Why are my backups taking up space on my HD and not my time capsule?
I've been experiencing sluggish performance on my late 2012 Macbook pro. I have a time capsule (most recent model) and use that for backup. When I went to system information about my storage, it says that there is right around 200 GB of backups on my hard drive itself, why is this?
Most likely due to Time Machine snapshots made for each hour your computer is not connected to the backup drive. To prevent these in the future be sure to turn off Time Machine when you aren't connected to your backup drive.
These snapshots take up shadow space meaning if the system needs space and there isn't enough, then it will remove the number of snapshots needed to make space. So the space is not in technical use on the drive. But if you want all the space returned and turn off snapshots, then see:
Time Machine Snapshots
Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed. Press RETURN again.
To turn them ON: sudo tmutil enablelocal
To turn them OFF: sudo tmutil disablelocal
Note that turning them OFF will also delete all existing snapshots.

Why are my photos taking up 6.2GB when I do not have that many pictures in my photos?
I'm trying to reduce my used storage. When I checked my storage it said that I had used 6.3GB in photos. I was very confused. So I clicked on it and it said that 6.2GB are being used by your photo library. Now I only have about 100 pictures and videos all together so I do not know what happen. Why are my apps taking up more space than what the appstore says they will? Like were talking a half a GB more than what it should.
For example the app Modern Combat 4 says it should only be 1.58 GB on the appstore but when i go into settings>general>usage it says it takes up 2.0 GB.
Ive tried deleting the apps and then reinstalling them but they still take up so much more space.
This happens for multiple apps of mine. Some I have never even opened before.
I have an ipod touch (4th Gen)(32GB).
I link to a mac computer.
I have IOS version 6.1.3
I noticed this a long time ago but didnt need the space, Now i need the space!!
Please help!!Because you see the file size of the compuressed file. The file gets expanded when installed and that takes up more space. Also, data is kept in the app.

The computer is not recognising the TC is connected. ML will revert to local disk when TC or other network destination is disconnected. The fix is usually just to reboot the TC so TM can recognise it.

I have just upgraded to Yosemite and now my Time Capsule says it does not have enough space to complete backup, yet it has 500 GB free space?
I am using the latest mac book pro and hacvent added anything aside from the upgraded iOS so not sure why the Time Capsule is saying that there is not enough space.
How can i fix this problem?Time Machine has to completely index all of the old backups that are already on the Time Capsule before you can run a new backup successfully.
That process is going to take a long time......probably 6-10 hours or more if your Mac is connected to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
If the Mac connects using wireless, it may take a day or two for the process to complete depending on the speed of your connection and the amount of data that you already have on the Time Capsule.
Wait a day or two for the indexing process to complete and then try to run a new backup again. -

Ok, What is all this "other" taking up space on my iphone and how do I get rid of it? It's taking up almost half the space on my phone.
"Other" includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, app data, Safari cache, cookies and bookmarks, stored passwords, search index, home screen organization, wi-fi network data, etc. It should normally be about 1 GB. Yours in an indication there may be corrupt data on your phone.
Unfortunately the best solution to fix your issue is a restore. Back up your phone, then restore it using iTunes. Follow this guide:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414. -

I just started using my iphone 5s. I have a problem with new incoming emails from my POP account. Why are they marked as read automatically even though I have not even opened them yet.
