Why are my transparent pixels becoming opaque (grey)?

I have PSE 6, and am using it for digital scrapbooking. Some of the elements have transparent pixels, which allows you to see the background and layers beneath the elements. For some reason, when I drag one of these elements onto a background or another element, the transparent pixels become gray, creating an ugly grey box around the element. Also, I see when the new layer is created (on the background), by dragging the element onto the background, it becomes a "frame layer". Not sure exactly what that means, but I am thinking it might have something to do with this problem.   Hopefully someone has a suggestion

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to make my views float over the desktop so that the content is shown whilst the window border is hidden.
    So far so good, I ask for the window to be borderless
    then I use the setOpaque:(BOOL)isOpaque to NO
    and ofcourse ask my view to clear itself before being composited over...
    But a problem arises if I ask for the window's principal view to be layer backed. This happens if I want to swap several of these floating views into the borderless window and decide to animate them whilst they're doing so . The window stops being transparent. The views swap in and out well but with a white rectangle behind them.
    Any ideas how to fix this?

    I'm using the Gallery widget to display PDFs in iBooks Author, but the PDFs are coming across with transparent backgrounds. This is okay, except when you tap to enlarge them -- with the black background, they become un-readable.

    After much research and trial and error, it turns out giving a transparent PDF a white background is nearly impossible. It seems like the best solution to this problem is to use the Keynote widget. I've imported the PDF pages into Keynote, added a white rectangular background to each, and used some of Keynote's cool features to make it a little more interactive (see example here).
    Problem: users can't zoom in on the PDF, which isn't ideal. But it's the best solution I've found so far.

  • Why are PSD images pixelated on Mobile site?

    Hi all,
    In my muse site I have several .psd images that are pixelated when rendered on a mobile version (testing on iPhone 5).
    They are psd buttons with a normal & rollover state. I have tried the knack I read somewhere of reducing both layers opacity in PS to 99% but this hasn't helped (can't remember why this would help).
    When you pinch to zoom on the mobile, the image obviously gets more pixelated. The image is 165 x134 px....Is it a case of designing the image much larger and then creating a frame in Muse at 165 x 134 and placing the large image in this smaller box? Would this appear crisp when zooming in? The image even at normal size still seems pixelated too?
    Really stuck on this one for a while so any help would be much appreciated. The 4 psd buttons appear under 'Features' on the middle of the home page.

  • Why are my iPod's contents all greyed out when viewed from iTunes?

    I have a 5th gen iPod nano, with software version 1.0.2
    I have sync'd the iPod with the content I have in iTunes. Now when I try to look at any of the content on the iPod via iTunes (by connecting the docking cable, and clicking on the iPod under "DEVICES"), everything is greyed out. I can't play any of the music or modify any of the information, like volume adjustment or equalizer presets.
    Does anyone know why this happens and how I can fix it? I already tried restoring the iPod and re-syncing everything. It worked for awhile and then the same thing happened.

  • Why are slideshow photos pixelated in burned DVD?

    My photos in iPhoto are great but when I add them to my iDVD project, burn the DVD, then view on my DVD player/TV or on my iMac computer they are "pixelated" (edges are rough). Does it have to do with the size I use on my digital camera? Is it something I can resolve before I burn the DVD?

    Okay I will give you the figures for what I think you asked....project duration=51:46, encoder setting=best Perform. & I checked enable background encoding. The whole folder is 9.09GB and that folder has 5 items in it which are listed below. This is my 4th project so I don't really know my way around totally but every time I put one together I am learning something new. These projects have half video & half digital camera stills & music with the slideshow.

    Paid for iTunes Match with almost 1400 songs in library.  Only 815 were "matched"  even though other songs from same album were greyed out and can't be played.   WHY?????????

    Does your music also play in a loop? The repeat settings for music, videos and podcasts are the same IIRC. See if setting it so your music doesn't repeat works.

    First off, don't confuse "alpha" with "transparency" they are different.
    If I create a RGB document with one layer and call the Dissolve example I get the following bits of information in the FilterRecord:
    planes = 4
    imageMode = 3 // plugInModeRGBColor

    inLayerPlanes = 3
    inTransparencyMask = 1
    plane 0 = red, 1 = green, 2 = blue, 3 = transparency
    See DoFilter, the loop on the planes, and DissolveRectangle, the changing of the data on each plane, in the Dissolve.cpp example file.
    Now flatten the document and create an alpha channel and select all channels via the channels panel. Selecing just the alpha channel or any one channel will have different results.

    Hello. How can I select ALL non-transparent pixels from a layer?
    - Ctrl + click doesn't work (it seems to have a 50% tolerance - my opacity 7% and 40% pixels don't get selected);
    - The magic wand tool with 0% tolerance does work (when I click on a transparent pixel it selects ALL opacity 0% pixels around it and then I just have to inverse selection), BUT my image has a lot of holes with transparent areas and selecting them one by one would be tedious.

    I think it should. if your only going by the selection outline, then the selection outline only shows the pixels that are 50% or more selected.
    In other words the pixels have varying degrees of transparency. If the selected pixel is not at least 50% opaque then the selection outline doesn't show them, but they are selected when ctrl clicking on a layer thumbnail.
    After making the selection by ctrl clicking make a new layer and fill the selection with black and then turn off the visibilty of all the other layers.
    You should get a better idea of what is happening.If you were to lock the transparency of the layer and fill with black you should get the same result.
    If you use the magic wand at 0% tolerance then your not getting a true selection of the layer transparency, but rather making the partially transparent pixels fully opaque (selected).

    My filter plugin modifies the alpha channel values of various pixels and I noticed that when an 8 bpc pixel's alpha is set below 50 (or so) that the pixel ends up turning grey, as if the R,G,B values were all set to the same value. Is this Photoshop's behaviour when painting/compositing pixels that are very transparent or am I confused? :-)

    My prefs are set to show the transparency checkerboard, and my code is directly modifying the RGBA values of 8 bpc pixels. The '50' I referred to above was the actual alpha channel uint8 value, not a percentage.
    The following is the code I'm using to test with. I put it in the DoFilter() function, at line 401, in the Dissolve sample project and disabled the for loop that iterates over the planes. I'm using the CS2 SDK and am testing with PS CS3.
    I'm testing with a PSD with 2 layers in RGB 8 bpc mode. The background layer is entirely black and I've tried filling the foreground layer with various solid colors to test with. I'm applying the filter to this foreground layer.
    1. With a color of 255,0,0 after applying the filter the new color (in the Info palette, or with the eye dropper) is 40,0,0.
    2. With a color of 0,200,0 the filter changes it to 0,0,0.
    3. With a color of 200,255,0 the filter changes it to 0,40,0.
    4. With a color of 180,215,87 the filter changes it to 215,215,215. This is what made me think it was turning to gray.
