Why airport extreme no more powerful than frontier modem?

set up new extreme as new wifi network, thought it would reach out farther than the Frontier router/modem

You can expand a network by use of secondary wi-fi base stations, such as AirPort Express.
Older models of AirPort Extreme had antenna ports so external antenna could be used, too.
Not sure if any reason exists for that in most instances. There are other reasons for the signal
to be limited, due to location, building materials in walls such as metal &/or concrete, or other.
One of my older AirPort Extreme base stations with an antenna port was able to extend past
some structural issue to expand signal to outdoors, and still provide a good indoor signal.

Hopefully you can resolve the area coverage issue by use of additional hardware,
or by placement of the wireless units where they are best able to serve an area.
Good luck & happy computing!

Yes.....IF.....you use a powered USB hub.
I have had 3 printers connected at the same time in the past and assume that more would work as long you have a powered hub to support the number of ports that you need.

  • Why is outer join more expensive than inner joins.

Why is outer join more expensive than inner joins.
Other than it may return more rows.
If you know of any ORA docs on this, please let me know.
    Thanks.

Outer join is inner join with outer union applied on top of it. As you correctly observed it returns more rows and that alone makes it more expensive. Secondly, outer join is not commutative. As a result some join permutations are exclused from consideration, which results in higher cost.

My westel modem (that I rent from my phone provider) quit working with the internet.  My airport extreme seems to be working from the dsl (phone) connection through the westel, then through the ethernet cabled to the airport extreme.  Do I need the modem?  Is the ethernet route less efficent that going throught the internet connection?  If I don't need the westel modem; how do I make the dsl conection to the pone port in the wall?  Thanks for help on this!

Ok, so are you saying that your Internet is or isn't working?  Does it work if you plug your computer directly into your computer and bypass the router (make sure you power cycle the modem when you do this)?  If it is working this way, then a new modem isn't going to solve a problem with your Internet not working.  If it is going slow (try running a speedtest) then you need to call your phone company to have them take a look at why your Internet is slow.  If it runs fine this way and then slows back down when you go back through your router there is something else going on.  Try unplugging both the modem and the router, let the modem fully sign back in and connect to the Internet, after it gets signed in, plug your router in, and then after it boots up fully, try running the speedtest again...See if that helps any?  Sometimes it's just an IP conflict that happens when the dynamic IP that is assigned by your Internet Service Provider changes and the change doesn't flow smoothly.

  • I cannot get my Airport Extreme to talk to my cable modem

I cannot get my Airport Extreme to talk to my cable modem.  Cable modem is a Cisco, new, Charter cable company.  New wires throughout.  Connected to internet currently hardwired to cable modem.  So I have internet service to the modem.

The modem needs an extended power down period in order to reset, as it is "remembering" your computer and thus will not associate with the AirPort Extreme.

Hi..I have an AirPort Extreme base connected to my DSL Modem and has been working fine. But I recently bought another DSL modem along with the latest Airport Express. With this one however I can't get it to connect to the Internet. The light on the Express is flashing green though. Does it mean I have to re-set the settings on Airport Utility? I.e. the old settings haven't been cleared yet. Any suggestions?

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.
    Extreme, Express, Time Capsule

  • Airport extreme won't connect to the modem

I am having issue with the Airport extreme after update the Airport Utility.
Individually, both Airport extreme and the modem/ router (Belkin)  is working fine.
All my Mac system can detect the Airport extreme, but unable to access internet as not internet connection.
Then I connect via the WIFI modem directly, the internet access is fine.
I have reset both units few times, but no luck, checked the firmware, they are all up-to-date.
It seems the Airport extreme is not communicating with the modem.
Does anyone know how to fix it? Many thanks.

the mac address of the old router is probally linked thru a IP lease to your ISP account. You may need to call your ISP and have them release the lease on your IP address. You old router should be turned off when they do this.

  • Airport Extreme: Internet working when directly from modem to computer, but not when using airport extreme. i have hit the reset pin and now do not know what to do.

    Using Airport Extreme:
    - Internet working when directly from modem to computer
    - Internet NOT working when modem is connected to AE
    - Internet NOT working when modem is connected to AE and AE is connected to computer
    - I have hit the reset pin
    Now what do I do?
(in advance - lots of love to anyone who helps out)

What sort of Internet connection do you have and who is your Internet Service Provider?
What is the make and model number of your modem?

  • Why ABC's are more powerful 'interfaces' than interfaces

A simple answer as to what the value of Abstract Base Classes are is that
    (1) They act like Interfaces, allowing for polymorphic abstraction of multiple implementations
    (2) They allow for default implementations, but insist on derivation
For this question, please set aside any value that default implementations provide, and concentrate only on the 'interface'-like qualities of ABCs.
Why did sun decide to make ABCs more powerful as interfaces, than interfaces themselves.
Or... asked another way, in the following code snippet
public void doCoolStuff( ObjectOutputStream os, Fooable foo )
    throws CloneNotSupportedException, IOException
        Fooable foo2 = (Fooable)foo.clone();
        foo2.changeMyselfSomehow();
        os.writeObject(foo2);
}If I said the Fooable 'thingy' has absolutely no implementation attached to it whatsoever, then, what kind of thingy is Fooable?

