Why aw6 upgrade to aw7 for CD/DVD authoring?

Hi,
I am familiar with authorware since 1997.
Altough I am not a programmer pur sang,
I like the flexible workflow.
Offering external linked content; txt-files(V5),
rtf-files(V6) and many, many smart interactive possibilities.
The last 4 years i was developing web based applications.
(Dreamweaver, Coursebuilder, Flash, Lectora etc...)
One of my clients/partners wants now a CD/DVDrom application.
I want to do it with Authorware 5, 5.1, 6.0
Can anybody tell me what the benefits are to upgrade to 7.
(for CD/DVD authoring)
Or maybe i can better wait for authorware 8. Adobe studio
........(swf
output?...is this really possible? )
Thanks in Advance,
Marc

Maybe you Tell me... about the swf-question?
The things I really miss>?...
I Wonder,
Marc

  • How do I export a 720p 30fps video that is suitable for NTSC DVD authoring?

I have some 720p HD videos, but they are 30fps. I want to encode them (using a separate program) to SD MPEG-2 for authoring an NTSC DVD. How do I conform these files to the 29.97fps frame rate needed for DVD authoring? Do I export the video as is @30fps, but set the MPEG-2 encoder to use 29.97fps during the encode? Will that sync cause problems or stuttering? Or do I need to do something else to the video before it can be encoded to MPEG-2?
I am quite new to using HD video, and never had to work with 30fps material before.

What camera did you shoot this on?  Also I thought you said all the clips were 720p, the reason I'm asking what camera you shot this stuff is because with several camera's even though they say 720p they are actually recording as 720PsF which will appear to cs4 as interlaced footage. It also appears as interlaced to FCP and also media info and Gspot.

  • Why do upgrades keep appearing for iPhoto 9.6 after upgrading

I have an older iMac thats been upgraded to Yosemite, after the upgrade I keep getting notices in the App store that an upgrade to iPhoto 9.6 is available.  My downloads from the store show that I've downloaded 9.6 several times along with other enhancements, is there any way to fix this so the same download doesn't appear?.

Do you have installed iPhoto in the Applications folder? If you moved it to different folder or renamed it, the appStore will not recognise it as installed.

  • Final Cut Pro - does it come with a DVD Authoring Software

    Hey guys!
I'm just planning to change my Windows to a Mac.
I was looking around for a DVD Authoring Software and everyone was suggesting DVD Studio Pro. So I looked it up to get it's price but I couldn't find it at all. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me where DVD Studio Pro is available. It would also be great if you could suggest any other DVD Authoring Software compatible with Mac OS.
    Thanks very much!

You either have not drunk the kool aid or did not get Apple's version of the future memo.
The DVD is dead according to Apple corp. And, they are doing everything possible to sweep it away. DVDSP has been discontinued.
If you want to stay with Apple apps, your options are iDVD or  Compressor 4 ( limited menus). Otherwise, start looking at the Adobe CS suite (particularly Encore).
Welcome to the brave new world.

  • Professional wedding dvd authoring??

    Hi
i am looking for professional dvd authoring software for Mac. (not iskysoft or equivalent as they are not fully customisable)
something with fully customisable menus etc with no watermark (iDVD)
im not looking for a free download version, willing to pay good money for good quality software
similar to power director 13 on, dare I say it the PC.
    surely Mac Must beat that!!!
editing on FCPX so no need for new editing software.
    help please.

