Why am I seeing a different system font panel in iMovie 11?

Hi! This is my first question here so let me know what other information I should provide.
I've been editing casual projects on iMovie '11 on OSX 10.8.5 and when I go to edit text, I can click back and forth between the iMovie font panel and the system font panel. But a few months ago I must've pressed some keyboard shortcut (not sure what I did) and now I'm only seeing a smaller version of the system font panel. I can change text size but only to preset numbers, not on a sliding scale. And there is no color wheel or anything for changing color options. Any advice to get it back to normal?

Hey TerryS53,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the update is taking a long time to download. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • I don't understand how to use the System Font Panel with iMovie.

I need an explanation of how the System Font Panel works. I guess there's a way to get some of those fonts to the iMovie Font Panel, but I can't see how.
    Thank you.

I have had good success with the System Font Panel. Now all of a sudden, I only get part of it. Any suggestions on how to restore the entire panel? There are no change size options in the corners like in some dialog boxes. I was going to paste what I have here, but for some reason, paste is not available.

  • New Font in System Font Panel- iMovie

I use I-movie to create short videos for clients.  One Client is requesting a special font that is not listed in the systems font panel.  This is the second of this request from clients.  So, is there a way to import different fonts into that panel area?  How?

    Hi
    Yes You can.
    I just did
I started a new project to test
I put a photo into this
Then I selected text tool and selected a type of text e.g. lower third (second choice)
Then drag and drop this onto the Photo in my new Project - NOW
Up in the Viewer I get a title (up left) reading Show Text font's - and here from I can select all font's installed on my Mac.
    SORRY _ NEW INFO
The Font Panel - NO I was not able to change this - only able to use the font I liked in the Movie. Most probably I didn't fully grasp the Question.

  • Why do I see two different versions of a website on Firefox and Internet Explorer? The version on Firefox is an older version of the website.

I use Intuit to maintain a website. After I update the website, Firefox continues to display the previous version while the revised version is displayed on Internet Explorer. I have tried using both Firefox and Internet Explorer when I revise the website, but that does not appear to make any difference. The version on Firefox usually updates to the new version with in a day or two, but the change on Internet Explorer is immediate.

  • Bizarre system font behavior

My PB G4 15" running Tiger has become nearly unusable. The bizarre behavior is that the words in the topmost menu have replaced every letter with a capital "A" surrounded by a box. So the top of my screen has the exact number of letters for each menu item and can drop down the appropriate list, but that list is also filled with words spelled by the same image, an A with a box around it. My desktop icons also have unreadable names. Also, when in Finder, the names of files and folders have same thing, as well as contextual menus.
However, in Finder List view, I can see the names of files and folders. Also, some dialog boxes are unreadable but others aren't. I can use applications, but just can't read the menu bar when they're up.
I would archive and reinstall, but I've lost my Tiger DVDs to Katrina. I've run disk first aid from my older 10.3 and it repairs although it noted improper leaf issues. I thought maybe a different system font was used for those items compared to different system fonts for other items (ie, why can I see names in list view but not icon or navigator view?). Cleared font cache.
Anybody have a clue about how to fix this without booting from Tiger CD. Hate to buy the thing twice. Already have to replace a house.

It sounds like you're missing a System font required for proper display of the Finder. Here are all the fonts that Mac OS X requires:
    Apple LiGothic Medium.dfont
    AppleGothic.dfont
    AquaKanaBold.otf
    AquaKanaRegular.otf
    Courier.dfont
    Geneva.dfont
    Helvetica.dfont
    Keyboard.dfont
    LastResort.dfont
    LucidaGrande.dfont
    Monaco.dfont
    Osaka.dfont
    OsakaMono.dfont
    Symbol.dfont
    Times.dfont
    ZapfDingbats.dfont
They're located in /System/Library/Fonts; if you are missing any of them, you need to get them back. If Apple will replace the Tiger DVDs free, you can download a copy of Pacifist and use it to hunt through the install packages to find the individual fonts you're missing and reinstall them. Pacifist is here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
If Apple won't replace your Tiger DVDs, then you might be able to borrow them from a friend, or else you'll have to pay for another retail copy.

