Why are my clips red?

When I upload a clip of something I recorded from my camera I get a red screen. I can hear the sounds from the clip but I can't see anything I recorded. This isn't making any sense to me. I've read through most of the help section and I've tried anything I can think of but I just can't see anything when I try to view it. I took a picture of it so you all can see what I'm talking about. This has been happening to every single video clip I have tried to upload and this is just getting really ridiculous. What do I do? =/
Any help would be really appreciated!

  • Why are my clip marker comments disappearing?

I'm coming from Final Cut Pro, so part of my problem might be my workflow, but: Why are my clip marker comments disappearing? I log a lot of interviews and usually log the subject's responses in clip markers, but my comments are disappearing the second I select a different clip! Any reason why this might be? They stick around when I do sequence comments, but they disappear when I add comments to my clip markers when viewing in the source window. Thanks!

Jim, that's encouraging to hear. Unfortunately, I'm trying to run it on a mac (Lion). Are you finding that most complaints are coming from people running it on macs?
Believe me, I want to get behing Adobe, but I've restarted more than one project in Avid after finding Premiere super glitchy and inconsistent in it's behaviour.

  • Why are compound clips not showing as such in FCPX any more?

I opened a project in FCPX which has been languishing for a while. It consists if a number of compound clips. However these are not being treated as such by the application anymore. They appear as regular clips, and I have to right click on them and select "open in timeline" to get them to show their contents. When I go back out of the clip! they retain their regular clip appearance.
How can I get proper compound clip behaviour from them?

    Tom -
TBH, I really can not remember how I made them - I started this some time ago, and I decided I really should get back to it an finish it. I started this sometime late 2011/early 2012, so the compound clips would have been made using whaever option was available at the time.
So, this is what I see in my timeline. The clip “Moscow” is a compound clip.
When I right-click on it, I see this:
Selecting Open in timeline gets me into the compund clip:
A couple of the clips in there are are compund clips too - but you won’t know it from looking at the interface. This seems to be the only project I have that is affected like this.

  • Why are subsequent clips either above or below the main clip and blurred?

I am new to iMovie 10.
I have imported three clips into iMovie.  I selected one and dragged it into the timeline area.  I selected the second and dragged it into the timeline area that followed the first clip.  Now, when I select the third and drag it into the timeline area, for some reason it rests above the first and second clips and no matter how I position it, I can't get it to be inline.  It's either above or below.  Also, it doesn't reveal the entire third clip.  It just blurs it at the bottom and I can't see the waveform.  Why is this and how do I place my clip all in one line?

    Can anyone help on this?

  • Why are video clips glitchy in iMovie?

    Hi!
I have a bunch of 1080p clips that have come off of a Panasonic GF3 digital camera. These were in .MTS format, but iMovie won't touch those unless they came straight off the camera (and they came off it a while ago). Instead, I used avconv (ffmpeg) to losslessly convert the MTS files to MP4. The new MP4 files play flawlessly on Mac (Quicktime), Windows and Linux.
However when I import them into iMovie, it completely messes them up. Any areas of the image that move get 'torn' and then 'repainted' one second later (on each keyframe). I'd put this down to the iMovie preview, but after rendering the completed iMovie project out I get exactly the same problem.
Does anyone know what the problem is or how I can fix this? I have basically finished my project now - only to find that the preview errors are permanent!
I have iMovie 10.0.5, and MacOS 10.9.5. I can provide example videos that exhibit the tearing if needed, as well as the final result of iMovie's rendering.
    thanks,
    - Gordon

    Hello,
It's a long story, for the past year I've been trying to make a few simple slideshows from iPHOTO. Yes, it is suppose to be this simple few step process to send photos over to iDVD but it never works for me. In the beginning I was on the phone with the Apple help line and they would give me instruction. When one set of instructions did not work, the Apple help line person would give me different instructions. In the end the DVD slideshow was made/burned.
I've taken a few trips and I'm back to trying to make a DVD-R slideshow. I discovered through this discussion thread (see my question Why can't I make an IDVD
Posted: Jan 14, 2007 1:17 PM) that I need to go into Customize/Media/iMOVIE in iDVD and select the last slideshow that I imported and the process worked. Well I discovered that my fifty plus slideshows are sitting in iMOVIE. Most of the slideshows are repeats and I want to delete all of these bad slideshows and start fresh.
“Did you happen to use your digital still camera in movie mode?” At one point I downloaded a movie off of my digital camera into iPHOTO.
“Is it possible you are looking at the QT player window and not iMOVIE? No, when I open iMOVIE and select “Open an existing project” all of my imported slideshows from iPHOTO to iDVD are sitting in iMOVIE.
Can I delete all of these bad slideshows and start fresh? I’m having to come up with new slideshow names every time the slideshow DVD-R burning process does not work.
It takes alot of time to sit and wait for the Apple help line people. I actually bought a telephone headset because of this problem. I really just want to figure out how to do this the right way and stop wasting so much time.
Thanks for your time and interest!

