Why can i no longer drag and drop photos into iphoto or on desktop?

This has only happened this week, before this I was able to drag any photo from any website and add it to either my iphoto or desktop. Now I cant do this, and I cant transfer from iphoto to desktop or vice versa either. Ive tried turning off iphoto altogether then back on again but no difference. Ive tried turning of the Mac and back on again, still the same.
I'm not technically minded so no kyrptic answeres pleas! I just need to know why all of sudden iphoto has changed? Thanks.

Note that you have to go into the Preferences folder in the Users folder to find the file to trash. See my post above.
Quit all your open apps.
Click anywhere on your desktop so Finder is active.
Hold the Option key down and click on the Go menu.
In the drop down select Library.
In the Library folder find the Preferences folder. Scroll through it to find: com.apple.finder.plist
Trash that file, then restart the computer.

  • Why can't I just drag and drop photos from iPhoto on to my iPhone?

This has been something on my mind for a long time. For some reason I can't just drag and drop certain photos from my computer on to my iPhone. Why? There both Apple products. Shouldn't it be easier? For some reason I have to go through iTunes to select which albums I would like to import, but I'm working with raw files. My computer has over 250 gb of storage space. My iPhone has 16 gb.  One of my even folders is 14 gbs. That would take up all the space on my phone. Is there a way to get around this? Why do I have to go through iTunes to put files on my iPhone?

Only Apple can answer that question, so you'll need to ask them.
But will your phone work with Raw files? If you're syncing from iPhoto via iTunes then that's not the raw file that's going over, it's the Jpeg preview from iPhoto.
As for the space issue, make an album of the photos you want to sync.

  • With new Photos app, I can no longer drag and drop photos into other applications as I did in the past with iPhoto.

With the new Photos app, I can no longer drag and drop photos into other applications as I did with iPhoto.  For instance, I have a photo collage app that in the past, I could just drag in the photos I wanted to include.  Now, I can DRAG the photos, but they do not DROP.  So, I have to go through the export process.  It is tedious.  What am I missing?  Where can I turn on the drag and drop feature for Photos?

YOu're not looking in the right palce. That's inside the iPhoto Application.
You need to look inside the iPhoto Library
    As I sid above:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there

  • Can't drag and drop photos in iphoto version 6.0.5

for some reason iphoto won't let me drag and drop photos into albums. i tried restarting, checking fonts etc but it still won't work. can anyone help? it used to work fine

    miss sho
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What do you mean by 'checking fonts etc.'
The usual cause for this issue is that the Helvetica font is unavailable. The usual cure is to make sure it's enabled with Font Book - sometimes it's necessary to disable it and then re-enable it.
Other than that, you're not trying to drag into a Smart Album, are you?
If none of the above apply, go for the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and create a new library there. Import a few pics and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • I used to drag and drop photos into pages. Recently updated to iPhoto 9.4.3 and now Pages doesn't recognize the photo?????

I use iWork Pages '09 to create my images. I normally drag and drop photos from iPhoto directly to Pages.
With iPhoto 9.4.3 I now get an error: " The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges or because it has no content or is corrupt". This doesn't happen with every photo from the same event and doesn't get corrected after running 'Repar Permissions'.  I can Export to desktop then drag to Pages but that is stupid. What's up???

With iPhoto 9.4.3 I now get an error: " The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges or because it has no content or is corrupt".
This looks like previews of some of your photos are missing or corrupted. Did you run a cleaning application, like "clean my mac" or move your iPhoto Library? Where do you store your iPhoto Library?
I'd try to repair the database or rebuild the iPhoto Library in addition to repairing permissions with the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools. Launch iPhoto with the command and options-key ⌥⌘ held down at the same time to get to the First Aid Tools.
Back up the iPhoto Library before you try rebuilding.

  • Can't drag and drop photos from iphoto to desktop or anywhere!

I used to be able to drag and drop photos out of iPhoto, it would usually show me a green plus. But now, when I tried to drag and drop my photos out of iPhoto, it would not allow me to and give me a white circle with a slash in it. I am a photographer, so I really need to do this desperately. I was going to copy it onto a new folder on my desktop then transfer it into my hard drive. I can't even get it to go on the folder on my desktop. I did a little research and found out that the white slash is telling me I have no permission to do that, but why? How can I make myself have permission like before?
    Please help!
    Thanks!

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • After installing iTunes 10.5.1, I can no longer drag and drop files into iTunes. Any suggestions?