  • When deleting bookmarks from Firefox, why does the program respond differently on similar installs to different computers all running OS X?

    On the subject of bookmarks...
The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, my iMac, and my Mac mini...
If the bookmark is itself a tab on the toolbar, right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu that appears.
The following procedure works for deleting bookmarks on my MacBook Pro, but not my iMac or Mac mini...
If the toolbar tab is actually a folder containing bookmarks and possibly more folders, left click on the toolbar tab to open a drop down menu of other bookmarks/folders, highlight the one you want to delete, then right click on it and select delete by highlighting delete in the drop down menu.
On the iMac and Mac mini, right clicking on an item in the drop down menu of bookmarks/folders has no effect. It does not produce the additional drop down menu at all.
I can find no place to adjust this as a setting in preferences or anywhere else. Can you tell me why I am seeing a different response from the Firefox program on my MacBook Pro than I get from my other Macs?
All Macs are configured similarly and running OS X 10.6.5. All have Firefox 3.6.13 installed.
I realize there are many other ways to delete bookmarks from Firefox. My question is not about how to delete bookmarks, but rather why am I seeing the differing behavior from Firefox in other installs. It may well prove to be an issue within OS X rather than Firefox.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [ ] "Clear history when Firefox closes"

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

  • Email fonts turn huge if I choose any system font except default! OS6

I'm running OS6 on an AT&T Torch 9800 - I understand this is not a new problem but I wonder if anyone has run across some kind ot tweak to help.  If I attempt to choose a different system font, everything looks ok except the fonts in the emails triple (or more) in size.  Even if I shrink the system font to teeny, the emails stay huge.  The only way to get my emails back to looking normal and fitting on my screen is to go to the font selection function and choose "Restore Default".  If I keep the default font and just increase the size one or two notches, I'm fine, but the minute the font is different, the emails are so huge they are illegible.
I know this is not a horrible thing but it'd be fun to look at a different font for awhile and it's impossible given this little "feature".  Anyone find a solution?  I would love to email RIM about this but sadly they seem not to want to hear from us...

  • Dvd studio pro 4 font panel

dvd studio pro 4 i cant get my font panel to come up

I have this great new font - Viagra Bold, any my font panel comes up every time now, and stays up. I can send you about 5000 emails about it if you are interested...
But seriously, if Apple-T isn't opening the panel, try trashing the prefs. If that doesn't do it, there may be a corrupt font preventing it from opening. This system font panel is shared by many other apps, such as text edit, so you might see if it opens there before you start turning fonts on and off in Font Book.
    Hope this helps -

  • I accidently deleted system fonts. Now I can't see desktop folders.

I accidentally deleted my system fonts (don't ask), so my Mac starts up, I'm able  to log in, but only get a desktop picture with no folders or dock. I also was unable to boot up with the install disc. I CAN network into my computer remotely with my wife's mac via ethernet, and I can navigate to my empty system fonts folder, but I'm unable to drag the fonts back into the system fonts folder becuause I don't have permissions. Is there a way to override the permissions via the networked mac, maybe through the terminal? Thanks very much for any help.

Backups? your DVD to reinstall. Setup a new drive or partition and install system and then Setup Assistant will pull the old good parts over.
If you have backups, add a bootable backup "clone" and if not, once you do have a system, start using. Only need to clone the system 'as needed' before updates or making changes.   Even accidental changes.

  • Why different systems between Japan and other SEA region?

    Hello
Just curious that why people maintain seperate systems for Asia (excluding SEA and JP), Japan, SEA (South East Asia), even though now all is unicode enabled?
Still, why again different systems between Japan (dedicated) and other SEA countires? (where in the Font is same)
I dont think its because of volume of business, dynamic changes in the business/governament policies!!
    Thank you

    Hi MSRaju_ABAP,
sometimes there may be security reasons.
But mostly these are management decisions which are not always as comprehensible as we hope.
I worked in a company with two system for the same business, one for back end purposes, one for customer interaction. Both machines were busy all day and night synchronizing their data

