Why are my web browsers constantly freezing?

Whether it is safari, firefox, camino or seamonkey, after leaving the browser idle for like 5 minutes while reading a page then clicking a link to visit another page the browser freezes and I must use force quit and restart. This is so frustrating, and I know it is not specific to one browser because I experience the same problem with all of them, whether I have 2 or 3 windows opened at once or only one opened at once. What is the problem?

The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
form values
download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
com.apple.Safari.plist
Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
Many add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
Restart Safari, and repair permissions.

Why are all alternative browsers on iOS restricted to age 17 except for Google Chrome?

I have noticed that all browsers available on Appstore are forced to rate themselves as restricted for ages 17+.
The only browser that does not have this age restriction is google chrome which is rated ages 4+.
I am wondering what the difference is on Google Chrome.

I'm pretty happy with the iOS parental control features, and that iOS is the only OS that makes such thing even possible. All web browsers have an age rating 17+, where the download of such browsers can be blocked by means of PG features.
Funny though that Apple lets Google break the PG feature by allowing a regular web browser that allows unfiltered access regardless of the PG settings. Google has the only browser on the app store with a 4+ (!!) rating.
I believe this is an error that happened by negligence, because the Google app didn't used to be a browser.
Anyhow, for now the PG feature of your iOS device is broken. Your child will find that out because all of his/her classmates know this. Your only choice is to delete the app and change the Apple ID password and not let him/her have it.
If you think an iPod is a safe toy, please reconsider.

Why is my Macbook Pro constantly freezing?

Ok so here's the story about how my mac got a brand new battery and a clean wipe and it's acting like it gained age... Meaning that it freezes constantly as if it were extremely old and overused. I've even referenced the web and found out some tricks to see if the disk is ok by doing safe boot (holding down the shift key), running the disk utility to verify the disk and even going into Single User Mode (holding down command + S and typing fsck -fy to fix any errors) but it'll ALWAYS tell me that it appears to be ok... clearly it isn't cause even after doing this SEVERAL times I get blue screens, gray screens with lines, black screens, random freezes if I manage to even get it to the my main screen and so forth.
I also have windows partitioned but I haven't used it so what can I do?

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

when visiting a site that uses java my web browser blinks when ever there is an update to the information on the screen. Is there something i should change in my java preferences?

Why are the web pages of SharePoint 2013 so devoid of colour and distinct boundaries and leave screen space unutilized

This was a comment from my business users who have worked with various versions of SharePoint. I understand SP 2013 has put in logic to make the web pages to be compatible with a wider set of browsers and screen form factors. Nevertheless, the issues raised
by my business users are valid.
Comparing a basic web part page of SP 2013 with SP 2007 and 2010, their feedback was:
SP 2013 pages do not have clear boundaries
SP 2013 pages are generally devoid of colour. This is makes it harder to visually distinguish links from ordinary text.
SP 2013 pages appear to leave large swathes of screen space underutilized.

1. When insert a web part in SharePoint 2013, you can edit the web part and change the appearance and layout of the web part.
You can add the boundaries for the web part. (Edit page->select a web part ->edit the web part->in the appearance section->in Chrome Type, select title and border->after that you can see the boundaries).

Why are my movies from Motion freezing and skipping after exporting them?

So I just got motion and was playing around with some slow motion stuff, they never play smoothly when I am trying to watch them in motion, actually no video in motion plays smoothly weither it has slow motion or not. Anyway, I would finish one clip, export it, then try to watch it with quicktime and it would skip and freeze in quicktime to. I thought it might be a problem with quicktime so I restarted my computer and the same thing happened. I tried watching a video that wasn't from motion and it played fine. I tried playing a clip from motion again and it did the same thing, so I tried watching it in iTunes, and iTunes did the same thing. I tried watching it with Picasa, Picasa did the same thing. I have no idea why it is doing it but it is very anoying when I can't see how my own video turned out. Anyway any help would be appreciatied! Thanks!

what codec are you exporting from motion? if its a huge old codec like 8-bit or 10 bit uncompressed then your computer may not be able to handel the playback. have you tried exporting doem small version to see your work?

Why are some of my slides freezing?

I'm using Captivate 6, and two slides out of 24 in my project "freeze" part way through when I play the SWF. The audio plays through to the end, but the closed captioning does not progress, and the images/ buttons and other timed events past the 6 second mark to not appear. Using the "forward" control on the SWF player starts the next side, so it is behaving as if there is a pause in the slide. But there isn't one.
And before you tell me about the "Pause After:" options in Properties/Timing; the only paused event I have in my time line for this slide is the "next" button that does not even get to appear on these 2 slides as I have timed it to appear 2 seconds before the end of the slide. And the "next" button is configured exactly the same as in the other 22 slides - and they work just fine.
There isn't an issue when I play the slde in preview (F3), and I have tried forcing a re-publish of all slides when I publish the SWF - but regardless of these it's still broken.
Should I just recreate these two slides? I mean it's only 15 minutes work .. but it would be nice to know a quick fix or a reason why this is happening so I can correct it if it happens again.

Thanks Rick, I checked that out. I even removed all the images/objects to avoid timing issues - and it still stalled shortly after the slide launched. So, I recreated both the slides and it seems that the backgrounds I was using for these slides were corrupt. It wouldn't let me set them as background in the newly recreated slides. Once I created new backgrounds for the slides they worked just fine.
Anyone else ever had an issue where a corrupt/damaged background caused a pause/error?

Why are my web pages so small?

I've noticed when using my iPhone (3G) that some web pages, when double-clicked, briefly flicker, like they're trying to expand, but then they return quickly to their original mini size. Other web pages, when double-clicked expand to a larger more readable size. Why is this happening? Is this a web page design issue or is it inherent in the iPhone?