  • Why are my clips shaking after slow motion?

I captured clips from my Canon 7d and converted the clip through mpeg stream clip, pro res, 60 frames, full HD. When I imported it into FCP and set the speed to 50% (or any speed, except normal) the top of the clip shakes the entire time, before I made the clip in slow motion there was no shake.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Did you shoot 720p 60? That is the only format that shoots 60fps.
Conform with CINEMA TOOLS. doing a speed change in FCP doesn't do it right.

  • Why are my "Clip, Fade to" grayed out?

I'm new to iMovie (from Windows Movie Maker) and just playing around.  I've created a project and I'm trying to use the "Fade to" options.  But when I choose "Clip, Fade to" the options are grayed out.

In the project, click then drag across the clip thumbnails so that a section is highlighted with a yellow border. You can drag the handles in or out either side of the highlighted area in order to shorten or lengthen the selection. Now when you go to the menu item "Clip>Fade to" the selections for Black & White, Sepia and Dream will be available. Click on your preferred option to apply the effect.
The idea behind the "Fade to" is to create a gradual change within the clip from colour to black & white, sepia or dream. If you do this at the end of a clip, so that, say, the last 4 seconds are highlighted, the clip will gradually dissolve to the selected effect and finish on that effect. Or, you can create the effect within the clip so that it fades to the effect, then back to the original colour, based on where you've placed the highlighted area within the clip.
When you apply the effect, iMovie will split the clip at the appropriate points, then will automatically place a dissolve between each split segment.
NOTE: You can adjust the duration of the dissolve (fade) by double-clicking on the transition and adjusting the time in the Inspector.
    John
PS. Highlighting a portion at the very beginning of a clip then applying the effect will cause the selection to change from the effect to the original colour. That is, you can fade up from black & white, or sepia or dream to the original colour.

  • Why are some clips missing after migrating to my new Mac?

My old Macbook Pro died so I got a new one and have migrated my data to the new one from a Time Machine backup. However, after doing this iMovie is telling me a lot of clips are missing. Many of them are still in tact, but in a lot of cases I see a message like: Missing File "clip-2012-09-13 07;52;06 (id)" is missing. Try reimporting the original source media. I'm using iMovie 10.0.6 and Yosemite (on both the old and new Mac).
Can anybody tell me how I can fix this?
    Thanks

If it matters, I have a Canon camcorder and imported the clips using a firewire cable. The external drive is connected via a second firewire cord to the other firewire port.

  • Why are my clip markers not saved?

I'm using PE 9.  My clip markers are not getting saved.
    1)  Open a blank test project.
    2)  Select Organize \ Media.
    3)  Double-click one of the clips, and the preview window opens with the clip.
    4)  I move the Current-time Indicator to the point I want a clip marker.
    5)  Click (menu) Clip \ Set Clip Marker \ Next Available Numbered.
    6)  When I move the Current-time Indicator away from that location I can see the marker is visibly there.
    7)  I also set In and Out markers.
My understand (from what little documentation exists) is that that is enough to persist clip markers on that clip, for all future projects that include that clip.  However, as soon as I close that clip, all markers are lost forever.  I can reopen it (from organize \ media) and see no markers.  I can also add it to a timeline, and still there are no markers.  The only way I can get markers to save is to add the clip to a timeline, place markers in the timeline, and save the project.  This is not supposed to be necessary according to the docs.
As far as I can tell there is no "save" action needed to persist markers, and saving the project seems inappropriate, but I save it anyway out of desperate frustration.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Neale, thank you again.
Here's one of many references that distinguishes between source clip-marks and instance clip-marks specifically for PE9 (also referenced in many other versions of PE): http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremiereElements/9.0/Using/WSC22A9AEC-AB3F-4fbc-9F00-F0CBFC211 4CF.html
The image below is of my entire desktop with some scribble added.  You can see 3 source clip marks on the preview window (NOT the project timelene which has many more).  No matter what I do, those 3 clipmarks will be lost the moment I close the preview window.

