Why am I able to do a wifi sync sometimes even when my iPhone and iPad is not plugged into a power source?

It was my understanding that the ios device needs to be plugged in to a power and connected to wi-fi to be able to do a wi-fi sync.  But sometimes when i attempt to do this it'll start to sync and complete the sync.  Also at times it'll start to sync then fail.  How does this thing actually work?  Its actually pretty unclear...not like the rest of the stuff this company offers.

You appear to be "forcing" this Sync to happen - regardless of any possible consequences.
In other words, you are deliberately testing the system. Well, that's up to you, but if you use Wi-Fi to Sync even though you're not connected to power, you risk losing data (or it becoming corrupted) if when the battery runs down.
If the battery runs down flat (and the iPhone/iPad stop working) during a Sync, you can be sure that will cause you so many issues with lost or corrupted data, that you'll wish you hadn't forced anything.
It's up to you, but why would you want to do that... ?

I'm travelling and trying to back up my new iPhone to iCloud. I have sufficient storage, am connected to wifi and it's plugged into a power source and yet it doesn't seem to work at all. I'm currently in India. Could that be the cause or can anyone suggest any reason why this wouldn't work?

"gets stuck" - are there any error messages?
If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

If no change after the following steps, your iPhone likely has a hardware problem.
Power your iPhone off and on.
An iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
Restore your iPhone with iTunes from the backup.

  • Me and my wife share itunes acct for iour iphones and ipads how do we stop geting each others e-mails on our own devices

me and my wife have iphones and ipads but we seam to get each others e-mails and would like to keep them seperate how do we do that when shareing one itunes acct

According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account."  You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

  • Suddenly today both my iphone and ipad will not connect to wifi.. I have never had any problems before.  Please help.  Should I reset all my settings?  Should I reset network settings?  What should I do?

my iphone and ipad will suddenly not connect to wifi....
    Never had any problems before?
Should are reset all my settings?
Should I reset all network settings?
    Please help!

With any wi-fi network or with your wi-fi network?
If your wi-fi network, try resetting the wireless router and modem. Disconnect the wireless router from the power source followed by disconnecting the modem from the power source. Wait a few minutes followed by re-connecting the modem to the power source and allow the modem to completely reset before re-connecting the wireless router to the power source and allow it to reset with the modem before trying again.

  • Incessant dropping of Wifi on both iPhone and iPad but not laptop

I have a Verison MiFi (Samsung unit) which I use with my laptop, my iPad 3 and my iPhone.
I have no problems at all with the laptop but, within the past week (when I updated IOS on the devices) the phone and iPad have started dropping the WiFi connection every five minutes or so. I go to utilities and recheck it, and it hooks right up with no problems, then five minutes later the same thing again. The laptop is able to stay connected during this entire time.
This happens whether the MiFi is in the next room or less than a foot away from the iPad or iPhone.
    What I've tried so far:
Resetting the MiFi to its factory settings
Closing all apps running on iPad and iPhone and rebooting both devices
Not using my Bluetooth headphones and turning off Bluetooth
None of these has fixed the problem.
Is there a way to roll back to the previous IOS version which had no problems? Any other ideas? Thanks

tasks are reminders, that are synced with your apple id. If they use your apple id - they should not have a problem. I suspect that your ownership of the list only allows them reading privileges on Outlook and hence does not sync to their apple id.

  • Why do I lose connection to my wireless network ATT Uverse but my iPod and iPad do not?

I am connecting to the internet through ATT U-verse and have had a problem with my Macbook Pro not being connected when other Apple devices are connected. Did not have this problem before, but it is iratating as it forces me to restart the ATT modem each time it happens. Is it possible that Lion is causing the problem. MacBook is about one year old.

  • Some messages sent/received on my iphone and ipad do NOT show in Messages Beta. Why?

In the past 4 weeks I started experiencing this issue: some of the messages I send from my iphone and ipad will NOT show in Messages Beta for Mac OSX. Likewise, some of the messages received on my iphone and ipad often don't show on my Messages Beta.

    HI,
The best I have on this at the moment is that the Messages App is still Beta.
Secondly there have been some changes to the way the iMessages parts are syncing.
This may be due to Apple making changes to the iMessages server and the resultant sync issue to do with that.
Of course in the change over, if my guess is right, some messages may have been lost.
Some of this seems to be altering the  way Messages get Flagged as to whether they were delivered or not.

  • Why is my macbook running slow when not plugged into AC power? It runs fine when its plugged in?

I have a late 2011 macbook 2.7 GHz i7. This wasn't a gradual thing, it just happened all of a sudden. I had upgraded to mountain lion of which I de-fragged my hard-drive thinking it was a hard drive issue, and am now running snow leopard but it hasn't made a difference. Is there like a energy saving option I am unaware of??  Please help, its driving me crazy. Its making my mac literally useless.

  • Why does my ipod touch 5th generation completely shuts off even when its charged and then doesnt turn back on?

This is very frustrating. Like three months ago my ipod touch, 5th generation, just turns off out of no where. It will be charged and working fine but then the screen goes completely black and I can't turn it on. But then after like a day or so it turns back on and works until it decides to shut off again. And the cycle repeats. I'm scared its going to break for good.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still reoccurs, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Why do I have to have my phone plugged into a power supply to sync wirelessly?

What is the point in being able to sync wirelessly if I still have to have my phone plugged into a power supply?  If I have to plug it into the wall, I may as well plug it into my Mac. That's pointless.

Yes, I realize that, but that pretty much makes the wireless sync pointless. You know what I mean? If I have to plug it in to anything I might as well plug it into my Mac

  • Why is it YouTube loads really slow sometimes even when I'm connected to wifi ?

Why is it YouTube loads really slow sometimes even when I'm connected to wifi ?

Hard to say. The speed of your Internet connection. Congestion on YouTube's servers, problems at any point in between you and them... When you are connected to WiFi, you will get a substantially higher resolution version of some videos than you do on 3G.
Are you using the youtube app or are you just accessing it via a web browser.
