Why am I getting "failed to download iOS 8.11." Error? (iPad Air)

I've been trying to upgrade my iPad Air to iOS 8.1 for the past two days but i keep getting download errors to the effect of "failed to download iOS 8.1".
I've tried direct update from my iPad and via iTunes on my MBP 2011 and get the same error on both.
I don't think its my intermet connection as I've downloaded Yosemite since i started getting the errors with no problem.
There is over 7GB free space on the iPad so it's not a space issue.
Any ideas?

Hi Are you using a PC or Downloading over wifi I never use a PC for downloads Try a Reboot press & hold down power button & menu button hold both down until You see Apple Logo Then try download over your wifi If this doesn't work Rest ipad back to Factory Settings This will get rid of any bugs Then just sign in with same Apple ID then you will get al your Apps & data back Then download iOS 8.1 Cheers Brian

  • How can i stop the started process of downloading ios 8 on my ipad air?plz tell me i dont want to upgrade.

i have apple ipad air 32gb ,ios 7.0.3 , by mistake i have started the process of update on ios 8 , how can i stop this ? plz tell me.

The replies don't address the question: "I started getting bombarded with requests to upgrade to Firefox 5.0. This goes on all day, all night...it never stops. Is there a place I can ask you guys to please stop?"
I have the same problem: I also don't want to upgrade to 5.0 (4.0 messed me up enough and I finally got that straightened out). How do I stop those annoying requests? It should have a "No" option.
Please email replies to [email protected] Thanks.

  • I just downloaded iOS 8 on my iPad air. This has caused the file names of all of my PDFs in iBooks to revert to their original file name when I downloaded the file, not the custom file names I gave them after downloading the files. In the list of fil

PDF file names changed with iOS 8

    Further to above
    Progress Notable!
But before I outline the details, I wish to apologise to APPLE for laying the blame at their doorstep for loosing or misplacing those PDFs I have on the iPad 1, when I set up my iPad Air , by restoring from the backup of iPad 1, thus copying all data from the old to the new.
NOT REALLY THEIR FAULT AT ALL
Because a lot of the many PDFs had the same name, ie PDF.pdf, probably my fault more than anybody else's, so I can't blame APPLE for that. Just goes to show one should be a little more precise in creating these portable documents.
No wonder the poor program " lost its' marbles" when doing the updating and conversion/transfer.
However, I was able to recover most of them by personal email, and extracting and RENAMING the PDFs as I located them in their new home.
Those PDFs that we're locked an thus not email-able , I will deal with by
    Viewing
Photoeing (if that's how you spell it).
And re-building the PDF from the photos, in unlocked format, after transferring these files either by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, from the old to the new iPad.
So all is not lost, and I am thankful that my cautious approach to this matter in the first place, gave me the ability for this successful recovery.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I hope this little story of my saga/experience may prove helpful to others yet to cross the chasm of updating.
    Regards to all, including APPLE.
    NICE STUFF YOU MAKE.

  • Failed to download iOS 5 on iPod touch - please help?

I've tried to download iOS5 onto my iPod touch, following the instructions to first wipe it and restore it - it restore with the old 4. version, not the iOS5.  How can I get it to download iOS 5? Thanks

Are you sure you have a 3G or 4G iPod Touch? Only those generation iPod Touch models can be updated to iOS 5.  If you have a 2G iPod Touch, it can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1.

  • TS3694 I can not download iOS 6 to my iPad 3, getting an error 6 message. What do I do?

I can not download iOS 6 for my iPad 3, getting an error 6 message. What do I do?

Here are a couple of things that you can try.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.

  • HT5457 cannot download IOS 6 on my ipad 2. Why?

cannot download IOS 6 on my ipad 2. Why?

What happens when you try ? If you mean that the Settings > General > Software Update option isn't shown then that only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 as your tagline suggest then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

Your iPad will be updated to iOS 6.0.1 (which is the only version that is 'signed' by Apple), so you will lose the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change.

  • Why do I get aperture to download application ?

Why do I get aperture to download application ?

You can buy and download applications in the App Store app directly on your iPhone and iPad, or via the app store on your computer's iTunes and then sync them to your device - they are the only places to get apps for your devices (and you can only buy/download apps from the store that is based in your country).
There is an iPhoto app for iPads and iPhones (I don't know what country that you are in, but this is the link for the US store : iPhoto). That app is compatible with both the iPad and iPhone and you can install it on both without needing to buy it twice - so you can buy it on one device and then re-download it for free on the other (re-downloading). There currently isn't an Aperture app.
For ibooks you can download the free ibooks app from the store and then buy ibooks within it (there should be a Store button in it). Some countries currently only have free books available in them, so you may want to see if you have access to other ebooks apps/stores e.g. Amazon/Kindle, Nook, Kobo etc. Also ebooks tend to have digital rights management on them which tie them to the store's own apps/ereaders (e.g. ibooks from Apple can only be read in the iBooks app).

My brother with the iPhone 4 suffers from that too.
    My iphone 5 doesnt however.
But to Stop Launch when your apple device is connected, 1. connect your iPhoneto your computer, 2.Go to the Summary Page, 3. uncheck the box "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" and then your good for that device.

Your model cannot run a later version of iOS. See below:
See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

  • How do I download IOS 7 to my IPad?

I want to download IOS 7 for my IPad. I would like to do this through my computer so I do not have to remove my apps. However, when I go into updates in my iTunes, the only selection I get is IOS 8. I do not want to use IOS 8 until it is fixed. So the question is... How do I download IOS 7 to my IPad through my computer?

    You can't.
There is no longer iOS 7 available and no longer anyway to obtain or download it.
The current iOS version is iOS 8.0.2.
I would NOT advise updating your iPad at this time.
iOS 8, IMO, is still plenty buggy and NOT ready for older iPad 2 and 3 devices, as yet.
    DO NOT UPDATE!
I would suggest waiting it out until, at least iOS 8.1 is, eventually, released.

  • Since downloading iOS 8 on my iPad 2 it has stopped working and will not connect to iTunes

Since downloading iOS 8 on my iPad 2 it has stopped working and will not connect to iTunes to do a restore.  I have tried to do a reset using the sleep button and home key and all I get is a white band across the screen and then it boots into the main system but it is just a series of white lines going across the screen, how can I do a restore on this?

    Hey dbwithers,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPad after attempting to update to iOS 8. To isolate these issues, let’s try placing your iPad in recovery mode and attempting a restore with iTunes:

  • How can I download iOS 6 to my iPad 2

I want to download iOS 6 to my iPad 2 and there seems that I cannot find iOS 6 let alone download it. Shouldn't it be in the App store??

No, it's not in the store. If you have iOS 5+ on the iPad then you should have a Settings > General > Software Update option on the iPad so you can update directly on it. If you have iOS 4 then you can only update via your computer's iTunes
