Why are my finished DVDs pausing during playback?

I kind of fell into producing a Dance Recital DVD when my videographer failed to show. I recorded all footage first then started to play with Pr CS3. I mixed all dances (recorded on 2 cams) seperately and exported them from Pr as AVIs. I ended up with 39 seperate movie files which I then manually added to an En CS4 project on a seperate computer. I added all 39 files as assets into 1 timeline and used the "export to chapter list" feature to make 40 seperate chapters (39 dances + a full show chapter). I kept the menus as simple as possable with no motion or video. Due to the total length of the video 2:14:07 I went with DL DVDs. When I use the preview function everthing looks good, but when I burn it to DVD both the audio and video hang or pause for approximatly 1-2 seconds in 5 seperate dances. This happens when I play the full show, and when I select the chapters individually. I have tried to change some of the settings and re-burn the DVD but I get the pauses in the same locations for the same chapters. I checked the AVI files and they play without the pauses.
Reading through the fourms I don't really know if its a transcoding problem, a layer-split issue with the duel layer disc, a weak computer, or if Adobe just doesn't like me. It seems like I've been fighting this entire project begining with CS3 not liking the JVC MOD format, to burning the master discs for replication. Can someone point me in the right direction as to troubleshooting my pausing issue?
Since I will be doing another show for X-Mas If anyone has suggestions as far as workflow improvements, I would really appreciate a heads-up in that area too.

Could be lots of things.
used the "export to chapter list" feature to make 40 seperate chapters (39 dances + a full show chapter).
Are you referring to "Create Chapter Index"?
I would create a new project using just one avi that had problems, and see if the problem shows up there.

SlideShow in iDVD has a 99 photo limit - more than this and all sorts of error occures.
One can have more than one SlideShow on a DVD = X times 99 photos.
or assemble SlideShows in a movie editor (no limit at least not under 650 photos)
(only limit is Time in iDVD (movie time + MENU time --- 60 min or 120 min on SL-DVD and about twice on DL.-DVD )
I use
• iMovie up to HD6 - or -
• FinalCut any version
As they will give a better quality than iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 can do.

Camcorder pauses during playback.

Both my canon video camcorders ( XH G1 and XL H1 ) pauses during playback or capture. Both are a few years old. The tapes I am using are new professtional Quality. Any Ideas?

It will pause after only a few frames. It will then play for a couple of seconds then pauses, this keeps repeating.
I just noticed this accelerated play then pause a few days ago.
Months ago it did this but not nearly as frequently. I blamed this early pausing on the tapes I bought, since I was in need of fresh tapes on a job (my pro tapes took a hit and were broken) so I had to buy local Wal Mart tapes to finish the job.
Luckily I was able to pull enough footage off these to finish the job.
Since my first post I researched some and read that people were hitting the bottom of their camcorders during play back and this would resolve the pausing. I am not a fan of this solution. I also read in there that someone thought that the rollers or wheels in the camcorder are lose or worn.
Does the record and playback use the same drive system? If so this should not be the problem since when recording the time code keeps advancing without pausing.

Intermittent pauses during Playback with Captivate 6

I am running Adobe Captivate 6.0.0.199... "Non-Quiz" slides intermittently pause during playback, but, only the animated text... the audio continues. This occurs regardless of a variety of export configurations I have tried. Ideas?

Please upgrade ASAP to 6.0.1.240. The version you are using has a lot of bugs, that were fixed with this patch released in October 2012 (not a typo - more than one year ago). Go to Help, Updates.

Oprah podcasts still pause during playback

Quite a while ago I asked about the weird hesitation during playback of any of the Oprah podcasts, but, although several people reported having the same experience, no one had an answer.
Well....thought I'd bring the subject up again and see if there was any answer to why this is happening, and how to correct it.
Basically, after about 20 minutes into any of the podcasts offered by Oprah's soul series, my iPod will lock up and pause for a while. Nothing can force the iPod out of this mode while it's paused... you just have to wait until, whatever is happening, finishes. As the program progresses, these pauses occur more frequently and the duration of the pause increases as well (sometimes lasting for a minute or longer).
BTW, the podcasts play fine, without hesitations, on iTunes within any Mac...only when played thru an iPod does this occur.
Of course, all other music, and podcasts, play back normally, without pauses.

I've identified two different Oprah Podcast series, I assume you are referring to the *Oprah.com Spirit Channel* (also known as *Oprah's Soul Series* ) with episodes: Kathy Freston from 18th August and Rodger Kamenetz from 26th August, is that correct?
If so, I notice that there are audio-only Podcasts & video Podcasts, so we need to know which episode types are causing the problem, audio, video-small screen or video-large screen. I'm currently downloading (as I write) the episode *Rodger Kamenetz part 1 - small screen* as a test. Are you trying to play the large-screen versions of the videos on your iPod?

Why is the finished DVD so low quality despite having chosen best quality for Pal. Compared to Pro Show Gold its rubbish !

I am VERY disapointed with the quality of a finished DVD. As a proffesional weddig photographer the program quality is just not proffesional in quality. Compared to Pro Show Gold by Photodex which unfortunately is not available in MAC format. Can anyone offer advice and proove me wrong for deciding on MAC over PC !

IPod pauses during playback, even when Hold is on

My iPod recently started to pause all by itself during playbacks. The problem has been recurring, sometimes as frequently as a few seconds apart. It stops even when the Hold switch is on. Motion seems to make it worse, although the problem still occurs when the iPod is sitting still. I haven't dropped the device or otherwise subjected it to impact. Please help!!!

Why does Prelude keep pausing during playback on ingest from a P2 Card?

