Why are there different versions of KB's?

(I didn't know in what forum catagory to put this, this seemed like the best option)
KB's have different versions to them, for example, KB942288 goes to version 4.
Does anyone know the difference between versions?
If you have security update KB2894842 instead of KB2894842v2 are you less safe or is the versioning simply a matter of something else?
Also, is there a surefire way of knowing which version is the latest? Sometimes the technet support site does not have an article for the specific KB, only the Microsoft ID (MSXX-XXX) and there you would have to look for the file name, KBSOMETHING-v2.exe.

Many IMAP email services come with a notes feature just like iCloud, you simply have all yours turned on.
On your Mac, go to system preferences > Internet accounts and make sure you are logged into all 3 accounts and that notes is checked for each.
Then go to your notes application and drag all of your notes from the other two accounts into iCloud, go back to system preferences > Internet accounts and uncheck notes on your other 2 accounts.
Now go to settings > mail, contacts, calendars on your mobile device and turn off notes for the other 2 accounts.

  • Why are there different versions of Firefox 28.0 for Windows

I have a desktop PC running Windows 7 and a laptop running Windows 8.1. I set them both up with Firefox, and they both have Firefox 28.0 installed at the moment.
However, while the desktop version is a plain 28.0, the laptop declares itself to be 28.0 EU ballot. (yes, it probably was loaded via the browser choice facility in Windows).
Is there any actual code difference between the versions, and if not, why confuse me by identifying them differently?
The difference came to my attention while i was investing a problem with a mapping program on the UK's national government mapping services website, which runs fine on the desktop, but stalls while loading on the laptop. The Ordnance Survey say that they are working on fixing a problem introduced by Firefox 28.0, so I started looking at the differences between my two machines.

Sorry, perhaps I was unclear. The OS have not, to my knowledge, published anything regarding the problem with Getamap - the information came in an email reply to a support call I raised when I encountered the hang. Here is the text of that reply.
    Dear ************,
Thank you for contacting Ordnance Survey regarding OS getamap.
The latest update to Mozilla Firefox has effected users trying to access OS getamap. We are currently working on a solution to resolve the issue. Presently you should be able to access OS getamap with Internet Explorer.
I hope this information has been helpful.
    Kind regards,

  • Why are there two versions of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro in my Programs

I understand the annoyance and confusing issues with CC and CC 2014 programs.  I also have read in the community of Acrobat installing twice purposely?
My question is all my CC (or CC 2013) programs installed around early Feb.  The newer CC 2014 programs updated (or installed) around late June of 2014.  I have two versions of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro listed in my programs, are they two different versions?  The one installed in Feb shows ver 11.0, the one showing installed mid August is showing as ver 11.0.08.
Can I uninstall ver 11.0? or are these both purposely installed by Adobe.  If purposely, why is Adobe making their installs and updates so confusing and VERY annoying??
    Thanks for any suggestions!

There isn't.  One is Acrobat, the application installation.  The other is Acrobat's Creative Cloud licensing installation.  Do NOT try to remove one.
This is kind of documented in the Creative Cloud's Acrobat deployment documentation:  Creative Cloud Help | Deploying Adobe Acrobat
    Uninstalling Acrobat on Windows
Once you have deployed Acrobat using the package in the Exceptions folder, you can uninstall it using the usual process for uninstalling msi packages. There are two MSI packages that are necessary to uninstall in a standalone package.  One for the main MSI package that the Creative Cloud Packager creates which is for licensing and the second MSI package which is the Acrobat Pro MSI package which is in the Exceptions folder.
Here is the command line syntax for uninstalling Acrobat:
    Syntax Example:
    msiexec.exe /x <path to Acrobat msi file> /qn
Here is the command line syntax for uninstalling the Creative Cloud Packager licensing package:
    Syntax Example:
    msiexec.exe /uninstall <path to the CCP msi file> /quiet

  • Why are there two versions of Photoshop (CC

After accidentally opening two parts of the same website in DW CC and DW 2014 CC, I uninstalled the older version.  Can someone tell me WHY the new version didn't overwrite the older one?  I assume that it is necessary to uninstall older versions, but this should be automatic on the upgrade shouldn't it?.  What is the reason for this? Kind of interested because it was unexpected.
Years ago when upgrading from CS3 we discovered that the Photoshop PDF function could no longer make PDFs with pages in newer versions CS4 and CS5 (which clients wanted) so I have kept my CS3 Photoshop pgm just for making PDFs, while running the latest version for everything else.  Is it possible that Adobe depreciated some functions in this new release of CC2014 and that is the reason for both versions of CC?  Just putting it out there, I don't spend my vacations in Roswell, NM or anything like that.
    Thanks!
    John

Adobe, why are you making things so complicated...
People pay for the cloud, so they want improvement, they want to go with the latest tools automatically.
I'm a spoiled Mac user, where Apple always overwrites old apps, which is the most user friendly solution there is.
Please do this as well, because it truly sucks to have two apps!
Could you tell me how I get rid of the old version on a user friendly way, so my documents open with the new app.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Why are there two versions of flash player on my laptop?

