Why are some of my pages blank when I export to PDF from InDesign?

I have a fairly large InDesign book that I've been trying to export to PDF unsuccessfully. There are lots of images and te
xt in the book and half export fine and the other half don't. When I export the files individually, they export fine. Any advice why the book won't export correctly?

I wouldn't expect either conversion or working froma server to affect the export (though working with your ID files directly on the sever is a bad practice -- big potential for disaster due to a network error causing unrecoverable file damage).
First, do a "Save as" to remnove any unneeded old undo inofrmation from the file and reduce its size, then copy it to your local machine and try to export. If you still have a problem, try emptying your temp folders.

Why are some of my iBooks blank when I open them on my macbook Air?

I bought Jim Cramer's book on ibooks today. I can read it on my phone, and it appears in iBooks on my Macbook Air, but when I open it on my Macbook Air, it's blank. I then noticed that some of my opther books are also blank here, though not all of them.

Blue messages are iMessages; green are regular sms.

Someone was playing with my acrobat distiller a few days ago to view some artwork in a particular way, is it something to do with this and anyone know what they may have changed. I have never had a problem before, also eps files still show, its just jpg that dont.

Distiller has nothing to do with Export.
First, make sure all the links are up to date. Second, in the Advanced section of the Export dialog, make sure none of the boxes under OPI are checked. Third, stop trying to view the PDF in Preview if that's what you are doing.

You need to try exporting the first half of the book.
If that exports ok then export the other half of the book.
Whatever half it fails on - keep dividing the book in half to find the culprit page or pages.
For example if your book is 128 pages long:
1. Export pages 1 - 63
2. If these Fail to Export then
3. try exporting1-32
4. If these Fail to Export
5. then try exporting1-16
If it doesn't fail (step 2)
Then export pages 64-128
and 64-90 etc.
until you find the pages causing the issues.

I don't use the latest InDesign, but in the past ID's options for exporting to PDF did not allow setting how a PDF should be viewed once exported. However, these settings can be adjusted in Acrobat through Preferences: check out Page Layout and Zoom under Page Display.

Is there a page size limit when exporting a pdf from InDesign?

My indd file is 201x40 inches with a 1.5 inch slug. When I export to pdf I get this message, "The document page size exceeds the page size range supported in PDF files. Exported pages will be resized to fit within PDF limits."

Although the PDF spec mentions that it's feasible to create a PDF as large as 15,000,000 inches in either direction, 200 x 200 inches is Distiller’s limit for PostScript. It’s based on the Windows printer driver limitation.
If I read the quote below correctly, the maximum page size is 15 million inches (381 km).
"This is from the PDF Reference 1.6:
177. In PDF versions earlier than PDF 1.6, the size of the default user space unit is fixed at 172 inch. In Acrobat viewers earlier than version 4.0, the minimum allowed page size is 72 by 72 units in default user space (1 by 1 inch); the maximum is 3240 by 3240 units (45 by 45 inches). Acrobat (10.1.3) crashes when exporting a pdf from InDesign (7.5.2)

So every once and a while I export a file to pdf from InDesign and Acrobat crashes. Sometimes it doesn't crash until I reduce file size. It always happens when it is actually saving the file. Usually I am overwriting a file with a newer version but not always and either way I get a crash. I copied my crash report below. Please help. This reduces my productivity greatly.

Why are some of my pages viewing blank when opened in one Adobe Reader and fine in another?

Why does my PDF file that I created in Adobe Illustrator view fine in my Adobe Reader but some of the pages are viewing blank for my customer who lives in Australia. This is the first time I have encountered the problem and I am at a loss how to fix the problem. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated. Is this a setting problem or a glitch in her version she is using Adobe Reader 9? I deal with customers all around the world and need to figure this out so it does not happen again.

Thanks so much for your resply. I am happy to say that the problem has been fixed by my customer updating her version of Adobe Reader 9 to the latest version. I had sent her a few suggestions on how to try to fix the problem including that one from info I had read on the forum etc.. and that was the solution that worked. I am so relieved that I was able to fix the problem and to answer your question the blank pages were only graphics no text but they were the only pages that the graphics took up the whole page. I thought that was strange and had her change a setting in preferences for printing large images a solution I read in the forum but it did not work.

Why are some of my pages centering themselves (vertically and horizontally) after I select the "Shrink document to avoid overwriting..." option under Add Headers and Footers?

I'm working in Adobe Acrobat X Pro. I added header and footers through Adobe. I needed to select the "Shrink document to avoid overwriting the document's text and graphics" feature under the "Appearance Options..." option within the "Add Header and Footer" window. Some of the pages in my document that only had a few lines of text on them centered themselves (vertically and horizontally). How can I prevent that from happening?

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Why are some albums not showing up when I download them into ITunes?

I download from a CD into my ITunes, but when I sync, the album doesn't show up to transfer to my phone.

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
1. Right click images you want to share.
2. Select Export version.
3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.

How Can I disable page scrolling when creating an interactive PDF using InDesign?

I'm attempting to create an interactive PDF portfolio with links from the homepage to gallery pages and projects etc, but it seems useless if I can't stop the PDF pages from scrolling? Can anyone help?
I have InDesign CS5.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

There is nothing you can do to prevent a viewer from navigating on their own through a PDF. One method would be to have the PDF open in Full Screen mode, this hides the navigation tab. But a viewer can use their arrow keys to go page to page, ignoring the links within the PDF. And the viewer can hit the esc key to go back to normal view. Another option would be to use a swf export, indstead of pdf, but seriously depends on how you plan to distribute this portfolio.

Is there a way to automatically set the file name in Acrobat Properties when exporting a PDF from Indesign?

When I used Quark to make a PDF, the title area in the PDF was automatically populated with the file name, there in the properties tab. We like use this area to confirm file names of original files, so we can keep track of drafts, (in case the file name of the PDF is changed, which our boss often does). Is there any way to set up InDesign to do the same?

You exported to PDF and changed the file name in the export dialog to a different one from the document name presented there the first time you exported that document. And in exports after that the new name will be presented in the dialog instead of the name of the document.
What you can do against that?
1. First time you want to export: Save before the document is exported. And do not save after it's exported with a new file name.
2. After the new file name is already there in the export dialog:
Type in the document name in the dialog. Export. Or abort after chosing a export preference. Save. Check again, if the document's file name is in the export dialog. If yes, procede like in suggestion #1. If not do a full export with the document's file name, save and then procede with suggestion #1.
