Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Firefox is displaying unreadable characters when visiting some websites like digg. The sites work fine in all other browsers. I've tried all encoding options in firefox.

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.

• Thunderbird occasionally opens links in Firefox; some open, most do not. Each click on a link produces a new Firefox.exe in Task Manager, Win. 7.

I have tried all suggestions in articles relating to 'links in Thunderbird not opening in Firefox.' None of them work.
The issue is, one link will usually open if it is the first time I click a link in Thunderbird. After that I cannot open any links to Firefox, and each click on a link in Thunderbird (including the first one) produces an additional firefox.exe in Task Manager (see image). Each of these Firefox iterations are generally 49,000+K. They do not seem to interfere with Firefox's operation.
I also cannot right click to 'open link in browser.' Only copying link location and pasting it into the browser is working for me. this has been fairly recent with the last two upgrades to Thunderbird.
Any suggestions?

This is a Thunderbird forum but there should be an option to open in a new or existing window or tab. You might ask over in the Firefox forum for more details.

• Since converting to Firefox 3.6.8, I'm getting messages about "unresponsive scripts" and multiple occurences of "firefox.exe" in task manager which brings machine to crawl. What gives? An, no, I don't have the Poison Ivy trojan.

Operating system: Windows XP Home Edition

The error message string for unresponsive script has "Chrome" mentioned in the path, and seems to have mention of "js" (Java Script???). Plug-in list shown below, (extracted from my machine?) seems right. Some I don't regularly use such as QuickTime, and maybe even Shockwave. I do make use of PDF plugin, however. I could purge Picasa if necessary, but can't continue the way I am.

Hi,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

• I have Firefox 7.0.1 install on my laptop running Windows Vista. When visiting some website, the program automatically default to a mobile version of the website rather than the full website. How can I stop this from happening?

No additional information is available

Changing versions often does not cure problems, but it does increase risks.
* ( Do Not ) Install an older version of Firefox
The search options will not be changed by downgrading, but there is a method of changing that without downgrading.

I am not sure the changes in Firefox 35.0.1 would cause your audio issues
* https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/35.0.1/releasenotes/
The first step in troubleshooting that may be to identify the tab or page involved, then try Firefox with only the newtab page and the problem page open.
IIRC Firefox is intended to continue streaming audio even if a tab does not have focus. That enables users to stream audio in the background whilst browsing. What you hear may be intended behaviour.

You must close Firefox to install the update after it is saved to your hard drive. Follow the instructions below.
There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash. Both must be installed and updated on Windows systems. In Firefox it would show as Shockwave Flash in your plug-ins, if you had it installed.

After closing Firefox to use IE8 or any other program (like InterVideo to watch a DVD), everything is very choppy and slow. I have to go into Taskbar, Processes, and close firefox.exe manually (which is using up all the memory/CPU and should have closed before). Then, and only then, does everything behave normally. What is going on and what am I doing wrong or missing??

<u>Safe Mode</u>
You may need to use Safe Mode (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox SafeMode is a diagnostic mode that disables extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes before starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
See:
Troubleshooting extensions and themes
Troubleshooting plugins
Basic Troubleshooting
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

• A window asked me to close firefox.exe so it could do something (AVG I think). Now, I can't open Firefox at all even after uninstalling and reinstalling.

When I took my laptop, which is running in XP, to get rid of a
number of trojans, etc, the computer tech put AVG on it. Since
then, I have been getting random notices from AVG. I got a
notice and clicked it before thoroughly reading it, assuming it
was another one of these. It said something about closing
Firefox, and I thought it needed to close Firefox so it could
scan something. Ever since, I click on the shortcut or the file
itself to no avail. Nothing happens. I've even tried
uninstalling and reinstalling. Have I unknowingly changed my
administrative settings?

Annette,
#In the menu bar, at the top of the Firefox window, Go to Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions.
# Locate each of the following extensions by name and click the disable button
#Restart Firefox as prompted and see if the undesired toolbar has been removed.
#The extensions to disable are: Crawler Toolbar, MP3 Rocket Toolbar, MSN Toolbar, Search Helper Extension
If you don't need some / all of those toolbars, consider leaving them disabled.
You can probably remove these toolbars permanently from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

Firefox is not open, will not open, but when I try to update or uninstall it says I need to close Firefox first. This is a common problem, as I have seen many posts with the same problem. I don't know what else I can say about it, it is pretty straightforward.
