Why are the gamma settings different when I watch Final Cut projects on Quicktime?

I added a Gamma Correction filter to my video clips in Final Cut Express 4, and after exporting the project into a Quicktime file, the video shows up brighter and washed out in my Quicktime 7 player. I've even checked the box in Quicktime Preferences to enable Final Cut Studio color, and the video still looks brighter than it should be. What can I do to fix this?
Here is a side-by-side view of the Canvas on left and Quicktime on right.
I am sending this to someone as they will upload it, so to prevent any possible mishaps, my other question is are the settings from what we see from Final Cut the official one? Or is what I'm seeing on Quicktime what I will be seeing if I were to watch it streaming from a website?

It's a huge issue that has existed for years. Legacy QT used to have the Gamma set to 1.8 but since to 2.2. FCP however has no way (other than adding another effect) to adjust this. It does only affect some codecs however. Adobe After Effects has a check box in the project settings for 'Legacy Gamma in Quicktime'.
ProRes422 has a button for Automatic Gamma. One day they might add it to all the codecs - who knows.
In the meantime you could just add a gamma curves effect and adjust it to be 0.3 darker.

This forum is for Apple's defunct office suite 'AppleWorks' - since the word count is not in the places you mention I assume you are talking about Microsoft Word? Though it's just possible someone in this forum might also use Word and know the answer, you would stand a higher chance of getting an answer in Microsoft's own forums. You could also try asking in the forum applicable to your operating system - Lion, Mavericks or whatever - on the reasonably chance of finding someone familiar with Word.

I've just started using the App Tabs. I think this feature could be handy but why are the sites not updated when I start Firefox. Now I have to manually update the site which is somewhat of a downer. Does any of you know where I'm going wrong?

To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

Why are the wrong paragraphs included when I do a Save As PDF

I'm using FrameMaker 12 and Acrobat Pro XI. When I do a 'Save As PDF' from a book and select the bookmarks I want, and arrange their hierarchy etc. Acrobat includes paragraphs formats that I did not select. For example, it seems to include a random selection of TOC entries, which I DID NOT select to be included.
I've gone back and double-checked that all paragraphs have the correct formats, but it keeps happening.
Also, once I've generated the PDF, the PDF settings I chose don't seem to save correctly. In other words, every time I do a 'Save as PDF' I have to select the paragraphs formats I want to include as bookmarks again; it seems to have saved some of them, but not all of them.
Any ideas?

The bookmark information (i.e. PDF Setup information) is saved with each file/book, so if you've saved the file, these settings should also be saved. Try to use the Format > Document > PDF Setup... option to set things th way you want in the book and then save the book. Are the correct settings now maintained the next time you open the book and need to create a PDF?

Why are the same pictures different in the timeline?

I imported from internet (google/pics) a numbre of stills to use in a movie. They seems to be of the same quality by expending them before I imported them. After importing some of them stays very sharp in browser and timeline/viewer also during playing, others become unsharp as soon as the are being played.
Questions:
1. What am I doing wrong, what to do or prevent?
2. where can you determin and resize the aspect ratio of importing pics without disturbing the picture by importing? Is resizing by editting (timeline; distortion) the only way?

1. Try rendering the images in the Timeline.
2. You can find the basic information about still images (or any other file) by using the "Get Info" selection when you right-click on the file's icon. Or use any still image editing application such as Photoshop.

Why are the APN settings unavailable with 3.1.3 and 4.0?

I have an officially unlocked iPhone 3GS. The APN settings menu was available for editing with pre 3.1.3 firmware but has disappeared with 3.1.3 and 4.0. I have spoken with Apple where I was told to restore the phone to defaults and start over, this didn't work. The Apple support papers distinctly say that the APN settings should be available for edit with an unlocked phone OR when the telephone provider allows it. As this is an unlocked phone the APN should be available. I use the phone with 2 SIM cards, 1 AT&T and 1 Telstra (Australia) card because of travel hence having the APN available is a great help. The 2 other phones in our family have suffered the same fate so this is obviously a firmware problem, not hardware.
Any ideas on our to get the APN settings menu back?

I am very interested in finding out about this - I am in Canada, and here Apple is selling a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS. I just posted this as a question... You can keep an eye on my thread also...

This summer, I was in east europe with my unlocked google nexus one, and was able to happily use local SIM cards - to enable 3G internet functionality, I just needed to configure APN settings as per carrier spec, and - voila, Internet etc...
This whole experience has left me with the idea, that for a factory-unlocked phone to be Internet 3g functional, it needs the ability/menu choices to set up custom APN settings.
Apple Canada is offering an iPhone 3GS (8gb) that is factory unlocked, but unless one is able to set/change APN settings, it's kind of useless for internet...
Does anyone know - does the Canadian Factory Unlocked Apple iPhone 3GS have the APN settings menu? My own Rogers-locked iPhone 3GS does NOT have the ability to set APN settings... Is the ability to view/set APN settings controlled by the carrier (whose sim card I inserted into the iPhone?)??

