Why are songs missing with new Itunes 11

Sign me up with all the others that hates the new Itunes update!  We should have been warned that this was not the usual update.  Anyway, I've spent a lifetime loading songs from cds, albums (yes albums!) as well as purchasing songs from Itunes.  It seems I'm missing a lot of songs or at least can't view them.  They seem to be all the non-Itune purchased stuff.  Is my only choice to revert back to 10.7?

The new iTunes 11 is terrible. Just horrible. If you're looking at your albums on the new "Album" view, it will ONLY group all of your songs together if either the "Artist Name" is IDENTICAL for all the songs, or you've gone in and manually changed the "Album Artist" to be IDENTICAL for all the songs. So, if you have a compilation album (like a movie soundtrack) with different artists for every track, iTunes 11 will stupidly break up your album into MULTIPLE ALBUMS on "Album View", one album per artist. This is just ridiculous. It should respect the title of the album, regardless of what the "Artist" on each track is. And it shouldn't force us to type in the "Album Artist" for every song... it should just act the way that human beings on the planet expect it to act! In the meantime, your only solution is to type in a unified "Album Artist" for every song on the album. That will group your albums back together again.

  • Why are songs missing from albums I downloaded

When I try to listen to some albums songs are missing! Do I have to download the entire cd again?

This is a long-standing topic on the forum.  I've been seeing it for years and years.  I have seen it happen maybe twice with my iTunes and I am still using iTunes 7.5.  However, there is nothing definitively pointing to to it being a specific issue with iTunes.  In the past I have created and deleted hundreds of tracks in a day and who knows if my computer's operating system or iTunes slipped up somewhere, or even if I did in selecting files for deletion.  The other question is, is the media file itself also missing or is it just the entry in iTunes that is gone, or is the link broken?  With something this vague it's like going to a car mechanic and asking them to troubleshoot a "strange noise" that happens maybe a few seconds for every 20 hours on the road and not being sure where it originates, nor if it has something to do with the road conditions, or the fuel in the car, or the engine, or the tires, etc.
Keep backups.  The two or three times it has happened to me in the last 8 years the original file had gone missing but the entry was still in iTunes (broken link).  I periodically run one of Dougscripts Applescripts to check my library for broken links and I was able to rescue the file from my backup before I overwrote the backup.  I try to do this each time I backup my library just to make sure I don't overwrite a good copy with a bad copy.  Of course this won't work if the entry has also been deleted in the library file but I manually manage my library and this has the mixed benefit of iTunes not automatically deleting the media file when I (or it?) delete the entry in the library database.

  • New PC, worried about losing songs/pics with new iTunes library

    NEED HELP!
I have the SAME PC - I changed from Windows Vista to Windows XP.
While I had Windows Vista, I put songs I had on my PC into iTunes to then add to my iPhone 4. I also have the iTunes purchased songs on my iPhone. One day I accidentally deleted my purchased songs from my phone, on my phone and just had the list of songs from my PC on my phone to listen to. At this point I was beating myself up because I thought I lost all the songs I paid for. I changed the Windows version on my PC. Downloaded iTunes, signed in, connected my iPhone and was able to get all my purchased songs back on my phone, whew...awesome!
Now, I am wanting to sync items from my phone to the iTunes library on the Windows XP version. I have already did the "authorize this computer" and got a message that I can only authorize 5 computers and now that I have authorized 2, I have 3 left...funny cause I only have 1 computer. But I still can't get my iTunes to reflect all the songs from my phone to my library on the PC. iPhone seems to sync to new PC, but when I try to upgrade to iOS 5.0, I get a question box that says I;m trying to upgrade to another library and if I agree to this it will erase everythign on my iPhone....sure don't want to do that. I don't want to loose the songs I have already purchased. I don't care if I loose the songs not purchased from iTunes that I had placed on my phone from my music files PC when it had the Windows Vista.
I just want to be able to use my iTunes the way I did before I changed from Windows Vista to Windows XP and not erase everything...I dont want to loose my contacts/pictures/apps/purchased songs from my phone. Please help!

How can i do this on a new pc without losing all the music, photos, contacts and apps etc from my phone.
First, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.
    Then follow the instructions here.

  • Why are songs randomly disappearing from iTunes?

Every once in while, I turn on iTunes and find that it cannot "locate" songs.  When I go into Finder, the songs are gone -- they've completely disappeared. And it's completely random -- a few songs from a number of albums, a couple of albums completely, and single songs here and there. And it doesn't matter how I got the music -- whether  I've downloaded from the iTunes store, others websites, or my own CDs.  Using an iMac 10.7.4, iTunes 10.  Can someone explain why this is happening? It also happened with my old MacBook Pro.

