Why a pause 3 seconds into song?

Whenever i play a song in itunes, 3 seconds into the song, there will be a pause usually around 5 seconds before the song resumes playing. This happens with every song in my library. Ive downloaded the latest itunes and nothing seems to help. Any solutions to this?

I know for me that iTunes does that only the first time I play a song. Why? Because I have a widget that looks up the lyrics of a song and applies it to the mp3. So it takes about 5 seconds to find the lyrics, and then a few seconds to add it to the mp3.
Another thing could be an album art finder thing you might have. Anything that automatically changes something in the ID3 tags (otherwise known as the "Info" of the mp3). If it happens every time, you may not have whatever widget or script writing the info correctly. Who knows, maybe your mp3s have about 10 copies of the album cover in them.

  • ITunes stops 20+ or - seconds into song, then hangs system

Ever since I upgraded to Tiger, I experience these problems with iTunes: a song will play for 20 to 30 seconds (doesn't matter which song, happens with all of them); I click the stop/pause twice and then it plays again for a few seconds; click stop/pause and then it freezes the system.
These are all songs I've copied onto my hard drive from my CDs. I don't own an iPod, so I've never downloaded them to any other device other than my external hard drive as a back up.
Any suggestions? This is driving me crazy.
    Thanks,
    Mary

I just had this happen to me. It maybe too late to help
you, but, it might help sombody else.
I was reading a web page and listening to itunes.
All of a sudden my music stoped, and I found my cursor
was frozen. Yep my mac had hung. Had to power off and on.
After that itunes could play some songs, but when
I went back to the song it had hung on before
it hung again. Soon everything by that artist caused
a hang. Then every song started hanging after
15-18 seconds of play time. Luckily I back
up my home directory every night. I fixed the
problem by copying the iTunes folder from my backup.
I've been running os 10.4.3 and itunes 6.0.1
pretty much trouble free for several weeks.
I wasn't working the system hard at all when the
problem started. I notice that iTunes updates
the library and xml file after a song has been
playing for about 15 seconds. I don't know why.
I suspect that somehow my library file had become
currupted since replacing it from my bakup seemed
    to cure the problem.
If you don't have a backup you might need to
toss the library file and start with a fresh one.
edit - p.s. - so much for "protected memory" preventing
the crash of one application crahing the whole machine.

  • When i turn shuffle on, my song will switch about 20-30 seconds into the song unless i hold it still...why and how do i fix it ?

Whenever I have my shuffle on and I place my ipod on my waist, arm, backpack or whatever it may be, the song will change about 20-30 seconds into the song. It does this each and every song UNLESS I hold it in my hand practically still when I'm moving. I can't figure out why it does it or how to fix it but it's incredibly annoying. Also, it will repeat the same songs over and over without actually shuffling through my whole playlist, PLEASE HELP !

Ensure that "shake to shuffle" is turned off. Go to Settings > Music and the first option will say "shake to shuffle". If it is on the song will change everytime the iPod detects any movement.

  • Pause at 13 seconds into each song

For every single song that I play, the playback stutters at exactly 0:13 seconds into the songs. Normal playback resumes by 0:15 or 0:16. It does this with every single song.
It started a while ago (several i-tunes updates ago). I'm fairly certain it was fine back through all the 4.x versions. Somewhere in the 5.x it started.
    I'm currently running 6.0.1
Anyone recognize this 13 second stutter symptom??

Yes, other people have experienced this too. It's your antivirus program.
Are you running NOD32 by any chance? As I recall that was one of the problem ones.

  • CPU 100% 20 seconds into every song

It may or may not be iTunes's fault, but I'm just making sure if anyone else is having similar problems.
About 20 seconds into every song, CPU usage skyrockets to 100%, and all I can do is wait until the CPU usage drops back down a few seconds later. Then the song continues just fine until 20 seconds into the next song.
I'm using iTunes 5 on Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2, (256 MB RAM), and I have SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio (which I believe is onboard sound for my Intel Desktop Board D845PESV.)
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. I've isolated it in a number of ways trying to resolve it.
It always happens 13 seconds into playing a track. This applies whether it plays from the beginning, 1 min into the track or if I make is jump to different places. Each time, once it has played 13 seconds (ie first 13 secs or if I jump to 1 min immediately it will be at 1:13 or if I play 6 secs then jump to 1:30 it will happen at 1:37). The CPU spikes to 100%, pausing everything and leaving a 3 or 4 sec silence.
This happens regardless of track length. So a 1 hour dj set will have the CPU spike at 13 secs and then be fine for the next hour.
It seems to me to be related to some sort of buffering or something similar in Itunes. I have worked out that once it has caused the CPU spike I can restart the same track and it will play through without a hiccup. If I play the next track and then come back to the first track, though, it will glitch at 13 secs again. I can also make it glitch on a replay of the first track without playing any others by changing the tracks that are to come after it in the playlist. This seems to suggest it is related to buffering the coming track(s).
I can make the silent gaps go away by reducing the size of my music library considerably. It is over 45 gig now. If I reduce it to below 20 gig the CPU spiking occurs but not at 100% and so not causing the silences. The problems is still there, though, and itunes has played my 40 gig library fine for months without any such problems.
Recent changes have included a few software installs. I have removed those that I could (eg Nero) but I do still have one photo editing programme that I need for a current job. I had removed quicktime from my startup but seeing a suggestion that this caused such a problem I have put it back. This has not fixed the problem for me.
I have also bought a shuffle and would have probably run the software related to that. If you had a problem when you added a mini perhaps it's due to some sort of error arising from the software coming with new ipods when used with existing itunes installations? Just a guess.
    I'm running Itunes 4.7.1.30
If anyone can help with this I would be most grateful as it is making Itunes unusable on my computer. I'm going to have to go back to playing cds!!!

