Why 2 copies of same App?

Mavericks is dumb.
So I download an App from the develpers website, and I start using it. It has an option to "Review" the app, so I click on it, but it sends me to the App Store where I am supposed to leave this review.
But since I didn't download the App from the App Store, it asks me to download and install. Thinking that perhaps Mavericks would recognize that I already have the App, it would tell me that and not download another copy from the App Store. But it does! So it downloads another copy, seemingly the same version.
But the weird thing - even though the versions say that they are the same, the icon colors are different!!!!! And now I have 2 copies of the same App, running independently of each other!!!!! How weird it that!!!!!
So now I can only leave a review based on the one I downloaded from the App Store, but I also have the app from the developers' website.
So which is one is the legit copy? And if the copy from the developer sends me to the App Store to review it, why is the App from the App store smaller in size in my Application folder compared to the one from the developer, and why are the icon colors different and some other parts during the App look different in style and colors when running??????
This stuff confounds me.
Please tell me why this stuff happens.
Thank you.

Nevermind!
I found the answer.
Some basic portions of the App had to be removed for approval to be put on the App Store. That is the explanation for some Apps having 2 verisons.
That is the stupidest thing I've heard, since Apple wants to be better at doing things than others, but way to confuse the consumer.
Thanks anyways!

  • Why iTunes copies the iPhone apps to my mac?

    Hi Folks,
I've just discover that during the sync process between my iPhone and MBP iTunes (ver10) copies the iPhone applications to my computer ?!?!
    WHY ???
Why do I need to store my mobile phone apps on my mac?
I can't use them from here, they just waste my precious disk space?
There is something I can do ?
    TNX
PS: I'm sad again about apple :-(

And in addition to what turingtest2 says, you also have the option to download apps through iTunes and sync them later to your phone. I usually do this as it is much more convinient to do this on a larger display.
And if you have either a large amount of apps or some quite big apps that will exceed your space on the phone, you could deselect them in iTune and have only those sync'd that you need without deleting them completely.

why do i need to buy the same app for each device over and over again??
and why cant i just pay for the app ones for all devices as long at it is with the same account??
i hate that i have to oay for the same game or app three time one for ipad ones for iphone and ones for mac please do something about that apple..!!!

First, you posted in the Mac App Store forum which are apps for the Mac OS X, not iOS devices.
You do not need to re purchase your apps. Connect your iOS devices to your computer, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Apps then click Sync
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Why can't I download apps I have to pay for on to my new iPad Mini. I have had an Apple id for my iPhone for years and have downloaded app to it, no problems. When I try to download apps to my new iPad Mini, it tells me my billing info has to be confirmed. After confirming with same info that is already there it tells me to contact support, no help up to this point.

Could the credit card be expired?
Beyond that, what you need to do is contact iTunes support, they can tell you exactly what is wrong, none of us here can do that.
In the lower right corner of this page is a 'contact us' link. Click on that and you'll see a page full of info and links, one of which is iTunes support.

  • HT201359 Why have I been extra charged for an app and have been billed twice for the same app?

Why have I been extra charged for an app and have been billed twice for the same app?

We are are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support here, we won't know why.
I don't know what you mean by 'extra charged' (have you made in-app purchases within the app, or are you in the US and need to add on your state's sales tax to the listed price ?), or have you added or changed your credit card details on your iTunes account ? If you have then each time that you do so a small temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - it should disappear off your account within a few days or so.
    Store holding charge : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702
If you've been double-charged then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com .
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Why do i constantly get 1009 and 100 errors even though i'm updating what i previously downloaded from same country and from the same app store??...its just simply awful

It has been like a month since i can't update my apps which i downloaded from the App Store...now i keep getting error1009 followed by error100 even though i'm still living in the same country and using the same account and updating from the same App Store...this is getting awful, painful and very frustrating???is there any solution...even if when i try to download from third parties,i just get sent back to the same awful App Store...So WHAT is the Solution??????????

I would delete the apps that you are trying to update. The MAS should then offer to install the app and it will install the updated version.
If you are afraid of completely loosing the app then either copy the app to an ext HDD or put it in the Trash, but do not empty the Trash until you are sure that the MAS has installed a new version.

