Why are my artist folder located in my Itunes Media folder, not Music Folder?

I recently got a new computer and moved my itunes library to this new one.  Everything is working fine, but itunes just reorganized my entire library.  As of a couple of days ago all my artist folders were under itunes media\music, but now all the artist folders are just in the itunes\itunes media folder.  The artist folders are mixed among my mobile application and home video and podcast folders.  There is still an itunes media\music folder and there are a couple of artist folders remaining in my music folder but they're all empty.  My preference has 'music\itunes\itunes media' as my Media Folder location under preferences and 'keep media folder organized' and copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library' are both checkmarked. Why did it move all my artist folders out of music and into my root folder and how can I get it to move all the artst folders back to the itunes media\music folder?

nevermind  fixed it File>Library>reorganize

Why are there no sounds located in the Library/Sounds folder in my Home Directory? Since upgrading to Mountain Lion most of my sounds are not working, in my Mail alerts, etc.

Did you put any sound files there? Because if you didn't, that will explain why it's empty.
The ~/Library/Sounds folder is where any sound files that you add go, and they are only available to you as the "logged in" user (if you have other users with their own accounts, they each have their own ~/Library/Sounds folder). Apple doesn't put anything there.
The sounds that come with Mac OS X will either be in the /Library/Sounds folder (which is the shared location for all users) or the /System/Library/Sounds folder (don't mess around with anything in the /System folder!).
But I doubt your problem has anything to do with the sound files. Try deleting your sound preferences file, or even just clicking around in the Sound system preferences until they start working again (seriously - I had one Mac that had some audio problems after upgrading, and just turning things off and on a few times eventually worked. It seemed somehow tied to Dictation, so try twiddling those settings too).

  • HT1473 why does itunes media folder location in windows 8 goes to \username\music\music when pointed to the my music folder

I have recently decided to upgrade to windows 8 and with it clean out all the music in my itunes media collection and start fresh.
Before I start to download my purcharsed iCloud music or import my cds I set my media folder location to be "c:\users\username\my music\"
and the below images show the outcome, which seems like its a bug and it annoys me.
so now i have a folder called music inside the my music folder in my users profile, this seems really stupid i hope its a bug that gets fixed
if i set it as the below then all the music artists folder names appear straight under c:\users\username\
Why does the extra \music\ folder get added ?!?!!??? it just makes it messy.

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
Essentially iTunes wants to put its content into <Media Folder>\<Media Kind>\<Subfolders>. See make a split library portable for reasons why you should stick to the default layout for the iTunes folders (media folder inside main iTunes folder), and Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely for suggestions on how to set out the library for use by both applications.

  • Why are the primary colors located on the vectorscope where they are?

It seems that things would be simpler if one of the primary colors were at the top, bottom, left, or right of the vectorscope. Why is that not the case, and why are the primary colors located on the vectorscope where they are?

Probably really only because of tradition based on the way analog vectorscopes drew the trace.
Notice that red is farther out in an analog system, but smaller allowances in digital systems.

  • HT1364 I have moved my library to an external hard drive and changed the location of the iTunes media folder in Preferences, but every time I close and re-open iTunes, I have to do it all over again.  How can I make the iTunes media folder change permanen

I have moved my library to an external hard drive and changed the location of the iTunes media folder in Preferences, but every time I close and re-open iTunes, I have to do it all over again.  How can I make the iTunes media folder change permanent?  I have an older machine with Windows XP.