I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional which seems to handle both 32 and 64 bit software.  I use Firefox as my default browser and use MSIE only when I must.
A Flash update failed so I checked the uninstall programs list thinking I'll just uninstall and reinstall the latest.
Huh?  I found both "Flash Player 10 Active X" and "Flash Player 11 Plugin 64 bit."  Now I've no clue what failed to upgrade nor why there are two versions.  Why 10 AND 11 and why is one called "Active X" while the other is called "Plugin".
And, to confuse me further, there is also Adobe AIR.  I don't know what or why or how to deal with all of these.  Would somebody kindly explain?
And, how do I figure out what update to which failed?
    frustratedfrequently

The ActiveX Flash Player is used by Internet Explorer and the plug-in Flash Player is used by Firefox.
    Download the following files:
Uninstaller for 64 bit Operating Systems
    Flash Player for Internet Explorer
    Flash Player for other browsers
Close the browser and disconnect from the Internet.  Run the uninstaller and restart Windows.
Delete all remaining files and folders located in the following directories. (tip: copy and paste these paths into the path bar in an Windows Explorer window)
    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
    %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
    %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
Verify that the file “FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl” in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ system, has been deleted.
    Run both installers.

  • Why are there two versions of a graphic in Muse?

I see MUSE makes a second copy of all graphics and renames them  like this
    original name is showcase-a-item-d.jpg
    MUse ads this
    showcase-a-item-d-u678-fr.jpg
    WHY?

Please don't discourage your fellow forum members from attempting to help others. This is first and foremost a user forum. Thanks.
There are many cases that could result in Muse creating a second copy of an image. If the image is used at different sizes on different pages Muse may chose to export two different sizes to improve the page load time for the page with the smaller image. In the case of a slideshow with thumbnails, Muse will create separate images for the thumbnails if they are signifcantly smaller than the hero images (since loading the hero images may take quite awhile and it would cause the thumbnails to be very slow to appear if separate thumbnail images were not used). In the case of some effects (esp. bevel and inner glow, but in some cases also outer glow and drop shadow) Muse will combine the effect into the image in order to achieve a consistent appearance across all popular browsers.
If you provide the URL for a specific example of what you're seeing, I'm sure we can explain what's occurring and why.

  • Why are there 2 versions of same song in Itunes folder

    Hi,
Itunes is not showing double songs in the player, but when I go to the folder where the .m4a files are located there is both a "song.m4a" and a "[00g.....]song.m4a".  Some folders have this and some don't.  Why?  Also, some folders have "AlbumArt_{2DE.....}_Large.jpg", "AlbumArt_{2DE....}_Small.jpg", and "AlbumArtSmall.jpg".
All these duplicate files take up a lot of space.  What are they for?
    Thanks.

Depending on the way you add music to iTunes and the setting of "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" it is possible for it to create duplicates of files you have imported on a previous occasion. You can clear these type of duplicates up with a script I wrote recently. See this thread for more info.
The album art images you refer to are are created by Windows Media Player. Generally they are not a problem, but if your files get rearranged because you edit the tag data then iTunes won't move the artwork when it moves the files which can leave orphaned artwork hanging around in otherwise empty folders. I have a script here which can clean up orphaned art.

  • Why are there different specifications and SKUs on the same model window air conditioner?

