Why aperture doesn't support Fujifilm S100 FS Raf?

Dear Sir
despite of the fact that has passed five years since when the above camera has been released, your program Apple Aperture (now on 3.4 version) doesn't support his RAF file format. Why? Instead I've noticed that you have given support for the RAF of other fujifilm camera.
I hope that you'll integrate the support as soon as possible.
Thanking you in advance,
Giuliano Zanzi

Guiliano,
this is a user-to-user forum.
And it is not guaranteed that Apple will hear you here,
You'd better use the feedback form to send your feature request directly to the Apple developer team:  Apple - Aperture - Feedback

  • Why Aperture doesn't send the RAW file to Photoshop

I've seen the complaint about Aperture not passing the original RAW file to Photoshop in several places in this forum. I think I have a reason for why Aperture doesn't work this way.
The reason has to do with the 1st law of digital RAW photography. "Never, ever, overwrite the original RAW data from a camera's RAW format file."
Because of the above rule, both Aperture and Photoshop do not actually work on the original RAW file. They transform the RAW image data into a usable image using user specified settings (which may be the camera's default setting for that image). The original RAW file is left untouched.
When you open a RAW file in Photoshop and try to save it, you'll be prompted for a new file name. You wouldn't want to overwrite the original RAW file by writing the edited image data back to it.
When you edit an Aperture RAW file using Photoshop as the external editor, Aperture first creates a TIFF or PSD version image file in its library and then passes that file name to Photoshop. Photoshop opens the TIFF or PSD file and directly edits it. Since this version file is already in Aperture's library, when Photoshop is finished editing it, Aperture automatically sees the edited file because its already in the library.
If Aperture were to send the RAW file name to Photoshop, Photoshop would open the RAW file and create a new PSD file. When it came time to save your edits, where would you save it. In order to get it back into Aperture's library, you would need some form of Photoshop to Aperture communication so that Photoshop would know where to save the edited file and Aperture would know to add it to the library. This would require collaboration between both Adobe and Apple and doesn't seem likely.
I have a couple of ideas someone can try. These are only ideas and completely untested. I'd do it myself but I don't own Aperture (see my computer info below for the reason).
    1. Create two folders with automator actions. You export your RAW files from Aperture to a "Photoshop-IN" folder. Any new RAW image found in this folder will be automatically opened in Photoshop by the Automator action. Then you save the edited Photoshop file into a 2nd folder "Aperture-IN". Another Automator action imports this into Aperture.
    2. In iPhoto, if you try to edit a RAW image with an external editor, iPhoto creates an intermediate image file (JPEG I think) which it passes to Photoshop. But, if you drag the original RAW image thumbnail from iPhotos library window to the Photoshop icon in the dock, the original RAW image file is passed to Photoshop. You only have the problem of getting the saved Photoshop file back into iPhoto's library. Maybe this same thing would work in Aperture by dragging the Master image to the Photoshop icon in the dock.

This is all well and good. I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of keeping the "master" sacrosanct. What I object to is not being able to do the conversion in Photoshop (or elsewhere)
What I want is for Aperture to send the raw over to photoshop when I select "open in external editor", and then follow the current workflow (I do my edits, hit save, and a second master is added to Aperture's db.)
It's totally possible for them to do this, and it wouldn't break anything in the system, or the philosophy. Of course it's a workaround that wouldn't be necessary if Aperture's converter were up to snuff. But it isn't, and I bet it would be easier to implement the workaround than to fix the fundamental defects in the converter itself.

  • Why ipod doesn't support SRS WOW?

i compared my ipod nano to my old samsung yepp and the last one has better sound with WOW enhanced... disappointing !
why ipod doesn't support SRS WOW?
    SONY VAIO FS   Windows XP

Samsung and Apple are two different companies. You would have to ask Samsung why they support WOW. Since Apple has not indicated that they support it (to my knowledge) it should not be a surprise that something one player does is not duplicated on another.

  • Any body know why FCPX doesn't support footage recorded in 1080-60P form Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder?, Any body know why FCPX doesn't support footage recorded in 1080-60P form Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder?