My son (a former Apple Genius) finally figured out what was happening to my movies. A recent upgrade of iTunes seems to have a new feature that determines if the movie was purchased or gotten from another source. When the Add To Library option is used, if the new purchased movie was in the Movie folder, it is added to iTunes and remains in the same folder location. A movie from another source, if in the Movie folder to begin with, is moved by iTunes into the Home Videos folder in the iTunes Library. If you prefer to keep all of your movies in the Movie folder, which seems like the logical thing to do, select the movie title in iTunes and then right click to Get Info. Then select the Options tab at the top of the window, Change the Media Type to Movies - this will change the library file folder location where the file is stored and also change the location where the file is found in your AppleTV.

Why are songs greyed out on iTunes?  The songs will play within iTunes, but will not sync with my iPod Classic 160G.  How do I correct this situation?

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

  • How do u get your songs onto a new itunes library???????????????

MY WHOLE COMPUTER SYSSTEM HAD 2 GET WIPPED, I STILL HAVE MY SONGS ONMY IPOD BUT I CANT GET MY SONGS ONTO THE NEW ITUNES I JUST DOWNLOADED. HOW DO I GET THE SONGS FROM MY IPOD ONTO MY COMPUTER????????????????? PLEASE HELP ME

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Anonymous people are playing around with my iTunes. How to stop? Help?

okay since 6 hours ago some creepy people are playing around with my iTunes. I believe its people who live around my building. I have my iTunes on and this anonymous person is playing controlling my library by changing the songs to the ones that the like. I don't know if this has anything to do with iPod or iPhone remote applications. Shouldn't they ask for passwords if they want to get into my library? But it's not!
I do turn on "Share Library" but I tried something: Usually when you press the red exit X, shouldnt they say "Some other users are on your library, are you sure you want to quit?" But it doesnt ask that.
I am on wireless and when I turn off my wireless it doesn't happen. Nobody disturbs my library. I recorded some "Quit doing it" audios and put it into my library but they're still doing it.
I don't know if it's a virus (I need to get a new antivirus). I dont think it's virus though because it also happened to my sister's laptop. She closed her iTunes so the anonymous wont bother anymore. They're still doing it right now to my laptop!!!
I asked this question on Yahoo! Answers and a person said something about my wireless getting hacked. What should I do????
How do I make this stop??? HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please give me step by step instruction because I fail at fixing my computer.

Anyone hacking your wireless would just obtain access to your Internet connection, not to your computer.
If someone is actually changing your library, then they almost certainly have access to your computer itself. The Sharing built into iTunes only allows someone to play your shared playlists; other users have no ability to make any changes. It's possible that someone is connecting via iPhone Remote; go into the iTunes -> Devices preference and click the "forget all remotes" button. If someone managed to connect Remote, that should cut them off.
Otherwise, it's probably not an iTunes problem as such but rather that someone's hacked into your computer. I can't give you step-by-step instructions since there are many possibilities as to how someone might have obtained access to your system. But I'd suggest you start by making sure that you don't have Windows file sharing turned on; if you do turn it off for all shared volumes/folders. The same would apply to Windows remote desktop; you want to make sure that's turned off.
If none of that helps, you'll probably need to take this problem up on a web site oriented to Windows support since it's, as I said, most probable that someone is hacking into your computer.
    Good luck.

My ipod touch 3rd generation OS  5.1.1 (9B206) will not sync with new Itunes version 12.0.1.26. Can anyone help

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

  • Why are lyrics not viewable in itunes in the same way as on the ipod?

Why are lyrics not viewable in itunes in the same way as on the ipod? In itunes all you get is "Get Info" then "Lyrics" and that screen then locks itunes until you close it. Inflexible, annoying and surely unnecessary?

All songs need Album, Artist and title.
Also, look under Artist -> Compilations.

  • After syncing my music onto my iphone5, why are songs grayed out and not playable

after syncing my music onto my iphone5, why are songs grayed out and not playable?

If you are syncing music to the iPhone automatically, you won't be able to drag and drop tracks on to the iPhone and the music will be grayed out.
You'll have to Manually Manage the music.
Configure iPhone, iPad, or iPod for manual management
If you have iTunes 7 or later*, follow these instructions:
Connect the device to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select iPhone, iPad, or iPod in the Devices list.
Click the Summary tab and select "Manually manage music and videos".
    Click Apply.
Even when you have enabled manual management, you can still sync some content automatically. Select any content tab, such as Video, to enable automatic syncing for that type of content.
