Why are my gradients so pixelated???

I have attached a pic of the gradient I am trying to create. Why is it so pixelated??? I am just drawing a white square and applying a gradient in the Blending Modes box and this is what I get... please tell me how to make it a smooth gradient!!! This is driving me crazy!

I'm sorry, but all I see is a 300 x 300 black square. Maybe this is due to me only having PS CS2?
Often, pixelation is a result of the the resolution of an image. What will happen is similar to Posterization. When you apply a Gradient, not as a Layer Effect, is the result the same?
Good luck,

  • Why are my (still) photos pixellated when I make a slideshow in iDVD?

I have made a slideshow of (jpeg) photographic images to play on a DVD (via a TV set). However, they now seem to be playing as pixellated photos, both on my laptop and on the tv screen... it seems to have degraded the images

    ink...
DVD are presently low resolution devices - NTSC is less than 640x490 pixels and your PAL discs are less than 768x576 pixels - probably 8 to 10 times lower resolution than your original digital images.
See Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for suggestions on the still image resolution to use.
By the way, did you bring the images directly into iDVD or were they exported from iPhoto?

  • Why are my images being pixelated when using free transform?

    HI.
I am pretty comfortbale with PS but stil learning more of the finer details.  I can't find an answer for this on any help topics or threads.
I often bring several images into a document or workflow and it seems that when I reduce an image that's too big for the canvas, it looses it's quality as soon as I break out the transform tool and becomes very pixelated.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks very much

Thanks for both of your suggestions.  My images are at 100ppi resolution and I am viewing the documents at about 150% the entire time.  My image interpolation is set for bicubit (best for smooth gradient).
I've tried to reproduce the problem in different ways before replying here and think I've narrowed it down a bit.  It seems that when I use the File->Place way to insert an image into an existing document, I don't run into this pixelation or image degredation issue.  It's only when I drag an image from one document to another using tabbed document introduced in CS4 (I'm using CS5 btw).
If I have document 1 open and drag an image (or layer) from document 2 into document 1, then resize that image in document 1, I get a loss of quality.  Not sure if that helps anyone else.  Also not sure why this is hapenning as the ability to drag layers back and forth is pretty handy and I'd rather not give it up.

  • Why are my gradients out of Illustrator coming out as NChannel?

I'm running into an issue with printing gradients. I build the file in Adobe Illustrator CC, in CMYK. I build a gradient of 100% Cyan to 1% Cyan. Save as a PDF 1.5, 1.6 or 1.7. When I look at the PDF with Acrobat it says the gradients are NChannel color space. To get them to work correctly I have to convert them to CMYK. Is there a reason why Illustrator changes the gradients to NChannel and not the image's color space?

Exactly where and when are you getting this message, please post a screenshot. Who is you rcolro specified in the swatches palette. They should be CMYK process and not spot if CMYK is what you are looking for.
NCHannel used for defining spot colors. DeviceN was added to PDF in the PDF 1.4 specifications. It enables more accurate handling of color blending by including additional dot gain and color mixing information.

