Why are the iPhone/Apple TV export presets better quality than QT h.264

I've been exporting a lot of content to the web lately and we use Compressor to batch encode most of it, but one thing has always puzzled/frustrated me! If you export using one of the Apple device presets, then the quality of output is pretty **** good, and these presets are all H.264 based. But if you export as a QT file with the H.264 codec, with all the same settings the quality is noticeably worse!
Does Apple have some special H.264 encoder hidden way for use in theIr presets?
Its really starting to frustrate us as we want to get that some quality but have a bit more flexibility with the data rate and resolutions.
Any ideas?

That's why I find this so puzzling. The extra blockiness is VERY apparent when watching the video played back. The main difference I see from the Media Info analysis is that F4V says "CABAC/3 ref frames" instead of just "2 ref frames". I suppose my main question is whether or not its possible to get the same quality in an mp4 file.

I have seen many ip4's and they all seem to have different levels of brightness and color hue's (kalvin temps) WHY? Due to problems with my phone I have had to return the phone three times 4 times now.Not being picky but each phone I have had has had its own issues...First one had the yellowish dots, messed up sensor and sorry battery and everything else...The screen color temp throughout was yellowish.The second ip4 i got was more cool in color temp more of a bluish white but the battery was horrible, Went back today to return and the phone they gave me was very yellowish so I told them no way am I leaving with this phone so they opened a new one and this one is not as yellow and not as bluish maybe somewhere in-between. also I am not sure if its as bright as the one I took in today. I do know that compared to the floor models it was not the brightest but also not the dimmest....I understand that they can not keep bringing out phones and activating them to see the color and brightness but I would think that there would be better quality control on these phones. It just does not make sense as to why so many phones are all so very different in the brightness and color temp of the screen.
My main concern was battery life so, I do think I finally got a phone that has a much better battery. It has only drained 7% in 8 hours.
So any ways this thread is not about battery but it is about the brightness and color of the iphone screens..Does anyone know WHY?????????

and please understand that I am trying to understand...not trying to be a picky jerk but I do not like yellowish dim screens. After having an 27"imac LED that I can only keep at 50% because it is so bright and white that looking at a yellow screen is just not my cup of tea.........

I've seen no difference among the three we have in our family, except those attributable to different brightness settings -- and whether the auto brightness function is enabled or not.

Why are the file sizes of exported jpegs so small?

I shoot raw, studio portraits mostly. I import to Lightroom 5 as DNG and then edit. Upon exporting as jpegs, the file sizes end up way too small, some of the cropped and/or black & white conversions as small as 560 KB, even with slider to 100%. Un-cropped color photos are ending up from 1.5 to 3MB. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your response. I think some of the difficulties in this thread are that there have been more than one person reporting issues, which may or may not be exactly the same or different from the initial one reported by the original poster. Then, anyone else commenting can easily intermix bits and pieces from any or all of the other posters interrelated issues. Also, I should have added to my last response in clarification what I meant about the overall dimensions. I was referring specifically to inches, not file size, not resolution.
My very first post was a thank you to Rusty's post for his comment about how he had noticed his Resolution setting had been changed from ppi to ppcm. I didn't say anything about printing. In fact, I never even stated what my issue was. I was merely thanking him for sharing information. So, for anyone to tell me that I didn't know what my issue is, that I didn't understand was quite laughable to me. And then the other two posters were almost equally ridiculous, who said that since they didn't experience the same conditions as myself and another person, it couldn't be a programming error.
Trust me, I understand explicitly about resolution, image size, dimensions, file size and how they are all interrelated. Resolution is essentially the density of pixels. (And I'm still used to dpi vs ppi, that's how long I've been working with the concept.) I often help other people understand in whichever mode is most comfortable for them to grasp the knowledge of how to know what size image they need/want to capture and print depending on the types of measurements shown on their equipment used and by whomever they might be working with for finish work.
I have a set process, I have set image sizes, I have an action recorded in Photoshop to shrink my images to 24" x 36" and save them in the proper folder with the proper name and another to shrink them to 8" x 12" and place them in the proper folder with the proper name. I am meticulous, so when the first image imported into Photoshop and it was 18.898" x 28.346", un-cropped, I couldn't figure it out. The file size was still just as large, the resolution was still 72, I hadn't changed any settings in Lightroom or Photoshop, the ONLY thing I had done was install an update. It didn't make sense to me that with the pixel dimensions still being the normal size, all of the sudden the inch dimensions were smaller. And I did need to be able to have the capability for a larger print size if/when I do want to print.
I hope that I'm being clear now. I really was just trying to post a thank you initially. I hadn't expected all of this excess.

