Why am I not getting Mail to download?

As can be seen in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4441007#4441007 I was having problems seeing my accounts and contents of my mailboxes.
Now I cant download mail waiting on my pop server. Downloading mail is enabled, as is include in default checks, but even if I click 'click mail' no mail downloads! I sent myself a test mail which is on the server, waiting to be downloaded.
Yesterday I set Entourage as my default mail program - is this the cause or is there something different? I cant see how to unset it as default, or how to set Mail as default.
I can send emails from Mail, just not receive them.

I had a filter set to send everything to my spam box so thanks for making me look through my boxes before I answered you! Thanks for your help.

so you are sure it wasn't that one?
mine pings on auto checking if Mail is either minimised or hidden, always has, so I cant explain..... I have 'play sounds' ticked in [General] and Mail checks every 5 mins.

Everytime i download itunes it says some of my registry keys for copy cds are not there , why can i not get it to download correctly

Appears essential to keep resource-forked data off Lion disk:
First attempt with Eudora on SL VM was sharing data on Lion disk. Error messages on open like "can't find Table of Contents" suggest Lion ate resource forks crucial to Eudora.
Found success by transferring data from SL Mac to thumb drive, then mounted drive in SL VM so Lion couldn't touch.
While Michael warns against storing data in VM, appears there's no choice with Eudora. At least She's enthroned on a mirrored RAID.
There is Nothing like Eudora! (to tune of "There is Nothing Like a Dame" from South Pacific -- Oops! my gray hair is showing!)

There is no 'Advanced' option at icloud.com. Is this a question of changing the default email address? I quote:

Basically the message is saying the phone can't talk to the place where your email is stored for some reason. This could be an incorrect username/password, or some other issues. Follow the steps in this article and see if they help:

I am on BT infinity. I have the fibre modem and homehub 3. I currently get 10mb download. I live quite some distance from the exchange os underatand why im not getting these super fast speeds... However when i do a speedtest it flies up to 10.8mb and then stays there as if its it a wall! When i check what BT can offer me on the "check my speed" broadband page its says i should get 15.4 download and 3.6 up, but what im actually getting is 10.82 down and 1.65up. Is my connection being throttled as it just seems to stick at 10.8.
Why am i not getting the 15.4 advertised and what im paying for?

I feel im prerty good with PCs and home networks, i've checked my speed using a wired connecttion and its the same before anyone asks me to check.

I think BT will cut you of Infinity at the rate your getting maty. Anything below 15000kbps is a problem. You need to get it checked out. Your predicted speeds by BT checker cannot always be accurate it just depends what the engineer gets on the install, he must of got somewhere at the time around 15000kbps else he would of cancelled the installation.

I get a message the message " Can not get mail. Not connected to server" Yet I am connected with Wi-fi and can access all other websites. Can you advise? My iPad is only a month old!

Has any one experienced not being able to send mail and only receiving some? I get the message " can not get mail. No connection to the server! " Yet I get some mail but can not send out any. My iPad is only 1 month old! It worked perfectly for about 10 days.

I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account? I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.