  • Why do you have to buy the same app on all devices?

If you have multiple apple products like iphone, ipad, mac..ect. I understand the different versions of the OS but still, I would think they'd have a bundle price or something. I've had to rebuy the same apps over and over. Is there any way around this?

Some apps are universal, most are not.
As provided, these are entirely different platforms.
Just as you would have to buy a movie twice of you wanted to watch it on a dvd player and a vcr.
You would have to buy the same video game twice if you wanted to play on a Wii and a playstation.

  • How come the same apps that are available for my iPhone and my iPad are not the same as the apps in the app store on my mac

I want some of the same apps available on my iphone and ipad2 to be available on my macbook pro app store and to be able to link them through icloud. Is this not possible? If not, why not?

The Mac uses Mac OS X and iDevices use iOS. These are two different operating systems and the apps must be written for each operating system specifically, even when the apps go by the same name, such as the iWork apps, they are two ifferent versions of the same app for the two different platforms.
So, as an example, Safari has been written for three different operating systems, Mac OS X, iOS and Windows. And the Safari apps, as similar as they are visually, are not interchangeable for the different platforms.

  • Why can't I download app in my iPad and iPhone today???

I can't download any update or new app today. What is going on!!! Both my iPad and iPhone  with the same user ID.

Nobody here could possibly know why you can't download apps today. I can tell you that there are no reported issues with any of Apple Services in the U.S. which you can see here.

You will certainly have to provide some more information if you need help, like what exactly is happening?

  • Multiple copies of same document shown in iTunes

All my documents are in a folder My Documents/iPad.  This contains Epub and PDF documents that are read by iBooks reader on my iPad2.  When I go into iTunes select the iPad and then ask to look at the books is shows these books/PDFs in the folder.  That is if I have added them to iTunes using the Add file option.  They then appear with a Tick Box.  If I tick the box and say Apply, they appear on the iPad and iBooks can read them.  However I now have these documents in iTunes shown multiple times. So a documents say Fred.PDF is shown 2 times and in somecase in 3 times!!  I can't see any way to tell iTunes to remove these documents from its record of what it believes there is.  You can Add Files to iTunes but I can't a DELETE.  I can't see anyway to delete these files from iTunes record/database?  One might want to delete Ebooks or PDFs otherwise this database/what is shown under books in iTunes would grow and grow with no way of cleaning it up.

I'm having the same problem. Numerous copies of many apps in itunes but not on my iphone. I also have a problem with itunes showing that I have 5 apps available for update but they never change. The iphone seems up to date but those 5 apps still show as pending update in itunes. Today it showed 8 updates available but after all was done the same 5 remained. When downloading all 8 seem to be downloading but after it finished I still have the "5" apps listed as needing to be updated? Very frustrating.

  • Can iTunes handle multiple versions of the same app?

