Why are my digital raw files changing color when imported in photoshop and light room?

when I open my raw files in photoshop, the whites get blown out and the images have green/ yellow tint. I've tried using color sync utilities to correct the issue, but I keep getting this message when I try to repair profiles:

  • Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
    I have the following problem:
When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
    ·Photoshop CS3
    ·InDesign CS3
·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
    ·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
    ·Printer profile: ISO Coated
How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
    Thanks a lot!

RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • When is my RAW file changed? Upon import? Upon viewing? Only after edit list started?

    All:
I now have a "second copy" made in a separate hard drive when I import files from my camera cards. I want an untouched file for possible comparative "developing" or rendering in DxO or PhotoNinja. Might convert everything to DNG someday.
Asking LR to do this at the top of the Import pane is I assume, creates a copy *and* makes NO changes to the RAW data.
OTOH, Lightroom will offer me the image in Camera Raw to view, create, and interpret my edit/develop decisions. But I have been thinking about this and need to ask all of you: Is that CR2 file in my dated Lightroom database folders a changed file in any way from the RAW file while it was still on the card? The decision to hold edit data in sidecar files plays a part in this, right?  External sidecar files means even after edits I can copy the CR2 file and use it in other [RAW]converter's software?
    jonathan7007

Being a "non-destructive editor", Lightroom does not (cannot) change your CR2 files....with one exception, which is when/if you choose to edit the capture time of an image, in which case the changed date is written back into the file header's EXIF field. But apart from that, it is never ever changed.....all edits are stored primarily in the catalog's database, and optionally you can have them written into XMP sidecars. Having the XMP sidecar would allow you to open the raw file in another XMP-capable Adobe program, outside Lightroom, and see the edits applied. Not sure if other non-Adobe raw converters would be able to interpret all of that XMP info.
For non-proprietary raw files (e.g. DNG, Tiff), you can also choose to save the XMP data but in this case it would be written directly into the files header, not into sidecar files. The underlying image data is still, however, unchanged.

  • Why are some of my files now missing when moving from pc to mac when using an external drive

I use an external drive for all my files.  I moved to a Mac Mini last week.  Now I can not view a majority of my backed up files on My Book external drive.
    Any ideas????  Thanks in advance,

See Make a split library portable. A portable library can be stored entirely on an external drive and moved between Mac and Windows computers. iTunes takes a little longer to open the library the first time after each switch. If your drive is currently formatted to NTFS then you will need an additional driver to enable OS X to write to the drive, or simply clone the library to an HFS+ drive.

  • Why are my all of my images underexposed when importing into Lightroom 5?

Shooting with Canon Mark iii.  Histogram shows good exposures.

I just realized it is a camera issue - thank you.

  • I want to run Photoshop and Light room on my mac, but I'm worried that osx only running eight bits of color will lead to lower quality picture results. Should I stick with Windows?

The headline sums it up. Will running the programs in Windows result in better pictures? Do professionals do touch ups on Mac? Thanks for your responses! I'm new to this.

"Deep colour" - meaning a 10bit colour driven display - can only be achieved in hardware with a screen and a graphics card that support both. The average Windows system does not support this - few do. Only Windows workstation level graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia support this option. These are generally more expensive than consumer cards of the same caliber.
Many screens with so-called 10bit support often fake the extra colours by introducing dithering - true 10bit displays are only manufactured by companies such as Eizo - and they are expensive: prices range to around almost $2000 for a 24" 10-bit screen from Eizo. You also need a special HDMI cable, I believe.
Also, the software must support a 10bit workflow. These are far and between. I believe even Lightroom still does not support this - Photoshop does from version CS5 and up.
If you have a hard time understanding all this: no worries. The reason why you are confused and worried is because you lack the know-how, and, subsequently, reading all that "10bit colour is unsupported on Macs" made you anxious.
In reality, while Windows does support this (and Macs do not), almost no-one uses it currently (beyond high-end film/FX work, cad/cam, and a couple of high end Photographers). Any generic consumer and even most workstation level Windows machines will not support it unless all the hardware and software is properly set up. And it is very costly. Colour management becomes even more intricate with 10bit displays.
In a nutshell: much ado about nothing. A Mac is great for design work, as are well equipped Windows machines. By far the majority of professionals in Photography, Graphic design, Video and Effects editing, and so on, currently work without 10bit hardware, and produce outstanding work.
Unless you are spending at least around $2000 on screen hardware, and limit yourself to a very small group of applications that also cost an arm and a leg, you are not going to be able to use 10bit on Windows either.
You can forget what you have read - it is of no consequence to you. (or if you are interested, learn the technical backgrounds.)  Perhaps in 10~20 years the situation will have changed.

