Why buy Nokia Handsets?

Unless I'm simply blighted with persistant and long-term bad luck, my experience with Nokia and the N93 leaves me wondering how on earth this company remains viable.
I am genuinely puzzled as to how a company so defective in so many different ways (handset quality, customer service, etc etc...) can carry on trading.
I suspect that Nokia used to launch good handsets and that they flooded the market. I wonder how long it will take for consumers and retailers to realise just what a load of trash Nokia and its handsets really are now.
When Nokia goes bust, I think that will be a good day for consumers.

i also have 5500 and yes it is very problematic, nokia should have just recalled this one and gave us all 5500 customers a credit voucher to get a different model...
in china, were this became like a national issue, nokia had to declare a warranty support for it for 3 years, all because of the the rubber keypad and the glue they are using for it, yes it is not a mechanical lock-trim, they use a glue to fix it in, which when heated gives way easily, can you imagine, i am in dubai at the moment...
Nokia should have sticked to the 5140 rubberised 2-piece locked-in trim casing for a rugged phone! not like this, or better yet sue the damn glue supplier and use the money to cover us! in boston, they sued the glue manufacturer when the glue used to fasten some of the bridge parts gave way because the wrong glue was used, i think the glue used in 5500 is absolute rubbish!
ok, i am calm now...

  • Why did I buy Nokia ??? Its height of testing a cu...

On 18.05.2011 I had given my nokia C6 to the shop from where I had purchased as  my new phone was not functioning and its been 12 days since then that Nokia is unable to do anything about the situation. Although the manager Mr.. Aniruddha of the Kalighat Nokia care centre in Kolkata has been extremely polite in helping me out. But my unfortunate phone after being sent miles for some inspection has only reached the Nokia Care Centre only last Friday.
I am just cursing myself that why did I buy Nokia?  Can someone do something please ?
Rest of the story goes below:
I am from Kolkata in India and on 01.05.2011 I had purchased a Nokia C6 from South City Mall's Shopper Stop Nokia mobile counter. The phone started giving problems from day 3 but since I was traveling for 16 days I was unable to get it to the same shop. Today on 18th May when I went they told the phone will be sent to service centre and will be returned to me after 25 days. And that too after very rude behaviour of the salesperson. This is ridiculous.
So, I paid for a phone from the Nokia stable and I am unable to use it for more than a month as Nokia would do research on the handset. I have always purchased Nokia handset and ever since mobile services where launched in India. This is the worst experience did not expect this from Nokia. Very bad after sales service.
The problems with the C6 handsets are : software hanging, touch does not work and keyboard not functioning.

That's pretty standard, my N97 took about 3 weeks to be returned, hope your C6 works well now, in past experience, how long do other phone manusacturers take to repair a phone ? Just wonder as I only have lomited expeience of one problem with a Nokia, so can't judge whether they are slower or quicker than other phone manufacturers at repairs ?

  • HSDPA support in Nokia handsets

Hi, I'm very interested in Nokia products, but I'm not interested in buying a handset that doesn't have good connectivity options.
The 9500/9300 communicators don't appear to have 3G, so does anyone know if the 3G handsets (specificially the E-series, which have both decent keyboards and wifi - which I think is a must have these days since the networks don't allow SIP over their 'unlimited' data connections) support HSDPA (so-called '3G broadband') for high-speed 3G data?
If not, can anyone recommend a handset from someone else that does support HSDPA, wifi, and has a decent keyboard? It's absolutely essential that it also function as a bluetooth modem, since that's why I want the HSDPA!
    Thanks in advance!

yes, that link is one rufao already posted. i will assume he read this. essentially, the UK networks will use this technology to bolster the existing 3g network and pave the way for future technologies. however, they wont commit as wimax is so close. only tmobile will offer the faster speeds - and this will probably be with their equipment (or branded) too soon to say really, but right now - there are no nokia phones that do this.
If he read it, why did he state that no networks support HSDPA, then?
On any forum I've used before, it's always been really bad form to post incorrect information. It's better to say nothing than tell people the wrong information.
I definitely knew that Vodafone supported HSDPA, as I've seen Vodafone branded HSDPA PCMCIA cards, which are of no use to me (my laptop has no PCMCIA slots).
It's a pity that there's no information on Nokia's plans for this technology - it seems like they're going to be left behind again.
Does anyone have any experience using HSDPA on Vodafone's network, even just with their own-brand PCMCIA card? I'm curious about what sort of speeds you can realistically expect.