Why are the aps grayed out when syncing my iPhone?

When trying to sync my wife's iphone with my iMac, the aps on her iphone are grayed out and the phone will not sync,
even though all the aps on her phone are the same as the ones in my iMac.

Why does the file size change when put into an iDVD project? And problems with dual layer discs...

I exported a short video of mine from Final Cut Express and the size of the file came out to 7.3 GB. When I put it into an iDVD project, it says that the file is only 800 MB. I tried just burning it onto a dual layer disc anyway to see if it might still burn at the original file size, but the disc came out unusable for some reason, and obviously hadn't been burned anywhere near full-capacity. So, I tried it again, and the exact same thing happened.
I guess my first question is: why is iDVD changing the size of the file? I want the quality to be the best it can be, so keeping it at 7.3 GB as opposed to 800 MB is rather important.
Secondly, why did the dual layer discs come out unusable? I've burned single layer discs before and they haven't been an issue. Also, I know for a fact that the drive can burn dual layer discs, so that isn't the issue.

Guessing here but it looks like you edited/exported an SD/DV sequence of about 30 min in FCE. DVD needs to be MPEG-2 so iDVD compresses the original file down to the size that you report.

The quality will be what the MPEG-2 compression and the software allow for. MPEG-2 is DVD standard .... there's no way around that.

Guessing again but it would seem that you burned a Data DVD instead of a Video DVD which would be unusable by a set-top player. As I said above you can't get around DVD standards.
If by any chance your video was HD originally you can try to go the Blu-Ray route using Roxio Toast or FCS 3 (discontinued) or FCP X. You will also need a Blu-Ray burner.

Why are my layers appearing different when previewing them?

I have put my layer in a certain spot with an image in it and when i preview it, they appear in a different place. Does anyone know why this could be?

I think you should seriously rethink using APDivs as a primary layout method. Use CSS default positioning (which is no positioning at all). Then align elements with CSS Margins, Padding and Floats.

Apple does not replace screens and your iPad is clearly out of warranty, not that accidental damage would be covered anyway. If you want to try to have your iPad fixed, there are 3rd party repair centers you can try. In your google search bar type the following:

Put your city in the "xxxx" for example, "tampa, fl"
There will likely be some options you could investigate.
Or, you could sell your iPad, even damaged to Gazelle.com and get yourself a shiny new iPad. And if you do, make sure you add AppleCare+ for $99. This not only increases your Apple technical support for two full years, but would get you up to two iPad replacements at $49 each.

Why are the letters so big when I go on AOL using Firefox?

When I log on AOL using Firefox, the letters look big and bold.

Is the page zoomed?
You can adjust the zoom level of a site using the buttons on the application menu (the one with the "3-bar" button): the - button reduces the zoom level, the + buttons enlarges it, and the center button resets it to 100%.
Zoom also can be adjusted with keyboard shortcuts or a the scroll wheel on a mouse, which sometimes explains how it got zoomed in the first place. More info: [[Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages]].
Another possible issue is whether Firefox is downloading a custom fonts. Many sites now prescribe a custom font which Firefox needs to download. If that is blocked, a standard font is substituted, and if these are not a close match, the results can be unattractive.
To see what font is being used, you can use the Inspector tool. Right-click the headline and choose Inspect Element(Q). This will open a panel at the bottom of the tab. On the left side, the clicked element should be selected in the HTML code of the page. On the right side, you can switch from the "Rules" list to the "Fonts" list to see what font is being used for that element. If you switch back to the Rules list, sometimes you can see what font the page prescribed, but if there are lot of rules, it can be challenging to find....
Either way, if you think Firefox is NOT downloading and using the preferred font, one possible reason is not allowing pages to choose their own fonts. You can double-check this setting in the Preferences dialog:
* "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Content
Click the "Advanced" button and make sure the box is checked to "Allow pages to choose their own fonts". After OK'ing that change, you probably need to reload the page to see any difference.

Why are the tabs not saved when I restart Firefox? Very frustrating with the new version.

I pin a tab - or many tabs. Close Firefox, then open it the tabs are never saved. This was never the issue with the older versions of Firefox - been using it for years. I bought a new computer, loaded Firefox (19.0) and now I cannot "save" the tabs.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

When I have the phone open and I want to select a new contact to call I have to use the search function, find the contact, find the number i wish to call, call.
before I could just scroll through to find the one i want, select the number and the call would be made. (as you do if you open the contacts app) can I change this back?

Perhaps you have 2 or more contacts with the same phone number? If you do anything that displays the name associated with a phone number will chose at random.

Hi The next thing to do is to Restore back to Factory Settings this will get rid of any bugs . After Restore use same Apple ID /Password then you should get all your Apps & data back If you still have this problem make an Appointment at Apple Store . Cheers Brian