  • Music stutters about 10-12 seconds into playing a new song.

I had to rebuild my OS, and after reinstalling iTunes and all my music (8746 mp3s - all legal!) I am having play-back problems.
After the song has stated (about 10-12 seconds into a song) the song stutters and pauses. I have tried changing the buffer size. That had no effect. I have gone into my QuickTime prefs and set the audio output to "Safe Mode" wave output only. That had no effect.
I notice I do not get the stutter as much when iTunes is not the front application.
Could this be because iTunes is storing some playback info to the file and waiting for Windows to update some file/folder info?
Or could this be because iTunes is contacting the Music Store about my song, and causing some delay?
    Anyone else have this problem?

The usual cause of this particular problem is an anti-virus or anti-malware program scanning the *.tmp files that iTunes creates from time to time. iTunes isn't particularly great at holding onto its file handles, and so when an overzealous scanning program does its thing, iTunes has to wait and this causes it to use a lot of CPU stupidly.
This is both a problem with iTunes doing silly things and a problem with some scanning program being overzealous and scanning unnecessarily. The quick fix is to modify your scanning program to not scan the ...My Documents\My Music\iTunes directory. Look at your scanning programs and try to find a place where you can set exclusions and such.

I recently started running and downloaded the Couch to 5K webcasts, while running how do I get my podcast to play one song in it's entirety and move to the next and not skip to the next after a few seconds into the song?  I beleive it's the motion of the running that is causing it, is there a setting I need to change?

    Hello nowrunning,
Is the "Shake to Shuffle" option turned on in your iPod's settings?  To check, head to Settings -> Music -> Shake to Shuffle and make sure it is set to Off.

With iPhoto open click Help from the iPhoto menu bar top of your screen. From the drop down menu click iPhoto Help.
Type slideshow music  in the search field top right corner of that window.
You should see:   To add music to a slideshow    instructions.

  • When playing songs on my ipod the tracks begin 21 seconds into the song

Something weird is going on with my 3rd gen iPod Touch (32gb). When I play music, very often I run into a problem where all or most of the tracks in an album will begin playing 21 seconds into a song. For instance, I might select the first track in an album and it begins playing at 0:21. I can jump back to the beginning of the track and it plays normally, but then when the song ends it begins playing the next track at 0:21. This will continue for most of the tracks in a given album (but sometimes not all). I can always skip back to the beginning of the track, but each time an affected track is played it begins at 0:21.
I have reset my iPod to factory settings and then restored to a back up. I'm currently using iOS version 4.1 and I'm unfortunately unable to update any further. (Further iOS updates require updating iTunes, and I am unable to update past iTunes 9.2.1 because I'm still running OS 10.4.11.)

Additional info: It's not always 21 seconds, but the time remains consistent within an album. 75% of the tracks on The Lonely Island - Incredibad begin at 0:21. Half of the tracks on David Bowie - Scary Monsters begin at 3:16. The last two tracks on Ziggy Stardust begin at 2:24. Etc, etc.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

I'm listening to iheartradio through safari on my macbook pro, and two seconds into each song it freezes up and wont play the rest of the song.

This is really unfortunate. I'm sorry that nothing works. I was going to mention holding down the power button and doing a force shutdown but you already did that. You might need to take it into the Apple store. I don't know if booting into safe mode would help. You would have to turn off the machine again, hit the start button and hold down the shift key after you hear the tone, but normally you would let go of the shift key when you see the apple logo and spining wheel. Maybe by holding down the shift key after you here the tone will cause the screen to come back on? The other option is to start up from the 'install disk' if your machine came with one. You would insert the disk, then shut down the computer, and hold down the C key right after hitting the start button.
