Why adpreclone.pl during cloning

Could someone please say the purpose of running the adpreclone on both dbTier and appsTier - on the source env during cloniing. What if you don't run it?
I am asking this question bcos I want to clone an apps environment and use the backup from tape and I am just looking how this is going to be affected.
Thanks

Are you saying I cannot use last night backup to clone an environment successfully? If you did not run preclone before taking this backup, then it will be useless.
Have you ever run preclone on this instance before? If so, have you done any changes after running it (i.e. applied patches, resize/add datafiles/tablespaces, ..etc)?
If I have a problem with the apps database and the only thing I have is last night backup, what will happen? If you have an issue with your source nodes, then please do the following:
- Take a backup of the application/database on the source nodes
- Restore this backup on the source nodes, make sure it is valid
- Run preclone on the source nodes
- Shutdown the application/database
- Take another cold backup
- Restore this back on the target nodes
- Run postclone on the target nodes

  • RMAN unable to read backupset file during Cloning

    Hi,
I'm performing cloning operation on windows to windows. On target I have taken backup through rman using recovery catalog. I've taken fresh backup of database along with archivelogs and delete the obsoleted one using rman recovery catalog repository.
When I connect to Target,Recovery catalog and auxiliary instance after executing some commands RMAN gives error that it is unable to read backupset file. What could be the reason for this. I'm posting the Error Portion of RMAN listing please see it and tell me what could be the reasons as I have taken fresh backups and it seems that it is unable to read that particular backup.

If your RMAN backup exist on target server path.
    Target Server: C:\Oracle\RMAN_BACKUP\
Put it on the same location in the auxiliary server.
    Auxiliary Server: C:\Oracle\RMAN_BACKUP\
During cloning also connect with your recovery catalog as you are using recover catalog for the target server.

Make sure you do a reset, not a restart. Press and hold both buttons, ignore the "slide to turn off" message and let go of the buttons after the Apple logo shows up on the screen.
If you did that and it did not bring any change, try to set it up as new device, as explained in this article:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
If it does not work the first time, try not to use the backup afterwards in a second attempt, in case it contains corrupt data.
If still no luck, get it serviced:

  • Regarding RMAN backup and recovery using archivelogs during cloning process

    Hi there,
We are running 9i database (RAC) in archivelog mode.We are in the process of cloning DEVELOPMENT database using our PRODUCTION database.
For this we planned to take RMAN backup by keeping the production database in MOUNT stage.
In this regard, will it be possible to make use of archivelogs generated during and after this backup (in mount stage), after some days during recovery time, if it asks for recovery after cloning process.
    Thanks,
    Balu.

    Hi Alok,
why there is a need for standby here? you mean to say standby db?
what i exactly need is , whether i will be making use of archivelogs which are all archived during that backup period (in mount stage) after some days, if i face any problem with the PRODUCTION Database..

After updating from 10.8.2 to 10.8.3 my Macbook Air 13" mid 2012 started to shutdown during booting.

  • Cataloging the datafiles in control file during cloning

    Hi,
Iam trying to clone a database with around 160 datafiles, evethough there is no issue in cloning process, the catalogging of datafiles is taking very long time after the cloning is complete.
some times its taking 24 hours and sometime sit completes in 2 or 3 hours.
i have also done cloning to other databases with around 480 datafiles and it complete to catalog everything in 45 mints.
The isse seems to be only with this database
can anyone pleas suggest on this issue.
    Thank you
    Vijay

some times its taking 24 hours and sometime sit completes in 2 or 3 hours.
The isse seems to be only with this databaseIs it an issue only with this database OR with this ASM instance ? For example, do you clone / catalog other databases / datafiles in the same ASM ? Do they run faster than this ?
What is the SGA size for the ASM instance ?
Does the database in question undergo frequent ADD TABLESPACE, DATAFILE and DROP TABLESPACE executions (that would impact the controlfile and the data dictionary) ?

  • "The java class is not found:"  during cloning

    Hi.
I've just cloned an 11.5.10.2 environment from one AIX5.2 server running 9.2.0.7 to another server at the same AIX and RDBMS level.
After running the clone steps, the application was automatically started and I was able to access it via Self Service, forms, run concurrent requests etc - in short, I had a working system.
Now, however, when I try to stop or start the application using adstrtal.sh/adstpall.sh, I hit the following:
"The java class is not found: oracle/apps/ad/autoconfig/ServiceControl
    Check logfile /data/testcomn/admin/log/TEST_ireaix2/05011011.log for details"
On the command line, when I call the line the script is trying to execute:
    /usr/java14/bin/java -classpath "${CLASSPATH}:${JAVA_TOP}:${FND_TOP}/java/3rdparty/stdalone/xmlparserv2.zip" oracle.apps.ad.autoconfig.ServiceControl -e /oracle/testappl/admin/TEST_ireaix2.xml -u apps/starl1ght -m 2 -l yadda –debug
I'm able to bypass this particular error and some of the application processes do start but not all of them and obviously I still have an underlying Java/environment issue.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.
    Rgds,
    Jes

  • Why captivate freezes during the publishing phase to pdf and html?

I have more than 10 hours trying to figure out what is the problem. It is a shame that instead of focussing my self in making the job done, I have to focus my self in figure out why it get frozen and crashes.

Well, I dunno if Ccgbkjgk will answer you, but for me, it's every video I publish to video (to a file) and it won't even connect to YouTube because it says I have the wrong username/password combo, but I've typed the in several times, successfully logged into the website typing them in over and over, and it's happened on everything I've tried to upload directly to YouTube (4 projects).
So, as of now, I've given up on video Demos and gone back to FCPX, which WILL upload to YouTube, gives me more options in editing and is significantly cheaper.
Unfortunately, I still have to use Captivate with it's backwards Mac keyboard shortcuts, and inability to option click and drag (seriously?!?!?). </rant> Sorry for that. I'm up against deadlines and am extremely frustrated.

  • Why Java provides Object cloning even if there is Object reference variable

In both cases original value get changed. What is the difference between these (clonable interface & Object reference variable)

Cloneable is a way to make a copy of an object, so that you now have two objects, usually with the same state. Assigning the value in one reference variable to another variable (I can only assume that's what you're talking about, as your question is not clear at all) does not create another object.

  • Recovery during cloning

    Hi Experts,
    db version 10gr2
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '+dg1/dev/datafile/system01.dbf'
how to find which archives need to apply to open database.
    appriciated for right answers.

appriciated for right answers. You have to apply archive logs as below
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
/*Then apply needed archive logs and*/
    cancel
    alter database open resetlogs;