  • I refuse to buy nokia phone with less than 1500 mA...

I realized this after latest addition of E52 with 1500 mAh battery So far, i have purchased about 30 or so Nokia handsets during past 14 years.
The battery Life of E52 is just marvelous. simply amazing. Cant imaging how I survived 14 years exclusively using Nokia phones with less than 1500 mAh battery.
The new touch screen phones like the latest N-800 with HDMI Port has only 1200 mAh battery!!! why not put a 2100 mAh battery on such a beauty? people are going to use the phones more than just making call, this demands more battery power. 1200 mAh battery will last less than a day.... People, expecially myself will be dissapointed in using such a phone with so less battery power.
Granted these days processors are more efficient, but wont it be good if Nokia puts little more juice to their most beautiful touchscreen handsets?
Having less battery power is the main reason i have been holding off my purchase of touch screen phones like N900, and now this N-8.
Please Nokia, please try to put the best in it's class battery for the best in it's class phones.
Even the iPhone 4G has (1200 mAH) less capacity battery than my E52.
My E52 goes on and on for weeks together without charging. On heavy usage it easily lasts for 1 full week!... (never been like this for any of the previous nokia phones...) especially the top of the end models like my old N82
So far, I am very happy with my E52. Wish some thing similar i.e. slim E series comes with touch screen soon.

    Hello kmschmehl-
I cannot truly express how sorry I am to hear about your total experience with the delivery and subsequent return of this fridge.  It certainly sounds as though Best Buy has put you through the ringer and I can absolutely understand your disappointment and anger with us.
While it sounds like some aspects of the purchase and delivery were at least adequate, any opportunity that we had to show you why you should purchase from Best Buy went by the wayside.  However, Best Buy is not in the business to provide merely adequate experiences and I am saddened that this is the best we could summon for your purchase.  We are capable of better than what we showed you.
I’m glad to hear that you have finally been able to get the assistance you needed to get this refund resolved and make you whole again.  In addition, I do hope that you are enjoying the fridge you purchased at Lowe’s.  I certainly wish that it had been a Best Buy fridge in your kitchen instead, but I can understand why you chose to go with another retailer.
It sounds like the store has you in good hands once your card arrives and I believe that the reason they need the physical card is that the credit card company requires it to be physically scanned for returns.  Hopefully you will not run into any further issues with this refund and it’s my hope that sometime in the future, you might grant us another chance at your business.  I will be sending you a Private Message with some additional details as well.  To check your Private Messages, please log into the forum and click on the envelope in the upper right hand corner.
Please let us know if you run into any further concerns.

  • Why dont nokia help more with language settings? (...

this is for all nokia phones but the one i have is the n97 and depending on where you buy the phone it has different languages in the settings. and for a lot of people who decide to buy theirs from ebay or from another country and have to suffer without their language.. in my case i wanted greek in the phone, and as i got mine from a english guy the uk n97 had various languages such as russian and french which to me is no good. i really need GREEK..
so i came to ask is there a way to add languaqges and i am told no? but there is a way! why does nokia lie and make me take it to a nokia store to pay to add it? why cant nokia either add all the same languages in the phone no matter where you get it like apple do..or give you the option as to which languages you want to install?
i found it very annoying that nokia just dont allow you to add languages on your own even though there is a way to add the language which i wont mention how my post will probably be deleted if i do.. but there is a way why do nokia lie and keep it such a secret like its a bad thing that i want greek on my phone? but when you change languages the keyboard keys mess up and change postitioning which can be very annoying also which is why i dont use this option.. and i dont want to go pay more to add a language.

    thanks for your reply..
i do understand that why would a guy in china need arabic or some other language that he/she does not speak
apple iphone they have the same set of languages in the phone no matter where you buy it..
maybe you buy the phone from ebay? and you buy it from another country that does not have your language in the settings? or like me i was using a cyprus forum where a guy from england was offering it for 450 euros.. when in cyprus its sold for 800 euros.. so i went for it but the language i wanted wasent there.
there should be an option to install more languages if you want/need.. im sure i am not the only one that has this problem with languages from a nokia that was bought from another country for whatever reasons.
i can change my phones code to one from greece and get greek but my keyboards settings mess up and the keys move.surely nokia could easily add an option to download language packs if i wanted? its not like its not possible or doing anything wrong
and now that i look in my phones settings it has russian dutch french... i could ask the same question,, why would i need them languages for a phone intended for UK when the language of england is english?