To convert a document’s colors to a different color space:
In the Convert Colors dialog box, select an option from the list of color spaces and colorants used in the document. You can specify different conversion options for different color spaces and colorants. For example, you could embed separate color profiles to calibrate color for gray- scale, RGB, and CMYK objects. This strategy could be useful if your RIP color-manages PDF files or if you are sharing PDF files with others.
Select an option from the Action menu:
    • Preserve keeps objects in the selected color space when you output the document.
    • Convert uses the destination space profile to convert color objects to a common ICC profile for an output device.
    • Decalibrate removes embedded profiles from the color objects in that color space.
Choose a destination profile, which should accurately define the target output device.
    Specify which pages to convert.
Specify whether to embed the profile. If you embed the profile as a source color space, Acrobat tags all images with the destination profile. If you embed it as an output intent, Acrobat uses the destination profile as the output intent, replacing any existing output intent.
Select Preserve Black Objects to prevent text in RGB black, or other black objects, from being converted to rich black when converted to CMYK.
Depending on the color spaces you select, the Convert Colors command will preserve, convert, or map color values from the source color space to the specified destination space as follows:
Objects with untagged RGB data (DeviceRGB) convert from the working space RGB profile to the CMYK gamut of the destination space. Untagged CMYK (DeviceCMYK) and grayscale (DeviceGray) values are converted in the same way.
Objects in device-independent color spaces (CalGray, CalRGB, or CIE L*a*b) can be preserved or converted. If they are converted, Acrobat uses the device-independent object’s embedded profile information.
Objects set in spot colors (including Separation, DeviceN, and NChannel color spaces) can
be preserved, converted, or mapped (aliased) to any other ink present in the document. Spot colors can also be mapped to a CMYK process color, if the process color model of the destina- tion space is CMYK. Spot colors mapped to other inks can be previewed in the Output Preview dialog box.

  • Why are the gradient control handles invisible in isolation mode?

Whenever I have an object grouped, and double click to edit it, I can't get the gradient control handles to show up inside of it.
How can I get them to show up and why did they disappear in the first place?

Are you referring to the control handles in the gradient panel (A) or on the object (B) itself?

  • Why are all my images pixelated

i am using iWeb as a site for my photography, but when using iPhoto to import the photos (so they can be clicked on and seen larger) the larger photos in the slide show look pixelated. It is more noticable on images with peoples faces, but it does show up on all. I know it isn't an issue of too small file size since I have specificly made sure they are around 5x7 @72 dpi.
Could it be because I am publishing to a folder so that I can use my own domain name and I don't have the .mac subscription?
I have seen other people's iWeb sites too, that show just the image in the slideshow instead of the big ugly white boarder around the images. How can I do that?
For example my website is www.rebeccaellison.com
I saw someone else on this forum whose site I really like and doesn't have the issues I am describing. THat site is www.chrisgibbs.com (I hope he doesn't mind me using his site as an example...)
    Please help.
    iBook g4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    mybelbo:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What are the pixel dimensions of the large renditions of the photos? 7x5 @ 72 would give you 502 pixels x 360 pixels which is a lot smaller that what iWeb creates by default. iWeb, by default, produces 800 pixel x 600 pixel images as the large sized images. So if you don't pre-resize the images before adding to the iWeb page you'll get the 800 x 600 sized images.
Can you give is the URL to you site so we can view the issue?
    Do you Twango?

  • Why are my gradients changing when I save as an .svg?

Occasionally when I save to .svg in Illustrator CS5, my gradient changes colors from color-to-color, to color-to-white!
This never happened in CS3. This also happens sometimes when I past as a smart object into a Photoshop document! GERRRRRRRR!!!!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheyenne

    Hi Mylenium,
you are completely correct. I think the issue was due to some strange document settings carried over from CS3. I ended up trashing those files and pasting into fresh CS5 documents, which corrected the issue. However I can't reproduce the issue now
Thanks for your help though, and I appologise for the lack of documentation.
    Cheers,
    Cheyenne

  • Why are my gradients turning into compund paths?

I have applied simple gradients to shapes. When I try to select the object with the direct selection tool, it selects paths made from the gradient, not the object itself. Anyone know why?

I don't have a screen shot, but basically on some of my objects the radial gradient is splitting into concentrical paths. When I try to move or edit the object with the direct selection tool, it selects and moves one of the concentrical paths, not the whole object. If I look at it in outline mode, the object has many concentrical paths. It should be just one path. I don't know what I did to cause this, or how to fix it.

  • Why are my placed drawings pixeled and blurry?

I've tried to place drawings (originally from a pdf file) in .ai, .jpg. .pdf and .eps format in an indesign document version CS5. They all appear blurry, despite looking nice and sharp in illustrator. What am I doing wrong?