  • Why are video clips always stalling?

HTML5?  Flash?  I never had this problem before.  Could it be that last upgrade?, I'm running OS X 10.6.8 with 2GB SDRAM, 2 GHz Duo processor.
When prompted to star it runs a few moments then stalls with the pause prompt still displayed. A couple clicks gets it to start again then it stops on it's own, or may do so with a series of jerky starts and stops.
Ya, I'd love to get that new MacBook with the Retina screen and current OS.  I am at the top of the bunch ( grey Leopard I think ) .  Is it just a problem that only money can solve?
Phil ... yep, lost in the clouds.

    Hi Russ,
Now you’ll know how really dumb I am!  I have the libraries and media stored on 3 external drives, although FCP app lives on the hard drive.  I accessed the project from one of the drives.  Then also tried accessing it from the program on the HD.  The media is AVCHD from a Panasonic AG/AC 160 camera, shot at 60 fps.  I deleted the files, but haven’t had a chance yet to re-import as both opt. and proxy.  Other clips, imported before upgrade, are fine.
I have an iMac mid 2011;  Processor 2.5 GHz, Intel Core i5.  Two of the drives are 1 tb and the 3rd is 4Tb
    thanks,

  • Why are my clips black after render?

I new to am using FCE 4.0.1 and have used an earlier version (FCE 1.??) in the past so I know how to do what I'm doing. But, what is so frustrating is that I've brought some .jpg images into the timeline, I turned on viewing of the levels line as I like to use it, I added a little motion then a cross-dissolve between some clips. After rendering, the images are now black. At the cross dissolve, however I can see the image just for a moment, then black again. If I take the level line and bring it down then up again, I can then see the picture. But, of course, this makes it not being rendered. As soon as I render it again, I have the same issue. This is whether I have it on Safe RT or Unlimited RT.
I'm stumped and really don't have to resort to imovie to make this project.
    Thanks for your help.
    Cayleen

Trashing preferences and the user data folder did not work.
Let me say, this is the first time using FCE since installing it on my computer. Prior to this, I had an old imac running 10.2.8 and I was using FCE 1.??. Before purchasing the upgrade from apple, I called to verify that an upgrade would work...needing to install FCE 1 on this computer for the first time and then installing FCE 4. I was told it would work by their tech department. I was on the phone when he "tried it out" on his end.
I could try to uninstall and do a reinstall, but, my question is would this even be necessary if I've never even used the program once before now? Do you suppose there might be an issue with the upgrade from 1 to 4? So bummed and would like to figure this out.
Thanks for your help and opinions.

  • Why are my clips gray and useless?

I recently imported a whole bunch of large clips into iMovie for a school project (the process took about 2 days). All of them except one are turning up grey. When I try to add them to my movie iMovie won't let me drag them there. How can I fix this? I need urgent help.

In addition to the "clip" dropdown, you can activate / de-activate "solo" on your tool bar:

  • Why are the colors (red mostly) in my Press Quality PDF file darker than Original AI file?

    Hi,
I am new to CS5 and have been doing a lot of researching and testing saving AI CS5 files in "Press Quality" PDF format.  When I preview the PDF files in MAC's Preview application (will get Acrobat Reader as well) everything looks nice and crisp, but the colors are a bit on the dark side compared to my original AI files, namely the burgundy.  Needless to say, I am only using CMYK and the resolution has been set to High.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi again John,
Now I am sitting in front of the right computer and I just checked the CMYK profile in AI and it says: North America Prepress 2.  I found the following tutorial on the internet and this guy says that it is best to use a CMYK profile called BEST WORKFLOW which is supposed to accurately display colors across all platforms.  In the tutorial, he also added that if you do not see this profile listed then you should Load (directly from the CMYK profile window) it from your computer.  However, I was unable to locate this profile on my MAC and since this tutorial is based on AI CS2, I am unsure if I can use it.

Which CMYK profile would you recommend that I use?
