Why are emails to me bouncing back to sender?

I am experiencing problems receiving emails. Select senders are receiving bounce backs to me. They are reporting this diagnostic error message: The following organization rejected your message: mx4.mac.com.akadns.net. It only happens for certain senders.

This just started happening out of the blue. I have been using the current configuration for a couple years.
Any insight?

    Did you migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud in August last year? Or did you open an iCloud account when it was first available? 
    Do you have a functioning @icloud.com version of the @me.com address? - please send yourself a message to that and see what happens.
    Can you log in with this address at http://icloud.com ?

  • My emails to others bounce back even if they are replies

    I get emails from my contact form on my 2 websites. I also get emails from people who have my business card. In about one out of three cases, my reply email to these new emailers bounces back, and the message I get is something along the lines of it being perceived as spam by their email system. They're one to one emails, not groups. I don't use any of the words that might normally trigger spam, and I'm almost always replying to someone enquiring after my workshops. So I'm losing business by not being able to contact them back.

    Some spam filters do not like peoples signature. You might examine what you have in your signature and see if you need to modify that.

    No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for

    Is this some setting in my computer, or is this verizon, or my server? Anybody know? Several emails to verizon people have come back, but as you can see not becuase it was percieved as spam.

    If the email contains too many spammy words or phrases, they might think it's spam. Don't write email that looks like spam...
    You are not blacklisted. Your email provider or ISP is. Contact them. They will have to remedy the situation.

    A number of posters are reporting this problem. It could be a problem with the Yahoo server. If deleting and setting up thevaccount again is not the solution then give it a few hours.

  • Random users getting errors sending emails with instant bounce backs

    I have recently had a fair amount of my users have issues sending emails to internal or external email accounts.  When they hit send they get a NDR immediately with the Error 0x80004005-00000000-00000000.  It does not matter if there is 1 user
    the message is being sent to or many users this is not discriminating in that respect.
    I have found a couple of fixes that seem to solve the problem, some permanent and some it is only temporary.  If I repair the account in Outlook it fixes the problem, some I have to remove the account and add it back in while deleting the ost file. 
    Others I have to do the above and remove cached mode. 
    What is causing this issue?  I suspect that it was and update but I cannot be sure and it all started the same day this week.  We are using Outlook 2013 client and with Exchange 2010 servers.  I have checked the logs on the server and there
    is nothing glaring.  I have done searches and the results do not give a cause, just the fixes which I have tried.  Has anyone seen this before and found the source of the problem?

    Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 introduce new named properties. When used, these may be added to the named properties table of the Exchange Server database. Each Exchange database's named properties table has a limit and a new message with additional
    named properties has caused the quota to be exceeded.
    A workaround on Outlook is to remove any additional mailboxes or shared mailboxes from Outlook.

    The mentioned IP (67.18.137.88) is associated with gateway16.websitewelcome.com. This has been blacklisted by several RBL. This is the reason you are getting that bounced message.

    My friends are getting this randomly from .mac (I am not using my real email here):

    Yeah...uh...you should probably setup a "New Mailbox" on your Mac before you start deleting things. This info might be too late in your case. Call it what you like...but highlight all the messages you want to save but don't want to have counted against your inbox quota. Although I have to say 600 MB for e-mail is rather large. You should most certainly be able to hold more than 80 messages. Unless you are receiving a ton of photos, videos and music.
    Check your trash before you do anything else. Your messages should go there first before they are permanently removed from the server. A resuce mission is in order.
    Also, remember that your mail stays sync'd across you local mail reader and the web based reader. Which I think you just learned.

    When people receive emails which appear to come from their own address but they haven't sent they naturally tend to be concerned: however it's most unlikely that anyone has hacked their account, they've just been targeted by one of two common spammers' techniques: both arise because it's all too easy to forge the 'from' address on messages to be something other than the real one.
    There are two things that can happen. One is that the sender has forged the 'from' address to be the same as the 'to' address (so other people will see it coming from themselves, not you), presumably in the hope of confusing spam filters. It's harmless, if extremely annoying. Delete it (never ever answer spam or try to unsubscribe from it), and you don't need to be worried about it.
    The other problem, which appears to be what is affecting you, is that a spammer is forging your address as the 'from' address on a whole batch of messages. The first thing you hear about this is when you start getting bounce messages because the spam has been sent to non-existent addresses and is being bounced to you. There's no point at all in responding to it. It's infuriating but normally stops after a bit as they move on to another forged address.
    There isn't really anything you can do about it: closing the account isn't really worth the hassle unless you are totally swamped, because you will have to tell everyone your new address. Apple can't really do any more than they already are about spam.

    I just found out that some recipients of my emails from my icloud account are receiving them twice.  Why would that be and is there a fix for that?

    I wanted to update this in case others have a similar issue and think it might be a problem with their mail account. I have since done a bit of follow up with others who have recently recevied some emails from me and found they aren't getting duplicates.  This is not a mail/icloud account problem but rather an issue of forwarding preferences.

    What you're describing occurs when your email provider uses POP rather than IMAP as your email protocol. Are you familiar with the difference? Most webmail providers use IMAP, which is set up for syncing across multiple devices, just the way you want. It sounds as if one or more of your providers is still using POP, the older standard.
    I personally like POP, since it lets me choose whether to deal with emails on my iPad or defer them until I'm next on my Mac, but it's a personal preference. Switch to IMAP-only email, and you should be all set.