Actually, they're both dead. They just haven't fallen down yet...
What happened was Blue Ray... and numerous problems with DRM (digital rights management) and the squabbling between just about every Japanese electronics company you can think of...
Steve Jobs said: Blue Ray is just a bag of hurt. (He wasn't too happy with HDMI either!) He had enough and killed development—all of it. New Macs don't even have the DVD drive anymore and there will never be a BD drive. The way technology is progressing, it is my opinion that BD and DVD will not survive. You can get a better, more superior quality with smaller file sizes and players like Roku, etc. and Apple TV etc. (I have a cheap "IncrediSonic" player and the quality of 640x360 h.264 videos is easily on par with DVD quality on an HD tv set [or better].)
I was keeping up to date with DVDSP and the last version I have is 4.2.2.  If you require DVD authoring, it may help you if you have an older Mac running Snow Leopard (which was the version of OSX on my 2009 iMac when I bought Final Cut Studio 3) up to about Mountain Lion to run DVDSP on. I've read that DVDSP runs "fine" under Yosemite, but I cannot personally confirm that for you (I can open it, but I haven't put it through its "paces" in years.)
You can do "real authoring" DVD Studio Pro. DVD Studio Pro is about the only software package for Mac that I know of that allows you to actually "program" the disc with instructions (like many commercially created DVDs — animated menus, hidden layers, etc..) Everything you've ever seen a DVD do, you can create in DVDSP. If you have Motion 4, you can import motion projects into DVDSP for use in creating DVD menus and such. It is a very complete development app for the media. I was happy to have it — except — I never could equal the render quality with a 1 hour DVDSP created disc that I could get from my Panasonic set top DVD recorder (recording tv shows) even at 4 hours of programming per disc. (Panasonic's DVD quality with upsampling was "who needs blu-ray" — literally.)
I bought FCP Studio 3 mainly for DVDSP (4 years ago now...) I haven't used it (DVDSP) in at least 3 years now. You have to ask yourself "Is it worth it?"  Both Apple and Adobe have abandoned DVD (and Blue-ray). Commercial DVDs/BDs are still being made, but you can't even get a decent price on a set top recorder anymore — they're becoming "rare" (Panasonic has stopped development of those boxes, and they were the best.) All of these companies have read the handwriting on the wall, so to speak (or they're the ones writing it!) You can do better with an 8GB SD card (and the right player) media-wise, than you can with DVD...or BD for that matter. [Also consider what effect UltraHD/4K/5K and up(?) will have as time goes on. More nails in the DVD/BD disc coffin.]
In the meantime, iDVD should not watermark your media... I have no idea what is up with that. It's easier to learn and use, shouldn't cost very much and you won't feel as bad when you ultimately abandon it. And it's better than Toast.

  • Dvd authoring question

first of all, i make basic, simple check dvds for my clients using compressor & dvd studio pro but i don't do any real dvd authoring. i've been editing hi-def material (dvcpro hd/apple prores hq 720p) for about 4-5 yrs and have been delivering hard drives to dvd authoring facilities for commercially released sd dvds. they play back letterboxed 4:3 on my sd tv set and i've been told they play back 16:9 on widescreen units. i know little about the authoring process so i'm not sure how that magic happens.
a client of mine (who produces commercially released dvds) who's my last sd holdout is making the leap to hd (at least the test files were apple prores hq 720p 59.94). when i spoke to this client's dvd authorer, he said he still wanted the show in an sd format (preferably tape) and said it didn't make sense for them to be shooting in 16:9 since the sd dvds that he'll be producing are 4:3 so the picture will either be cut off or squeezed. understood but like i said no one else i've dealt with has ever mentioned that as being a problem. i provide the highest quality files i can and in the authoring they downconvert for an sd dvd that plays either letterboxed or full screen 16:9 depending on the playback setup. can anyone explain to me how that process works so i can explain it to him since my client has a long relationship with this dvd guy and doesn't want to leave him. thanks.

Really makes sense to shoot in 16:9 HD.  It's pretty simple to crop to a full frame 4:3 quicktime for SD DVD authoring.  You can actually setup a DVD project so that it'll play 4:3 full screen when appropriate (and even do a pan and scan - although I've never done it myself).  But as Shane says, for any sort of shelf life, 16:9 is the way to go.

  • HT2499 I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.4. The DVD player does not have a feature to store film clips. Why? This is useful for my work and I had it on my older computer? Why the loss of capacity?

I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.4. The DVD player does not have a feature to store film clips. Why? This is useful for my work and I had it on my older computer? Why the loss of capacity?