Why is the iPhone 5's volume on headphones lower than before?

When I am listening to music on my iPhone I can't help but notice that the volume when using headphones is pretty low. When I listen to music at full volume on my iPad I noticed that the sound is significantly higher than my iPhone. It's not just with earpods and I have checked all of the music settings and the eq and volume limits are all off. Is this a more widespread problem or is it just a few people that have this issue? The volume is also lower in games and youtube

Same thing happened to me in the beginning. Try taking off the LTE connection and clear your apps consistantly. That's what I did and it worked for me.

I phone 5 c charging cable is terrible quality, i've replaced it twice in the span of 6 months of buying the phone, they are not even cheap. Why should I as a paying customer be given such atrocious quality of accessories.

I am new to CS5 and have been doing a lot of researching and testing saving AI CS5 files in "Press Quality" PDF format. When I preview the PDF files in MAC's Preview application (will get Acrobat Reader as well) everything looks nice and crisp, but the colors are a bit on the dark side compared to my original AI files, namely the burgundy. Needless to say, I am only using CMYK and the resolution has been set to High.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Now I am sitting in front of the right computer and I just checked the CMYK profile in AI and it says: North America Prepress 2. I found the following tutorial on the internet and this guy says that it is best to use a CMYK profile called BEST WORKFLOW which is supposed to accurately display colors across all platforms. In the tutorial, he also added that if you do not see this profile listed then you should Load (directly from the CMYK profile window) it from your computer. However, I was unable to locate this profile on my MAC and since this tutorial is based on AI CS2, I am unsure if I can use it.

If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

Once I find the game i will truly screenshot that it states "not compatible for these models". I just find it RIDICULOUS that my iPod touch is in good condition and some of the applications that I want download sometimes are not compatible with my iPod touch 4g. What am I missing?
Having been with Virgin for a very long time and using basic phones I need something that's going to let me do what I need on the go without lagging and crashing so I'm going for an iPhone...possibly the 5C.
Do you think Virgin would supply me with a sim to go in the iPhone if I bought it from Apple??

If Apple has decided to sell the 5C at £319 ( as shown on UK store) it will be NOT carrier locked and will work with any of the UK Apple Approved carriers ,including Virgin
(forget CPW their units will lock to the first carrier sim used )
I imagine if you have a contract Virgin will provide the correct sim provisioned for your number ,but ask them first

Yes, you can't. The default order in the main window is based on date, ascending or descending when you are in the standard 'thumbnail view'. If you are in 'folder' view, with your folders shown in the left panel, you are shown the pictures in alphabetical order of the file names.

I have so many pictures. I wanted to put all the pictures for each album next to each other so I can find them easily.
It's not difficult to create albums and 'drag' pictures in it. When an album is selected, you can move your pictures around in any order in the main window panel.
Albums are one way of grouping and ordering pictures. You should try to use keywords to organize and retrieve your pictures.

Why are the adobe pdf presets grayed out in photoshop? I'm trying to save an image to "Press Quality" as a pdf and the settings are grayed out.

Maybe a screenshot of your Photoshop working area with the image opened, image tab and the layer panels showing might give us an idea. I can't guarantee that I can help, but someone might be familiar with the situation.
Also a screenshot of the Save as Adobe PDF and the PDF settings dialog as separate shots would also help as well. That way we see what you see.

Hey, I just had this problem, I went into Settings -> Privacy-> Facebook (which is where I was saving photos from) -> turned it on, then back to settings -> Facebook-> and logged in. When I went back to Facebook and saved a photo and it saved to my camera roll. I haven't tried it with anything else yet though. Hope this helps!
