Why Acrobat 9.5.5 Pro scrambles PDF text print, OSX.10.2?

As I'm getting ready to meet with City officials I am unable to print my material and the only option I have is to post a question on a forum, this is just wrong. If I was told to buy an update I would, happily, but I have no idea if that would fix the problem. Thanks, Adobe.

Hi,
This is not happening because of Acrobat update but the reason for this change is that Firefox 19.0 has introduced  its own Javascript PDF viewer.
You can change the settings in browser to use Acrobat plugin for viewing PDF files. Go to Options->Application to chnage the settings, please see attached screenshot for more details.
Hope this solves your problem.
Thanks.

  • PDF Text Print Offset by 1 Character

Has Adobe ever resolved the issue of PDF documents that appear normal, but when printed, the text prints one EBCDIC character forward.  The printed text also appears to retain the spacing accorded to the original letters.

I remember we used to see more reports of this, and now it's very rarely bought up in forums.
My instinct is that it's very old printer drivers, but that's just a first stab at it.
I also have a vague recollection that this could happen if Reader/Acrobat is closed before the printing has completed, perhaps because printing relies on temporary fonts.

  • I cannot open Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10 Pro or PDF files

I can save a word document (word 7) to PDF(but doesn't show me that its converting to PDF)  but does not allow me to open the PDF file by clicking on it, I have to go into Adobe reader to open the file.
I try clicking on the acrobat icon and nothing happens - unable to connect to DDE Server. It was working fine before, it just suddenly stopped working.
I am working with Windows 7 premium - 64 bytes.
Anybody have any idea as to what I can do?
    Thanks

    Hi rileypaw,
Try these steps and let me know if Acrobat launches and brings you the licensing screen:
Delete all the files from following folders:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SLStore
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SLCache
And, delete all files from following folder except cache.db
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ Adobe PCD
    Now launch Acrobat and check.

  • Why doesn't my macbook pro open pdf files from internet?

Nothing happens after tab opens when i try to download pdf files from websites to my macbook pro..any ideas as to what needs to be done to resolve this issue??

What browser?  If you're using Safar, do a reset on it from the main menu.  Your Mac should have a native PDF viewer that has a plug-in in Safari to allow for this.
Or you could always load up Adobe Reader off Adobe's website and work with that after you install it.  I'd try the browser reset first.  Be aware that it'll purge your history, etc.

  • Acrobat 9.4.6 Pro loses italics when printing

Yesterday (9-15-11) I updated Acrobat 9 Pro to version 9.4.6. (The previous version was probably 9.4.5, but I am not sure.) PDFs generated before and after the update that use purchased fonts (Minion, Avenir) no longer print those fonts in italics. Any italicized passages print as unformatted. Before the update there were no problems with printing in italics. The PDFs display the text correctly on the screen. Only when printing does the text become un-italicized.
I installed Adobe Reader 10.1.1. Same result as 9.4.6.
Sending to a different brand printer has the same result.
No problems printing from the word processor (OpenOffice 3.3.0).
Printing from the PDF to a new PDF has the same result. Text is correct on screen but not on paper.
Generating a PDF on this computer and then printing it from a different computer running Reader 10.1.0 has no problems.
What happened? What can I do to fix it. If there is no fix, is it possible to roll back to the previous version?

Engravers Gothic Italic + also  Bold no longer prints out
I use Adobe Pro 9, Word (Office 2003 - SP3) and Windows XP Pro (SP3) and all have been updated in the last 2 weeks. (Updated to Adobe 9.4.6)
Over the years, will all the same software as above, I have used Engraver’s Gothic BT (True Type) font, and especially the italic and bold version of it, in my Company letterheads and logo.
Now, when printing out an old .pdf letterhead document, I find that the Engraver’s Gothic Italic Bold font has been substituted by an odd-looking/unrecognisable font that is not in my Windows font directory, and the normal italic (i.e. not bold) has been straightened back upright.
(It does not look like a different font, but as if the software has straightened out only part of the font, leaving a “bold” shadow italic version in the background).
The old .pdf letterheads look as they always did on the screen, but when they are printed out, something has substituted the unusual Engraver’s Gothic italic font for the unrecognisable one.
A new Word document, converted to .pdf, similarly shows my “usual” Engraver’s Gothic Italic style and font and both look entirely “normal” on the screen, but when printed out as a .pdf, the font is again substituted/replaced by the above unrecognisable font.
(Word still prints out the italic and bold version without problem).
The normal version of Engravers Gothic is not affected in Adobe – only the italic version is substituted – the normal italic is straightened back up and the bold italic is the odd, shadow version.
I have an old laptop that has not been updated in the last 2 weeks and that prints out .pdf’s with the italic version without any problem i.e. it seems that a software update in the last 2 weeks has affected this italic font.
Removing, re-booting, then re-installing the font makes no difference and it is also the same whichever printer I use.
How do I get Adobe to go back and recognise and print out Engraver’s Gothic Italic Bold, as it has done, with hundreds of documents, over the last years?

  • HT2506 Problem with highlighting - scrambles PDF text after saving

    Hi,
I've been having an issue with a PDF which becomes partly scrambled after I edit it (highlighting) and save it. I have tried to find information about this problem but haven't come across anything similar (please redirect me if I am wrong).
The 'scrambled' text is actually a bunch of numbers and symbols.
For ex, the text 'Whether the supervisor is contactable to be able to re-arrange the meeting' now shows up as this:
It seems this is only a display problem as when I select this section and copy paste it elsewhere, it then shows up normallly.
Not all the text is scrambled. It seems to be mainly headings, which all happen to be in bold.
Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?
    Cheers.

Does this happen with all PDF's, or only one? If only one, the file is corrupt.