I cannot recall the DVD player ever being a place to "store" videos - it is simply an app to play videos.
If your machine is new, then iMovie should be included as the "shrunk" version of iLife is included with Lion (iMovie, Garageband, and iPhoto). However, iMovie is not a place to store videos either - it is a video editor. You import your clips and edit them in order to then burn to a DVD or share via a social media site.
Have you considered simply dragging the clips to your folder "Movies"? That would be a great place to just store them (please be aware that videos are usually large files, so keep your hard drive space in mind so you keep a minimum free and available for the OS to operate properly):

  • Firmware upgrade for Matshita DVD-R UJ-845E to burn dual layer DVD?

    Dear All
I have a PowerBookG4 with a Matshita DVD-R UJ-845E which it seems apple has disabled from burning dual layer DVD. I've read around that there are firware upgrades that can enable actions again. I can't find any for Matshita DVD-R UJ-845E, though. Any ideas?
    Thank you!
    Angie
    PowerBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    angie1976 you have me directly.
As stated in previous posts there have been several issues with the Matshita Optical drives that Apple has installed in there computers. Over time the problem has been discussed and it would appear that there are several things that come into play here.
Apple has made it so that many of the drives they intall are in fact not capable of there full potential.
It in fact boils down to an issue of Copywrite Infringment. Apple doesn't want to put itself in a position to be open to Lawsuits from the Motion Picture Industry.
Many of the drives that do not work up to there full potential have FIRMWARE updates that are offered by the manufacture to remedy this problem and some do not.
It has also been found that the casual user that burns DVD's isn't aware of the huige difference in the Format's available for DVD Burning. and the many limitations of these different drives as far as Media and Speed of Media is concerned. Many of the DL burners that were installed will not burn DL. Apple has had such a huge amount of dissatisfied customers that many that will take the time and if they still have AppleCare these drives will be replaced free of charge.
Here are a collection of links that will help you to understand the problem as it exists.
I will also say that upwards of 85% of the problems user expieriance is with POOR QUALITY MEDIA.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
I also noticed that some others have chimed in as to the fact that Media was not the issue. This is not entirely true.
Here is another post that I answered that will also cover this subject that may help you understand the problem a little better.
Let me see if I can shed some light on this issue, for you.
Maybe some others as well can.
There are several Applications that are standard programs that come with OSX.
Of these, several have the ability to burn a project.
    iTunes....iMovie.....Disk Utility.
Each of the above mentioned applications were developed for a specific purpose. However, they are capable of doing more than the original developers intended.
The problem in my eyes is the lack of information for a new user to Mac.
In what one would consider the perfect world, you simply choose a project, drag it in to one or more of the applications mentioned above and simply click burn and you are finished.
This is not always the case.
Often users are left with the issue of no clear cut direction on how to use these different burning softwares, and the ability to have a clear cut step by step user interface.
All of the furnished OSX burning software is in fact usable and works well.
The problem is HOW TO USE THEM.
The more experienced users find this either to be a non issue or will take the time to work with these different applications until they figure out how to use them.
There are of course different Advertisements and FAQ's that cover these to some degree that leave users more confused than when they started.
One of the major issues that accompany this problem is this.
Not all Burners that Apple uses in there machines are the same.
Not all Burners will accept all the different Media's that are available on the market.
Thus leaving many users confused. Not having a clear cut understanding of what the difference is between these different Media's and there use.
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd.htm
The above link offers an overview of this subject.
Apple has found itself in a delima with the Motion Picture Industry, as well as The Music Industry over the issue of offering there users with the capability of copying Copyrighted material. Thus leaving them open for Law Suits.
There was an in-depth article in one of the recent issues of Macworld Magazine, that went in-depth covering this issue.
It is almost impossible to cover all aspects of this issue on these forums.
There are of course different softwares available that make the burning experience much easier and user friendly.
Roxio is one of the industry leaders in the development of Mac compatible Burning Software. They offer 2 of the industry leaders in this area.
    Toast-7 and Popcorn.
This solves only one portion of the problem. Both of these software offering give the user the ability to copy about anything.
However, there is so much controversy over the issue of Movie and Music copying, the manufactures of the Computers, and the Burners try to limit the users ability to copy these, and thus be clear of any Legal Issue.
Here again rises the problem of computer users being mad because the industry has placed limitations on there ability to use there product in a fast easy to use method.
Again there are work around to all of these issues.
The problem then becomes who out there is willing to tell us what is the easiest most trouble free method of using these computers, burners, software, and media.
The burner manufactures offer there burners.
To get them to work to there full potential the users then must search out the 3rd party Firmware updates that will enable them to work properly. This is not an issue with all burners but quite a few.
Most readers on these forums have read about the MEDIA compatibility and poor quality issues these are covered in a prior link.
To sum this up, the resources are available to do just about anything one wants to do in the copy area.
Not every copy problem is the same because of all the different elements that come into the equation, Burner, Media, Software, Firmware.
So if a user has a problem and needs the information and the resources to copy there projects whatever they may be.
Be through, give as much information as you can.
Keep it simple, No need for the use of exotic terms that most people don't understand anyway.
In-depth. Tell all aspects of the issue and what you have what you are using and what you want to accomplish.
If there is an answer out there.
    Someone will Chime in.
The users on these forums for the most part are more than willing to share in there knowledge, free of charge.
    One last thing,
When a user gives you an answer for you problem, for the most part they believe it to be a fact. Sometimes this isn't the case, we have all been guilty of, this is not done with malicious intent. It is done trying to help.
I personally have been misinformed, or tried a fix, that will work in one instance but not another. So tell all you can about your problem.
    Cheers Don