Now that iTunes, iOS, and iDevices have been around long enough for users to have multiple devices on multiple iOS versions, is Apple doing anything to allow users to run multiple versions of the same app through iTunes?
Case in point I have an older iPhone running iOS-5 with a few apps that are now running exclusively on iOS-7, my new iPhone is on iOS-7. Once I sync my new phone with the updated versions of the app, iTunes usually dumps the old version into the trash bin. But what if I need that older version to continue running it on my iOS-5 iPhone?
Is there a workaround for this? I've considered using an old PC as my base computer for sycning the new iPhone, but I still fear that the new app updates will go to all devices running on my iTunes account through iCloud.
If Apple doesn't address this problem at some point then as the years go by certain iDevices will eventually become completely useless even if they are a fully functional piece of electronics.
(spare me the "that's their plan, corporate greed" replies).
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, the apps SHOULD be developed to work with the new stuff, No, not all apps keep their old versions in the App Store, BUT, finally Apple has ALLOWED developers to have multiple versions of an App in the store.
The problem isn't about retarding development, it's about Apple trying to force users to buy new things that they don't need because the old thing, though it works just fine & has the apps that you need, is unable to be used because the apps have been updated in iTunes. Why can't you allow me to keep Facebook 5.0.1 for my old iPhone 3G that is used as an iPod, Facebook 6.7.2 for my iPod Touch & Facebook 19.6.4 for my new iPhone 8? As of now I can download the old version on the old device, but when I sync it it always tries to 'Update' it & then says 'Can't be updated because this version is incompatible with this device' making the sync take 3x as long & meaning that if my device crashes for some reason or I choose to restore it becasue of problems I have to go find the old version, hoping that I saved it, delete the new version, drag in the old version, THEN sync & then move the old version back before updating from my other device (Having done this with the 3G & iTouch 4 for years I learned that when the sync transfers purchases from the phone it 'replaces' the file instead of moving the old 1 to the trash).
Some of these apps I have purchased, & by forcing the update to remove the old version Apple is essentially taking something I have purchased & saying I am no longer allowed to use it.
Just in the what 3 months since the new iOS came out I have noticed that now over half of the apps can't be run on my iPod Touch 4G.
    It's simple, iTunes should either:
Keep a record of the devices that have synced (I know, it already does) & keep the newest version for the lated iOS in iTunes
Let users have multiple versions of the same app in iTunes & allow us to disable update checks for certain apps
Allow users to choose to download from iTunes the different versions of the apps available from the developer
    OR
Allow users to edit the info on Apps, unlinking them from their original & updates & allowing users to keep an old version & still download a new 1

  • Can I put the same app on more than one iPad?

I'm not sure I can even do this or how if I can.
Situation is I got a New iPad and my wife 'inherited' my iPad2. We use ONE Apple iTunes account. I've dup'ed the iPad2 over to the New iPad. We use two computers and each has iTunes on it. No problems at this point.
Now I added an app to my iPad, and my wife wants it. She went to the app store and it shows as 'already installed'. Again, we're both using the same account (I don't want 2). Looked at Previous Purchases, same thing, already installed, grayed out.
So the question is can I do what I want, that is install the same app on 2 iPads? If so, how?
    Thanks,
    Irv S.

Sure - as long as you use the same apple ID on both devices you can download it to both devices. Why is is greyed out on her iPad is not clear to me - other than the app is actually on her iPad via Automatic Downloads and she doesn't realize that its on the device. Is that possible?
Search for the app on her iPad- swipe to the right from the first home screen and type in the name of the App at the top in the search field. Does it show up?

  • Why are most of the apps (anything that has to search) on my iphone4 and ipad (1) running very slow (or not at all) since iOS5 update...esp google. Search seems to go quickly, but then when I try to open a link..nothing. I have turned off icloud.

I am having the same problem. Did turning off iCloud work? Did you just turn everything off or did you actually delete the account off your iPod?

  • Since Apple already has a SMS/MMS app for the iPhone, which can be used over WiFi, can the same app be installed on the iPad 2?

I have an iPhone 3GS, and realized I do most of my SMS/MMS messaging at home, when connected to my WiFi. Then I began to think, if I'm using the messaging app over WiFi, can the SAME app (which, personally I like much better than the third party apps) be installed on the iPad 2 (which I'm still waiting from back order)?

    Incorrect.
SMS/MMS is exchanged over the same network as calls.
"Dumb" phones or phones not in the smart category that don't have internet access in any shape, form, or fashion can exchange SMS/MMS.
Since SMS/MMS (a poor man's email with cell phones since it is very limited) is a cash cow for carriers and very profitable, why wouldn't cell phone carriers be interested in including SMS/MMS as an additional option (and of course at an additional expense) with a data plan only for the iPad? They certainly are interested in it but they can't since SMS/MMS is exchanged over the same network as calls.
Get me the IPAD SMS app
Take your whining someplace else. The self-entitlement displayed here by some is laughable.

  • Why when it has less apps than my iphone does my ipod touch say it got 4gb on it when synced to itunes ect

why is my ipod touch showing when synced to itunes that it has 4gb of apps when there are 9 apps on yet my iphone that has the same apps and lots more says it has less than 1gb, can anyone help please as cannot put any music on the ipod touch. thanks

try connecting the Touch in recovery mode, then set it up as a new device.
if that fails, you might want to try to put the device in DFU mode.