Basically when I try to drag files from a folder into iTunes, (drag and drop within iTunes is fine) the little picture of the circle with a slash through it shows up and wont allow me to drop it into iTunes. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Thanks. I'm so frustrated I'm about to smash my computer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting my computer, everything I can think of.

just want to add my annoyance to the pile here. I can't see any logic behind removing the drag and drop function, especially when adding a new folder is now a multi-step process that is far from obvious. to start a new playlist with local folder content you now need to:enter settingsclick into advanced settings (basically all settings now seem to be "advanced"?)manually find and add the foldergo through the adventure of finding the files in your library.
-- because they may or may not be listed under "local files" - you won't know because Ctrl+F is also removed. so you have to remember/know what the album you added is called and search for that. if you have a mixed bag of file names from various albums, you're basically shafted; there's no way to find them all with a single search.then you can add them to playlisteta: but wait! there's more! if you have more than 15 files? you're **bleep** out of luck, because the search will only display the first 15 hits among your local files, and then show you spotify library tracks.I can't help but feel as though spotify is doing everything they can to stop us using spotify to listen to local files, as bugs that make it more or less impossible persist through multiple versions - and now features that seem to me to be basic functionality are being removed?mega minus points from someone who's been using spotify since 2008.

  • I can no longer drag and drop pages into my bookmarks toolbar in the new firefox

I uninstalled firefox to try google crome. Now i have uninstalled crome, and gone back to firefox. After restarted my computer i put the bookmark toolbar up but i can no longer drag sites into the bar. When i do it opens them in a whole new window.
When i used this before i would have saved tabs in my bookmarks for easy use,
Is this a bug or am i doing somthing wrong
    Thanks
    Mandy

for me the problem was caused by the Torbutton add-on.
I have read that there are about 5 or 6 other add-ons that also inhibit Drag and Drop functionality, not just the Torbutton add-on. The list is somewhere in the main Firefox support section (but it's tough to find the answer there twice).
The generic add-on troubleshooting page is at:

  • Why can't I drag and drop photos from iPhoto on my iMac to my iPad?

I have thousands of photos on my iMac and often want to copy a few dozen to my iPad to bring to my relatives. It seems that I should be able to create an album on my iMac and drag it to my iPad but I can't. Didn't Apple get where it is by making things simple like drag and drop?  Why is it like a state secret to get some photos moved over? I'd really like to know the reason. I don't want a convoluted work-around. This isn't Windows!
Come on Apple, give us simplicity or at least a USB port to copy stuff!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was a bit steamed. I know how to sync photos but object to having to treat my photos on the iPad in such an unintuitive way. Maybe I'm alone ( but I doubt it ) but I have photos on my iPad and iPhone for several different purposes. I keep photos of things I want to paint, photos of friends and relatives, photos of items I saw that I may want to buy and snapped the ISBN code. Photos of book list of authors I like that I want to read so if I see one in a used book store I remember which ones I haven't read yet. I don't think this is unreasonable or even something that only I want. I don't want to delete all of this every time I want to add another photo. I know I can back it up to my iMac and restore it plus the new photo later but this is not what I expect or want from Apple. I have had Apple products since the Apple II and Macs since March 1984 and it was because Apple always seemed to try and figure what the user wanted first and foremost but this seems to have changed. I would prefer most iPhoto and iTunes app versions from ten years ago to those coming out now because they valued intuitive interface over exotic features. Apple is the product 'for the rest of us' but not anymore it seems.
Maybe there are some good reasons why Apple is doing it, security, contracts, etc but I'd like to know. Maybe some of the users know and will give straight answers.
    Thanks, for the info though.

  • Can no longer drag and drop photos to a backup harddrive.

    New to Mac
I have previously been able to drag photos, I don't recall if individually or in events, to a backup hardrive. It appears I have lost the ability to do so. I am unsure if I am now doing it incorrectly or there is some fault in the OS. I was successful weeks ago, then I failed at an attempt. I tried again recently with no luck. I select the pics and get the green + and then the white striped circle as I hold the images over any portion of the backup drive. I tried the Helvetica font toggle and a restart with no luck. I enabled sharing in the iphoto preferences........... Suggestions? Btw the time machine backup seems to be working to a different hard drive.
    Thanks
    Matt

What I'm not sure about: Can you simpyl drag and drop to the desktop?
    If not the
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Why can't I upload / drag-and-drop a folder?

Seems to recognize I'm trying to drag something but it won't add my folder. Seems like a lot of work and completely unintuitive to have to create directories with the same names through the Creative Cloud system and then upload the contents from my local drive. Not to mention the HUGE pain this causes with sub-directories.
There must be a way to upload a folder, right? Please tell me there is.

    Hi reevans,
When you're trying to upload a folder structure, are you expecting that the cloud should upload the entire structure keeping in mind the subfolders within your root folder that you're trying to upload?
If this is not the case, then compressing the entire folder as a zip or RAR compression format and then dragging and dropping it on to the cloud, will be an alternative for you.
    Hope that helps.