  • Why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones but not all the phones got the all upgrades, for example the panorama camera??

why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones but not all the phones got the all upgrades, for example the panorama camera?? this is another reason I am starting to dislike apple. An ipod is able to us an upgrade but not all the phones are? makes sense

"why is the ios6 compatible for all the iphones"
Ios 6 is not available for all iphones. Original Iphone and iphone 3 are not supported.
"but not all the phones got the all upgrades, "
This is common for most any device/computer.  Not all iphone/computer/device models can handle all of the new features.  Like any device, hardware is limited and cannot always support all new features and software.

  • Backup is asking for a dvd - why when don't have dvd burner?

When trying to use the backup feature of version 8 I'm getting the message, "There is a file whose size is bigger than that of a blank CD. You need to insert a blank DVD." I don't have a dvd burner and can't find a file bigger than a cd.

i'm not sure about the whole not having a file bigger than a cd, but the main reason that it's asking for a DVD is that DVDs have a larger capacity than CDs. iTunes is trying to help you save money by using fewer discs by burning your backup of the iTunes library to a DVD instead of a regular CD.
unfortunately, i don't know of any way for u to burn a backup if it won't let you use a CD...sorry...

  • HT4623 Recently I want to upgrade the IOS for my iphone 4 with my friend's help. Unfortunately, we are unable to do it. Don't understand why?

Recently I wanted to upgrade the IOS for my iphone 4 following the guidelines closely with my friend's help. Unfortunately, we are unable to do so. I felt disappointed as I am looking forward to installing Apps, WeChat, Whats App, etc. I have bought it 2 years ago. I have read the FAQ, mine is the same as many other complaints as in the Settings-General, no "Software Update" appear but we have follow step by step but failed to do so.
My friend suggested me to visit Apple Store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I just wonder if this problem can be solved.  Kindly advise.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Regards/Michelle Gee

You are following the wrong guidelines. The Software Update option was not introduced until a later version. You need to connect to iTunes to update if you currently have iOS 4 or earlier.

  • How long is too long for a DVD?

I've been burning DVD's now for quite some time and have always thought that between 3 and 4 hours was normal for a DVD to burn in. Other's are telling me they can make DVD's in minutes!!! What's up...? Why are these time's so grossly out of proportion? Can I upgrade something or buy a better computer, what? Please help, all advice welcome

Just burning data to a DVD is very different from creating a video DVD with an application such as iDVD. Just burning data to a DVD can indeed take only a few minutes, depending of course on how much data is being burned. If you're creating a video DVD, though, then the application has to first compress the video to MPEG-2, and that can take hours.
Without knowing what you're doing, we can't say whether your experience is normal or not.

