File Salvage can scan a disk for erased pics. You'll need to purchase it to recover them.

  • ITunes library completely wiped out! HELP!!!

Apparently while on my lunch break the IT department at work connected to my computer. Now EVERY song and TV show in my iTunes library is gone.
I tied to acess the recovery in the itunes folder on my hard drive and that is gone too.
Any thoughts or help to get my files back?
    Thanks for any help!!

I'm afraid these are the dangers of keeping iTunes on a computer you have no control over. Do you have an iPod with the contents of your library on it? There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • Help!  My computer crashed, and I've downloaded I-Tunes but now my library is wiped out.  Is there any way to recover it?

Sorry for the long title...first time.  Will I be able to recover my I-Tunes library?

I find it amazing the people believe installing iTunes will magically cause their media to appear on their computers.
Time to wake up and smell the coffee... it's YOUR media and YOUR responsibility to back it up.

  • Itunes wiped out following computer crash

my itunes library was wiped out following a computer crash(along with many other non-music files and folders)and unfortunately/foolishly I didn't back my files up
any suggestions as to how I can transfer music from my ipod into the blank itunes library?
    cheers,

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My ipod 4th gen gets wiped clean of music anytime I sync. it then only redownloads some of the music in the library and wont upload missing songs.  They show on the ipod grayed out. How do I get this to stop? re-uploading takes 4 hours.

my ipod 4th gen gets wiped clean of music anytime I sync. it then only redownloads some of the music in the library and wont upload missing songs.  They show on the ipod grayed out. How do I get this to stop? re-uploading takes 4 hours and is never completed.  I only get some of the 6000+ songs I have. This started when I updated to IOS5 i think.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
