Whole music library gone

I logged into music library and all of my music is gone. I tried to restore my computer and it didn't help. Is there a "restore" in itunes? Three people use the PC, so no telling what happened. HELP! Have a lot of time in setting up my library! Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated. NO, I had never backed up my library.

You might get more replies if you post this in the forum for iTunes rather than in the iPod area.
There is no restore option in iTunes, if the music has been deleted from your PC then it is lost and you will need to load it from the CD's again.

I downloaded version 11 on itunes and updated my ipod to os6, when I try to open itunes now, it says it downloaded incorrectly and won't open. It says to reinstall itunes. Will I lose my whole music library if I reinstall itunes?

you will not loose your content at all. It is still sitting in your hard drive even if you uninstall itunes.
Once itunes will be reinstalled , it will re-sync your stuff on your hard drive

You can have two separate libraries, just do not put them into the same location on the computer. You could also create a new user on the laptop, you, and then you would start out with a blank iTunes library, then just add yours to that. It would also prevent you and your girlfriend from mixing content up unless you share an Apple ID.

  • How do I set the songs on my iphone 4s as ringtones? I shouldn't have to buy new ringtones when I already have a whole music library to choose from!

How do I set the songs from itunes on my iphone 4s as ringtones? I shouldn't have to purchase ringtones when I have a whole music library on my iphone to choose from and songs that I have already purchased! I should not have to rebuy music!!
If anyone can help me on this that would be great!  Thank you!

My comment is the same as Dyson2003.
I am very disappointed, as I thought by purchasing a ringtone the set up would be easy - this I find to be extremely misleading. Before iPhone allows you to purchase a ringtone, they should make it very clear that to download a ringtone you will need the GarageBand programme in order to enable the ringtone to work.
I sent an email to the support team, in the hope that they would be able to advise me. I was basically referred to a telephone number for the country that I live in. In writing this email, when finished I think I am going to ask back for a refund.
In reading the above comments, I am even more annoyed because I've googled GarageBand only to see that theirs a cost of £2.99. I am so not impressed!

  • When I download from iTunes to my new iPod nano, can I select only the one folder I have made for download -- do not want my whole music library to be synched.

Am I able to download only a selected music folder I have created in iTunes to my new iPod nano?  I do not want to download my whole music library.  Want to know before whole site sync starts up automatically.

What you CAN do is create a playlist in iTunes containing all the content you wish to be synced to your Nano.  Then configure your Nano to sync only that one playlist from under the iPod's Music configuration tab in iTunes.

  • HT1848 how do I transfer my whole music library from my ipod to the new MacBook Pro?

How do I transfer my whole music library from my ipod to my brand new macbook pro?

You should be able to transfer iTunes purchases as described on the page that you posted from i.e. File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. For music from other sources (e.g CDs) then if you don't have them on a backup that you can copy them from, then there are some programs listed half-way down this page that might be able to copy them from the iPod : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

is it possible to transfer my whole music library from my ipod classic to a new computer?

    Hello there Alex-B,
It sounds like you have your music on your iPod classic and want to get it onto your new computers iTunes library. You can use this article to transfer your iTunes Store Purchases:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer
For non purchased content, or content from other sources please note this:
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, all podcasts from your device's Podcasts app and copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer. Learn how to transfer media to your iTunes library.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Home sharing on the apple TV only shows itunes purchased music, not my whole music library.

Home sharing on the apple TV only shows itunes purchased music, not my whole music library. I can not find any settings to fix this issue.
How do I get home sharing to see the entire library?

AppleTV 2 and 3's main icon Music section is a shambles.
There should be a Music store as there was on AppleTV1. Crazy you can't access Purchases unless subscribed to itunes Match.
As Winston says you are probably not looking in the correct place for local streaming of your music library.

  • N97 software update=music library gone??????

i updated my n97,the songs are all still in the mass memory, but all gone from music library,is there an easy way to get them back,or do i have to delete them all from mass memory, and put them all back on again??? iv had it with this rubbish phone,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try connecting phone in mass storage mode and select show all files, look in 'private on E and delete the files listed, has worked for me in the past !
Storage Drives: (Mass storage E, Memory Card F)
    \private\101ffca9\harvesterdbvx_x.dat
    \private\10281e17\[string]mpxvx_x.db
    \private\10281e17\[string]pcvx_x.db
TIP: Connect the device in USB mass storage mode (File Transfer), to locate the private folder from the PC.
TIP: STRING and x_x will change depending on your phone.
After you've done this, then you should be able to re-scan and re-create the Music Library.
    Good Luck

  • NOW What?! My Entire Music Library GONE?!