Functionally: A class can only extend one class, even
if the parent is an ABC, but it can inherit multiple
interfaces. public class Foo extends ABC1,ABC2
    {} // won't compile
Yes that's the common logic. And yet Fooable
absolutely can not be an interface, but can be
an ABC.Interfaces can do X that ABCs can't do. ABCs can do Y that interfaces can't do. Which is more powerful?
This box is longer, but that box is wider. Which is bigger?

  • Why is my new Airport Extreme loading sites slower than my old Airport Express

I replaced my 2007 Airport Express with the newest model Airport Extreme yesterday. Speed tests show that my download speeds are 60% higher with the new Extreme.  However, when I load sites in Safari, Chrome or Firefox, they are much slower to load (e.g. 16 seconds to load Netflix)  than before.  Your help would be appreciated.

These can be difficult issues to sort out..
You need to LAN speed test.. ie copy a file from one computer to another on the network.. the second computer should be plugged in by ethernet so it is not going to cause slower speeds.
Then do the speednet test.. also just by ethernet and compare with wireless..
Once you have speed testing.. LAN side and WAN side we can perhaps help you to sort the issue.
We will need as much network info as possible.

  • Airport Extreme for more than 50 users

    Hello,
I need to make a wifi network for 300 users, as Airport Extreme can manage 50 users, can I connect 6 Airport Extreme units in cascade or throw a switch to make it?
Will the DSL manage with it?
    Thanks and best regards.

I can't give you a comprehensive answer, but here are some thoughts:
    - A "255.255.255" subnet (which seems to be the only type that an AIrPort base station supports) only allows 254 unique IP addresses. This means that you'd have to use two different subnets to support 300 users. This in turn could have implications for resource sharing.
    - I believe you'd have to define a separate Wi-Fi network for each AirPort Extreme, allowing the first to issue IP addresses in the range x.x.x.2 through x.x.x.51, the second x.x.x.52 through x.x.x.101, and so on. Each user would be assigned to a particular Wi-Fi network.
Will the DSL manage with it?
If there's much Internet access from those 300 users, that would put quite a load on a typical DSL link. What data rate is that DSL link supposed to provide? If you divide that by 300, is the result an acceptable rate per user?
My overall impression is that AirPort units and DSL aren't up to the task you want them to perform.

  • Why SQL2 took much more time than SQL1?

I run these 2 SQLs sequencely.
    --- SQL1: It took 245 seconds.
    create table PORTAL_DAYLOG_100118_bak
    as
    select * from PORTAL_DAYLOG_100118;

    create table PORTAL_DAYLOG_100121_bak

  • Is the Mini more powerful than the 21.5" i5 iMac?

In need of a new home desktop for the family, media, projects, etc.  I have been doing a lot of research on the i7 Mac Mini and the 2.7Ghz 21.5" iMac.  All of the numbers actually suggest that the Mini is more powerful.  Does anyone have any further numbers or anecdotal info that suggests otherwise.  I don't want to necessarily search for a reason to spend more money but want to get the best future proofed machine while spending no more than $1400.

The only issue with the integrated graphics is if are
going to do things like advanced video editing, complex
3D development work, or heavy duty gaming.  For use as
a general purpose computer or home theater computer
it will perform quite well.  It will also work quite well for
any type of application that does any heavy duty number
    crunching.
So, if gaming is a concern, just Google HD4000 and gaming
and what sort of performance is seen and what sort of level
of gaming you could expect to see.
As a music/video entertainment center, go with the Mini for
sure.   Personally, I am using an old 2010 Mini for that purpose
and it handles any 1080p HD content I throw at it.  So the new
ones should be more than adequate.

  • Why fixed layout is more expensive than reflow?

    Hi
i'm a beginner in epub and css.
I noticed that fixed layout is more expensive than reflow and i do not understand why.
To my mind, the work is the same : modify css and some other pages (toc etc.)
so the price should be the same.
sorry for this question which must be stupid, but i need to know:)
    Ced

Fixed Layout EPUB with InDesign currently requires knowledge of custom plug-ins to precisely position objects on the page. You're not getting any help from InDesign. It can be quite time consuming.
Reflowable EPUB with InDesign CC can be mostly done by properly formatting the document with styles, by using the Articles panel, by customizing objects with Object Export Options, by mapping styles to tags, etc. Most of the work is done in InDesign and it requires less time.
I can say publicly that Douglas Waterfall, InDesign's software architect, has hinted that he is leading work on the Fixed Layout area and we may see big changes before long.

  • Airport Extreme on G5 slower than Asus WL-167G

My G5 has been running wireless using Airport Extreme and the small external T-antenna. I am using a Linksys WRT54G router (the dreaded V5 version).
Things have been fine up until now, but things seem to have become much slower with the latest Airport security update (that could be coincidental, but it's as close to putting a time stamp on the situation as I can get).
I have a 6Mbit line, but I'm getting speeds between as slow as 0.77Mbit and 2Mbit.
However, I just used installed my girlfriend's Asus WL-167G wireless USB dongle, and with this I am getting regulard speeds of about 5.5Mbits!
What is going on? Why is the Asus dongle doing twice the job as Airport Extreme? Are there any known problems with the latest Airport update? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Or do I actually have to get an Asus dongle for myself?
    Any way to troubleshoot this?
Signal strength via Aiport Extreme is excellent, so that isn't an issue.
    I'm confused.

It seems the problem went away when I upgraded to 10.4.8. What a strange world we live in.
