Why am I getting slow, uneven video play in Speedgrade??

I imported a cineform hd file into Premiere 6. The file played great in premiere 6. There is no exact preset setting for this cineform hd file but I chose the "change sequence to match clip" option and like I said, it played great. It is a 20 minute 14 gig file. It took a very long time to export to speed grade, but it's 14 gigs changing the cineform hd file to the adobe user codec. Once in Speedgrade, it played  bit nomal but  frequently slow and the sound was choppy too. Why?? I tried the same with a .mov file from my Canon 5d Mark 2 and got the same result. Is it my hardware or are there Speedgrade settings I should adjust? I have a AMD Phenom II x 4 processor 3.2 GHZ, 87 gigs RAM, 64-bit Windows home premium.
Your help is appereciated

Hey ed,
you say in both cases you use 'Sent to Speedgrade' ?  If so, PR will render out DPX sequences (approx. 10MB per frame) so it seems that your harddisk is not fast enough for this workflow.
When you use cineform I recommend, export a EDL (Edit Decision List, XML textfile) from PR and relink/onlining to the Cineformfile in SG.
let me know if that helps,
Duy-Anh

  • My mac gets slow when I play music from my iTunes library

Hi, aproximately six months ago I noticed that everytime I play music from my iTunes library that its stored in my 27" iMac's hard drive, the computer gets slow, the images start to flicker, the animatios on the dock and the one when u minimize or maximaze the windows, also flicker. As soon as I close iTunes the computer works fine again. When I play music from a CD this doesn't happen.
I've taken the iMac to two service providers along theese 6 months and neighther have been able to fix the issue. What they have diagnozed is an issue with the hard drive which has been changed 4 times already.
    What could be the issue?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Why am I getting wavy, distorted video on a DVD made with iDVD?

I made a DVD with iDVD 5 that has wavy, distorted video. It is watchable but you can clearly see that vertical lines are somewhat wavy whenever the camera pans across the scene. An up-down pan doesn’t distort the horizontal lines, however.
The source video file doesn't display this waviness. Also, I created a DVD of the same video using a PC and the resultant DVD didn't display the waviness. The waviness occurs whether the DVD is played on the computer or a TV monitor with a standalone DVD player. From all this I conclude that it has to be a consequence of the iDVD5 burning process.
Here’s some additional information: The PC burned the video from its original MPEG-2 format. The Mac burned the video from a .mov file that I created from the original MPEG-2 file using MPEG Streamclip. (I need to use MPEG Streamclip to restore (actually convert, I suppose) the audio as the source file has AC3 audio that doesn’t play in iMovie or Quicktime.) The resulting .mov file - when played with Quicktime before burning - does not exhibit the waviness, so I don't think the MPEG Streamclip conversion process is at fault.
On the same DVD I also placed a different video from the same source. It doesn’t display any of the waviness that I get from the other video. The only difference between the videos is that this latter video – after the MPEG Streamclip processing - was chaptered in iMovie HD and then exported to iDVD as a .mov file. I’d hate to think that I have to run every video through iMovie to eliminate the waviness.
So is this just an inexplicable defect or is there something that I might do differently to avoid the waviness that I’m getting in this video?
    Thanks, Robert

    Robert,
To me, the red flag is that you've created a .mov file from Quicktime for import back into iDVD. A .mov file is generally a smaller formatted movie, typically only 320X240 pixels in size. This size movie, by default, would look perfect when played in QT. But, to go back to iDVD or iMovie, the movie must be expanded back to a 720X480 size movie (typically the DV stream that these programs want and need), so expanding will cause all sorts of distortion. Can you go back to your original MPEG2 source movie and get the movie info on it? You should be able to see the original size. If it is something like 640X480 or 720X480 then use QT to create a .DV file. This will maintain the original size.

  • Why do I get standard definition videos when i order hd

When I order HD movies or TV shows from the iTunes Store I get both both HD and SD.  Why is this?  Why waste space on my HDD with a lesser quality movie or TV show?

I'd like to avoid downloading the SD videos.  My iPhone and iPad play HD format movies and TV shows so I don't see why I need to clog up my bandwidth and HDD space with the SD versions I'll never watch.
Is there a preference in iTunes I can set to avoid the SD versions?

  • Mac book pro getting slow. Help me.

I have a macbook pro 13" 2011 model. And what I noticed now is that my mac is getting slow even though I didn't use any apps at all. My free memory is still 60 gig something so I don't think this could be the reason why it's getting slow. Any help? I already deleted other big apps and programs. Even though I don't use any program, the mac is getting slow now... what should I do? do i need those mac keeper thing? thanks for the help!

    How's it going Crampy?
By the % on the CPU Processes.
Whatever is using the most CPU Processes is the one giving the most issue.
If you're using Firefox, Safari or Google, see if it's loading flash on activity monitor.
You will see under %CPU how much of the CPU is actually being used by that application.
The higher the percentage, the slower you get and the hotter your MB Pro gets.

Most likely that's not cookie related.
If your sole purpose is to test Oracle, it will be better to install XE instead of EE on your PC. XE will require few memory than EE. With 128M it's hard to test any advanced feature of EE anyway.

Error: source not supported. Why do I get this message when I try to play a video?

Did you copy the songs directly from a CD or did you download the files from a website?
You can use a different player than the Windows Media Player to play the songs if you copied them from a CD to avoid that.

  • Why do i get a thin tear moving thru my video when playing on my lcd?

Why do i get a tear thru my video when playing on my lcd? I have tryed 60mhz monitors & 120's but I still get a single thin  tear moving through the image. It happens mainly with HD footage when there is a lot of camera movement. I have an invidia gtx580 card, 24 gigs ram, cs5.5, 6 core proc. I'm using HDMI as I have a 42" tv hooked up to it at the moment. When I open the invidia software, the highest it goes to is 60 hertz & that is what it is set to.
Is there a setting that will take away this moving tear?

Different monitors, totally dif systems. They are DVI.
This sys is 3 ft sheilded hdmi. I only see the thin line tear when the camera moves fast. The monitor is 120 refresh rate & i tryed a 60 & it did the same thing. Mainly on HD foot when the camera moves quickly the thin horizontal tear appears temporarily then disappears when the action slows

Why do I get a constant clicking through my ear buds when playing music or videos?  I am using Samsung phone earbuds.  The clicking is at a 1 second intervals, and actually partially drops out the sounds. Thanks

Have you tried another set of earbuds so that you can rule out a problem with the Samsung's?

  • Why can't I get live streaming video to play

Why can't I get live streaming video to play in Safari?

Sorry, but that is old info. On my 21" iMac, I'm running 10.7.1 and the version of Safari is 5.1. On my 24" iMac, I'm running 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1. I have even tried to get it to run in Firefox and still no results. I've been able to do live streaming previously, but today I'm hitting a road block. Could there be a setting or preference that I do not have set properly?