  • (Acrobat XI) Using Javascript to scan PDF text

I am scanning text in a PDF and reading it into memory using doc::getPageNthWord().  Reading the text from the file using the mark 1 mod 0 eyeball looks like this:
    References
Greenpeace. 2012. Safeway charts new course for
      sustainable tuna. www.greenpeace.org/usa/en/media-
      center/news-releases/Travis-Nichols.
Monterey Bay Aquarium. 2012a. Wild seafood issue:
       Overfishing, www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/cr_
       seafoodwatch/issues/wildseafood_overfishing.aspx.
(Please note that I am unable to determine how the PDF is causing the indent.  I am using three spaces, but a hex editor...well read on, please).
Using the above function (i.e getPageNthWord()) the information comes in like   this:
    Wild
    seafood
    issue:
    • Ł Ł • • Ł Ł • • Ł Ł • • Ł Ł •
    www.
Copying it to a text editor using the clipboard, it looks like this:
    "Wild seafood issue:"
    ", OOHJDO              AVKLQJ.
Can anyone suggest a possible solution to getting the text in a readable format?
    TIA!
    John

I have some additional information.  When I copy the text to a programming editor I see the latter transformation.  When I compare the text, letter for letter, each letter in the cryptic version  has been reduced in value by 29 with a few exceptions; periods and forward slants do not seem to have been affected.  Additionally, the letters f and i, when placed together, are interpreted as a single letter with an ascii version of 195.
I have looked at possible XOR/OR bit fiddling conversions, but have not been able to figure out what is causing the transformation (or causing the transformation to fail).

  • Why won't my macbook pro recognize my wireless printer lexmark x4650?

My macbook pro will not recognize my lexmark x4650  printer to use wirelessly.  I recently had to change router and modem through comcast and have not been able to print wirelessly since.  I can print using a usb and the pc in our house is able to print wirelessly. I installed updates for apple, lexmark, uninstalled and reinstalled printer, tried adding printer manually using directions I found on forum discussions.  Any other suggestions?

I had almost the same thing happen the other day - kept getting a message that my printer was not connected. I went to the printer setup on the printer's panel and the IP address was correct, everything looked as if it should be working. So I just reset my router - figuring that would fix the problem. No go. What I finally ended up doing was resetting my router to factory settings and setting it up anew.
And that's what worked for me.

  • Why does the HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plusw sometimes print only blank pages yet sometimes works fine?

The subject line pretty much explains it.  Sometimes I can't print at all, just getting sheet after sheet of blank pages from the printer, even if I tell the printer to cancel printing.
    Sometimes it works just fine.
Today was one of the blank page days.  Help!
    Thanks!

Let's start by resetting the printer.  Turn it off, hold the # and 6 keys while and a bit after turning it back on.

  • PDF Text Print Shadow?

Whenever I try to print a pdf, I have a text shadow around all of the letters. If I blow up the pdf file there is no shadow around the text. How can I get this to not happen?

Jason - Did you ever solve your problem. Mine is the same. It's driving me crazier. I uninstalled and reinstalled my HP printer with the newest software, installed Adobe reader 8. I'm not a fancy user, but I want to be able to read the tax forms I'm printing. The numbers come out clearly, but the basic form content does not.
I'd love to know how you fixed this!

  • Exported pdf images print very dark

I bought a new color laser printer a Samsung clp-610nd. Samsung support has been awful. The pdf I am trying to print has image, jpgs from photoshop. I use a Macbook Pro. The pdf text prints great, the images are very dark. I can print the pdf on a deskjet and the images are accurate. I am sure this is a color issue but I dont know what I am doing wrong. Any thoughts on where to start?  If I print straight from indesign, the images are also dark. I just dont know enough color profiles to figure this out.

    Stix Hart wrote:
As you've proved yourself this is a printer problem, not Indesign...
    Ah, but which printer?
Without a calibrated and profiled monitor there's no way to know if the image is displaying correctly, and consequently of knowing if either printer is rendering correctly.
Make sure you aren't managing color twice. Either your application or the printer should be using color management, but not both. I prefer to let the application do it if it can.
You can play with profiles until you are blue in the face, but it will be shooting blind unless you calibrate the monitor first, and it will be even better if you get custom profiles for the printers. The odds are equally good that your inkjet prints light as that the laser prints dark. Most laser drivers also include density adjustments that allow you to print darker or lighter.

  • Problems with opening Acrobat Pro 9 PDF files

Hi. We use Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 to convert our product documentation Word files into PDFs. During the last weeks our customers report more and more problems with opening these files. We usually deliver those on a DVD with Acrobat Reader 5 or another older version. (Please don't ask me why we're still on these old versions!) Did anyone experience similar problems with Acrobat Pro 9 PDF files and older versions of the Acrobat Reader? Does Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 work smoothly with the newest Acrobat Reader 9.1 download?
Please post your comments. Thx a lot - Kay

I would recommend distributing higher version of Reader as version 5 is just too old but looks like you can't go there.
Acrobat 9 PDFMaker and Adobe PDF printers by default create PDF 1.5 compaible files. PDF 1.5 compatible files can be opened only in Acrobat 6 and above. That's probably the reason why your customers can't see the contents.
What you can do is to change your conversion settings to produce PDF 1.4 compatible files:
    - In Word, select Acrobat tab or Adobe PDF menu (depending on your version of Word), select Settings
    - Select "advanced settings" in the dialog that comes up
    - Choose compatibility as "Acrobat 5", PDF 1.4
IF you print to Adobe PDF printer, you'll find a similar setting in the print dialog.

Why my safari browser is not opening pdf files?I'm currently using the lat 2013 macbook pro with os mavericks and all my software is uptodate?

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