It's not as bad as it first sounds but scary enough. For no reason known to me I suddenly get a pop-up that announces a damaged Library file. Then, go on to open iTunes and... Nothing. Nothing listed WHATSOEVER! I do a Find search at Finder level and find that my music files are still around (WHEW!), but how do I get the listing to reappear? Thanks.

[EDIT: I spend so much time in the Windows forum, that I accidently provided the solution for iTunes for Windows. Sorry. The procedure is the same, except some of the paths are different on a Mac.]
As you probably can tell, iTunes maintains a database of your music separate from the actual files themselves. It does this to enable many of the powerful features it offers.
iTunes actually does a backup of the database, giving you a chance to restore a corrupt library, should you ever need to.
    1. Choose "Import..." from the File menu.
    2. Choose "XML files" from the "Files of Type" list at the bottom of the dialog box.
    3. Browse to:
My Documents > My Music > iTunes
    4. Select the file called "iTunes Music Library.xml" and click open.
That should fix you right up, unless you've been messing around long enough to render that method useless.
If the problem is still not solved, choose "Add Folder to Library" from the File menu and select the "iTunes Music" folder at the same location from above. All music files in that directory will be re-added to your library.
Note: if you have music files elsewhere on your computer, you'll need to add them back separatly.

  • 2 itunes accounts, now 1 music library gone?

my brother started using itunes recently, and we are on the same pc account. different itunes accounts, but since he has started purchasing his music, my entire library of 200+ songs has completely dissapeared and only his is there! is there a way to switch in between music libraries, because i tried signing into my itunes and it stayed with my brother's music library. please i need an answer how?

    Hi There,
As far as I know in each install of iTunes there is only one library which defaults to one folder location, wherever is your iTunes installed.
I am sure your music is still there in your hard drive but not being recognised due to the change in iTunes accounts. Go to Edit->Preferences->Select the tab Advanced and check for the iTunes Media folder location, there is where all the music, etc is downloaded, probably you have two folders there, one with your music.
If you want to share your PC with your brother, you should've created another account for your brother, install iTunes in that account. In that way, your installation would not be changed (so the PC would have two users defined).
    Hope it helps.
    Cheers, Marcelo.

  • ITunes duplicates whole music library

    Hi everyone,
I have just moved to a SSD to use in my Mac Mini. The drive is too small to store my iTunes library so I am using a external HDD to store the library on. I copied the whole iTunes folder to the external drive from my backup, then openned up iTunes and changed the location of my iTunes library to the location I saved the iTunes folder on the HDD. I then selected file>library>import playlist and imported the 'iTunes Library.xml" file and iTunes went to importing everything, and its still going. The thing is, iTunes has decided to create a new folder called 'Music' in the iTunes folder and copy all the music to it. This means I have an 'iTunes music' folder and a 'music' folder which both contain the same music, and take up a whole lot of hard drive space.
Is this normal behaviour? And when iTunes has finished importing everything, which folder should I delete?
    Cheers
    Tom

You don't change the location from inside iTunes.  That just changes where iTunes puts the media but not the whole collection.  Note the difference between the two procedures below (you should use the first one).
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in
iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the whole iTunes folder and all its subfolders and files intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • ITunes deleted my whole music library. I was not performing an upgrade at the time. They disappeared over night without me doing anything. How can i get them back without going one by one?

I woke up this morning to find my computer had restarted itself. I don't know why. Must've upgraded something. When i opened iTunes my entire library was gone. The playlists are still there, just nothing inside them. iTunes didn't upgrade over night since it still asks me to. I've tried a system restore to the day previous but it did nothing. How can i get everything back the way it was? I would really like to not have to import it all again individually.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
Would you mind telling me which anti-virus package you use? It may be that it is disturbing iTunes when it tries to write out the fresh database, as it does after almost any activity with your library. I'm noticing more of this type of problem than usual and trying to see if there is any pattern. It may help to prevent a repeat of the problem if you look at the advanced options for your AV package and see if you can find a way to exclude the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.

  • Where has my music library gone?

I've loaded iTunes onto my new laptop, logged on with my ID but there is no music in my library!  Nothing!  Not even a whisper!

    Hello MileHill,
It sounds like you have just downloaded iTunes to a new computer and want to download your iTunes Store purchases to it, and there is nothing in your Purcahsed playlist. You should be able to do that with the following article named:
