why are my movies not showing on my Mac Book, which is the computer that I used to purchase the movie, but showing on my IMAC at home...I am currently deployed so this ***** a bit. Also how do I keep this incedent from happending in the future?

No, this is not the case. I know where i purchased the movie and I also know movies cant be added to the cloud such as music, TV shows can.  The instance happened during the dowload. I think that depending which computer is up and running and the bandwith allocated on either network, which ever computer that finishes first is the one that gets the movie. Just a thought. So next time I will ensure my IMAC is not running. I think that fixes it.
    Thanks

I can't remember exactly what I did. I do know that when I started it up, I couldn't find the Setup Assistant on the hard drive,
No, once a user has been created, you can't run Setup Assistant  (without erasing and reinstalling).
What do you recommend for fixing this?
    Here's what's happened:
When you first start up a Mac and create the first user account, OSX assigns it UID (User ID) #501.  The next one gets #502, etc.  Those UIDs (not the user name) are what control permission to files.
You can see those numbers via System Prefs > Users & Groups;  click the padlock and enter your Admin password, then select an account and right-click it, and select Advanced Options.  Do not change anything on that window.
So . . . assume your old iMac had a user 501 with the data you want; it's identified that way on the backups.
When the Apple Store started up your new Mac, and created their account, it became #501.
When you used Migration Assistant to transfer the 501 account from the iMac's backups, OSX copied everything there "as is" except it had to change the 501 to 502.
The new 502 account has all the right permissions to things now in it's home folder, but the backups belong to user 501.
Have you added much to the Mac since you did the migration?  Have you done any new backups?  If not, while it's a bit of a hassle, one fix would be to create yet another user account temporarily.  Make it an Admin account.  Log on to it and delete all the other accounts.  Then migrate the accounts from your backups; this time there won't be a conflict, so OSX won't have to change the UUID(s).
But if you have done new backups, this won't work, since Migration Assistant automatically uses the most recent backup.  There's a way around that, but it's a bit (or more) tedious.
    Clear as mud?

  • Why are still photos blurry when I play movie?

I am making a video slideshow using Adobe Premiere Elements 9. Most of the video is made up still photos. When I playback the video the still photos are blurry. What should I do to prevent this? Thanks!

I read your article Bill, and that just seems like a massive amount of work for the average individual who wants to put together a movie. Is all of that really necessary?
With PS, or PSE, and Scaling Actions, one can do batch processing of entire folders of images in moments. That linked article gives setup tips for doing batch scaling very easily, and the Action, plus Automate to Batch, will work on entire folders. My workstation will automatically process ~ 500 4000x3000 pixel images to 720x480 in about 2 mins.
There are two benefits when Scaling stills in an image processing program, prior to Import into an NLE (Non Linear Editor) program:
The processing overhead is greatly reduced
The quality is greatly improved, as the Scaling algorithms in an image processing program, are much better *
If one wants to let the NLE program do the processing, and one has many large images (especially at still camera resolutions), then they WILL need a very powerful computer.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * PrPro, as of CS5, has improved the quality of Scaling, but the overhead issue still exists.

  • Why are some movies only available in languages other than the original version?

I have mentionned this before, and it keeps happening, and it is oh so annoying! Why in the world would you make a movie available in a translated version, but not in the original? This has happened to me several times now, and it is incredibly frustrating. At least when buying movies on Amazon, I always easily know what language it will be in! Films in French? Some are just in French, some are in French and others. Films in Dutch? Quite a few are originals with Dutch, why not do the same in French?

Take it up with whomever or whatever company distributes those films in your country.  Those sorts of options are up to the distributors, not Apple.  Only the company or people who own or control the distribution rights to the intellectual property can say what is or is not put up in the iTunes Store.

  • Why are some photos blurry on iweb?

When I drop in crisp clear photos, they instantly look blurry, especially when I use the edges to reduce or enlarge the photo - even the smallest amount.
I am using jpegs with a standard res of 640x480 - I have not encountered any problems in other applications when dropping in photos or making minor adjustments in the image size (through dragging) - why here? I am pulling the photos from ones I already have stored on my idisc (since they are already a smaller file size from the originals in my iphoto library).
Anyone have any suggestions? I would like my web site to look as polished and professional as possible and blurry photos isn't helping that goal.
    Thanks,
    Bob

I am getting blurry pictures too. I can't understand why. I edited the images in Photoshop, saved them as jpg's about 5X6 inches at 100 dpi, imported to iPhoto, dragged the images to my pages. Resulting images are not clear. Even after using the adjustment tool, some do not get sharp. I have tried sizing images to various sizes and resolutions without success. I have been customizing pages. Someone at Apple said that it must have something to do with the converter. I don't know. I just know that my originals are tack sharp and my pictures on iWeb leave a lot to be desired. Anyone have a cure for this? I am on an eMac running OSX 10.3.9. My work is published in B&W magazine this month and my web site has to be clear. See my web site for examples. http://www.RussAndMarciaMartin.com Some look good while others do not. If you look around, you will find blurry ones. I don't know why some are clear and others aren't.
    Thanks

  • Why are exported movies letterboxed?