Not always. I've come across a few that don't resize. It's not common but it does happen.

Why are my web pages scrolling half way down by themselves while I'm using my apple magic mouse. And no, it's not the mouse, apple replaced it

Only in Firefox when I'm at a site the page will scroll down about half way and stop at by itself which is annoying when I am filling out a form or looking for something. I use to have a problem when I was scrolling and the page would freeze and I would have to go to the scroll bar and manually move the page up and down to active the scroll on my mouse and yes this is a new mouse replaced by Apple.

As I've mentioned above, I was informed that updating to 5.0.1 would '''require''' me to '''delete''' the current version and then install the new one. And doing so will involve losing all my bookmarks. I guess I should have been more specific and detailed there. By losing, I didn't mean losing them forever. I'm aware that they're secured in some place and deleting and installing the software doesn't harm its existence. What I meant that if I install the new version, I'd have to delete the old one. And after installing the new version, I'd have to transfer them (bookmarks) back from wherever they are. Get it? When it updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.13, and from 3.6.13 to 3.6.18, I didn't need to follow that process. They were already present on their own.
BTW, I'm having no problems with 3.6.18 but after learning about the existence of version 5.0.1, I'm a bit too eager to lay my hands over it.

Please Help- iWorks and web browsers keep freezing!

I left for a family affair two weeks ago with my MacBook acting normal as usual. I returned about a week ago to this issue I can't seem to resolve!
For starters- I am unable to use Firefox, which is the browser I normally use (I never use Safari, until now that is). I open it in the dock, it bounces for an unusually long amount of time, the page comes up but does not load, then the rainbow wheel pops up and Firefox eventually quits "unexpectedly" or due to "inactivity". If I try to force quit, the Finder freezes, the dock freezes, and I am unable to do anything but sit and wait. I've restarted several times and that hasn't fixed the issue.
So now I've been using Safari, which has also been giving me troubles. If I have two or more tabs open and the same time and continue to load pages at the same time and float between tabs frequently, Safari freezes up and eventually quits. If I try to force quit, the same thing happens as does with Firefox.
Also, I am unable to use Pages or Numbers (the only two applications I've seemingly had trouble with so far). Pages doesn't even pull up a document I try to open or pull up a blank page -- it just pinwheels and quits. If I try to force quit, the same thing happens as does with Firefox, the finder and the dock freeze up and I am unable to do anything but force a restart or sit and wait. Same with Numbers. It asks me if I want to open a blank page, and if I click yes, then my dear friend pinwheel pops up again.
I don't know too much about Macs, though I've never owned a windows, but I've been reporting my problems to apple numerous times (with no return) and I've been searching through other mac-related websites and they're forums. One forum suggested repairing the disk, which I don't know anything about, but did and that still hasn't helped.
I hope someone knows what's going on with my mac because I sure don't!

I am having this same problem and I have NO idea what is causing it. I have been searching high and low for an answer, and nothing seems to be appearing. The only thing I could think now is to maybe re-install Firefox. That is the browser I have been using and that this has happened in.

Why are some web pages not loading fully or at all in chrome?

I just updated to 10.6.8 half an hour ago, and I tried watching videos on youtube, using google chrome. The first thing that I noticed is that the page turns completely transparent, invisible. I can see the toolbar, web adress bar and bookmarks bar, but everything else is invisible, with just a semi-transparent line marking the border of the would be. I then tried loading up a video in my history, to see if it was just the main page with this issue. When I loaded up a video, any video, the player itself would be transparent but the rest of the window and it's contents were visible, and I could still hear the audio stream from the video that should have been playing.
It happened again when I came here, some of the support links I opened would only be visible if I opened them within the same tab, if I tried to open them in a new tab they would also turn invisible. What's causing this and how do I fix this?

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Uninstall then reinstall the plugin.

Yes you are right firefox is not supported. When you want to use firefox you need to install an agent switcher (https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&category=Developer%20Tools&numpg=10&id=59). But be aware that not every htmlb element will work correctly with firefox. I use firefox only for development (the javascript console it so much better than the IE one).

Why are my web analyzer exception symbols arrows?

Hello all,
I think that when I was in the class for BEx a while back that when we created exceptions for a query and then launched it in the web analyzer the images showed as little red, yellow, and green circles. I recently implemented some exceptions on a query and when I ran it I got black colored DOWN, SIDEWAYS, and UP arrows. I would like to have the little circle show instead. How do I go about changing what the symbols look like. I am suspecting that it may be in the MIME directory, but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated and points awarded.

Why are Adobe Flash Player scripts freezing?

I've noticed in the last week or two my scripts for Adobe Flash Player completely freezing up. After a full five minutes of freezing, I get a general warning that:
"A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"
"become" unresponsive? lol Anyway, even after I click "yet", it still takes a least another five minutes before it unfreezes. Now, I used to problems with Jave scripts, but those wouldn't take tens-of-minutes to abort. I've literally had Adobe Flash Player scripts freezes for 15 minutes at a time leaving my browser completely unresponsive.
It all happened after updating my plug-ins. I've tried messing around with them, disabling them all. I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash player and making sure I had the right version for my old-ish operating system (Windows XP). That seemed to work for one session, but it's back to freezing after logging into places like mail.com.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is this a plug-in issue? How can be be remedied?

Unfortunately, this is not my problem. I can video videos on sites like Youtube, just find. The scripts freeze up on random pages. Basically, anywhere with ads that use Adobe Flash Player. It didn't use to do this.

Why are my web pages appearing in a list format instead of their usual appearance?

When I access my Yahoo home page as well as other pages, the site appears as a menu rather than in it's normal format, I cannot find any function that will allow me to change it back, Internet Explorer does not have this problem so I am fairly certain it is a problem with firefox. Can you help?

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
* Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause issues like you described.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
