Why are the new iPhones much more expensive in Canada?

Looking at the Apple Canada website I see that the iPhone 5C is priced from $599 (yes - 500 and 99 !!), whereas the US price is $99.  The difference for the 5S is similar.
Why this huge discrepancy, and will it be corrected soon?  I certainly don't plan to get one anytime soon if not.

Thanks for that.  I didn't take enough notice of the fine print, but it's odd that Apple should advertise it differently on the US and Canadian online store websites.
I will wait and see what (if any) deals come along via my carrier.  I'm due for a new phone anyway.

  • Why is the iphone5 so much more expensive in Canada than in the US??

With the Canadian dollar near parity, why is the cost of the new iPhone5 so much more in Canada???

    It's not.
Announced US pricing is for a subsidized device on 2yr contract.
All other pricing that I have seen for iPhones in other country's is for non-subsidized devices.

  • Why are itunes books so much more expensive than kindle books?

I am a recent convert from Android to iPad and iPhone.  Even though I have the Kindle app on both devices and can read my Kindle books, it seemed to make sense to make any new book purchases through iTunes since I already purchase apps and music.  However, after comparing about a half dozen books on both Kindle and iTunes, the iTunes books were all higher in price by 30 to 50%.  This doesn't make sense to me, so I thought I'd throw it out as a question and see if anyone knew why.

I'm struggling with the same thing. I prefer to buy all things Apple. If the prices were even close, I would, but I just found yet another book that I need for work where Kindle is literally half the price!!!!  One thing I won't do is end up with half of my ebooks in Kindle and half in iBooks, so if Apple doesn't fix this, I'm afraid I will have to buy all my books from amazon. And once you start down either path, it's hard to switch back, so I hope Apple is paying attention.

  • Why is apple Australia so much MORE expensive than America!?

so tell me, Why is apple Australia so much MORE expensive than America!?    i have been meaning to pick up a new imac.....and i saw that the exact same type of imac that i want i could pick up in America for a good $600 LESS.... you know, even though our dollar is HIGHER THAN AMERICA'S! *** APPLE!

    Reasons:
    Australian import duties
    Australian taxes on foreign imports
    Australian VAT
Got complaints? Talk to your politicians. Apple has nothing to do with it.

  • WHY ARE THE UK USERS PAYING MORE FOR THE CLOUD SERVICES????

WHY ARE THE UK USERS PAYING MORE FOR THE CLOUD SERVICES????
OR IS IT JUST LAZYINESS THAT YOU CHANGE THE DOLLAR SIGN FOR THE POUND?

it obviously doesn't, but then again some people or organisation only care about price when it comes to purchasing their laptops, and it is hard to justify making a special model for a selected few.
Sure everything can be done if there is a market for it, but Lenovo won't know how large the market is before hand, as such they are hedging a bet by not moving with the market (which Lenovo have done on many occasions). I guess the finanical return is not the worth the risk for Lenovo to keep the 4:3 or 16:10 screens.
But this debate has been going back and forth for a long time, so no point bringing it up again and again.

  • Why are my new iPhone 4S photos not displayed in iPhoto?

I have just started using a new iPhone 4S and have taken photos that will not display in iPhoto.  My previous iPhone 3GS worked fine, but now the image files from the new iPhone 4S show as dashed outlined files with the file numbers showing. But when I try to import them, they are indicated as unreadable. What is the problem and what's my next step?

Type "iphone not recognized in itunes" into the search bar at the top of this page by "Support" and read the resulting help articles.

  • Why does the new iPhone bend?

The newest hidden feature in the iPhone 6 is that you can bend it. All jokes a side, whats wrong with that. I thought Apple had metallurgists working to make a stronger metal. Whats gonna happen to the people that have had this happen to them. Is Apple gonna provide a new phone for them on warranty or something?
If any one has any information about this post it here .