    Sheila,
Bob, like me and many forum regulars, is subscribed to the entire InDesign forum and does most of his responding by email becasue he finds it more efficient. In any topic you are likely to get duplicate responses because many users have an opportunity to answer the question, and may be doing so simultaneously, or simply may not have received the previous posts in their email yet.
The only way you can avoid getting additional email from your thread is if you return to the forum page for the topic and turn off your email notifications.

  • Why are there little yellow pixels on my screen?

Lately, my Macbook Pro's display has been acting up. There's these little yellow squares that keeping popping up on my screen while scrolling through something. They then disappear as soon as I scroll up or down again or open a app, tab, etc... does anyone know what might be causing this and know what would be the best way to stop it from happening?
    thanks.

I'm having the same problem! And just today I noticed little black squares in Mail. Prior to today, the little squares had been yellow and had been limited to web browsers and PDF readers. I called this into AppleCare 6 months ago, and we did a system restore. After that didn't fix it, I took it into an Apple Store, and they said it wasn't the hardware. I called AppleCare today and they told me it sounded like corrupted files. We did a disk repair through Disk Utility and everything seemed to be OK until I just opened Safari and got a bunch of little black squares before my home page loaded. So far no more yellow squares, but only time will tell...

  • Why Are My Fonts and Imported Photos Pixelated in Photoshop?

It is so strange. I worked on a Photoshop document earlier today. I imported a photo and wrote text on it. When I printed it, it came out perfect. Then I started a new document. I imported a photo which is 2400 pixels wide. The document size is only 11 inches wide so the photo should stay nice a sharp. I also wrote text on the document. Both in screen mode and when I print this new document, everything is pixelated and fuzzy, not crisp like my first document. Also, when I type text the font is in SHARP mode so I don't see what the problem is. Please help? Please help me get sharp prints again.
    Thank you,
    David

I have never had this issue before. Whenever I PLACED a document, it was always sharp, no matter what size the document was? Also, why is the font type pixelated? I would be happy to send you the PSD so you can see for yourself.

  • If i am the only user and owner of my macbook, then why are there 78 users in the directory editor?

Hi guys just wanted to know little bit about the open directory as my MacBook Pro has been playing up on and off at least a couple of years.  I have been advised by Apple over the phone or as well as over the genius bar in trying to get my mac to behave.  This normally solves whatever problem that has been happening at the time. "Great, job done!"...  Not so much, as another problem eventually shows it's ugly pixelated face again and then we end up going round the Infinite loop ride one more time...  And this ride ain't always free!  I have forked out about £600 on it so far and it wasn't cheap in the beginning!  Anyway I have just got off the ride and before I get punched by a plyst to get back on I would rather learn about the things I don't understand so hopefully I can resolve the matter without hair loss.  So my main question so far is why are there 78 user names (most of which are computer related names, not all) are found in Directory Utility?  I do not play games on my Mac it is mainly used for media such as iPhoto, iTunes, pages, mail and surfing the net.  So which out these 78 users do I select as a server?
If you have any suggestions or pointers then please post a reply.
    Thanks for reading
    Orion

So which out these 78 users do I select as a server?
None. It's normal. Make no modifications.
It's not clear what trouble you are experiencing, or if anything is wrong at all. If your Mac is not behaving as you expect it should, describe what's wrong in as much detail as possible.
Include all relevant details regarding your MacBook Pro starting with which one of its three dozen models you have. Posting the results of EtreCheck will help with that. Read about it here.

  • HT201317 why are some of my photos in albums on my phone but not in photo stream

Why are photos taken with iphone in "album" but not on photostream? All setting are on.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what are the pixel dimensions of the photos in question?
did you import one library into another at any time?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Hi why are my photos after downloading twice ,once in photo library and once in a file with the date why cant i delete a file its an iphone 4s please help

why are my photos after downloadon twice one as photo library the other as a file with date how can i delete one file same pics

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.
