My daughter pressed a series of keys and now my desktop icons are WAY magnified?

If that doesn't work, try right clicking (control + click) on an app icon, then press Show View Options. Then use the slider at the top to adjust the icon size. The standard size is 64x64.

Yes I have tried a restart, a shut down and restart, a coling off period for 5 minutes anda restart, an examination of view options and I still get nothing, no destop folders icons, just the title of the folder. Could you please try the following:-
Reboot in safe mode by pressing the SHIFT key (it takes a while) so the OS clears the font cache.
Reboot then in normal mode and the fonts should show properly.

You really will need to give some information before anyone can help. Is this in the Finder? Or some application? What on earth does "scrambled" mean?

As you can see, the original post, almost a year old already, received no replies. That is undoubtedly due to the total lack of details and the cryptic nature of the message.
I cannot imagine what this is all about. What presets? Where do you see this icon? In the application itself or when looking at the preset folder in your OS navigator (Apple's Finder, Win Explorer)? What does it look like, a padlock or a circle with a diagonal through it?
Please provide both a screen shot of the issue and some sensible information. We don't even know what your platform is Mac or windows.

There are no desktop icons on my MacBook.

I opened it up to find no icons whatsoever on my desktop. Everything is there...there are just ZERO icons. Does anyone know what might have happened?

No, that is not helping. It seems that all of my icons have disappeared completely. One minute they were there, now they are gone. All of the files are still in my computer and I can access them other ways, but nothing at all is on my desktop and I cannot place anything or drag and drop anything onto the desktop at all. Maybe this information will help in the diagnosis?

An add-on can put its icon on the bar automatically if it likes, but some add-ons do one of the following:
* Add an item to the Tools menu
* Add an item to the right-click menu (depending on the context)
* Put a button in the button palette so you can add it to a toolbar if you like (''to call up the button palette, use'' View > Toolbars > Customize ''or right-click a blank area after the address box on the Navigation Toolbar and choose Customize from the pop-up menu'')
Also, you might want to double-check that the add-on is enabled.
Tools > Add-ons > Extensions
If you have the orange Firefox button, it's Firefox > Add-ons > Extensions
Does that help? (If you have problems with a particular extension, you could mention which one it is for more specific comments.)

Where are my desktop icons going?

Everyone once in a while, usually after long battery use, my desktop icons disappear. The only way to get them back is to restart. Anyone experience this? I'm running 10.6.2 with all updates.

I get that sometimes when moving moving my MacBook from work (where I use an external display in addition to the built-in display) to home (built-in display only). I think Finder misses the display change event, and still thinks that I'm using both displays.
Relaunching Finder fixes it. Option-Control-Click on Finder in the Dock, and select Relaunch. Not perfect, but not as big as restarting the OS.

Why are some app icons hi-def in the App Store, then pixelated when downloaded? (Even after uninstall/reinstall)? Any way to fix this?

Just as an example, TSN. The icon always appears as hi-def/Retina display in the app store if you search for it or it asks you to update, then when it updates it goes back to being pixelated. I can see if it is an app-specific issue but there are other apps like Bank of America which do the same thing. I don't think it's because they haven't updated the icon because they have, it appears perfect when viewed in the App Store. Uninstall/reinstall did not fix this. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! It may sound minor, but it makes all the difference visually!

How pixelated could the app look like? The only reason why the app icon could look pixelated, is if you are using the iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4th generation. They obviously have an upscaled resolution, so the apps could not have been upscaled when downloading... I am not sure about this issue...

Why are my desktop apps different versions?

I have chatted and now I've been on hold with Adobe over an hour about this issue:
I have a desktop and a laptop. The Creative Cloud app is on both machines. The desktop has version number 1.7.1.418 and the laptop has version 1.7.2.419.
I have signed out and signed back in, etc. and there is no change. I've also checked...they are the same account and password.
Also, the data shown on the app is incorrect. It shows my last updates were around 100 days ago and that's just not true! I get updates when they come out....including the ones from earlier this month (I believe).
Is there a way to sync my two apps so that they are the same version? And can I get the stats on the apps to reflect accurate update info.?

Why are Photoshop 7 Icons/previews incomplete in Tiger sometimes?

Just upgraded to a super whizzy G5 (Mac user of 15 years)....Tiger is behaving OK most of the time. Problem is, Photoshop icons are incomplete in column view - they often only show one layer of a file, not the composite pic. Files are saved in Photoshop 7 in Classic (so many useful legacy plug-ins with no OSX versions!), with save all (Mac & Windows) thumbnails checked in file saving prefs.
The thing is, this only occurs sporadically - sometimes the previews are complete, sometimes they are not...any clues?

I've mentioned this to Apple a couple of times both here in the Lounge via the moderators, and in the public OS X feedback page.
All previews worked just fine under Panther. But they definitely changed something in Tiger with QuickTime or something that effects previews in the Open dialogue box. If you have a bunch of Photoshop .eps files among a few TIFFs for instance, all of the .eps files will display just fine until you display a TIFF. Then the .eps files will only show a small display of the b&w 4 language message about the file being an .eps. Quiting out of the Open box and reopening it is the only way to continue. But the same thing will happen every time you go from an .eps to another format. Doesn't matter if you're in Photoshop looking at raster .eps images, or Freehand or Illustrator viewing vector .eps files in the Open dialogue. Or any other app that can view .eps icons. Going from an .eps to something else, or from another format to .eps always kills the .eps view icons.
Bugs me that this still hasn't been fixed. I'm going to copy this to Feedback again.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.
* Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Why are my header icons and toolbar buttons grayed out?

I purchased a used Macbook Pro from ebay. Appeared to be in good working order when I first started working with it, but I have updated from OS X 10.9.2 to 10.9.5 and downloaded Open Office program, set up my mail and went through the system preferences and personalized it. Also ran disk utilities. Then, this AM, when I restarted, the header icons on the right side are grayed out except for the battery %, the date and time and notifications. Also, in mail and safari, the toolbar buttons are blank (forward, back, print, mail, bookmarks, autofil, history and downloads). What happened? I went to the disk utility from the recovery partition (repaired disk and disk permissions). I also reset parameters. Don't know what to do next. Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but I am assuming it is software (OS X) related at this point. Please help.