Anybody know why FCPX  doesn't support footage recorded in 1080-60p form Panasonic Camcorder HDC-TM900???

I'm trying to decide on a new camcorder between the new yet to be released Panasonic HD-X900M and the Canon VIXIA HF G10.  Currently have a Canon HV 20 which works great, but thought I'd upgrade to newer tech.  Looking at the supported cameras list published by Apple, the newer Panasonic hasn't been tested yet so am unsure if it is the same as the previous model.  I suspect it is.  The newer Canon appears to be good, but spec. say it is only good up to 1080I.  I'd rather have the progressive camera if it isn't that much of a hassle to convert the files.
Thanks for alll your info on this subject.

  • Why aperture can't support samsung NX1000

the picture of samsung NX1000 file formate is .srw, I've read the page, Aperture can support samsung NX100, why can't support NX1000 ?
    can anyone help me? thanks!

Raw support is based on the camera not the file extension.
Even though the extension of the file for the 1000 is the same as for the 100 the contents of the file are different requiring the Raw converting software to be modified to support it.
    regards
In the meantime make sure you let Apple know you want support for this camera. See Apple - Aperture - Feedback

  • Why Aperture do not support mpeg format?

I have bought the Aperture 3 recently and I sadly found that the videos that can see in iPhoto are impossible in Aperture 3, is this right?, I am doing something wrong? thanks for any help from argentina!

You are responsible for knowing the limitations of software you purchase, and for determining if it meets your needs.
Aperture is not a "new" version of iPhoto.  They are different programs designed by different engineers for different uses and different users.
The first thing to find out is if your camera's video format is supported by Aperture.  Is it?  You can find out by following Allan's perfect advice.

  • Why FCPX doesn't support many cool fonts in Russian

Hey guys, does anybody knows if there is a solver for my problem. The case that preinstalled fonts don't support Russian. But I need it to make cool titles. Anybody knows?

    Flipitos wrote:
****, they sell fonts..... I don't purchase such things
Well, then you just have to live with the build-in OS fonts, or make an effort to find free ones you like!
Fonts is sold, just like computers.. you did buy your computer, right??
    You also bought FCPX, right??
Remember that it might have taken an individual or company 100's of hours to create the font you like... and most like to get paided for that!

  • Why Firefox doesn't support alt symbols with long codes?

For example, I try to type symbol 'ґ' using Alt+1169. But instead of this I see char 'С' (cyryllic).
    Also I noticed that (e.g.) Alt+1 = Alt+257, Alt+2 = Alt+258, etc, i.e. cyclically.
    Opera has not such problem.
    Thanks.

    Did you try it?
If Num Lock is off then Alt + & is the same as Alt + Home and opens the home page. Other Alt keys also may have effect.

  • Aperture 2.0 with Fujifilm pro camera

Can anyone explain me why Aperture is not supporting the 2.0 raw coding with the S3 and S5 pro
    Thanks
    Ettore

Fujifilm is using their own proprietary CCD sensor technology. Those sensors utilize two different sizes of pixels in their array, referred to as S-pixels and R-pixels. The S pixels are larger than the R pixels, and Fuji claims this gives them better signal-to-noise ratios and dynamic range.
Unfortunately, the non-standard sensor design means you can't just do a standard Bayer demosaic algorithm on the RAW data and expect it to work. Most digital sensors now in use are employing the standard Bayer array, so it's easy for a programmer to apply similar logic to all of the cameras (with some model-specific tweaks to get optimum results of course, but it's still possible to save a lot of time and money by reusing the code you already wrote for other cameras).
But for the Fuji sensors, Apple would basically be reinventing the wheel with a whole new algorithm designed just for those sensors. Fuji does use Bayer filtering of a sort, but because their pixel layout is so unique, it still represents a unique problem that requires a unique solution.
My guess is that Apple didn't see the economic benefit in developing the 2.0 RAW algorithms for the small enthusiast population standing at the intersection of Mac User Street and Fuji Shooter Lane. Or maybe they just ran out of time and decided to ship Aperture 2 without it.
But hey...at least your format is somehow supported. It's a worse situation for all those Foveon sensors that Sigma uses. Those are so different from the Bayer approach that Apple may never support them.
So if I end up buying the tempting Sigma DP-1 (due for release in a couple of months), I'll probably have to use another program to catalog those images.

