Why are objects becoming distorted when zoomed in?

Lets say for example that I create a target shape at a relatively large size. I will then shrink it down to a more appropriate size and proceed to zoom in on the object. When I zoom in, the target becomes completely distorted. This is a problem that I came across recently as I have just upgraded from cs4 to cs5.1. Since Illustrator is vector based, objects should be crisp and look the same whether they are scaled to the size of the full artboard or down to just 1% of it, correct?
I have posted a screen shot of the issue that I am running into below. The larger shape on the left is normal, and the shape on the right is that same shape just scaled down. Note: this shape does not have strokes, it is a solid fill. Thanks for any help in advance!

This is what I had originally thought was the issue, so I created a new doument making sure to uncheck the box for the pixel grid. I then dragged the above shape into the new document and the problem persisted. However, when I recreated a similar shape in the new document, there was no distortion (as expected). It seems that for some reason an object created in a document with the pixel grid option turned on keeps those settings when carried into the new document.
Is there a way around this or am I going to have to recreate everything in the new document?
Thanks for tee response, btw!

  • Why are the options for "When Firefox starts" NOT clickable in Firefox 5? I want to choose "Windows and tabs that where opened last time you accessed the net" but Firefox won't let me.

    In the previous version of Firefox one could choose to save tabs so that when Firefox opened, all the tabs from the previous sessions appeared. This was done in Settings > Options > General > Startup. In the menu for the "When Firefox Starts" one had the option for "Windows and tabs that where opened last time you accessed the net." in Firefox 5.0, this menu is gray and not clickable. Help, please?

    ''Why are the options for "When Firefox starts" NOT clickable in Firefox 5?"
    Possibly you are not saving your "browsing history" which is what the session history is tied into.
    '''Not saving History''' -- check your settings for '''Tools > options > Privacy'''', make sure you are not clearing more than just cache in "Settings for Clearing History"
    * http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4928/clearcachew.png
    * clearing your history at end of session, cache is the only one you would want to clear at end of session, if you don't want to lose things
    There are several things that are related to private browsing and not saving History
    * Private Browsing Ctrl+Shift+P
    * You selected "Never remember history" in first drop-down of Tools > Options Privacy and all of the check marks disappear (See picture above)
    * "Permanent private browsing mode" was check-marked under "Use custom settings for history" in the first drop-down of Tools > options > Privacy (see picture above)

    Hi,
    The 'features' you refer to are not anything that a customer should really care about, so why don't you just turn them off.
    Do you really care about "Location-based iAds" - I've hardly ever even seen iAds!
    Do you really care about the time-zone updating based upon your international location - unless you are a very frequent traveller, this 'feature' is pretty useless and can be turned off without losing functionality that matters.
    The specific features to turn off are indicated in my post above - they are all in one place, they can all be turned off in about 20 seconds, and your problem will go away, and you will not lose any important functionality.
    Obviously I would agree with your point if you had to refrain from using the phone or making text messages, or playing games, or taking photos... all of which are genuinely useful features of a phone.
    But I disagree with you that you should deny yourself reasonable battery life on the basis that you need the specific features that made you buy this "Apple product and not an Android one" when these features are in fact not first-line, or even-second line features... they are just 'things' that make very little difference to how a person would use their iPhone at all.
    Anyway, that's my thoughts on it. Yes of course it would be great if Apple could fix the bug but as it isn't showstopping, I find it hard to get worked up about it

    Why are two pages yoked when I prepare a newletter?  How do I delete one without the other?

    They are all part of one Section. Just as you do not (hopefully) rip pages out at random from books, the pages of a Section are linked by the text that flows from one to the other.
    If you want to move or delete particular page/s Insert a Section Break at the end of the page before.

  • Why are my tags deleted when I replace pages?

    Why are my tags deleted when I replace pages?

    Hi Stephanie,
    My suggested workaround: In Acrobat Pro, in the Page Thumbnails pane, select the pages that you want to replace then right click and select "Delete pages". Then, right-click the page just ahead of where the replacement pages will go, select "Insert pages", and follow the prompts. This is just the way I do it, not the only way.
    Tiger26 is making the excellent suggestion that, prior to inserting pages, encapsulate the tags for the pages to be inserted using a Section tag. This makes the post-insertion chore of dragging the tags to their proper place in the tag structure easier.

    Why are my emails aborted when im trying to send pictures?

    What is the size of the email attachments you are trying to send?  Many email providers limit the message content size some where in the 2-3 MB range, some larger some smaller.  If your photos are multile MBs that could cause the provider to reject the email.
    Try resaving a rejected photo to a smaller size/resolution and see if it goes successfully.

