Why backup gets corrupted?

I did a backup from my iphone and now i can't get it to the new one, it says its Corrupted, why it's that? i need to get all my pictures and sms

One thing to check is to be sure your new device has the vary latest version of IOS.  If the old device had the latest version when the backup was made and the new one is even just one point version behind (new devices may sit on shelves a while and not get updated), then you can get a compatibility error.

  • 4s backs up ok, but when I try to recover get corruption error

When I try to recover my phone from a backup get corruption error everytime.  Yet I can backup just fine with no errors.  Then on that same backup I just created I try to restore it and get an error.  I tried backing up another iphone, and tried recovering from that backup file and get the same error.  Whats making all my backups get corrupted?  I can sync just fine with no errors.  But can't recover ever from any of my backups, not even one that I create right now.
    Using a PC.
    Thanks
    DJ

"So you believe the phone is corrupted ...?"  Well, not exactly.  I believe you had been carrying around some corrupted data, possibly associated with a misbehaving app or some such thing.
"... I'm afraid that if all my backups are corrupted ...".  Yes, this is not absolutely guaranteed to work.  But I think there is a high likelihood it will do an orderly transition of only the good data from the backup to your device.  No guarantee, but for what it's worth, if I were in your situation, I would try this.

  • Alter index ... rebuild was failing - getting corrupt blocks

    Database: 9.2.0.5
    OS: HPUX-ia64
    Hello,
i rebuilded a index, announced from UpdatStats in DB13, and get a ORA-01114: IO error writing block to file 2045 (block # 319154) and
ORA-27072: skgfdisp: I/O error in my sqlplus session.
    -> i do a alter index SAPR3."xxx~0" rebuild online parallel 4 nologging;
-> System was up and running
After that, the DBVerify marked some blocks corrupt, here one example:
BR0398E DBVERIFY detected corrupted blocks in /oracle/XXX/sapdata22/btabi_95/btabi.data95
We checked all corrupted blocks - all in free space.
So we fixed that with creating a table with next extend size from the corrupted blocksize.
I think we had not enough space in the tablespace where the index is, okay ... and what we also found, the PSAPTEMP datafiles was created as SPARSE files ...!!
    -> PSAPTEMP-Datafile: 10GB in the System - 2,5GB maximum on OS-Level, no more space.
But my question is why i am getting corrupt blocks when a "alter index ... rebuild ..." is failing ?!?!
    Thank you for your support.
    Regards,
    Markus

    Thany you for the answer.
I cant find any "cor" entries in the last DBVeriy log.
I think (hope) we dont' have anymore corrupted blocks in the system.
We get a response from SAP to update to 9.2.0.8.
My customer wanna do a update to oracle 10 in march/april 2009, so he send me the question if we need a update to 9.2.0.8 ASAP or can we wait for the update to oralce10.
But the important question from my customer and me is, why we get corrupt blocks after failing the alter index rebuild?
    Regards,
    Markus

  • Why am getting a "error occurred while restoring from backup" message when restoring using Time Machine?

    Hello
I recently made a Bootcamp partition with Windows 7 (which incidentally went absolutely fine).  In that partition I wanted to split it for some certain files, but on doing so I appear to have completely tanked my hard drive - I've pretty much wiped the entire thing.  I read afterwards that creating new partitions within Windows is a big no no Bootcamp wise, and this wasn't something I knew about before.  Lesson learnt!
Either way, I had a backup and though it would be simple enough to restore from that backup, but about 2% in it it pops up "an error has occurred while restoring from backup, please restart and try again".  After a few tries, this didn't work, so now I'm worried that my backup is corrupt.
I'm not sure why the backup would be corrupt as this was made with no problems as normal.
I've already tried the standard restore with no success (obviously), and I've also tried re-installing the OS up to the first boot, then trying to restore (thinking that the error was a result of a missing Recovery HD, which the re-install would create) and this was with no success also.
My final idea was to just erase the drive and re-install the OSX, and then when it prompts me, restore the files from the Time Capsule.
Am I onto the right idea, or is there another way around this?  I'm just very worried that my backup has become corrupted for some reason and I've lost everything on there.
    Specs are:
    MacBook Pro Mid 2012 OS X 10.8.5;
    Bootcamp 5 (Windows 7);

I'd agree. As long as you've gone this far, I'd probably start from scratch with your MBP, back up any critical files on it, wipe the whole thing, and do a nice clean reinstall.
I'd try to repair the backup drive with disk utilty and then see if you can restore the minimum of essential documents from it to the MBP. If Disk Utility can't fix it there is a small chance that a third party utility like diskwarrior or techtool could repair it. DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
If you can get your essential documents off the backup drive, then I'd wipe it and put a new time machine backup on it. If that doesn't work, then I'd replace the drive.

  • Why do music files get corrupted in iTunes?

Why do music files get corrupted in iTunes? All kinds of files;( mp3, mp4, aac, etc., either purchased from iTunes, Store, downloaded from online, or uploaded from an audio disc) SUDDENLY GET CORRUPTED AND STOP PLAYING! Even if I delete the file from my iTunes and then re-open it from the source, it appears to be corrupted. My system has been thoroughly scanned and does not have and never has hAd, a virus. Music files should not have a shelf life. They're just non-living pieces of information. So why should they suddenly go bad? It is unacceptable that over the past year I have had to delete many files from my iTunes library and find some other source for the same song. It has been an exhausting headache and an exasperating waste of my time.

