Why am I forced to by apps again once new versions are released?

I own an iPhone 4s and just upgraded to a 6. Obviously, I want and expect to use the apps I have purchased. Now that everything is stored in the cloud with my id I figured, no problem. Not with two apps. Not only can I not transfer them with my Mac using iTunes but when I go to the app store I am asked to buy them again! What kind of scam is this? There is no reason why I should have to pay to download apps I already own just because I upgraded my phone. This is extortion at its finest! Very disappointing from a company that prides itself on customer service.

Make a list of the affected apps, it would help to know what they are.
I suspect you are finding apps that updated to iOS 6 version via paid updates. I suspect the previous copies are too old to be able to run on iOS 6, what iOS did they come from?
Sadly Apples lousy app store rules prohibit upgrade pricing, so you have no choice to pay again if you want these apps. You also can't go back to an earlier iOS.

I finally got my iPhone to 2.1 also, but it had nothing to do with the time it took backup. No hangs. Just that goofy message I mentioned earlier. As far as I can tell, the way I avoided the message this time was by making sure my PC didn't go into screen saver mode before the backup completed.

Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.

Trying to run an app on the Emulator for Android:

of course when I do click on the Update button - nothing happens, it just goes back to the main screen of the Emulator.
How do I update it. I now know how to install Adobe AIR runtime into the Emulator, but I can't find how one updates it?
I only installed "adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130219" a few days ago...

Why did I lose my applications when updating to new version?

I have just updated to the latest version for my iPad. Lost all applications. In fact it has taken my iPhone4 applications and put it on the iPad. WHY????????????? Please help. Thanks

You can sync the apps back to the iPad if they are in iTunes on your computer.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes - If you auto sync, let the process complete.
Click on the iPad name on the left sidebar of iTunes under the devices heading.
Click on the Apps Tab at the top of the iTunes window on the right.
Click on each app that you want to sync to the device - uncheck each app that you do not want to sync
Click on the Sync Apps Heading
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.
iTunes will now remember the iPad's configuration for the next time that you sync. Do the same thing with your iPhone - iTunes will remember that configuration as well.
You can always download apps again at no charge (if all else fails) as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought them with.

Here are a number of things that have worked in the past that you can try. If you already tried something in here, just ignore it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

Restoring a backup of my iphone 3gs. Why is my iBook.app deleted and replaced by a useless newer version? This happened before with my old iPod touch. Any sollutions to get the old iBook.app back?

Find iBooks app in the directory HD > Users > "User name" > Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications > iBooks 2.1.1.ipa
Connect your iPhone to iTunes
In iTunes > Archive > add to Library (cmd + O) > browse to file (in my case iBooks 2.1.1.ipa in directory HD > Users > "User name" > Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications)
Press "Open"
This step is optional. Make a copy of iBooks 2.1.1.ipa. Just in case it gets accidentally overwritten in the future by iTunes during an update

Try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

App quit working, new version not compatible, am I out of luck?

I have a Touch, 1st gen. One of the apps quit working correctly. I followed troubleshooting and ended up having to delete it from iTunes. But only then did I find out that the newest version is only compatible with iOS 4, which mine can't be updated to. Am I just out of luck for being able to reacquire this app?

If you have not emptied your Windows Recycle bin (or your Mac Trash can) you should be able to recover your deleted file for the older version of the app. Once you have the *.ipa file, it is easy enough to drag/drop it on the top left pane in iTunes (where the apps are listed) and tell iTunes that yes, you want to replace the newer version with the older version you just dropped there.
Having had several bad experiences with upgrades that didn't work right, I have made it a habit of saving my older versions of apps as I download updates. I think I have about 5-6GB of saved older versions and I have actually gone back to some of them more than once.

Why can't I transfer my apps to my new computer?

I have been having lots of troubles with my very old notebook so I purchased a new one when I got my new iPhone. I am not able to transfer my apps from my old computer onto my phone (and subsequently my new notebook). It tells me that this laptop isn't authorized. Why can I not restore my apps on my new iPhone

I broke my iPhone so just had it replaced,I've restored it from the iCloud back up,but lost most of my apps. How do I get them back? Also it's meant to automatically back up every day,yet since I've restored,it says last back up was last September which is months a go! I don't understand what's happened can anyone please help?

Purchased apps can be redownloaded here:
Open the App Store app > Updates > Purchased
You can not schedule an iCloud backup.
You can run it manually here:
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Back Up Now
or
It will backup automatically if:
It is connected to Wi-Fi
It is connected to a power source
The screen is locked
If any of these 3 conditions aren't met, it will not backup automically.