  • Why the nokia n73 me not support N-Gage games ????...

why the nokia n73 me not support N-Gage games ???????
    Nokia N73, product code 0539295
    Version:  4.0839.42.2.1

Ngage has been around for quite a while now and has been "coming soon" for the N73 for as long as I can remember.
If they're taking this long to adapt it to the N73 it's almost certainly because they're having difficulty streamlining it to work on such a poorly-equipped handset.
Don't get me wrong. I think the N73's a great little device and I love mine. It's just not up to the task of a gaming platform.

If we look at the hardware on nokia phone, and compare with other company, nokia is still waaay behind.
So if nokia make window mobilephone, why should i buy it at all?
Nokia drop meego is a big mistake.
I buy it because meego looks like fresh, unique and user-friendly.
What is your reason to wanna buy nokia n9 with meego?

rather than the N9 i want an N950 and the Terminal is the main reason for me :-D
people kinda get a bit confused over the term 'support' - support from Nokia only means software updates... in theory if they get it right, it won't need support but as with the N900, there probably will be a lot of community support.
as long as there's a demand there will be people to make apps

Here is the thing the actual license for Apple to have a native YouTube app has expired you must understand this more about Apple removing Google from its ecosystem and less about actual licenses.  If Apple was so inclined I am almost certain they could have continued to provide a native YouTube app.
Do you really think that Apple Maps are "better" for iOS users?  You know that you can set your default search to another provider such as Bing?  Imagine Apple changing its default Safari search to Bing.  You must understand that Google makes more from searches on iOS devices than it does on everyting that is Andriod (source:http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/google-earns-four-times-more-from-ios-than-a ndroid/).  Apple is slowly and meticulously working on freeing iOS of Google products.
Of course it is a free market and Apple will most certainly allow Google's apps on their app store. There is an iPhone optimized version of YouTube in the app store.

  • Why does NOKIA offers so unfinished product?

MY phone originally had a lot of nice ringtones, had no problems with anything i used, had an option of silent camera shutter and many more. Why did Nokia offered me something as bad as Belle?
Yes, it has some interesting features but has nothing I really need! I don't need that huge menu list with a lot of things I don't use and don't know how to uninstall if it's possible. I don't really need those six homescreens and icons I'm able to move! I wanted to TRY this softwared but didn't want no way back!
When, yes, WHEN will be the downgrading to original software available?
Why is Nokia so interested in inventing this belle thing..

There is a camera shutter sound "off" option on my N8 Belle - but I need to scroll the list of sounds to make it visible.
For the rest of your comments I can assure you it feels just as awkward going from Belle to Anna, and it is way better for my blood pressure to commit myself to Belle, learning the changes and working around the troubles with the help of this forum while waiting for the fixes that will come - i.e. the small Qt stability update apparently sorted out the trouble with Sleeping Screen and so I can again impress the Android and iPhone users at the pub.

  • Might be buying nokia 5530

    Hey,
I might be buying nokia 5530 tomorrow, since my old nokia N95 was broken.
I'm planning to buy the pay as you go, on nokia 5530 as its much cheaper and i;ve used orange since i was quite young, and when  i had my first phone.
Previously i had a orange pay as you go on nokia n95, but it was quite slow and caused the phone to crash. Will this happen to the nokia 5530? I heard orange mess the phones up.
I'm not sure if i should buy nokia 5530, as it lacks of 3G. Can anyone explain what 3G is? Do i need it when surfing the internet? I mainly check my facebook really.

  • Where to buy Nokia Xpress-on cover for Lumia 710 ?

Does anyone know where I can buy Nokia Xpress-on cover for Lumia 710 in Australia? Or anywhere overseas that will ship to Australia. Nokia lists them on their website but not how/where to purchase.
I notice customers in the U.S. are getting free covers. Is this going to be available to other countries???

I emailed Nokia NZ about the covers, they said they'd get back to me... 2 months still waiting and yes a new cover would be cool. Mines too black, always getting lost.
Yellow would be awesome. Perhaps they'll extend the cover offer to the rest of the world one day