this is not necessarily the case, I had an itunes library go bad on me. I noticed the corrupt files on my ipod, they were either skipping real bad or sounded like there was some crazy modulation filter applie. Anyways, i went to iTunes and the files were bad there, so I played them in WMP, also bad, so obviously it was a file issue, BUT, what was the source of the corruption.......also, this happened ONLY to mp3s, no other audio file.......so i had backups and copied the bad files from a dvd and played them in WMP, files were good, then i import them to iTunes, and the files are crap again, so I tried just adding to library, still bad. So the file was fine before, once iTunes touched it, the file went bad, I **** you not. So I uninstalled iTunes from my PC, downloaded the newest version and reinstalled, same problems, so i continued trying with a different version, and making sure all registry entries were cleared before installing etc. NOTHING, so in the end i had to start using Winamp and all those files have not since caused me problems. So NO, it does not have to be hard drive issues, assess your own situation and you should be able to figure out if it is your HDD. My problem seemed to be iTunes library corrupting my metadata. However, I could never get it to work. I am glad to say I have since abandoned my PC and bought a new iMac on which i once again happily running iTunes with all the same audio files as before

  • Unable to sync or backup my iPad2 with the new iTunes. I keep getting the error ""iTunes could not back up the iPad because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPad.". I've deleted all the old backups but still get this.

I'm totally frustrated by iTunes and don't know how to solve my problem. Like a lot of people on here I'm not able to sync or back up my iPad2 with my iTunes (version 10.4.1.10). I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. My iTunes worked just fine until the 10.4.xx updates came out and since June I've not been able to back up or sync the iPad2.
When I connect and try to sync I get the error message, “iTunes could not back up the iPad because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPad.”
I've deleted all the old backups so there are none on my system. I've deleted iTunes and re-installed the 64bit version several times but it has not made any difference. I've read and followed several suggestions on these boards about how to remove and reinstall everything but none have worked yet. I'm stumped here.

I had the exact same thing with my shuffle - same error message saying that it was corrupt so I restored it (wiping everything in the process) and the same message came up as soon as it reloaded. Thank god I didn't try it with my iPod or iPhone first. So many issues with this new version of iTunes!!!!!!!!

  • HT4972 After upgrading iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1 getting the error "iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored" HELP!

I attempted to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1. I selected 'back up' from the phone in the device menu and iTunes confirmed that the phone had been backed up. I then installed iOS 5.1.1 which wiped everything on the phone & now I am getting the error "iTunes could not restore the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored".
I have tried restoring factory settings but iTunes simply will not restore from back up & I'm not sure what else to do!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have the same issue and I KNOW my backup IS good. What happen is when you try to restore your phone apple says something like can I check for new updates and if you choose no, it just takes you back to the restore screen and a loop from then on.  If you dont update from you phone then when you back up you will have the 5.0.1 back up and then when you update to 5.1.1 and then try to restore the backup from 5.0.1 it say it EITHER corrupt or incompatible.. It is incompatible and its hard as **** to restore back to 5.0.1. I followed the restore to a T and still getting errors. I lost all text history and have to reset up email. All just because I wanted a 1.2 Gigs of "other" space back.

  • I am getting error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone".  I have deleted the backup and restarted my computer, but continue to get this error message.  What do I need to do now?

I have recently updated my phone and am attempting to sync it.  I got the error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone".  I deleted the backup, restarted my computer, and even restored the iPhone, but continue to get the same error message.  What do I need to do now?

iTunes places the iPhone backup in the following location. Navigate there & delete everything in the backup folder, but not the folder itself. You will have to turn on "Show All Hidden Files & Folders" to see it:
    Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • I just got my refurb iPad in the mail. I am trying to set it up, but im getting this message "iTunes could not back up the ipad because the backup was corrupt or not compatable with the ipad. Delete the backup for this ipad. then try again." How?

I just got my refurb iPad in the mail. I am trying to set it up, but i am getting this error message " iTunes could not back up the ipad because the backup was corrupt or not compatable with the ipad. Delete the backup for this ipad. Then try agian." How do I do that?

It sounds like the iPad wasn't erased to me. If the iPad is totally cleared of content, there should be nothing on it and no backup to create.
Without connecting the iPad to your computer - Launch iTunes on you computer and go to Edit>Prefences>Devices. Do you see an iPad backup in there? If you do see it, delete it.

  • I have an iPhone with iOS 7.1.1 and am trying to update to 7.1.2, but get an error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone becaus the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone"

I have an iPhone with iOS 7.1.1 and am trying to update to 7.1.2, but get an error message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone"

Assuming you are using the current version of iTunes (11,2,2), open iTunes, click "Preferences" under the leftmost entry on iTunes' menu, then choose "Devices".
Find the iPhone's backup there, highlight it, and choose "Delete Backup".

iPhone 4 will not restore my backup to iOS7, I am getting the message your backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the iPhone that is beinng restored

Restore it as a new device first, then try again. If it still won't work, you're hosed, unless you can get hold of the old device and try backing it up again.

  • Why do imported non-alphanumeric characters get corrupted ?

(I asked this ages ago and it never got solved so I'm having another go).
When I import tracks to iTunes that I have titled myself (i.e. not from CDs or downloads), characters that are non-alphanumeric (e.g. " ? !) get corrupted to a _ on import.
Why is this bug occurring? (It's been around since iTunes 6 at least) and how do I stop it?

Look in Library/Fonts and yourusername/Library/Fonts for instances of the Lucida Grande font.
Some applications install their own version of Lucida Grande causing conflicts with the Apple version, which is installed with Mac OS X and resides in: System/Library/Fonts.
Because Lucida is used to display text in Mac OS X menus, buttons and the library lists of iTunes, they can get messed up as a result.
One particular app - and I would dearly like to know which one, changes the text in iTunes to Hebrew letters. Lots of posts here about that one.
