Why am I receiving an alert saying, "This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time" when I try to reply?

I'm trying to set up an account for my boyfriend on my Macbook and send iMessages from it like I do my primary account. So I tested it out, sent a message to myself and it appeared under his name, but when I try to reply back, it says " _______ is unavailable. This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time."
But I messaged our friend who also has an iphone and he replied back with no problem. But my boyfriend's message came from his email to his phone.
How can I fix this? Will it fix itself? And are these problems related? Please help! :-)

If imessage is unavailable it will send your message as a text (SMS). He/She may be out of wifi or 3G connections. See the 3rd paragraph under imessage http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3529

Because the recipient's iOS device cannot be reached by iMessage at the time which has nothing to do with your iPhone.
Wi-Fi isn't required to exchange iMessages.

My internet connection works and I can send emails from my phone. Additionally I can send imessages from my macbook. But I can't send imessages from my iphone. The phone is from Canada but I am currently in Puerto Rico so I can only message over wifi. Help!

Exact same thing happened to me today. Used to iMessage friend w/ phone number. Then around Oct, all messages turned into green texts & I never got a response. Then finally decided to leave voicemail in Dec. got an iMessage response a short time later from his email address. We've been texting that way until today when I got the "person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time" alert.
I've seen a lot of people suggest switching to SMS, but they're talking about a different alert--that little ted exclamation point one. Right now, it doesn't even try to send. It's one of those navy blue pop up alerts like when you're in a completely different app & your phone alerts you that you got a text message.
Our timing isn't great for phone calls either. And no guys I know respond to emails ever. I know it's not a matter of being blocked because a few weeks ago we made tentative plans & I was texting to follow up. Until today, I got responses.
I'm not sure what the one suggestion means about changing the contact to @icloud.com. I don't have a cloud address and neither does he.
Has anyone figured out what this problem is?

Lots of users don't realize iMessage will send a text to any phone but using an email address the recipient needs to be registered on iMessage. I suppose when you think about it a text is on the cell network but desktops & laptops are not on the cell network so are sent on the net.
Now if Contacts could be made so that it presented you with the cell number when you were sending a text but the email address only for emails.........

I have iMessage to my friend successfully before. But yesterday when I tried to iMessage him again, these words appear 'This person cannot be reached by iMessage at this time? What does it mean?

Thanks for this thread. I had the problem too. It was very frustrating because he's overseas and we iMessage a few times per week.
The reason it was broken: the specific contact had changed his AppleID password and had not updated it on his iPhone.
The solution that worked for us:
He reset his AppleID (c.f.: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5624)
He updated the password at iPhone (iOS7) >> Settings >> Messages
He updated the password at iPhone >> Settings >> FaceTime
I reset my network settings: my iPhone (iOS7) >> Settings >> General >> Reset >> Reset Network Settings
He didn't have to reset his network settings, and neither of us powered our iPhones off/on.

IPad 2 keeps saying "Application cannot be downloaded at this time" when I try to update GarageBand

I'm trying to update GarageBand on my iPad 2 and I keep getting an error message saying that the "Application cannot be downloaded at this time." It's been saying that for nearly a week. I have 4.8GB of free space. And I just updated to the most current iOS. I've shut down and restarted the iPad multiple times. I've deleted multiple other apps. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?

First check that your device is not full, maybe you may have to delete some photos or apps to make space to do updates. if its not full then you will have to try pluging it into your pc/mac running itunes then doing a backup and restore. Then you should be able to do your updates.
Sorry but i cant think of any other way if its showing as installed already but is not there.

Why can't I sign in to vtok, I cannot access the key pad on my iPad when I try to sign in to vtok. I was able to do it yesterday.

I am unable to log in on vtok this morning. I was able to do so till yesterday. The key pad does not pop up to type my user I'd and password.

Update: Managed to fix this by going into Settings > Safari, then under Privacy & Security i changed 'Block Cookies' from 'Always' to 'From Third parties and advertisers'
Not sure how the setting was changed from its default but yeah.
After this I was able to sign straight in with no problems!

I get an error code (13041, this time) when I try to download Adobe Reader version 10.1.0

My system is still using Windows XP. My banks and epost insist that I must use Adobe Reader, so finging a way to install it without error codes hampering the installation would be appreciated.

Do you remember if you have installed some software prior to this issue?
Delete programs you never use.
If the issue reoccurs in Clean Boot, but works fine in Safe Mode, the cause may be the disabled hardware drivers. You may narrow down the

It sent me here for any questions. It also didn't ask me to log in but rather to reply with my Apple ID in the body of the email to stop the cancellation. Does that sound right?

Thanks for you reply. I'm 99% positive that I'm using the user id and password that I used to set up my computer. That's why I'm stumped. I read the solution someone else suggested (type your user name without @gmail and create a new password. When I tried it, I was asked for my birthday. It didn't recognize it. I know I got my birthday correct. Oh well...