  • I have been using Aperture 3.3.2 with Mac OS-X 10.7.5.  This version doesn't support RAW with Nikon D7100, I decided to upgrade to 3.4. On downloading, it tells me that to upgrade, I need Aperture Vers.3!  which I have.  What to do??

Have you moved or renamed your Aperture 3 version? If it is not installed in the "Applications" folder or not named simply "Aperture", then Software Update will not recognize it.
Put Aperture back and "Software Update" should find your version.

  • Why Java Web Start doesn't support Pack200 out-of-the-box?

    Hello All,
Why Java Web Start doesn't support Pack200 out-of-the-box? I was hoping that Java 6 would make things easier by adding direct support for Pack200 in Java Web Start and JNLP without needing to use servlets, etc.? All my clients are Java 5 or above so I can't push the Pack200 compressed version of the jar to every single one of them and there is no selection process needed. But I can't do it because of the servlet or complex Apache server setup requirement (it would be a headache to get customers' web server admins to set up Apache or whatever web server that way).
My question is why is there unwillingness to add Pack200 support directly to Java Web Start and JNLP so that you can start Pack200 compressed jars just like you would start any jar using Java Web Start? Is te a technical problem?
    Thank you,
    Mete Kural

    Hallo,
I didnt try it, but the webstart FAQs read:
Can I use Pack200 compression with the JnlpDownloadServlet?
Yes. The JnlpDownloadServlet distributed in the samples directory of the JDK now supports Pack200. If you deploy yourfile.jar along with yourfile.jar.pack.gz the packed file will be downloaded when the client is running Java Web Start 1.5.0 or later.

For further information you may want to look at
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/javaws/developersguide/downloadservletguide.html#pack200
The configuration of the server and the the servlet (as described in the second link) is as easy as it seems.
I got it working on the first try and it was my first experience with websevers at all.

  • Aperture NOT SUPPORT Fujifilm X-E2 RAW FILES

Can Anyone inform to aperture to please fix Raw Processing of Fujifilm Cameras in Aperture 3.2.1 in todays world when things are changing so fast still aperture is very behind which not support Raw Files from Fujifilm Cameras...

Aperture is supporting quite a few Fuji cameras, see: http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
    Fujifilm
    FinePix S2 Pro
    FinePix S3 Pro
    FinePix S5 Pro
    FinePix X100**

    X-A1***
    X-E1***
    X-M1***
    X20***
    X100S***
Only for the newer cameras the raw support has been released as part of the newer operating systems. You need Aperture 3.4 or later to be able to use the raw support for the X-series cameras.
Since you are running OS X 10.9.2, you could update to Aperture 3.5.1 and use the raw support for the Fuji X-E1. I expect, that any raw support for the successor Fuji X-E2 will also be released for the current Aperture version and not the older Aperture 3.2.1.

  • When will Aperture support Fujifilm Xpro1 raw files??

Does anybody knows when will Aperture support Fujifilm Xpro1 raw files?? It have been pendning for a while already, really hope there will be an update soon. Thanks.

I firmly disencourage people to purchase Aperture these days.
To everyone asking me for advise as a Pro photographer.
Apple attitude on this issue is of abandonement and ignorance of users needs.
Unfortunately, the feeling is that this is going to be the permanent standard.
They are not providing translations, not providing support to models such as X-Pro1 that has received inmediate reaction from major developers, neither do care for users that openly claim for RAW support for an extended model as X-10.
This is somehow another sign of apple arrogance in term of market predominant coompany.
If Apple do not begin to lose sales and an importan market share this is going to be worse and worse.
    Best way: Ignore Aperture.
Adobe is nowadays the ONLY option for photographers.
I don't like Lightroom so I must select my shots with Photo Mechanic, or Xnview and then go to photoshop.
    Sick of Apple.
