Why are songs halting playback?

I'm having a regular problem in iTunes where songs will stop playing with 1 or 2 seconds left til the end. It doesn't "Stop," in that the Play button changes to the Pause or Stop buttons, it just hangs up and doesn't play any further. If I hit the forward arrow it jumps to the next song just fine, though.
As far as I can tell, it only does it in shuffle mode. What's causing this?

I left out the fact that this happens when I'm broadcasting to my Airport, and I just realized this may be the key. The playback just stopped, and when I skipped to the next song, the display window said something about connecting to the Airport network.
Could blips in my connection strength cause iTunes to stop the playback?

    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

  • Why are songs greyed out in my itunes

Why are songs greyed out on iTunes?  The songs will play within iTunes, but will not sync with my iPod Classic 160G.  How do I correct this situation?

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.

  • After syncing my music onto my iphone5, why are songs grayed out and not playable

after syncing my music onto my iphone5, why are songs grayed out and not playable?

If you are syncing music to the iPhone automatically, you won't be able to drag and drop tracks on to the iPhone and the music will be grayed out.
You'll have to Manually Manage the music.
Configure iPhone, iPad, or iPod for manual management
If you have iTunes 7 or later*, follow these instructions:
Connect the device to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select iPhone, iPad, or iPod in the Devices list.
Click the Summary tab and select "Manually manage music and videos".
    Click Apply.
Even when you have enabled manual management, you can still sync some content automatically. Select any content tab, such as Video, to enable automatic syncing for that type of content.

  • Why are songs from the same album being separated in my library?

My library is currently sorted by "Album by Artist." I have 5 songs from a particular album and the library is grouping only 4 of them together, while singling out and listing 1 song separately, just beneath the other 4 songs. The text in the Artist, Album Artist, and Album fields are exactly identical for all 5 songs, so why is 1 being singled out? I've tried quitting and restarting iTunes (version 9.1.1) and this doesn't solve the problem.

If you read the Grouping tracks into albums article you will see that this technique is just one among many and only works in particular circumstances. There will, no doubt, be other steps that you need to take to merge the tracks into a single cover in this case.

  • Why are songs duplicated when I drag and drop them?

I am using iTunes 7.02, not that that matter, since the problem has happened in previous versions too....
Anytime I drag a folder of songs into the iTunes window to add them to the library (i.e. from a folder on the desktop) the songs are all added to the library, but they are duplicated (two of each song, identical and both playable).
Why does this happen and what can I do to stop it? Is there some simple setting that I have wrong in the preferences or something?

I think the reason OE shows the original date is because each message is stored as a single file, whereas TB stores all messages in a folder in one file, an mbox file. So, when you save a message as a single eml file, its 'date modified' is the date the eml file was first written from the mbox file.
You may find the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ ImportExportTools] add-on useful as it lets you add the date of the email to the eml file name when the email is exported ('Save selected messages' from the message(s) right-click menu).

  • Why are songs disappearing?

I am only an occasional iTunes user.  It is installed on my Windows PC.  Over the years I have bought some albums or downloaded songs from my CDs.  I've recently noticed that my albums are still in my library, but some of them have lost songs.  In some cases, the song title is there, but iTunes says it can't find the song when I want to play it.  I'm not sure why.  I have not tried to manipulate the folders or anything.  My knowledge of iTunes is very limited, so I just open iTunes, open my library, and select an album or song to listen to.
I would include the software iTunes version number, but I don't know how to find it.
Is there a way to have iTunes build me a new Library and round up all the songs that are on my PC?  Also, is there a way to remove duplicate songs if I do this?
    Thanks,
    Dave

I get the exact same behavior. It is maddening. I find if I use the "sources" function, it happens more. I ended up wresting with it via the album view and it seemed better, but much less convenient. I've had this occur on the iPod app on my iPad, as well as on my iPod touch. Editting playlists is very flaky.
In addition to seeing this, I just had the playlist that I spent a good 30 minutes making, working with the disappearing bug, itself disappear after two days. The whole playlist vanished.

  • Why are songs randomly disappearing from iTunes?

Every once in while, I turn on iTunes and find that it cannot "locate" songs.  When I go into Finder, the songs are gone -- they've completely disappeared. And it's completely random -- a few songs from a number of albums, a couple of albums completely, and single songs here and there. And it doesn't matter how I got the music -- whether  I've downloaded from the iTunes store, others websites, or my own CDs.  Using an iMac 10.7.4, iTunes 10.  Can someone explain why this is happening? It also happened with my old MacBook Pro.