  • Why do I see incorrect fonts when I create PDFs from Word

When I first started using Acrobat (versions 3 through 5), it was an incredible product because it could create an exact copy of a document I created with a DTP program. I could send that PDF to someone who did not have the DTP program, yet the recipient saw exactly what I created in the DTP program. That's what made Acrobat great. It worked flawlessly.
Now I have Acrobat Pro XI, and I can't create a PDF from Word and get the correct fonts. I've seen quite a few messages on this forum and elsewhere indicating that other people have this problem, too. But I haven't found a solution. I've tried many things that are suggested--embed fonts, don't embed fonts, and different settings. Nothing seems to work. I've spent hours on this insted of doing the job I am paid for (writing). So I'd be very glad if anyone knows how to fix this.
    A few specifics:
    - Using Word 2010 and Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.3. Windows 64 bit.
    - Most fonts are OK, but some appear to be substitutes. For example, some headings that are supposed to be Tahoma bold-italic come out as something different. It's a lighter weight font. I don't know what it is.
    - Creation method from Word: Acrobat Tab, Create PDF or File > Save As PDF. Either way I get the wrong fonts.
    - Print to Adobe PDF printer DOES produce the correct fonts, but this doesn't help because you don't get bookmarks (which are a critical part of our final PDF product).
    - At one point it seemed that a Word setting, File > Options > Save > Preseve fidelty when sharing this document, but it didn't always work.
    - I've seen this same problem on four computers, all using Word 2010 and Acrobat Pro XI.
Some messages suggest that rolling back to Acrobat 8 will solve this problem. It's hard to believe that's the only solution.

I was starting to think this might be an issue with font fauxing (I think that's the tech term). You've confirmed it.
    Here's what can happen.
Font designers design a font, and (if they have the enthusiasm) bold and italic and bold-italic versions of the font. If you compare carefully, you will see that they are often quite different designs (look at lower case "a" for example, you'll often see that different in italic). Anyway, in an ideal world the font designer has provided four font files. Choose the bold/italic buttons in Word and it (well, actually Windows) picks the right font file.
But Word never forbids you from choosing those buttons even if the font files aren't there. (As an aside, pro design tools like InDesign WILL stop you choosing a style for which there is no font file, because what happens next in Word is considered evil).
If you ask Windows (or Mac OS) to show you a font in italic and there is no italic font file, it will take the regular file and slant each character. This may look different from the italic design font, it may also have different spacing. But to the casual word processor user, all is fine. (The pro designer says "oh my, look at that"). No bold? The font letters get thickened up somehow, often with ugly results, but the casual user is happy, because it's clearly the same font and clearly bolder. These processes are called "fauxing" (from making a faux or fake font).
But what happens in a PDF? PDFs will not faux fonts, and they don't have to. If you make a PDF it's like printing. To print a faux italic font, a slanted font prints. Generally looks no worse than the screen font. To print a faux bold font there are several different techniques, all ugly. One is to print several copies of each letter, slightly set off from each other but overlayed. This isn't only ugly, copy/paste often yields something like BBBOOOLLLDD TTTEEEXXXTTT. Often the printed bold faux font doesn't look much like the screen bold faux font. And here we have your situation exactly.
Now, I see only Tahoma and Tahoma-Bold on my computer too. You could see if anyone seels an Italic/BoldItalic version, or if they are bundled with some Microsoft software (which you'd need to own, the fonts can't be freely copied). But really this is sending the message - use a different font. I'd use Arial, where Windows has had all four files included since Windows 3.1 was released.

Why can't I open pdf's after install of adobe reader? Should I see it in system preferences?

There are can be reasons PDFs cannot be opened. For example, some forms created with Lifecycle Designer cannot be opened.
Are you sure the file is a PDF? Can you open it in Adobe Reader or Acrobat on a Mac or PC? Does it give an error message when you try to open it?

Opening organizer in Photoshop Elements for the first time, I see pictures of my husband, but pictures in my picture library are not there. I do not want to see my husband's pictures. And he did not give me sharing permission. What can I do?

Do you have two different catalogues  (One for you and other one for your husband)
    if yes,
In Elements organizer go to File>Manage Catalogs and check if you have any catalogue listed of your name.
if yes, double click on that catalogue and it will open the media on that catalogue.