  • Why is there an 'Error: No Data' sign when importing in Log and Transfer?

    Hello,
I am trying to import clips from my Panasonic HDC-SD100 camcorder into Final Cut Express 4. I am using the Log and Transfer window and am able to import most of my clips. However, every time I import there are a handful of clips that are left idle and an 'Error: No Data' sign appears next to them. They have not been imported to the Scratch Disk, and yet there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them because they playback on the viewing screen in the Log and Transfer window. Can anyone help me to determine what is wrong?
    Many thanks.

Some of the descriptions you are using are kind of confusing.
"first 2 controls of each DO line(s)"
"button 1 of DO lines 1 and DO lines 2"
"control 2 of DO lines 1 and DO lines 2"
What is the difference between "button 1" and "control 2".  I am going to assume you mean the same thing when you say "button" vs. "control" but just decided to change terminology in mid-sentence
You need to write out a Truth table to describe what you need done.  The way you have the description written, you are already using the word "OR" to describe the different situations.  That is going to be a key part of your program.
    This shows:
    (DOlines button1 AND button2)  OR
    (DOlines2 button1  AND button2) OR
    (DOlines button1 AND DO lines2 button1)  OR
    (DOlines button2 AND DO lines2 button2)

  • Completed QT movie changes format when imported into iDVD and DVD Studio

I made a few movies and I simply want them on a DVD. I convert them into QT movies and everything looks great. I filmed both movie using my Canon Vixia M30 in 60i and maximum quality. When I move the files into iDVD, it squishes the actual movie into 4:3 even though the original QT movie is 16:9 and iDVD is set up for 16:9 and the quality is horrible. I check the "Project Info" and my 3.1GB file has shrunk down to a 376MB file. I tried to put the file into DVD Studio and the same thing happened. This has happened with the last two movies I made. I'm really getting frustrated. What am I doing wrong? Help!!

A DVD uses the highly compressed MPEG2 codec. So it is impossible to have it look exactly the same.
Nothing you can do about that, the DVD video specification is strictly set out.
First of all, export from FCP. Self contained with Current Settings (same as the Timeline).
Bring that file into Compressor and apply one of the time based DVD presets that the running time of your video fits into -for example: *DVD 90 mins Best Quality 16:9*. Import the resulting MPEG2 and AC3 files into DVD Studio Pro. You must also tell DVD SP that your film is 16:9.

  • PS file in illustrator changes color when I move it??

When I open a ps file in illustrator some objects change color when I move them and are displayed correctly in preview and Photoshop, why and how do I fix this?
Also the object seems to be duplicated. It should have the same and only the colors of the scale bar. In another file the image part is correct and the scale bar is incorrect.
    Should look like this:

It is an odd problem. The "good" screen shot is from opening the PS file in mac's preview. As it is, I use several tools in illustrator to get the final image where I need it to be; several layers and what not. I have tired 5, 5.1, and 6 with the same problem. Again I have a different problem when I use a different figure:
As you can see just the opposite problem is the case. The map part is good while the color scale if off. Both parts are made in the same way and more or less in the same sequence, I don't think it is purely a problem at birth and other software can "see" it correctly, so I don't think it is a hardware problem.

  • Why are 'saved as' .psd files so much bigger than original raw nef files?

I was under the impression that original raw files were the biggest possible. I appear to be very wrong. Why are 'saved as' .psd files so much bigger than original raw nef files?
I'm beginning to think that saving them as psd is a bad idea.
Yes, though I've heard all the arguments of keepng the original raw files (For ex. Did you throw away the negatives when you were using film) I se eno purpose in keeping them. Once I've made the initial adjustments--cropping, color correction etc. I don't feel a need to ever go back and never do. Most of my work is done in Photoshop and I like it that way--but suddenly finding myself with such huge files doesn't appeal to me at all--and other formats like tif...well never mind for now.