My son (a former Apple Genius) finally figured out what was happening to my movies. A recent upgrade of iTunes seems to have a new feature that determines if the movie was purchased or gotten from another source. When the Add To Library option is used, if the new purchased movie was in the Movie folder, it is added to iTunes and remains in the same folder location. A movie from another source, if in the Movie folder to begin with, is moved by iTunes into the Home Videos folder in the iTunes Library. If you prefer to keep all of your movies in the Movie folder, which seems like the logical thing to do, select the movie title in iTunes and then right click to Get Info. Then select the Options tab at the top of the window, Change the Media Type to Movies - this will change the library file folder location where the file is stored and also change the location where the file is found in your AppleTV.

  • Why are songs I bought not listed in the purchased link

some of the songs that I've bought from itunes are listed in the purchased section, available for me to listen to, but not all.  is there something I can do about this?

yes, they were under the same account. I am looking at my songs purchased on the itunes store and it says 21.  when I click on the little little "purchased" link on the left hand side under "ping" it only has eightteen songs.

  • Why are songs I've accessed in the past no longer accessible?

When I sync my iPod to my computer, I get the error message, "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because they were not found."  Where did they go?  I haven't deleted anything from my account.  I have my full library list on my computer but only about half sync to my iPod.  When I go to listen to a song that did not sync to my iPod on my computer, it is not available either, even though it is listed in my library.  Any help would be appreciated!

It's not a good idea to post images that include your account id on public forums.
Have you checked to see if the tracks are hidden from the Purchased link : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919 ?
If not then have you tried logging out and back into your iTunes account ?

  • Why are songs missing from albums I downloaded

When I try to listen to some albums songs are missing! Do I have to download the entire cd again?

This is a long-standing topic on the forum.  I've been seeing it for years and years.  I have seen it happen maybe twice with my iTunes and I am still using iTunes 7.5.  However, there is nothing definitively pointing to to it being a specific issue with iTunes.  In the past I have created and deleted hundreds of tracks in a day and who knows if my computer's operating system or iTunes slipped up somewhere, or even if I did in selecting files for deletion.  The other question is, is the media file itself also missing or is it just the entry in iTunes that is gone, or is the link broken?  With something this vague it's like going to a car mechanic and asking them to troubleshoot a "strange noise" that happens maybe a few seconds for every 20 hours on the road and not being sure where it originates, nor if it has something to do with the road conditions, or the fuel in the car, or the engine, or the tires, etc.
Keep backups.  The two or three times it has happened to me in the last 8 years the original file had gone missing but the entry was still in iTunes (broken link).  I periodically run one of Dougscripts Applescripts to check my library for broken links and I was able to rescue the file from my backup before I overwrote the backup.  I try to do this each time I backup my library just to make sure I don't overwrite a good copy with a bad copy.  Of course this won't work if the entry has also been deleted in the library file but I manually manage my library and this has the mixed benefit of iTunes not automatically deleting the media file when I (or it?) delete the entry in the library database.

  • Why are songs greyed-out in my iPhone's sync queue?

I fired up iTunes for the first time on a new computer and plugged-in a 2 week-old iPhone 4s to sync about 250 or so songs that were pre-existing on the computer.
The music is not purchased through iTunes; merely ripped from CDs ages ago. It's music that existed on my prior iPhone (4) with no problems.
Now, the music won't sync to my new iPhone. It shows up in iTunes, on the device's song list - but greyed-out. It appears to be in queue to transfer, but it won't sync. I have purchased music on my phone that I downloaded via wifi that works fine...
Any ideas? This is intensely frustrating.

I forgot to mention that when I look at the playlist that has been tranferred to the iPhone all the ones that won't play and are greyed out have a sync symbol next to the check mark.

  • Why are songs separated from the album on my phone but on the album on my laptop?

I bought two singles off of the new Eminem album before it came out, so I had to change all the info and all that so they'd show up on the same album when it came out. But when I try to transfer it to my iPhone the two songs still come up as singles and not apart of the album.

Turn on airdrop on both devices and transfer photos that way.
If the photos are in photostream on one device they should appear on all devices using the same iCloud account. It might take a little while for them to copy over though.