When I am trying to mark my ins and outs on ingest. The video will not continue playing. It pauses a second or two after playing. How can this be fixed?

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.

Why do my photos look pixellated during playback on a TV?

Still using iLife '08 but have noticed recently that photos I use in slideshows (whether imported from iPhoto or Aperture) look as if they are slightly out of focus (or pixellated) when played back on a plasma/LCD television screen.
After building a slideshow on iDVD and then playing it on my cinema display the images look razor sharp but this is not the case after the DVD has been burned and is being played back on a domestic DVD player and a television screen.
I'm pretty sure this is to do with the difference in resolution between the cinema display and the television screen but I am wondering if there is/are a setting (or settings) in either iPhoto, iDVD or Aperture that I should be using to improve the quality of the images when they are displayed on the television screen.
I'd be grateful for any comments, ideas or suggestions.

I've noticed a very similar thing, again with iLife '08. I've created movies in iMovie and exported them as Quicktime files and to the Media Browser. They appear fine when playing them in Quicktime but appear pixellated when playing them in iDvD preview mode, this happens for both large and medium formats.
Look forward to hearing if anyone knows anything about it.

WHY ARE THE SKIP PLAY/PAUSE BUTTONS SO CLOSE TOGETHER!??!!?!

i always end up hitting SKIP foward or SKIP backward when i just want to hit PLAY/PAUSE because the buttons are so close together!!! its not like there isnt enough space on the phone to SPACE THEM OUT MORE. it forces me to spend forever trying to find my spot in the podcast/book im listening to. IT IS SO ANNOYING PLEASE FIX THIS ******** DESIGN.

FYI, no one I know or ever heard of (until you) has trouble with the spacing of the iPod controls. The spacing is just fine for me, and would be annoying to me if changed. Maybe Apple could optionally increase the spacing in the Accessibility settings.

Why are my burned DVDs being ejected or recognized as "blank"?

As the subject heading suggests, I am having problems with my iMac's CD/DVD drive. Commercial DVDs are readily recognized. DVD-Rs that were burned using Popcorn or Disk Utility are either spat out or recognized as "Untitled DVD.fpbf". I have tried switching System Preferences for opening a video DVD with DVD Player to opening the DVDs with Popcorn, Toast, Handbrake, VLC Player, etc. I've even tried Patchburn. The DVDs are recognized on my PowerBook running Snow Leopard.

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

Why are my burnt dvds showing either no video or green screens?

I edit using Avid Media Composer 3.1.2. I usually burn dvds from iDVD, but I also have Final Cut Studio on my Mac. I recently tried to burn a wedding in HD to a dvd, but the dvd came out half compressed, with a green screen covering the lower portion of the dvd. I did some "googling" and downloaded some codecs and ensured that my energy saving settings were set to "Never". This made it so that I couldn't view any videos on my computer, regardless of resolution. I shot a play back in December, also in HD, and that came out on dvd fine, as I was able to burn 30 copies and all were fine. I also just finished another wedding and half of that footage was HD, and the dvds came out great. I have now wasted 10 dvds trying to get this wedding to work. I have started to use disk images instead, simply to cut back on wasted dvds. I have been going at this for a few days now and nothing seems to be working. The bride is becoming impatient and this has never happened before.
I have tried many conversions and different formats. The original one (and the format that I most commonly use) is a Quicktime Reference. Quicktime keeps telling me to download a codec, but I can't seem to find anymore codecs.
Format (According to Quicktime Movie Inspector): 16 Bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz, 'AVdn', 1920 x 1080, Millions

AVdn is Avid's DNxHD codec .... you should be able to get it from the Avid website:

IPod First Generation sudden pause during playback

Whn i am playing AIFF files with my 1st generation iPod, it will have a sudden pause in the middle of the playback.

i want you to follow few steps
1) fully charge the ipod and then see if the symptoms reoccur
2)if it does, no point in resetting the ipod... instead update the computer with the latest ipod softwarre updater and restore the ipod with it..the contents of the ipod will be deleted you have to redownload them from your computer...now see if the problem reoccurs
3)if yes then you have to walk in to a nearest apple store maybe your ipod needs a service...no need to jump to conclusion that the ipod isnt working first follow the steps...

Nano pauses during playback - have to press key to replay

For no apparent reason, my ipod nano will seemingly pause in the middle of playing EVEN if the HOLD button is activated. It did this CONSTANTLY last night when running with it. Not sure why, but it seems the HOLD button doesn't deactivate the keys properly. I like my Shuffle much better!
Any ideas?

This happens to me when I use certain minijacks in the headphone port. If they shift, and come out slightly, the ipod pauses. Could that be it for you?

Audio pauses during playback

Although I can't replicate the problem on my machine my
client says that a few of the audio clips pause for a few seconds
then continue.
It's a glorified Powerpoint presentation with audio talking
about each slide. Graphics are exported JPEGs from Powerpoint and
the audio are basic mono 64kbps MP3s that have been imported into
Director and not externally linked.
I have a feeling the pauses are because of her computer's
access to the CD-ROM drive as it looks for the next graphic and
audio to load. I'm still waiting to hear from her on whether or not
this problem is replicated on another machine. I have no problem
with it on mine. Any other thoughts?

So if you are using ZenCast to download them, and transfer them, then they are going across as Motion-JPGs. Have you tried just copying over the MP3s to the device, not the Motion-JPGS. I have had some issues with the Motion-JPGs ZenCast creates. I think it has a hard time with VBR sometimes or something. But I find the MP3s play just fine.
So, do the MP3 files play OK?