I don't believe mounting the hard drive should be necessary, unless you have several external drives and want your computer to recognise them as folders, rather than drives. I've never had to mount a hard drive, ever. If you don't know how to do it, then it shouldn't be necessary now.
    Try this:
Prepare iTunes so that it can see the external drive.
Make a note of which drive-letter the external drive has been allocated. (Look in Windows Exploer)
Look at the file location for a song. Make sure it plays (and therefore that iTunes has found it). Highlight it and select File/Get Info/Summary>Where: and make a note of the drive letter for that song.
Close and shut down the computer.
The next time you turn the computer on again, connect the external drive
Before you start iTunes - check the external drive in Windows Explorer. Is it ready, does it have the same drive-letter that it had last time? Can you go into the drive and see the files on it?
Once you can, start iTunes. (If the drive lettter has changed, you need to work out why before going any further.)
If iTunes fails to find your external drive, you need to check where iTunes is looking for your Library.
Select the same song you checked before (presumably iTunes can no longer find it). Follow the procedure for locating it. You should be able to see where iTunes thinks the file is. It's the drive that counts. Which drive letter is iTunes looking at? Is it the same one that it was previously (which should also be the same one that the drive has now).
What happens, which step do you have problems with?

Have you looked in the Music App on your iPhone? On the iPhone music is played by the Music App not iTunes.

At first I thought it might be because I was using simultaneously my old iPhone 4S so it somehow realized the emails where being pushed to another device and the it marked as read, this has nothing to do since I have deleted the email account from the iPhone 4S

  • How do I restore iTunes media to a new folder?

My iTunes folder was located under C:\Users\UserAccount\Music\iTunes when I backed it up.  Now that I'm restoring it on a fresh Windows 8 installation I have a different user account folder: C:\Users\UserAccount_000\Music\iTunes.  Not sure why the folder didn't just have "UserAccount" but for some reason Windows chose "UseAccount_000".  Anyway, in the past I've been able to simply restore my iTunes folder intact to the same path and everything has worked.  Now I can't do that.  I've tried a few things to work around this:
    1. Restore and edit the "iTunes Music Library.xml" to fix the paths.
    2. Restore most of the files to the "C:\Users\UserAccount_000\Music\iTunes" location but move "iTunes Media" and "iTunes Music" to the "C:\Users\UserAccount\Music\iTunes" folder (that I had to create because "C:\Users\UserAccount" didn't exist).
    3. Do #2 but then try to move everything to the "C:\Users\UserAccount_000\Music\iTunes" by consolidating the music library.
    Why these didn't work:
    1. After making the change and starting up iTunes it seemed to simply ignore the paths that I changed and it went and rewrote the xml file with the old incorrect paths as soon as I exited it!!!! *ARGGGH*
    2. This one actually "works" if you call "works" as being that I've created a purely fictious account folder just to keep iTunes happy.  Not a valid long-term solution, especially given that I now have to backup 2 separate folders.
    3. I was hoping I could trick iTunes into consolidating my music back into its proper location.  That worked, but the side effect was that it also consolidated my MP3 collection that I had ripped from my CD collection.  I don't want that as I had a great folder structure that I wanted to retain.  Not a valid solution- way worse than #2.
So, I don't actually have a way of handling this new Windows set up.  I also don't want to go down the road of trying to get Windows to change my account path.  To me iTunes should be able to handle restoration to a different user account folder.
This is incredibly frustrating- I've wasted many hours on this already and Apple support wants to charge me to get their help which under the circumstances seems completely unreasonable.
I'm hoping there's a way to get #1 to work- can I force iTunes to rebuild its database entries from the xml file instead of retrieving them from the other database files it has?
    Thanks!

One thing that I find odd is that iTunes used to rebuild the .itl file when you deleted it.  It seems as if the newer iTunes somehow broke this old capability.  If you delete the .itl file it can't rebuild it- it simple treats this as if this is a fresh installation and completely ignores the fact that the .xml file has all the data in it.  I think Apple needs to bring back this old "feature".  Of course, the negative with that was that you lost all of the "Date Added" info along with some other stuff but at least it still kept the favorites info etc. (and I think maybe even the path although I don't believe I ever tried that because my account path has never changed until now).
One side note: I can't find where the iTunes Windows SDK is.  I was hoping to try to use that to access the .itl "database" and write a utility to fix this situation.  Seems like this has moved from its original location...