Hello, The Best Buy website has a Frigidaire Home Comfort 12,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner - White Model: FFRE1233Q1 SKU: 6060171. In the Specifications next to "Energy Star Certified" it says "No" and doesn't show the EER. The picture of the unit shows an Energy Star emblem in the upper, right of the unit.
The website also has a Frigidaire Home Comfort 12,000 BTU Air Conditioner - White Model: FFRE1233Q1 SKU: 8274079. It also states in the Specifications next to "Energy Star Certified": "No" yet shows the EER as 11.3. The picture of the unit also shows an Energy Star emblem in the upper, right of the unit. Both units are in the section "Best Buy/ Appliances/ Heating, Cooling & Air Quality/ Air Conditioners/ Window Air Conditioners/ Product Info".
The Frigidaire website shows a Frigidaire 12,000 BTU Window-Mounted Room Air Conditioner FFRE1233Q1 and states Energy Star Certified": "Yes" and says the EER is 11.3. The picture they show looks to me like the same picture on both pages I've referenced on the Best Buy website and also shows an Energy Star emblem in the upper, right of the unit.
Can you possibly tell me what the difference is between the 2 units on the Best Buy website and the Model FFRE1233Q1 on the Frigidaire website? Thank you.

    Hello agreatcompany,
This is certainly bizarre! To my knowledge, it seems that these are the exact same unit, so there wouldn't be any differences. It is possible we were doing some modifications to the information on this unit, and ended up changing the SKU, causing 2 to exist, which may explain why you were able to see both on BestBuy.com at one point. Presently, it would seem the only SKU available on BestBuy.com would be SKU 8274079.
In regards to the specifications, we receive all of the information from the vendor. With that said, I do see that this model appears to be Energy Star Certified according to Frigidaire's site, yet we do not have it listed as such. Please know that I am bringing this issue to the attention of the appropriate teams to have it reviewed, and any errors corrected.
If I should be provided any alternate information in regards to the two SKUs, please know that I will update you right away! If you should have any questions, please let me know.

  • Are there different versions of Flash CS3?

I believe there was a professional and a standard version of
Flash Cs2. Is this also true with Cs3? Does the version listed on
the Adobe website enable you to encode Flash video or do you need
    anyting else to do so?
    Thanks.

There's only 1 CS3 version and yes to encoding FLV video.
Flash CS3 comes with its own encoder.

  • Why are there different mp3 icons

The new-looking mp3 icons are little squares (album covers?) and they play fine in iTunes. I have a bunch that are just the old "single note" icon and those will  not play. Why not please? Thanks.

I just checked and all the values in the timeline differ from the values in the Effect Controls.
Would not worry too much. Its cosmetic.
You could file a bug report though.

  • Which version of Dreamweaver should I be learning. CS6 or CC? Why are they different?

Which version of Dreamweaver should I be learning. CS6 or CC? Why are they different?  I am learning CS6 in school, I wanted to practice at home so I joined Creative Cloud.  Although both versions are available,  I understand that the DWCC is the most recent version and CS6 will be faded out.  I'm half way through CS6 and now see there are a lot of differences in the format of CC.

Jon has the best answer here, though nancy's absolutely correct. I have seen no instruction manuals for the Creative Cloud version of Dreamweaver.
Fact is, while there are differences, if you learn CS6, Creative Cloud won't be too much of a stretch. I would suggest that there are lots of differences between Dreamweaver MX (released 29 May 2002) and Creative Cloud (released this year). So, if you're looking at an old MX tutorial, it's probably a good idea to purchase a different book and tutorial.
Dreamweaver is, essentially, a code editor. This is absolutely crucial for you to understand. It's not like Adobe's InDesign, a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG page layout tool. The Worldwide Web is entirely based on HyperText Markup Language, which is in its 4th version, with a 5th proposed and on the cusp of being agreed to. Dreamweaver started supporting HTML5 with CS 5.5 (version 11.5).
So, if what you do is go out and buy books on HTML 4, XHTML and HTML5, you will be learning what is really required in Dreamweaver. As to the Dreamweaver interface, it's a bunch of panels that can, pretty much, be ignored. If you edit in Split View, you will see your web page as you build it (but it won't really be correct unless you switch to Live View, which does not update as you edit). And you still have to check everything out in a browser (two or three would actually be good).
So, do your tutorials on CS6 because they'll pretty much give you a good enough idea about how Dreameaver CC works, but learn HTML and CSS. Otherwise, you'll find yourself hopelessly lost.

  • Are there different php functions for Oracle 8 and 9?

    Hi!
Are there different php functions for Oracle 8 and 9?
    Thanks for your answer!

You can use the oci8* functions for Oracle 8, 9 and 10.
It is the most recent PHP interface to Oracle, and uses Oracle's most recent
    API.
The name oci8 comes from the version number of Oracle - version 8 - when
Oracle introduced a new C API. It succeeded the original OCI and got the
common name OCI8. The original OCI now has the common name of OCI7.
