Why are pics taken with the onboard camera so lousy?

is it the lens? it's certainly not the 2MP resolution - i have an old canon elph 2.0MP that takes crystal-clear shots that are gorgeous. but when i shoot with my iphone - especially in lower light situations, everything is grainy and washed out. it's as bad as my old RAZR 1MP phone cam.
do you think this is a software fixable issue, or is it a hardware thing?

I've been snapping pictures for a long time and have to say I'm very impressed with the iPhone's capabilities. I spent many years in the photography business, behind the camera and behind the counter. I have not had this much fun with a camera since Polaroid introduced the SX-70 back in the olden days. It has its quirks and I embrace them, they give an other-worldly surrealism to the image when they occur. Here is the link to a few I posted on Sony's site:

I also have others that I've done some extreme photoshop actions on my Flickr site under my MikeKeyW account.
Given the small size and shape along with a nontraditional method to take the picture it is more important than ever to remember the basics of how to take a good picture.
Hold the camera steady, keep the sun to your back, make sure the lens is clean and brace yourself and the camera when shooting in other than bright daylight.

I agree with gwforeman -- usually a sign of low-light situation, forcing the camera to compensate by increasing gain which, conveniently, rhymes with "grain." It's the digital equivalent of loading a "faster" film (800ASA vs 100ASA). The benefit is that you can obtain a discernible image under low-lighting conditions but the trade-off is that your image quality suffers. Try the suggestion of taking pictures outside under daylight conditions (best-case scenario) and see if your image quality improves.

LR is putting different descriptions of the same lens, used with the same camera, in the metadata of photos taken on the same occasion.
For example:
The following two images were taken with the same camera and lens.
They were imported at the same time into LR by copying.
The only difference in treatment is that the first was an untouched out-of camera jpeg, the second had been flipped using Preview on the Mac.
The one that was flipped has a full description of the lens, the one that was untouched has an abbreviated description.
When you show the file in the Finder and read the metadata using Preview, the correct full lens description appears.

Suddenly non I-Phone users cannot view videos anymore, they can hear the sound, but no audio. Iphone users are having issues viewing the videos too. This all started with the 6.0 update. Please fix it or tell me how to restore my phone back to the previous update, it is quite annoying.

It sounds like you are getting some audio issues with the included Ear Buds when they are plugged in. I wanted to recommend these troublehsooting steps from the article named:

3. Disconnect and Restart
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible. Restart iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad by turning it off and then back on. When the Home screen reappears, reconnect the accessory.
4. Isolate
Isolate the issue to the accessory, if possible. Or, if available, try to reproduce the issue with another identical or similar accessory.
Examples:
If there is static coming from the left audio channel when using headphones, try connecting the headphones to a stereo, or try connecting a different set of headphones to the device.
If the device is not syncing when connected to the dock, try connecting it directly to the computer using the Dock Connector to USB Cable, or try another USB port.
6. Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to its factory default state. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.

Pictures taken with the instant camera short cut on the iPod touch 4G do not show up in the camera roll

My girlfriend has an iPod touch 4G. She recently installed iOS 5 and is now having problems with the camera. When she takes a picture after launching the camera from the lock screen, the photo never appears in her camera roll. The photo appears in camera roll preview, but not in the camera roll itself. Anyone else having this problem or know of any fixes?
UPDATE: My iPhone 3GS appears to do the same thing.

Why are emails downloaded with the subject and from address different from what is actually in the email?

The subject and from address listed in the message pane are totally different from what is in the actual email, viewed either in the preview pane or when the email is opened. The emails are correct when viewed online. For example:
Email subject A from Sender A - email A

After downloading to Thunderbird:
Email subject A from Sender A - email A
Email subject B from Sender B - email B
Email subject C from Sender C - email A *** Subject and Sender for C but is actually email A
This started happening within the past month and appears to be random. Sometimes everything is correct. But more often there are a few that exhibit the above behavior. I have multiple email address downloading from the same domain but this problem seems to occur ostly with my main email account.

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder.

Is there a way to view image numbers in iPad photos, either of images taken with the iPad or of images copied into Photo (or camera roll) on the iPad?

Is there a way to view image numbers (metadata) on the iPad Photo app, distinguishing those taken with the internal camera from those downloaded from external camera or copied from an email?

sberman: My iMac is running iTunes 11.0.2 already. As well, the Photos tab in the iTunes window shows that "Sync Photos from" is un-checked. And in the box to the right of it is the greyed-out empty folder that I previously synced to in order to remove photos from the Camera Roll.
Ralph9430: I did a reset (Home + Sleep) earlier when I was trying everything I could think of. I have also re-synced a couple of times. No luck.

If you asking me, I would suggest to additonally use a second storage service which also allows you to store your pictures over the 30 days period. I personally use Dropbox with automatic upload for that (https://db.tt/cMEgDUFZ), but there are also other storage services like Flickr for example.

I have tried looking on the internet for advice on deleting videos from my iphone 4s camera (not downloaded videos) that I have taken myself, and have not found a way to do this. Videos and photos taken with the iPhone are stored in the Camera Roll in the photos app. In the Photoe app find the Camera Roll and use the screen that has all the small thumbnails of photos and videos. Tap on Select at the top of the screen, select the videos to be deleted, tap on Trash.
To delete photos and videos copied to the iPhone by syncing with your computer you need to do another sync. But before clicking on Sync or Apply go to the Photos tab in iTunes on your computer and deselect the unwanted albums. When you finally click on sync or Apply the deselected albums will be deleted from your iPhone but they will remain on your computer.