  • Ai PDF becomes distorted when printed from Google Docs

    For work, I create price sheets that I save as a PDF and host them on Google docs where other coworkers can access them. When documents are printed from Google Docs, they often become distorted. Sometimes images, such as a logo in the header, will be shifted to the right and bumped down an inch or so. I can usually fix this by rasterizing the objects that are moved. Has anyone else seen this before? An idea as to why this might be happening?

    This is really better suited for the Acrobat Windows support forum...
    When you repost, be sure to list details of what version(s) of Acrobat or Reader are being used by your client to print on what OS to what type of printer with what version of the driver...because they will ask!

  • Why do fonts appear distorted when...

    ...there's more than a single instance of Acrobat open at a time?
    The text was rendered to shape in Photoshop before being saved as a PDF, so the vector data would be retained despite losing editing capabilities.
    When I open the resulting PDF in acrobat, everything looks fine. The fonts are perfect, and I can zoom in to near-atom levels and everything is smooth and perfect.
    However, if I try opening it when there's already an instance of acrobat open, the fonts are distorted... jagged... almost unreadable (almost).
    Why?

    If they connect to the server with a different protocol from you (eg, AFP vs SMB), try switching to the same protocol. That may very well not solve the problem, but it's the first step.

    Filters fix the resolution, rasterizing the vector graphics. Try make it very large, the apply the filter to the containing layer and shrink the layer to be the desired size...

  • Why are cookies not deleted when I close Firefox?

    Hey,
    My problem is that I set Tools / Options / Privacy / History to "Use custom settings for history", and then under cookies I set Keep until: to "I close Firefox".
    Yet, when I close my browser and restart none of the cookies are deleted. If I save my tabs, I stay logged in on the websites that are open on the saved tabs. But even if I close the website, and then quit. And then reopen the website after launching Firefox again, I am still logged in. Whereas Firefox is set not to remember any of my usernames or passwords, so the only way this can happen is via cookies. Therefore, the cookies are not deleted. But I can also see it in the list of cookies: it's full of old stuff.
    So why are cookies not deleted despite this setting?
    Firefox has beeen pretty soft on privacy lately, and frankly I don't understand why. The possibility to have history older than X days automatically deleted has also been gone for a long time, and now this cookie setting doesn't work, either.

    Hi madperson,
    I turned this setting on a long time ago. Basically, it's one of the first things I do after installing my OS and Firefox. So there shouldn't be so many old cookies there.
    But anyways, just now I deleted all the cookies manually via Tools / Options / Privacy / Show Cookies / Remove All Cookies to be sure that all the old stuff is wiped out. And yet it still doesn't work.
    I logged in to my Gmail account (the Remember Me box ain't checked), closed the tab containing my Gmail account and then closed Firefox. After that I verified in the Task Manager that firefox.exe is indeed not running anymore. So Firefox definitely shut down properly. Then, I restarted Firefox and opened a tab, entered gmail.com, and I was still logged in, therefore the cookies were not deleted.
    I have the 10.1.101.000 version of ZoneAlarm, which as it turns out after googling it is indeed not the latest version (it was released in March 2012). The ZoneAlarm Firefox add-on that automatically comes with the firewall is disabled in Firefox.

  • Why are object alloc delays occuring outside of GC?

    Hi
    I'm currently tuning an application which has a low latency transaction requirement (sub 5ms ideally), hence we're using JRockit RT with an 8ms deterministic strategy (we're not achieving 8ms GC pause, but some time ago we experimented and found this was a good setting for us).
    I'm currently focused on addressing latency spikes which we're hoping to bring down from many hundreds of ms to the order of 10-20ms. Many of the spikes are occurring during GC activity as one would expect, but I'm currently looking at some spikes outside of GC which I'm struggling to understand the cause of. What I seem to be seeing is object alloc delays which are occuring and then being resolved, but outside of any GC activity.
    For example, see the following snippet from the log. Cmd line params include:
    -Xverbose:memory,memdbg=debug,gcpause=debug,compaction,gcreport,refobj
    -Xgcprio:deterministic
    -Xpausetarget=8ms

    The above log segment shows the tail of a GC which has just completed, then an object alloc delay for 75ms for thread "pool-1-thread-1", and then a subsequent GC kicks in much later which I believe is unrelated. I have a JRA trace from the test which shows that the object alloc latency event occurred almost a full second after the completion of the GC activity - something you can't see from the above trace which has second resolution in the timestamp.
    What I'm unsure of is exactly how the object alloc delay can occur and then be rectified by the JVM outside of a GC. I understood the main cause of an object alloc latency event was that memory wasn't available (i.e. TLA does not have enough free space and a new TLA cannot be allocated) and that a GC would be required to free up memory to allow either a new TLA to be allocated or free up enough space in an existing one. We see an "object alloc" latency delay which follows the above pattern after every GC so I'm guessing it must somehow be related to the GC which has just finished, but I can't figure out how. My hope is to eliminate this kind of latency delay completely or at least down to single-figure ms delays.
    Perhaps the deterministic GC means some memory reclaim is happening in parallel outside of the reported GC activity, but I'd be very surprised if this was the reason as surely the collector would be reporting it's activity more fully. It's been a while since I've looked this closedly at GC so I may have forgotten something.
    Any help you can provide in working out how to address such latency spikes would be very helpful!
    Thanks
    Stuart

