(sorry for my englisch is not the best)

hi silversurfer(79),
If I understand correctly then try this: make sure your Network settings is set to Location: Automatic.
System Preferences>Network Preferences>Location: Automatic>Show: Network Status.
or if that doesn't work
System Preferences>Network Preferences>Location: Automatic>Show: Network Status>Select Airport>Select Configure>Select Airport Tab>By default join: Preferred Networks>select your network and delete it>click Apply Now>quite System Preferences. Then go back and add it. Click Apply Now...
see if it works.

  • Airport Network unlocks itself, why?

I'm the only user on an Aiport Network using iTunes, Time Capsule and AppleTV. I also use the internet via Safari. There are other networks in my neighborhood, so I feel the need to lock it. Not sure if that makes any difference in someone using my network since I require a password. After a day or so the network unlocks without my going back to the Network Preferences. I may be inadvertently unlocking it via my normal use of the computer. Any suggestions?

has anyone figured out why the padlock in network preferences unlocks itself. i'm a IMac user and when i boot up it is unlocked and there seems to be a lot of activity going on in the modem/router i have til i go to network preferences and lock it again. my airport is shut off since my att modem/router is wireless. i only use the wireless function for my printers. i use the ethernet cables

  • Car charger disconnecting and reconnecting by itself.

I am having a strange problem with my 3GS. With the car charger plugged in and going down the road the phone will disconnect and instantly reconnect itself to the charger...thought it was the charger so tried another and the same thing. Does it when going downhill. Have determined that it does it no matter what unless I put it in airplane mode, then that solves the problem until I turn airplane mode off then it is right back to doing it again. Anyone else having this problem or know what to do to correct it?

Mine starts it every night at the same place. It is a smooth highway but there is a slight hill. Did it tonight with a brand new charger only way I could get the problem to stop was put it in airplane mode, then could not get it to do it again until I took it back off airplane mode. I have tried unplugging and plugging back up but its still the same. Even tried moving the phone and wire and plug around thinking bad connection or broken wire. Still same thing..like it is getting or losing some signal from the towers making it do it. So I dont think it is charger or the port on the phone.

  • Anyone know why airport keeps dropping when in clamshell mode?

I been using my MacBook Pro for about 3 weeks now and have no issues whats so ever, but then I bought a mini display to DVI adapter and connected my MBP to a 19 inch monitor, which works great, however when I am using airport the connection consistently drops and idea why?

Usually it's interference on the 2.4Ghz band.   Here's a quote from the support article and a link to that article.
Certain external monitors and LCD displays: Certain displays may emit harmonic interference, especially in the 2.4GHz band between channels 11 and 14. This interference may be at its worst if you have a portable computer with the lid closed and an external monitor connected to it. Try changing your access point to use 5 Ghz or a lower 2.4 GHz channel.

  • Why is vpn turning itself on on my iphone?

The VPN is turning itself on on my iPhone 4. I didn't turn it on. I never set one up. I turned it off six times. Then I turned the phone off and restarted  it. It came back on. So then I hard restarted the phone, and it came back on once. I turned it off, but I'm afraid it will turn itself back on, and I have no idea why. Any help on how to stop this once and for all? Thanks.
    P.S. running latest ios6.

Restore the phone in iTunes, first using a backup, and if needed as a new iPhone without using a backup.  If this still happens after restoring as new, there is a hardware problem than needs evaluation by Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your country.

  • Why is Firefox closing itself intermittenly?

A month or two ago I started having the issue where Firefox closes itself. It happens a couple times a day and seems to be totally random. Sometimes I'm clicking on something, sometimes I come back to me PC and it has closed while I'm gone.
I have always allowed the automatic updates so I think it's version related where at some point a new version introduced this behavior.
I stopped briefly when I upgraded to version 10.0, at that point it worked without closing for several days (a first). Now it upgraded to version 10.0.1 and it is closing again.
Is there a way to see why it is closing and is anyone else reporting this issue? This is my corporate PC and we run Windows updates weekly so I am current on those updates.