  • Why I upgraded to Dir 12?

To set the Stage.... I had been a long time Director user back with Macromedia and long before Flash but stopped using it about 2007.   So why did I upgrade to Director 12?   The price of the upgrade was cheap ($299) and the number of additions since MX 2004 seemed great...especially the H264 video... but most importantly and intriguing for me was the ability to port to iOS.
I had tried the free version but it took me a while to figure out provisioning for iOS so... my trial ran out....the decision had to be made.   Buy or not buy.
For $299 I gambled and bought it...figuring I could figure out this provisioning thing between my day job and my obessive need to play World of War Craft.
The good news is ... I have figure out how to use _Touches, the accelerometer and gyro and have made a few prototypes, applications and presentations for use on the iPad and iPhone.  The bad news is... the documentation is lacking as everyone has pointed out and there are some very basic iOS problems in this release:  3D objects still have to be w3d an old format that current 3D platforms don't export anymore, no video support, vector objects created within director don't render in IOS, Enterprise provisioning has issues ( havent gotten this to work yet ), rgb(255,255,255) doesn't key out properly on text, and VoiceSpeak doesnt work - nor do any third party xtras, transitions do not work ( frame or puppet )...and I have only been at this for about a week so i know there i alot more issues I have yet to uncover.  My biggest grief is... no books...only PDFs to search.   I do my biggest research when the computer is not on and thumbing threw the lingo dictionary...just wondering what a particular property or command does....then when the question arrise... I can go...oh ya..read that somewhere...I can do that.....the PDF thing for me stinks...good thing I still had my printed MX Lingo Dictonary.
But is this all bad news?  I don't think so...at least I hope not.  Adobe hasn't figured out what to do with Director but with Flash loosing ground and relegated now to just creating banner ads, at least in the agency I work for and Edge so far behind where we all wish it was....there is a window of opportunity for Director...but where and in what market?   Adobe thinks its games and all things shockwave.   If you open the IPA you will find the famous .dcr and their website promotes the fact that you can "publish games directly to iOS"...they did not mention anything else you could do with iOS.... I don't think they are thinking they want to put up a significant fight yet to handle the xtra security issues and they aren't really certain what the director community is going to do with the tools they have.
This is where Director was at version 1.0  - a collection of tools and a few people wanting to push the envelope of interactivity.   Luckily for us,  there are alot more now than just a few people.  But if I were Adobe and I didn't know what to do with the product I would do exactly what they have done.   Provide a few updates and see who is buying, deetermine my market size and see what they do with the tools they provided.
Since my main goal was to produce iOS apps,  Director 12 with its problems is definately a step backwards in its functionality due to its current limitations....but what it is providing is the ability to develop quickly and easily for iOS.   I can make prototypes applications faster and cheaper and get them in the hands of clients in days vs. months.
Perhaps Adobe doesn't know why I bought Director 12.  Perhaps they don't know why anyone buys Director anymore and believe games are the only reason anyone does it.  My fear is that Director has been on its death bed for several years and unless we ( the community ) can convince Adobe where this product can be used in the mobile space ( games or otherwise ) its future will continue to be uncertain.   I believe they have given us an opportunity - its iOS and we have to once again push the limits of the features they have provided.
Well at least thats why I upgraded......why did you?

    Hi Orjan Bark
We need your help as u r Director Lover.
We are working on a projetor using Flash (AS 3) and Director 11.5, and stuck at an issue of External Loding of Swf from swf link in director.
i.e. In dir file there are several swf (with AS3 code). These swf runtime load external swf file(which is in the same folder).Parent swf is usning only library asset from external; files.
The problem is that it takes too long long long time to load that swf files.
When we run swf file it works fine without any delay.(without director all goes perfect).
We had tried to solve this problem using diffternt method of AS3. But it seems that problem occur at director side,( as every time it work fine with out director).
So do you have any idea, what's wrong with director......
Thanks in advanced if u can solve this.....
