Why can I no longer select files manually and delete them?

When I select music files that are on my phone and then press the delete button nothing happens. I also can not select and drag music to and from my library and/or phone. I can only seem to use the sync option and I don't like having to do that. Did something change suddenly in the way iTunes operates now? I have the latest version so I'm good there. I'm also not able to sort by "date added, artist, album, etc." What's happened???

I knew I was just overlooking something somewhere. I didn't realize that there was more options on the Summary tab. I just needed to scroll down further. Thanks again!

I have exactly the same problem on my ipad. It is happening on only some contacts but, as with you, when I delete one of the contacts on the ipad, the second ipad contact and the contact on the imac are also deleted. This is even the case when I have differentiated the two contacts on the ipad and can see the one I have deleted on the ipad is not the same one as is then deleted on the imac.

You can of course use the same Apple ID on all your Apple devices. But, each time you're resetting your ID, you're causing yourself a 90 day issue. At this point, contact Apple for assistance. If you're in the US, you can call 1-800-MYAPPLE

Moving Garageband Music Files to MyBook for Mac External Hard Drive on OSX 10.5.8 I'm a musician and need to make space on my mac hd. Is it safe to move music files there and delete them on the mac? Thanks!

I need space on garageband or the entire hard drive, since I am getting the "need space on the hard drive" messages.
It's scary to move my precious music files!
How should I move them to the external and feel safe about doing so?
Or are there other methods besides the obvious, clearing caches, deleting the trash and downloads, etc., that are recommended?
I am doing music now and producers are waiting for the new vocals!

The process is as simple as just copying your Garageband project to the external drive and deleting from the macs hard drive. But before you delete anything you really need to back them up to someplace else also. Having just one copy is not safe. Get another external drive, DVDs or even flash drives, you absolutely need anything important in more then one place.

Why can I no longer transfer files to an external HD?

To make more space on my 2010 macbook air (OS 10.9.4) I purchased a Toshiba 1TB external hard drive (formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). To free space I placed a large folder onto it, and also set up Time Machine. When I plugged it in a few days later, I get error messages saying that time machine backups failed (but they seem to be there) and I get the following when trying to move any other file from the computer to the hard drive:
Modifying “HARD DRIVE” requires an administrator name and password.
which it seems to initially accept the one I have for the computer, but then I get:
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50).
What might be wrong and how can I fix it?

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like a Time Machine backup failed. If you click on the i in the Time Machine preference window it will give you an error message. If you could see what that message is this article might be able to help you get this resolved.

Using an external hard drive to store backups.
Mount your external hard drive.
In Disk Utility, locate your external backup drive. Your backup drive should mount in the Disk Utility sidebar when attached to your Mac.
Select your external backup drive.
Click Repair.

Why can I no longer select a downloaded, purchased ringtone as an alert tone?

Previously, this was not an issue. However, today I had to reset my phone and set it up as a new iPhone due to some difficulties I was having, and now it will not let me select a downloaded ringtone as an alert for my text messages. I have an iPhone 4S, with iOS 6.1.3, up to date, and it's not jailbroken. Please help me fix this, it's very annoying!

Naming a file with a dot is a dangerous and unpredictable thing to do. Whether it works CAN depend on what comes after the dot.

Are you still at iPhoto 9.4? If so, try updating to 9.4.1:

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

Why can't I take email attach. videos and put them into dropbox or somewhere to save them?

I am using an ipad 4th generation, version 7.0.2, IOS 7.1.2. Memory 16GB, processor dual coreA6X.
My problem is: recently my daughter sent emails with video attachments of my granddaughter swimming.
They came as 3MP and easily opened. I now would like to get them off my email and I'm unable to do so. I
have downloaded both dropbox and power photo to put them in but I haven't been able to. Both say tap the file
and a drop down with "open in" will show. I only get open, copy, open in new tab. I have tried everything that I
can think of. I am not computer literate at all. Please help me out. Any and all ideas will be appreciated.

The same way the photos were transferred from your computer, via the iTunes sync process.
Deselect sync photos under the photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by sink to remove all.

Make sure you have the Quicktime Player 7 installed. It was an option when installing Lion. Or you can get it here: QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later. Install it, reboot and try again.

You should buy Compressor it never fails. It is a must have. I have given up using this buggy Share function and use Compressor all the time.
