Try deleting the app and then reinstalling it. If that fails Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Why can't I change the highlight color in iBooks?

After the last update of iBooks app, I can’t change the color of the highlighter. I press down and hold on a piece of highlighted text, but the color and notes toolbar doesn’t pop-up. Is anyone else having this problem? Fixes?

I just tried it. After a section was highlighted, I just tapped once on it and the color options popped up. Tapping once does the trick..... rather than holding down and pressing, which I agree would have been my first choice, too.

Why does the highlight feature seem not to work about 1/2 the time in various ibooks. I'm trying to take notes and about 50 pages into a book the highlight feature stopped working.

I've long noted that the highlight feature in ibooks is clunky and fairly limited in it's note-taking features, but the last two books I've read I've had trouble getting the highlight feature to work at all. I click and drag over text and nothing happens. I try with command depressed and nothing happens. If I double click a bunch it will eventually highlight one word, but nothing more. What gives?
Also, not to be snarky, but why can't I seem to find a button that would read text to speach for me? How do blind people use this service, or illiterate, or dyslexic, or people like myself who can learn far more from hearing then from reading.
And why does the text of a book often render so that it's haf cut off of the page?

There is a button for speech within the iBooks menu. Edit > Speech. You might be better off buying Audiobooks. You can get them from the iTunes Store or Audible.com

Some pdf's that show up in my ibooks on my mac do not show up when I try to sync through itunes. Can't figure out why.

The transfer from my itunes book library to ibooks app on my mac (mavericks) went fine. The problems started when I tried syncing. The first time, everything went fine. Pdf's and ebooks showed up on my devices. I then added more pdf's to ibooks on my mac and when I tried to sync them with my devices, some show up and some don't. I thought it might have something to do with file size but again, some large pdf files did show up in tunes and some didn't.
Overall, not all things are mirroring like they are supposed to between the ibooks app on my mac and itunes, resulting in not being able to get all the content I want on to my devices via syncing.
For example, I will delete something out of ibooks but it stays in itunes when I go to sync. I'll delete it from all the devices and the computer and it will still be in itunes and will reload onto my ipad when I sync my entire library. To repeat, I deleted a book out of ibooks but it still shows up in itunes when I go to sync. Other books that I delete from ibooks do disapear from itunes and are no longer availalble for syncing, as it should be.
There was a pdf I changed to an epub in Calibre. I converted it in case the large size of the pdf was a problem. As an epub, it was a smaller file (8.6 mb vs 100 mb). I deleted the pdf from all devices and the ibooks app. I reloaded it into ibooks as an ebook. It showed up fine. I was able to open it with no problems. Went to sync it with itunes and it didn't show up nor appear on my ipad after syncing the entire library.
So, ibooks on computer is working fine. The content is there (or not there when I delete it) in what ever format I want it. I can open and read everything just fine. The problem is trying to get that same content onto my devices via itunes. Why does some content transfet just fine and some doesn't? Why does some content delete fine while other content can't be deleted from itunes? Why do some pdf's load fine in itunes and some won't?
My computer and my devices all have current updates.

I had the same issue. After searching around online I found out that you can try downloading another app (it can be any app) onto your ipod. After it finishes downloading see if your other apps open. You don't even have to keep the new app. Just see if your other ones work and you can delete the new one. That should work. If not, try to hard reset it. Here is another apple support link for steps on hard reseting it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430).

After installing Maverick I can no longer highlight multiple emails the same way in orden out my mailbox I highlight a message,hold down my mouse and drag my cursor to highlight more messages. I click "delete" & they go to trash. How do I do this again?

After installing Maverick on my 2011 MacBookPro I can no longer highlight multiple emails in the same manner. To clean out my Inbox I highlighted a message, held my mouse down & dragged my cursor down through all the messages I wanted to delete (or move to another mailbox, or other functions) highlighting as many messages as I wanted. I then clicked "delete" & they went to trash. Such a great way to clean out a lot of messages at once. Can I and/or how do I do this again? Or is this something Maverick has eliminated? I also hate that "Notes" is no longer on the Mail page, but this is not as important. Help!!

Put differenltly, if I can drag select multiple items and objects on my desktop, which I can, using my Kensington Track Ball (which has an enabled updated software driver in place, so I don't think there's a problem there), why can't I click-drag-multipleselect emails in mail like I have *always* been able to? Really, what is the problem here? Why is that no longer possibler? I'm not a coder, but I can't believe this isn't fixable. Here, Apple should be ashamed of itself, regardless of the fact that there's an easy work around. When I have to alter the way I have been doing something for years and have to waste time learning something new and complaining about it -- like right now! -- and there's no good technical reason, and I bet there isn't, then Apple has simply failed.

With Firefox 5.0.1, I can no longer have search terms highlighted when I search via cache. This makes searching for key concepts impossible now. Is there a plan to fix this issue?

In the past, before Firefox 5.0.1, I would search for key terms via the cache mode; thus, the terms would be highlighted in various colors so that I could scroll down the page and find the exact terms.

I use an iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1o.6.8.

The new tab page (about:newtab) wasn't introduced until a later version of Firefox (iirc, ''Firefox 10'') , which is why that pref can't be found.

I made 300 page book in iBooks Author and added it as a preview/proof within iBooks on a original iPad with the most up-to-date software. I was able to read the whole book, highlight sections and take notes. In the beginning, I could access them, but now that I've finished the book I can no longer. Whenever I click on the Notes button the whole app crashes. Nothing shows up under Table of Contents or Bookmarks, even though the book has highlights and notes all over it. Quitting the app from the multi-task bar and restarting the iPad haven't helped. The book won't sync with my iPhone because it's from iBooks Author, so I can't try it there. I even tried Bookmarks Extractor and my notes didn't come up. And there's no share option like there is for purchased books. Help! I need them!

if the iBooks are downloaded to your iPad they should be available to read in iBooks.
If the iBooks were downloaded onto your computer and not sync'd to your iPad then they would not be availble, but as long as they are on the iPad you should be able to open iBooks and read them.

Just noticed the same problem. I was able to do it before updating. Hope there's a simple answer. That is a big reason why I got the iPad and iBooks.

How can I stop shared files in iBooks being highlighted by different family members?

I Have family sharing set up which is great for sharing apps and music however I have a problem with iBooks. My wife and I both use ePub files which a re study material. The great thing about these is that we can highlight and add notes to files.
THe problem is that our individual highlights and notes are shared with each other. So I get my wife's highlights and notes on top of mine.
We ha ve tried clearing all ePub files from my wife's ipad, and only syncing them to mine. She then downloads her own copy of the ePub file. So one has the original which is on our iMac and one has another copy. This makes no difference as iTunes recognises them as the same file.
We'd be happy to switch off family sharing for iBooks to prevent this but that doesn't seem possible. It's all or nothing. I can't turn off family sharing completely as my wife will lose access to our shared music library.
Does oes anyone have any suggestions? Basically, we want to share music and apps through family sharing but have a separate collection of books even though those books might be ide bridal before we annotate them.

So if you spent money on one of these two devices, its just a poke in the eye? No solution to simply wanting to read books you paid for? Is it being suggested that old ipods can't handle books? There's no possible way to make them compatible? Is Apple's solution "just buy the newer one" like everyone just has that kind of disposable income.