    Hey btauer,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
There is also a lot of useful stuff in the [[Firefox crashes]] Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues#w_firefox-crashes-when-i-start-it this article] as well.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Airport Card Turns Itself Off (Macbook OS 10.5.8)

My girlfriend's Macbook has spontaneously begun turning off its airport extreme card. I can turn it back on, but it will only stay active for 30 seconds or so before it shuts itself off again. All of the network settings appear normal and I've tried a few basic troubleshooting things (like removing the battery and holding down the power button).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
It might help to reset the connection settings on that Mac using these steps one at a time until it works again:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    3) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    4) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    5) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.
If that doesn't help, I'd run the diagnostics that came with that Mac. If that still doesn't show you anything, I don't have any more suggestions.

  • Why Airport?

I have a broadband connection through Demon Internet, an Apple Power PC 1.6Ghz running 10.5.8, and a couple of PC's and an X-Box upstirs in the kids' rooms.
I can get a combined adsl modem / wireless router from Netgear, D-Link etc for about £40.
Or I can buy an Airport Extreme router for £130, to which I then have to add a standalone modem, which will probably cost me another £30.
I am not techie at all. I'm good with Photoshop, Excel, and some specialist applications which I use for work, but when it comes to modems and networks, I have absolutely no idea, so I need explanations in words of a limited number of syllables...
Can someone help me understand why I would consider the Airport Extreme option?

Thanks for the response, which I know is meant to be helpful, but;-
1 _wired and wireless?_ yes. my mac downstairs wired, two pcs and an xbox upstairs wireless. just like i've got with my existing netgear router.
2 _support for 802.11n?_ b and g works now. is n really 5 times faster? isn't that limited by my service provider? please refer to my point about words with a limited number of syllables.
3 _2.4 and 5 ghz?_ don't know. website says this stop interference from mobile phones etc. but i don't get any... see point 2 above.
4 _share a usb printer or hard drive?_ no
5 _extend wireless network to all parts of the house?_ the netgear router already does that.
6 _gateway or a router?_ i've got a combined modem/router. why would i need a gateway? as point 2 above.
7 _wireless encryption?_ no. if someone wants to hop on my network wirelessly, they are welcome.
8 _web based or dedicated software utility?_ as point 2 above.
9 _do i want control over where clients (aka my children) have access to on the internet?_ yes that would be good, but not if it costs me £170 for Airport Extreme plus a non Apple modem..
oh, and 10 _do i want apple TV?_ no.
Don't get me wrong. I don't like the Netgear router I've got. I would like to replace it, and I am a BIG fan of everything Apple, since my first Mac in 1993. But this does not look like the way forward for me. If someone said simply, it will be miles faster, or current modem / routers will all need to be replaced within 6 months but the AE will be good for 2 years... I would consider the expense. But really, I get decent speeds now with what I've got. The Apple website, and the answer below do not convince me to go and spend £170+ on an AirportExtreme plus a separate modem.
    Or am I missing something?

  • Why does bluetooth turn itself off?

A new game that was purchased for my iPad mini requires bluetooth. But after a certain amount of time, the game cannot find the accessory. I go back to the settings, and find that bluetooth has turned itself off.

    hi Apfelwurm,
why do you say it's not normal.
it always switches itself on after i update. it just did again, this time for 7.1.2.. i t also will switch on after a restore.
i never use bluetooth and make sure it's not on for any other reason.
it's been noticed by others too.

  • Why Airport USB disk is that slow?

I'm using Airport Extreme at 802.11n to connect to the Internet and a 400GB USB 2.0 disk. I wonder why the transfer is SO SLOW (ussually 2.0 MB/s and peak of 5 MB/s).
For other people is this speed too?

I got so frustrated with the slow speed on mine that I actually unplugged it from the APEBS and plugged directly into my MBP. Made me "very very angry indeed"! I didn't have this problem under Tiger.

  • Why Airport Extreme 802.11ac on 2.4Ghz does not support 802.11ac?

On my Airport Extreme 802.11a/c, using Wifi Scanner, I can see that:
    2.4ghz has PHY Mode:          802.11b/g/n
    and
    5ghz has PHY Mode: 802.11ac
    On APPLE website:
"AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time"
My question is why is the 2.4ghz not showing PHY Mode that includes "ac"?
Is my Airport router faulty? if so, I will need to return it.
    Thanks

The "ac" setting only runs on the 5 GHz channel(s) on any router. 2.4 GHz could never support "ac" speeds.
