Why are Mavericks icons the old ones comparing with IOS7?

Dont understand why Apple use the old icons (safari, mail, etc) and not the new ones used in IOS7.

You mention that you can't even charge the phone from the USB port. That sounds like a problem with the port. On some laptops/computers, unless the proper drivers are installed, the USB port won't even power up. On others, the +5v line will be active, but it can't talk to anything.
If yours is the type that doesn't need drivers, and you can't charge with it, the port is dead. If it's the sort that needs drivers to even turn on, the drivers aren't installed, or aren't installed properly. This is a more common problem.
Because you said that the phone works on your GF's laptop, and that the cable works (presumably you used the same cable on her laptop and yours) it sounds like your port.
You mentioned that you went from one OS to another on the laptop. I think that's where the problem is - the drivers for the USB port aren't installed, or the port isn't enabled by the drivers.
Check the port. Check the Control Panel and see if the port is active. Better still, see if you can do anything else (print, for example) with it.
"Gap Analysis?" Snort. Pretentious twerp. GA is the process of seeing where we are, where we want to be, and determining what we have to do to get from here to there. If he/she was throwing terms like that about, then they were spending more time trying to impress you than they were trying to fix the problem.
IMHO, of course.

  • RoboHelp 9-New Folder/Topics are not overwriting the old ones.

    Hi.
I am updating a user guide that I did not create. My procedure once I have completed my updates is to go under My RoboHelp Projects in Windows Explorer, find the project name then open it's folder. I zip the !SSL! folder and post it to a common site for developers to grab the files.
I am having an issue with not being able to zip the folder due to a long path name. I have completely deleted the old Folders and Topics and reentered them all, using shorter path names.
When I try to zip the !SSL! folder after my changes, it still displays an error stating it cannot zip the folder due to the path name being too long.
However...the path name displayed in the error message is with the previously deleted folders/topics.
When I go into Windows Explorer and look at the folders which are shown, I still see old information, which I deleted within RoboHelp.
Am I able to delete old items when in Windows Explorer? I thought it all had to be done within RoboHelp. I do not want to risk corrupting my user guide because it would literally take months to recreate.
    Thank you.

    Hi there
So, if you generate the output, then at the final dialog tell RoboHelp to view the output, the new content isn't there?
That would be odd, but not impossible.
My guess is that your output folder is different than the folder you are looking at.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Comparing versions of a photo - then remove all the old ones

I recently created a new library (because the old one could not open). I re-imported the photos and the end result is that many copies of the same file (or amended files with the same file name) appear in iphoto.
Is there an intelligent way to compare versions of a file and remove all old versions automatically? I don't have a huge library like many of your expert users but I do have a few hundred files. IPhoto does not display the modified date or the file size (why so inflexible?) and so even if I have the patience and the time I cannot do the comparing and removing manually.
    Help! Many thanks.
    MacMini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi W CHIU,
Do you still have the old library that did not open? Was it a version 6 library?
If so, you can start over, create a new library and import again...this time following the next instructions. This should eliminate your duplicates.
    close iPhoto
-drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop (in your case you would do this step, but use your original messed up library to import from)
-launch iPhoto and create a new library
-double click the iPhoto Library folder from the original messed up library.
-the two main folders you will need to import are the Original folder and the Modified folder (only if you want to import the edited images).
-the Originals folder has all your originals photos unedited. the Modified folder has all images that you have edited, rotated, cropped, etc.
-Drag these two folders to the desktop
-If you want to save the edited image, find it in the roll in the Modified folder and drag it into the roll of the same name in the Originals folder. It will replace the originals and now will be the original.
-If you don't care to save any edited images, then don't import the Modified folder into iPhoto or don't bother replacing the edited image with the original image like I just described.
-If you import the Originals folder into iPhoto you will have all your originals in their named rolls.
-If you import the Originals and Modified folders into iPhoto, you will have all of the being in the originals folder in the finder. The roll with the same name as the other will have a _1 appended to it's name (in the finder)
-the roll from the originals will be next to the same roll from the Modified folder within iPhoto. You can then delete any of the images from there if you want.
I know this might sound confusing but it really isn't.
Get back if any of this sounds like something you might want to do.

  • Why can't my old iPod go from Mac to PC ?  Don't the old ones all do that ?

    hi
i know that the new iPods, once formatted for either a Mac or a PC, can only be connected to said OS.
but the old ones, used to be able to go back and forth any time. albeit there might have been 1 or 2 little hitches - but i remember overcoming them rather easily.
so i have a friend of mine who gave me his ipod and i set it all up on my mac. loaded it to the brim.
it is a 20 gig running OS 1.2.1 [and it looks just like my really old did - so i assume it's pretty old]
its model # is A1099 and it was made in 2005.
i am not sure what other way there is to figure out exactly which generation it is -- but maybe i provided enough info here for someone to properly identify it.
so what gives? when i plug it into a PC - it only gives me the option to system restore from scratch and wipe out all my hard work!
can someone gimme some ideas as to why it won't work on both os's?
    thanks!!

iPods that are formatted for Windows can be used on both a Mac and a PC as is, while Mac formatted iPods require third-party software to be used in Windows; iTunes will not update the firmware of an iPod which isn't formatted for that platform outside of a restore. This does not apply to the iPod shuffle, which is always formatted for Windows, and the iPod touch, for which all disk access is handled by iTunes and cannot be used as a storage drive.

Mozilla, like many other software companies, thoroughly test their software before releasing it to the public and I'm sure that no problem you are having is intentional.
I do not work for Mozilla but I do have experience of releasing software for public usage.
Firefox has no way of knowing what other software is already on your computer and with millions of combinations it isn't always possible to test for every scenario.
You can go back to the old version of Firefox but that won't always solve your problem.
The web site below tells you how:

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

how do i get my contacts back? they are backed up by i cloud but when I "MERGE" only the new ones are there and not the old ones

    Hi sfuentes,
You need to check iCloud to see if they are actually there. Go to iCloud.com and sign in and then look at your Contacts there to see if the old ones are still showing on iCloud.
If they are not, then you can either re-enter them while you are on iCloud.com, or you can restore your device from the backup where you saved them:

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

If it's not too late, see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. As long as you have a backup of the device when the device still held your photos you should stand a chance of recovering them using a tool such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

I have just got a new ipod touch but my game centre games are on the old one and i don't want to start them again, can I transfer the stage i'm at or anything?

The progress for some games will transfer since some games synce progress to a cental server. For other games you will have to have the backup of the old iPod.
You can restore from backup or access the backup. See:
How to transfer game saves between iOS devices, without iTunes, and without jailbreaking | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog
If you have acces to the old iPod yu can make a backup by connecting the iPod to the computer and right click on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore from that backup.

Not true. Select "Kind" as a sort category by right clicking the headings
Then click to sort by Kind
If your Import Settings are for Apple Lossless, AIFF, AAC or whatever the majority of your files are, convert MP3s to that file type.
I've presently got 17,000+ files in my library, and they're ALL MP3 or M4B(Audiobooks). If they weren't when I got them, I converted them.  Saves a LOT of hassels with just this type of situation. Besides I have two non Apple MP3 players that WON'T work with other file types besides MP3 so, EVERYTHING I have has to be MP3.