Where did you see or find that the new iPhone bends under NORMAL use? A YouTube video? Which would you rather believe? A YouTube video that has been largely debunked or a tour through Apple's very secret test facilities that actually shows the rigorous testing procedures? I guess that would depend on whether you are a troll or nor. Somehow I don't think we will be hearing back from you.

  • Are the new iphones unlocked?

Just wondering whether the new iphone can be used with any carrier,
or whether it can only be used with the carrier that activated it first.
I often go to Europe and would be nice to be able to swap SIMs and pay
    local rates.
    Regards

If this webpage is any indication for Australian customers, it looks like we will be able to purchase the iPhone 3GS outright! =D

    Silly child ...
I am not discussing individual policies, and only in the context of "cannot ciriticize Apple" ("over charging" in the original post.
Now go away away, boy ... you bother me!

  • Why are the old iPhones going for so much on ebay?

My iPhone was recently destroyed by my lawn mower, so I was looking out on ebay to see if I could find a bargain on a used one. But I see 8gb versions are going for upwards of $500 - used. That's what I paid for my 16gb brand new.
What is making them so popular?
    Thanks,
    Brad

It basically boils down to supply and demand. Locked iPhones in sealed boxes are bringing as much, if not more, than unlocked ones.
If you're thinking of upgrading, check your area to make sure there is 3G coverage, otherwise stick with the 1 gen model. You'll still be able to install the new 2.0 software and get apps from the App Store.

  • Why are calls to certain countries more expensive ...

    Hello!
I just wonder why calls to ordinary phones are more expensive to certain countries than to others. For example a call to Afghanistan is 30 cents a minute, a call to Somalia or Guinea is 57 cents a minute, but a call to France is only 2 cents a minute. Why is that? Are you working on a solution to that? We have many immigrants in my country who would like to be able to make cheap calls to their home countries and not only to rich western countries.
    Thank you!
    Greetings from Andreas from Sweden

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple. Forall items in the store the prices are set by the content providers, and with US prices you need to add on the state's sales tax to the listed price, which I think can be up to something like 7 percent.

  • Why is the Daft Punk album more expensive on iTunes?

Why did I pay £8.99 for the new Daft Punk album when it is £4.99 on google Play? This happens regularly with new albums, it's a complete scam, and off putting for anyone wanting to buy the album and support the groups.

    Espelho,
The prices are clearly marked, so feel free to purchase it at the store that gives you the best price and convenience.
Google Play sells songs in MP3 format, which is fully compatible with iTunes and virtually every other player, program, and edevice.
There is no need to pay a higher price.

  • Why are the prices so much higher on the uk website than on us website?

The price for an iPhone 6 plus 16gb space grey on the uk website is £619 but the price on the U.S. website is $299 (translates to about £190). Why is the price higher for the uk

The $299 price tag applies to subsidized iPhones bought in service contract with a carrier for 2 years.  So you pay $299, plus a monthly payment to the carrier for 2 years.
The real comparison would be the full priced unlocked  T-Mobile iPhone at $849 dollars.

  • Why is the iPod touch considerably more expensive on Apple's own website than others?

For example the 32GB iPod touch is £249 on Apple but only £219 on both Currys and Argos, and cheaper again on Amazon?

If they are authorized resellers, then buying a new item should give you an item as good as anything you would get directly from Apple itself.  Authorized resellers meet strict contractual agreements with Apple to earn their authorized status, so the products they actually sell will be identical to the same item, sold new, at an Apple store.
Apple pricing is a bit of mystery often.  Resellers agree to a number of terms or limitations on how much they can alter the price as set by Apple itself, but I gather those limitations are different for different products.  Usually, for example, Apple computers vary little in price from Apple or any reseller, but resellers can bundle "extras" like RAM or hard drive upgrades over stock build, or software, to sweeten their offerings.
As you mention, iPods seem to be one of the most variable priced items, so maybe it is just a matter of Apple giving resellers more latitude with them over other products?