Good point made c.pfaffenbichler however, my thinking is this--there is time spent on the raw file and then there is much more time spent on (usually a psd) the file once in Photoshop. For me to then go back to the orignal raw file, after having worked on it on PS would mean getting rid of all the work (larger amount of work, time wise and artistic wise) done on PS which seems pointless. Although the psd file does show your layers and stuff it only shows the end results of that layer. It does not show from where to where you pointed your brush, from what point to what point you changed the color or part of an image etc. etc.Anyhow I understand why most people keep their raw files, but this is the main reason why I do not. It would mean hours of work on an image you already worked on (and usually were satisfied with) to perhaps make some minor alteration. Also please note that though I was noce a pro photog, no I do it mostly for fun. Getting the exact red in my Coca Cola can has never been of importance. On the other hand, if there were a way of working on a raw file within Photoshop and keep it (save it as) a raw file equivalent, then I would absolutely do so.

  • Tiff files are recognized as raw files

A large number of my tiff files are being recognized by Photoshop and Lightroom as raw files. They open in Camera Raw with +50 brightness and +25 contrast.
It has occurred in tiff files that I made by 1) scanning film 2) taken with Canon 10D 3) taken with Canon 20D 4) taken with Canon 5D.
All I do is make a few adjustments in curves and hue/sat. Then I save as tiff. Everything seems fine... until all of sudden, a few minutes later, the thumbnail changes on it's own and suddenly turns very bright. Then when I click on the tiff, it opens in Camera Raw with the added brightness and contrast.
Does anybody know why this is happening and how I can prevent it? I thought it might be a bug my CS3 program but I just upgraded to CS4 and it's still happening.
    Thank you.

Thanks again. Yes, these tiff files have an adjustment icon over the thumbnails in Bridge. I'm aware of the fact that I can clear the settings with edit>develop settings>clear settings. But I want to stop this from happening in the first place. I don't know how they are getting ACR adjustments since I didn't even open some of these files with ACR. Some of the these files came straight from the film scanner. I just scanned, saved as tiff...then all of a sudden they have ACR settings. I don't know why.
With my raw files...all I do is open the file in Photoshop, make a few adjustments, then save as tiff. All of a sudden, the images turn SUPER BRIGHT with the +50 brightness and +25 contrast.
I would like to email a few of these corrupted files to somebody who works for Adobe so they can look at them and help me figure this out. Do you know how I can do that?

  • Can anyone tell me why a picture would change color when I try to download/upload it?  It is the exact same picture- chosen the same way and when it goes to any other program it changes the color (I've tried canvas on demand and mpixpro.  I've also tried

Can anyone tell me why this picture changes color when I try to download/upload it?  It is the exact same picture I have taken from the same location.  The image on the left is via preview and the image on the right is what is shows like when I try to download it.  I have emailed it to myself and it shows fine on the computer and in CS4, but when I look at the download via my phone or on another computer it shows the wonky color on the right.  I have checked the color space shows RGB/8 bit.  Any ideas why or how to fix it?  It isn't with any one specific session.... and I've tried it on both my desktop and my laptop- saved image to an external hard drive and to drop box.  I've tried sending the image to canvas on demand, my email, mpxipro, POST editing- all the same result.  Please HELP!!  What am I doing wrong?

Most of the time you see something like that. The image in question has a color profile other then sRGB. Some image viewers/displayers are color managed and others are not.  So the image do not look the same in all of the applications you use. So colors seem to change.
Try converting it to sRGB color and see if then looks the same all around. Also I think PC and Mac displays are set to different gamma something like 1.8 and 2.2
Though I'm colorblind I even see color variations.

  • Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?

Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?  I updated last night and ever since, these files download as soon as I launch Safari.

I've gotten these from multiple web sites, including Drudge and National Journal.
It is my opinion that this behavior is a side effect of the latest Java update. Until this latest update, Apple has maintained its own version of Java. The latest update is Oracle Java.
Apple's note on the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 11 includes this:
On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
Looking at the innards of one file downloaded, it appears to be a JavaScript beacon from advertising.com for rubiconproject.com. These files are used to track web browsing activity. I suspect that this Java changed the way the beacon is served and Safari.

  • Raw file changed. How come?

I opened a raw file in CS4 Bridge, made some adjustments and opened it in PS.  After I saved the file to my desktop I discovered that the changes I made are now reflected in the original raw file.  I thought raw files are not chageable.
I am sure there is a way to get back to the original, but how?
    Thank you in advance, Peter

" I thought raw files are not chageable."
Edits in Camera Raw are none destructive. That is, the actual image pixels are not changed.
What Camera Raw does do -- when you make changes to an image in Camera Raw -- is to save those changes are metadata.
You can remove the camera raw's metadata from an image and thereby "undo" your Camera Raw editing.
In Bridge, you can also view the Camera Raw metadata for an image, which describes the changes you have made to the image in Camera Raw.