    I think the extra time is due to the compaction of the heap (which occurs after a garbage collection).
    Note also that a very low pausetarget can stress the garbage collector to less appreciated behavior, when the application and the hardware or not appropriate. If you look at the application about 30% live data or less at collection time is something your application should strive at. Running with more live data might break the deterministic behavior (depending on the hardware of course).
    You can tune compaction with the determistic collector as follows,
    MEASUREMENT_ARGS="-Xverbose:gc,gcpause,memdbg"
    export MEASUREMENT_ARGS
    USER_MEM_ARGS="${MEASUREMENT_ARGS} -Xms512m -Xmx1000m -Xns256m -Xgcprio:deterministic -XpauseTarget=30ms -XXgcThreads:2 -XXtlaSize:min=2k,preferred=16k -XXcompactSetLimitPerObject:500 -XXinitialPointerVectorSize:40 -XXmaxPooledPointerVectorSize:8000 -XXpointerMatrixLinearSeekDistance:5"
    export USER_MEM_ARGS
    The last four options are used to tune compaction for the deterministic collector. In optimizing compaction try to reduce object references, because when a object is moved during compaction its references must be updated. So moving an object with a lot of references is more costly than moving an object with a few references.

    Thanks for your feedback and I think it's what's happening on my pages - the appearance of the scroll bar causes the space at the sides to change so it 're-sizes' which causes the slight movement.  Obviously IE and Firefox allow for this in their code but Chrome doesn't.
    My site (at www.roosterad.com) is designed with a fixed centre (the website) and elastic sides (the grey space) so it always centres on the page regardless of browser size/resolution.  Do you know if there's any way to prevent the issue without loosing this flexibility?

  • Why Glass Pane becomes visible when resizing JInternalFrame?

    This qustion has been asked _*here*_ but got no response.
    Hello,
    I've created a JFrame with JDesktop and one JInternalFrame on it. I've also added a glasspane (which draws a black circle only) to JFrame - it's invisible by default but when I resize JInternalFrame it shows up.. is this correct behavior? Why it is visible only when I resize and diappears when I release mouse button after resize? How I can make it invisible when resizing JInternalFrame? (Is removing JFrame's glasspane only solution?)import java.awt.Graphics;
    import javax.swing.JDesktopPane;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JInternalFrame;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    public class RunMe extends JFrame {
         public RunMe() {
              this.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              this.setBounds(10, 10, 800, 600);
              JDesktopPane desktop = new JDesktopPane();
              JInternalFrame testJIF = new JInternalFrame("test", true, true, true, true);
              testJIF.setBounds(10, 10, 100, 100);
              desktop.add(testJIF);
              testJIF.setVisible(true);
              this.add(desktop);
              this.setGlassPane(new MyGlassPane());
              this.setVisible(true);

              public MyGlassPane() {
                   this.setOpaque(false);
              @Override
              protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
                   g.fillOval(0, 0, 100, 100);
                   super.paintComponent(g);
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              new RunMe();
    }

    First of all, thank you for being upfront about cross posting.
    Whether this is "correct" behavior or not may be debatable, but it's certainly expected behavior. From the source of javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicInternalFrameUI.BorderListener.mousePressed (towards the end of the method)Container c = frame.getTopLevelAncestor();
    if (c instanceof RootPaneContainer) {
       Component glassPane = ((RootPaneContainer)c).getGlassPane();
       glassPane.setVisible(true);
       glassPane.setCursor(s);
    }The glass pane is made visible to show the resize cursor.
    It's set back to visible(false) in finishMouseReleased() which is invoked from mouseRelease and elsewhere (e;g; from cancelResize which is invoked from windowLostFocus)
    Looks like you can't use the glass pane for whatever you had planned, the Swing designers have already used it for something else. Or this could be a workaround, depending on exactly what it is you're trying to do.@Override
    protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
       super.paintComponent(g);
       if (this.isOpaque()) {
          g.fillOval(0, 0, 100, 100);
    }You could also declare and use a boolean flag, rather than using isOpaque (which may happen to be set/reset somewhere else in the Swing code ;-)
