Why apply 10.1.0.5 patch to SSO/OID server? [Moved]

The readme for patch 4960210 (OAS 10.1.2.2) indicates that the Database patch for 10.1.0.5 should be applied to the OAS SSO/OID server.
In my configuration, the SSO/OID are on their own server, but the database is an existing Oracle Database on another server.
Does anyone know if the 10.1.0.5 patch should be applied to the SSO/OID server ONLY if the database is on that server and was installed as part of the OAS install?
If the database is on a separate server and is version 10.2, then does the SSO/OID patch for 10.1.0.5 need to be applied?
overall, I am trying to patch my OAS install to 10.1.2.2, and the 10.1.0.5 database client patch is a prerequisite.
TIA

The Application Server ORACLE_HOME uses 10.1 Required Support Files (RSFs). In other words, there are database binaries and libraries in your Application Server Oracle Home. A good example is the shared library libclntsh.so. These binaries and libraries are patched when you install the 10.1.0.5.0 patch set.
In your specific environment you will need to install the 10.1.0.5.0 patch set first before applying the AS 10.1.2.2.0 patch set. Metalink Note 359362.1 (Known Issues Applying Oracle Database 10.1.0.5 Patch Set to OracleAS 10g (10.1.2)) is probably mandatory reading before you start.
One note on portal :
When you apply AS 10.1.2.2.0 metata repository patch set on top of Portal 10.1.2.0.2, you will get Portal 10.1.2.2.0. If you need Oracle Portal 10.1.4, you will need to upgrade Oracle Portal 10.1.2.2.0 to Portal 10.1.4.0 first with the upgrade cdrom in your Application Server Media Pack. After the upgrade, you can run the metadata repository upgrade part of the AS 10.1.2.2.0 patch set again to install the 10.1.4.1 Portal patch.
If your Oracle Portal is 10.1.4.0 already, the metadata repository will take you to 10.1.4.1.
And I even managed to upgrade to 10.1.2.2.0 so it should not be too difficult :-)
Good luck !

    The patch installs the database "client" on the OAS infrastructure tier. The 4960210 will install the database client on the mid-tier, but the client must be install on the infra-tier before the 4960210 patch.

  • 10.1.0.5 Patch for Oracle Application Server 10g Release 1

    Hi Guys,
    Does anyone know what is the patch number for 10.1.0.5 Patch for Oracle Application Server 10g Release 1?
    This is a Oracle Application Server and not Oracle Database server.
    I tried searching on Metalink but not able to find it.
    Thanks in advance!
    Avinash.

    10.1.0.5 is not a version number for an OAS. It is only a version number for RDBMS.
    If you are running OAS 10.1.2.x with the Identity Managmenet/SSO (OID Server), & elected to have it install the Metadata Repository database for you, this was a RDBMS release below 10.1.0.5. The OAS patch to 10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3 required the RDMBS be updated to 10.1.0.5 first. This is the standard 10.1.0.5 update for your platform.
    use Advanced Search on Metalink
    To find the OAS 10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3 patch set, search for Oracle Fusion Middleware Server. Release 10.1.2.2 and 10.1.2.3. Look for the decriptions like "PLACEHOLDER BUG FOR AS/DS 10.1.2.3 PATCHSET RELEASE" OR "PLACEHOLDER BUG FOR AS/DS 10G R2 PATCH SET 2 10.1.2.2"
    To find the RDBMS 10.1.0.5 patch, search for RDBMS Server, Release 10.1.0.5. Look for the Description containing something like "10.1.0.5 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER"
    The patch number is different per platform, so I can't tell you the exact #s without more info (OS)

  • Applying 10.2.0.5 patch set

    Hi Guys...
    I am busy applying 10.2.0.5 patch set on 10.2.0.2 on solaris environment.
    On the Specify Home Details screen--- when I select the name of the Oracle home that I want to update
    or when I select the path that I want to update from the list and then click Next I get the error or warning that says I have selected a non empty path or directory.
    Why do I have to get this error when I am actually patching this environment?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Problem applying 10.1.2.3 Patch

    I have the following environment :
    Home1 => Oracle B2B 10.1.2.0.2
    Home2 => Oracle DB 10.2.0.4
    Home3 => Oracle SOA 10.1.3.3.0
    After applying the Software Update to B2B AS home, should the Software Update and Metadata Repository Update also be applied to the Oracle DB home which includes the B2B and SOA schemas? I assumed the metadata repository update for this patch only applied to Portal & Identity Management schemas. After a software only update to the B2B home, B2B fails to push messages to queues.

    Just apply 10.1.2.3 patch to your 10.1.2.0.2 midtier home.

    Why haven't they done a patch for those of us who have not updated and prefer to use iOS 6?

    Totally agree with Andy. Apple needs to support its users whether or not they decide to update to iOS 7.
    The reviews from i Pad 3 owners (like me) is that when they've updated to iOS 7 they've experienced latency and sluggishness. Why would I ruin a perfectly good iPad by updating to iOS 7?
    Please let me know where I can find a patch for iOS 6.
    Thanks!