I'm looking at the video clips I imported into my computer, and they are the same aspect ratio as my screen, filling it up when I choose to play it in Full Screen. However, once I put the video in Premiere and then export it, the video becomes letterboxed, both vertically and horizontally, so that when I play Full Screen, the video is smaller and surrounded by a black frame.
Why does it do this? And how do I change it so that it stops letterboxing my movies? Any help would be appreciated.
PS I don't really know if this is still considered letterboxing.

When I started the project I just took whatever the default settings were, which as I'm checking now is NTSC-DV-Standard 48kHz. I'm looking more into it since you suggested this, so I'll let you know if I find anything else.
As for how I got the video. It's from my Canon Vixia HG20. I imported them to my computer first, and then used Premiere to take the files that were already in my computer. As I stated in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3360868#3360868 , I couldn't import directly from the camcorder to Premiere.

I don't know if it is okay to ask this here but... has anyone tried the generator coverflux2? When I import the images they are all blurry. Any idea why? Thanks.
Perfectly fine to ask here but you really want to talk to the people who make the filters for questions about specific filters. There's a user forum for FxFactory somewhere.

  • Why are rentable movies not Dolby Digital?

Can somebody tell me why most movies rentable via AppleTV do not have surround sound?  I'm not talking about the technical capability of an AppleTV, I know it can handle it as occasionally some movies and TV shows have it.  But most do not.  I personally will not rent any movies without it as quality sound is a huge part of a good movie. Does anybody know the reason for this?

I'm pretty sure that every movie that gets released in a movie theater is going to be in surround sound. If not DD, than one of the other formats.  It's not exactly high tech to produce a movie with surround anymore (although the quality of the effects may not always be great)  I think the question is why Apple is not carrying the surround encoding over.
I definitely have seen issues where movies on ATV are lableled as having DD but don't output as such.  That is a long running problem and I have fixes for that.

  • Why are photos so blurry inside and so clear outside

My photos that I take inside are most of the time blurry and the ones I take outside are not. Why is this? How can I make the photos not blurry?

Generally there is more light outside so the camera can use a faster shutter speed. This makes for sharper photos. Indoors there is usually less light resulting in a slower shutter speed. Any slight camera motion will cause blur in your photos. First thing to do is make sure you are holding the phone very steady when taking pictures.

  • Why are my movies, which are still available in itunes, disappearing from my account?

I have had several movies (Thor, Capt America, Xmen first class) disappear across the cloud.  They are still on my computer where I originally transferred the digital copy, but can't get them on apple tv.  The itunes store has them as available to purchase like I haven't already done that with the digital copy.  I was able to reinstall with the digital copy disc and my old code, but what happens when those codes don't work anymore?  Why did itunes not recognize the purchase?  This first happened several months ago with xmen.  Then I noticed this evening the same thing had happened to capt america and thor.  Would like to prevent it from happening in the future incase I no longer have the digital copy disk or my kids lost the codes.

Also it now means that I have duplicate graphics on my computer now.  One with the cloud logo and one that is the movie appear because of the reinstall.

  • Why  are the movies $1 more on apple tv than itunes??

i was looking on my itunes to day & saw the movies where cheaper on itunes, so why did i pay $129 for the apple tv when & can run my 4m hdmi in to my bravia ?????

    Just to clarify:
Within the itunes store you can buy movies in:
480p (standard def.)  = cheapest option
720p (HD) = Generally $1 more (if available to download in the first place, as not all titles are avail in HD)
    1080p (HD) = Same price as 720p
On an ATV, by default you only have the option to purchase movies in HD (at the prices noted above), provided an HD format is available in the first place.
On an ATV-2, you cannot access 1080p rentals at any time (if you try a work around with itunes, you will be dissapointed...  https://discussions.apple.com/message/18013054#18013054)
To access 1080p rentals within itunes, you must choose to download the higher stream (BUT FIRST)...
-you must turn on 1080p downloads:
    1)open settings menu
    2) go to preferences
    3) click store
4)change the default HD videos preference (shown below)

  • Why are certain movies no longer available?

My husband purchased Bicentennial Man on iTunes a few years ago and after Robin Williams death I wanted to purchase the movie for my iPad. After a frustrating search I see it is no longer available in the U.S. iTunes Store. I want to know why. Also, Aladddin isn't available either but you can get it on the European iTunes Store.

The owners of the distribution rights for the films make that decision. it's not up to Apple. Disney is notorious for this. They will make films available only for a limited time to drive sales.
Films may also be removed for periods of time if someone like HBO gets exclusive rights to air them for a period of time.
